In checking out our A/C unit before it would be needed we discovered it was blowing hot air. We have appliance insurance through American Home Shield (AHS) and United Air Temp was the company contracted to assist us. Most of you are aware R22 has been banned by the EPA and is being phased out (2020/2021?) due to reported impact on the ozone layer. The technician assigned to us (Dustin) advised the refrigerant was depleted due to a leak (that they would have to troubleshoot to locate) and suggested the possibility of replacing the unit. Dustin was professional, courteous, and very business like. He was thorough and knowledgeable and when I had a question (due to my lack of HVAC knowledge) he took the time to explain it to me in terms I could relate to. Our A/C unit was manufactured in 2003 and we figured the possibility of issues cropping up more and more could increase exponentially. Given that we set up an appointment to discuss our options including purchasing a new unit. Our appointment was with Zach who may be one of the most well-mannered and attentive salesman we've encountered. Now before you say "Duh - that's his job" I'm here to tell you I understand capitalism and why he was sitting in my living room; however, he was genuine, efficient, and extremely competent (the fact he was also a highly experienced technician led credence to his recommendations as well). Unfortunately, we weren't in a position to afford a new unit. This is where most of us would expect the customer service aspect to deteriorate. On the contrary; it actually improved (and it was already a five on a five point scale). Once it was determined a new unit wasn't in the cards we set up an appointment to determine the leak. Dustin returned to the house to troubleshoot the leak, determined it was being caused by an inoperative valve(s), parts were ordered, he replaced/installed the parts, refilled the refrigerant (with the approved replacement for R22; R407C) and we were good to go (of course this occurred over a four day period; which, to us, was a very remarkable turn around time. We've experienced issues such as these over the years where it took 7-10 business days for similar processes). During the repairs Dustin continued to provide outstanding customer service and though I asked a lot of questions he was very patient with his explanations. Zach accompanied Dustin and they worked very well as a team (I'm not saying it doesn't happen but we have never experienced two technicians on the same job; it's usually a solo act). It was refreshing to see folks who enjoyed what they do. The next day we noticed water on the floor (not a flood but more than condensation) and I emailed pictures to Zack (this was a Saturday morning by the way). Fifteen minutes later Dustin returned, discovered the problem, corrected the issue, and said Zack would stop by later to provide an extra set of eyes to ensure all was copasetic. Zack, who had previously scheduled appointments in Fredericksburg, (we live in King George) and true to their word showed up to give the system a once over. Once it was determined everything was operating as advertised he said if you notice anything please don't hesitate to give us a call. Though AHS selected this company, in the future, if they advise someone else is coming we will reach out to United Air Temp. Customer Service means something to me and my wife and it's obvious it means something to United Air Temp. I was in the Navy for 23 years and we had a term (Bravo Zulu) for a job well done. My furnace was not functioning on one of the coldest days in February 2017. I called in for service and I met Niko. Niko saved our lives by finding a very rusted flue pipe and recommended it for replacement and it was. Secondly after replacement the power vent motor started making an ungodly roar. I called for service and Mr. Niko responded with Mr. Seth and worked on modifying the placement of the motor which gave me some heat for several days but it would last because the motor was old and deteriorating every day. They recommended a new motor. Niko got it ordered, stayed on top of it( took 3 tries) before he got the right one. Niko came out and installed it and it is performing perfectly. Working with Niko was a pleasure, he is very knowledgeable polite and respectful. Seth came a couple times with Niko, they work great as a team and he also was well rounded, polite and respectful. By having service agents like Niko and Seth a home owner knows and fells he will always have the best service available. Who says heroes don't exist?! We contacted our home warranty company to have someone come out to look at our AC unit. Surprisingly, I was able to have United Air Temp (Stafford, VA location) come out the very next day!! The senior technician, Bryce, and his apprentice, Felix, got right to work! Within 10 minutes, they found the culprit!!! They repaired the leak, recharged the system, and made sure everything else was in proper working order, and checked voltages to make sure there were no overdraw current... all while working with a smile in our 85 degree house!! The most impressive thing, though, was witnessing Bryce actually TEACHING Felix what to do and why. He took time to explain everything vs rushing to get to the next customer. Both gentlemen were professional, hospitable, and walked us through everything they were doing. Bryce explained the maintenance plan without being pushy... that alone made us feel comfortable in signing up. We cannot thank Bryce and Felix enough!! read more

Our Heating system, cut out on us. In January. With an 11 month old baby. Reed showed up on time. With foot covers. There is still snow on the ground. He took his time. Let us know the part that needed to be ordered. Would take 5 days. But if it showed up. He would too. Well 2 days later. Reed was on our doorstep. He explained what he was doing. Showed me why. Cleaned our machine. He was prompt. Efficient and had a great attitude. Before he left. Daniel arrived. He is the Branch Manager. He was watching Reed. Explained a procedure. They where both very knowledgeable. He was patient with him. Reed didn't hesitate to ask questions. Watching them interact was awesome. I would have thought they where old coworkers. Let me begin this review by first praising the Lord that we have a wood stove and 4 cords of wood. We have been without heat several times this winter due to age related issues of our inside unit. The last several times we have had a tech come out, we have been blessed to have a young named Seth Thomas come to our house and take care of our HVAC unit. In all instances Seth has explained in a professional yet easy to comprehend way what is going on and the process that it will take to get things fixed. The information we received from him and the communication from the office has done much to put us at ease as the job gets taken care of. Seth is truly an asset to the company and has been an absolute pleasure to deal with through the ups and downs of this winters heating challenges as his dedication to follow up has been very much appreciated! read more

They were scheduled to replace R22 Freon in our A/C unit. When asked what the price per pound would be, they stated it was $150 per pound! The local supply company sells it for $13.06 per pound. They would not come down on the price and stated they would not put in Freon that was not theirs, so they lost the job. I found it interesting that the on-hold messaging stated that they had received an award for business ethics and can only imagine what the criteria was for that award! I don't mind a business making a profit on something, but price gouging is not acceptable. His defense was they have been charging that price in Northern Virginia for two years. Well everyone else can pay that if they want, but I didn't fall off a cabbage truck yesterday! Save yourself quite a bit of money and use someone with real business ethics. read more

Omg Brandon and his Boss are awesome. First Brandon came to check our heating/cooling system, and he did a complete job and explain the pro's in getting a new system and the down fault in keeping the old one we have that came with our new home. He notified his boss Dan , who came over to explain further, and within the next few months we will be purchasing the new system. But what also was impressive, was that since they left this afternoon our heating system didn't kick back in and we were cold. We called them and Brandon came back at 7:15pm to help us out and his boss Dan was trying to also troubleshoot with us over the phone. Why? Professionally he saw, explained everything he had to do, he found out through his maintenance analysis of our HVAC system, and he was SO VERY HONEST IN HIS APPROACH to a fix or needed maintenance issue or short or long term need, even if it was due to a U.A.T mix up!!! My tech Brandon showed up on time and was quickly able to diagnose the issue which was my Nest thermostat. He then spent nearly an hour on the line with Nest to troubleshoot the problem with them to ensure that the required replacement parts were shipped to me at no cost. After he was done with the call, he spent time to show me exactly what I needed to do to replace the part when it arrived from Nest and offered to assist as needed. I really appreciated the extra effort that Brandon put into my service call to ensure that my issue was resolved. If I could give him more than five stars, I absolutely would! We came home from vacation to find our house at a steamy 87 degrees during a stretch of 95+ degree weather. The tech that came out that night was Martin Thompson #4801. He was great. He explained what was wrong (system was frozen) and that he would have to come back the next day. He returned and had it up and running within an hour. He was extremely polite and professional. He even went above and beyond to clean one of the filters that we didn't know existed. This all happened at 9pm on a Friday night. He could have called it a night but he came out was great. We recently had our heater die on us and American Home Shield connected us with United Air Temp. Our technician, Seth Thomas, arrived and we were very pleased with his professionalism and friendly demeanor. He checked out our system and explained to my husband and me what he was doing and gave us a quick tutorial of how to troubleshoot problems in the future. He diagnosed the problem as a burned out motor which he could replace on the spot as he had one on the truck. He cleaned our unit, put everything back together, went over the bill, and left us in a warm home in a short period of time. YEAH! read more

We discovered United Air Temp through our home warranty company. AJ provided us great service. He took the time to explain and show things to us so we could understand our A/C unit better. I will say that the receptionist at the main branch in Lorton needs to work on her phone service and the dispatch did not call to let me know AJ was on the way, but we were very happy with the quick response after calling on Monday for service on Tuesday. Niko was scheduled to come and service our heat pumps and immediately identified a major complication with the wiring. He offered to repair the wiring in order to service the units but I requested a quote to replace both units as I was concerned about the potential of a fire. NIko called Daniel and within 15 minutes Daniel was on site to access the situation. Both gentlemen appraised me on my options and my wife and I chose replacement. I had a maintainance appt today with gentlemen named Tyler, from fredericksburg, he remained professional thru the entire process, even when it took him over 30 min to remove motor shaft due to rusted pin. He explained every detail of what was going on as well as answered my questions. Once furnace part was complete, he still had to go outside and check the unit, in the dark. As goes with most homeowners that find themselves in need of qualified repair technicians, our air conditioning went out on the weekend. I put in a service request through AHS (a whole other review ). Company representative called within several hours to set service call. Appointment made within a few days and techs arrived well within time window. Tech did a great job diagnosing and correcting what was going on with one of our AC units. Tyler Falk was sent out to do my six month inspection. He let me know everything he was doing to make sure my unit would work correctly for the summer. while he was checking to make sure my heat pump was working correctly, he let me see that my hot water heater was rusted very bad on the lower outside, he let me know that i might want to have it replaced soon so i don't end up with a broken hot water tank. to bad when i check with AHS they won't help me get it replaced until the hot water heat stops working / brakes down. read more
