Matt spent 40 minutes on the phone with me walking over the logistics of getting the SD Community Power battery rebate as well as his opinion on our ability to be accepted into the program and providing quotes for different configurations and revising them on the fly as we shared info. His pricing was the best I've received from any company so far, and I've contacted 5 to 7. Matt said he would be the project manager through the entire roofing and solar install process. Unique was very accommodating in designing and installing alongside our our current leased system, which nearly every other solar company found confusing or difficult to work around. In July 2020, we selected Unique Solar for a 20-panel, micro inverter install. They were competitively priced and always on time. We also appreciated their consideration for safety by wearing masks and PPE in our home during the first summer of the pandemic! Their install was clean and barely visible from the outside. All the supporting equipment was installed inside the garage, with the external conduit hidden behind a gutter, and expertly painted to match the exterior of the house. In April 2022, we noticed a small water stain inside the house, on our upstairs ceiling. We asked Unique to come out to determine if the leak was a caused by the solar install. A few days later, Unique was at our home & they spent an hour fixing a leak that ended up being completely unrelated to the solar install. Unique Solar installed our 28-panel solar panel system several years ago. I am a retired engineer and spoke with three different companies to get bids. Ulf was the most knowledgeable of the three companies by far, and answered all of my questions before we pulled the trigger. Ulf and his team at Unique Solar were recommended by our roofer to do our R&R. We inherited this solar setup so we also priced the R&R from the original installer. Ulf's prices were much better on the R&R and the two additional panels we added and Ulf took the time to discuss other options for possibly expanding our system and was very honest and straight forward. Other companies tend to be pushy salesman. Ulf and his team did a great job with our R&R. One of the most important things for a good R&R is working with the roofing company (see my review for Roofing Specialists of San Diego). Unique Solar even helped us try to establish monitoring with our new inverter (warranty replacement by Solar Edge), but the original installer (and monitoring admin) NRG are being total jerks about it releasing it. NRG wanted 500$ just to add our email and phone number to their computer so we could monitor our generation. Avoid NRG like the plague. I'm almost tempted to buy a new inverter just to wash my hands of NRG. One small criticism I have with Ulf was that two-way communication was a little slow moving up to our R&R where I was also dealing with a lot of different contractors for various jobs and was trying to run a tight ship to organize things to my hectic schedule. Communication got much better during the week of the job date though. That aside, I would use Unique solar again for an R&R or to change/expand my current solar setup. read more

Let me start by saying that I was skeptical about solar, solar companies, the "tax credits", etc. That all changed after my neighbor had Unique Solar install a system on his house. My neighbor and I spoke at length about his system, his annual electricity usage, my usage, the benefits, the tax credits, how he found Unique Solar and how/why he ended up going with them. After deciding to move forward with solar, I got two quotes from other highly respected companies in San Diego and Unique Solar as the third. The two other solar companies both came in right around the same price for the same systems, but with the price from Unique Solar and the recommendation from my neighbor, the decision was easy. By the time I finally contacted Ulf at Unique Solar to inform him that we were going with them, I had already received so much information from my neighbor (he's a retired electrical engineer), that I got the feeling Ulf was surprised at my lack of questions or involvement in the process. When I was researching whether to go solar I had five solar companies come to my house and give me an estimate. Most of them were not informative and focused on selling. I was very disappointed in their presentations. One of them was so insistent on making a sale that I finally asked him to leave. Unique Solar was different from the others. They knew their business and were very polite, without sales pressure. I chose Unique solar to install my system. They did the job to my complete satisfaction. I had a few roof tiles that had broken a year ago and could not find the replacements. The size was discontinued. Unique Solar found the correct size and replaced them for me at no charge. This is above and beyond what you would expect and it confirmed to me that I had made the right decision to use them for my solar project. Oh, I need to mention that they were less expensive than the others but that is not why I chose them. The first month that the system was activated I generated more energy than I used. Take that SDG&E. I understand that the rebate will go away soon so you should consider going solar sooner rather than later. Also SDG&E is going to ask for a surcharge for people who are going solar.
