Everybody could work, but going to work with a heart and correct mindset are not very common. But Samir Mezzi, a United Ground vendor have done those. I am writing this review with gratitude to a representative who went above and beyond, along with his co-workers, to help make our flight happen as planned. I wanted to write this review as soon as I got back, but I have been busy until now. United Ground department, I hope Samir didn't get in trouble for spending an extensive time helping a customer. His compassionate ways have made my mom's relocation possible. I highly encourage recognition of such working ethics. Good workers make great companies. It was the weekend of May 30, 2026, flight # UA2373. My mom was a frail disabled senior over 80 years old. I came to NY to fly her to CA, as she had been requesting. The flight was long, she got very tired and became very difficult to deal with. She was walking around the area with a cane, being uncooperative with me. She found Samir Mezzi and got very comfortable with him. She only trusted him and no one else. Samir was on duty but was very willing to help her. My flight was close to departure when she refused to enter the TSA checkpoint for the security screening process. When I explained to him the situation, he didn't hesitate to help, he was very determined to successfully help us fly. After some time spent being patient with my mom, he called his colleagues to figure out some ways. They figured to team up and help us out. There were several of them, from various departments. They comforted her, were gentle and patient with her. They even bought her a soda. The TSA checkpoint was successful. The manager of United Airlines came and offered solutions to the challenging situation, of a complimentary onsite hotel stay or delay it, in wanting to help make the flight an easier and more comfortable experience. She was also very patient and genuine. We passed the TSA checkpoint and went on with proceeding to the check-in gate. I wanted to let her know of my decision, but it would be a hassle and leave my mom for a moment to come back to talk to her. So, I didn't. I hope she understands. But I did speak to her about my appreciation. Samir kindly helped my mom all the way until she was seated on the plane. He said some comforting kind words to her before he left. We appreciate everything he has done. My mom is now happy and healthier living in CA with me. Congratulations to United Ground for having such a stella worker. Wow! What a horrible experience. I've flown millions of miles and have never been treated this poorly. Flight was direct from Chicago to Shannon and was supposed to leave at 6pm but kept getting delayed due to mechanical issues. Fast forward over 8 hours and multiple delays they cancelled the flight. Saw the crew leaving the plane so we knew we were going to fly however they took forever to cancel it because nobody has any authority. Seems like this is normal for United to give people zero power so they can pass the buck. They had no hotel rooms in inventory so everybody had to fend for themselves. People ended up sleeping on the airport floor. I paid for a direct flight and upgraded seat and neither of them will happen when we hopefully are able to reach our destination over a day later. Thank you for giving my a fifteen dollar voucher for food so I can buy a coffee and a doughnut. Your net promoter score is a zero and if I could give zero stars I would. My family and I have flown United Airlines regularly between the United States and Liberia, West Africa, for nearly a decade. I am also a professional pilot in the private aviation industry, so I understand that delays and operational challenges happen. What I cannot overlook is the repeated lack of customer service, accountability, and support my family has experienced recently. Last month, I was returning from Liberia when a series of delays caused me to miss a connecting flight to Dallas. The original aircraft was removed from service for maintenance, requiring passengers to walk approximately 20 minutes to a new gate. After boarding the replacement aircraft, we remained on board for nearly two hours due to an overweight aircraft, communication issues preventing the use of external power, and finally a passenger altercation that resulted in two passengers being removed from the flight. I had intentionally scheduled a four-hour connection in Atlanta, yet the delays still made it impossible for me to reach my final destination. Because my onward ticket was booked with another airline, United refused to rebook me. I had to purchase a new ticket at my own expense and was told I would need to wait 24 hours before requesting a refund for the unused portion of my trip. The refund process took more than two weeks, and despite traveling in First Class, I received only $250. The situation became even worse when my luggage was sent to Atlanta without me. When my mother attempted to work with baggage services to have my bags forwarded, a United employee accused her of trying to steal luggage and called the police. After a travel day that lasted nearly 30 hours, the compensation United eventually offered did little to address the experience. To this day, I still do not have my luggage. Unfortunately, this was not an isolated incident. This month, my father traveled to Liberia. He is a Premier member who makes the trip between Liberia and the United States several times each year and is entitled to a 70-pound baggage allowance. Despite checking a bag that weighed only 69.5 pounds, he was told it was overweight and was charged $200 because United claimed they could not verify his status. The problems did not stop there. United then sent his luggage to the wrong country. When he attempted to have the bag rerouted, he was told he would need to deplane in Sierra Leone to retrieve it himself. Even though the mistake was entirely United's, customer service repeatedly refused to reroute the luggage. My mother spent more than two hours on the phone trying to resolve the issue and was repeatedly told that my father could simply file a claim. That response completely missed the point. His luggage contains perishable items unavailable in Liberia and materials he needs to operate his business. These are time-sensitive and, in many cases, irreplaceable items. Because of the delays and confusion, he was also forced to check his carry-on bag and was told he could miss his flight if he wanted to keep it. As both a longtime customer and a professional pilot, I find these experiences deeply disappointing. Delays happen. Mistakes happen. What matters is how an airline responds when they do. In two separate incidents affecting my family within two months, United failed to provide reasonable solutions, failed to take accountability, and failed to deliver the level of customer service we once expected. Once I have used the travel credits United provided following these incidents, I will no longer fly this airline. Neither will my parents. The operation is big, busy, and constantly in motion, but it generally runs with a level of competence that makes the chaos feel intentional rather than accidental. Gates are well‑staffed, announcements are usually clear, and there's a sense that the teams here have seen every possible travel scenario and know exactly how to handle it. Security and check‑in move faster here than at most major hubs, thanks to the sheer number of lanes and the fact that United funnels so much of its traffic through this terminal. The terminals aren't exactly bright -- especially once the sun goes down -- and they feel even more cramped thanks to how narrow they are, particularly Terminal B. The middle of B is downright miserable: TSA has pushed its footprint so far into the hallway that it creates an unbearable chokepoint where foot traffic bottlenecks into a slow‑moving shuffle. Food options are extremely limited for a terminal this busy and for an airport of this size. And if you wander into United's Terminal 2, the choices somehow get even slimmer. Over in Terminal 3, where United has pushed into American's turf and now occupies a few gates, the situation isn't much better -- the food options there are equally sparse and feel like an afterthought. Boarding is typically organized, and the gate agents keep things moving without the performative sternness you sometimes get at other airports. Even when flights are full (which is most of the time), the process feels controlled rather than frantic. Baggage claim is hit‑or‑miss, but when it hits, it's impressively quick for an airport this size. United at ORD is exactly what you want from a major hub: predictable, efficient where it counts, and staffed by people who know how to keep a massive operation from falling apart. We've flown with United for the last 15+ years, and simply put, we're done with them... Over the last 3+ years, United has become as reliable as screen door on a submarine... Maintenance issues, frequent delays, cancellations, baggage issues, unhelpful customer service, the list goes on. Even their frequent flier program which has been award winning in years past and easy to use has become a spectacle in and of itself (United has really limited award options and miles needed to book has nearly doubled). Aside from all that, the straw that broke the camel's back is our travel today. Yet again, we're in Chicago O'Hare which is the equivalent of the Cleveland Browns of airports (btw, I'm a lifelong CLE fan) and we're delayed with a maintenance issues... United has deplaned us, swapped planes, the new plane is apparently broken now, and there's zero information or updates. The United app is not updated with correct or real-time information and flight agents have no details as well... This is beyond unacceptable and by no way justifiable. We travel a lot and we understand this kind of stuff is part of air travel, but the lack of transparency and useful information is ridiculous. We never have these types of repeated issues with Delta, which tells me this is not a commonality amongst airlines... Rather it's just the same usual United dysfunction that habitually occurs. Overall, my experience flying United (Polaris) was a good one. I had a 15 hr flight to Sydney, AU that I was really dreading, but it wasn't nearly as bad as I feared. The bedding was nice and provided by Saks. My seat laid completely flat and was pretty comfortable. The food exceeded my expectations. I mean smoked duck and sea bass with a caper sauce? It wasn't Michelin Star worthy, but it was good quality for airline food. And the service was wonderful. One of the negatives though, and it's kind of a big one, was that WiFi wasn't working so I had to go 15 hrs having no contact with my kids. The 2nd was that the Polaris lounge in Chicago was closed so I had to use the United club instead. Not nearly as nice as Polaris. I'd of course use United again. When I filed a claim for additional expenses incurred, the airline responded that I was entitled to no reimbursement. Their investigation concluded that the cancellation was due to poor weather conditions which were beyond their control. Regardless of the fact that their system generated a written mechanical failure message to me, it is against company policy to take responsibility for their failures. It appears that we have a trustworthiness and credibility issue here. Why would we want to do business with a company who dodges responsibility when it involves additional expense? read more

This mixed review is for our 9 hour flight from Frankfurt back to Chicago in economy. It was on a Boeing 787-10. On the plus side, I was happy with the leg room, the food, and the entertainment. After having the disgusting food on Air France a few months ago, anything would have been a big improvement and at least the food was hot and pretty good. On the outbound to Glasgow, I had butter chicken, and on this flight, we I had eggplant parmesan. Also, in a recent and thoughtful innovation, they provided a nice neck pillow that was very helpful for comfort and sleeping. They also had a neat new vacuum wrapped snack of olives and almonds that I enjoyed. On the negative side, we had a ridiculous comedy of errors that resulted in a 2 hour delay to takeoff. We were on UA flight 906 on Friday, Oct 11, and it was fully loaded with 300+ passengers. The story is worth sharing because it is so ridiculous. It is all based on announcements from the head stewardess. First, at departure time, everyone was onboard except 1 passenger who was apparently in a wheelchair that they were looking for. After 30 minutes, they found that he was put on another plane. I don't know if that was a UAL or an airport employee, but it could have been a liability factor. Apparently the passenger was separated from his mother too who was presumably on the plane, hmmm. When they found him, they tried to put him on our plane, but we had to wait for a special elevator as the jetway wasn't working properly anymore. Another 30 minutes. 20 minutes later, we get an announcement that starts with "unfortunately". The unfortunate thing was his critical medicines were left on the other plane, duh. So, 40 minutes later, they apparently got hold of that and we take off 2 hours late. A lot of passengers, but not applicable for us, missed their connections and there was a slight mutiny on the plane as folks started standing about, grumbling, etc and had to be calmed by the stewardess before we took off. To top it off, we had 3 screaming babies on board as well. For what it's worth, we had a female captain, and that may or may not go with the bleeding heart theorists. There was so much incompetence, a lot of folks thought we should have just taken off and let the idiot couple fend for themselves. I'm still undecided as I don't think we got the complete picture and I may be biased towards forgiveness as we didn't have that much skin in the game with a missed connection. It was just a retrospectively entertaining way to end our vacation in such a ridiculous way, lol. Overall, 3 stars - 4 stars for the flight and 1 star for the pre-flight buffoonery. read more

We have not flown United airlines in years and if we never fly United airlines for the rest of our lives that would be perfectly fine. We were targeted to leave Austin, TX at 10 am in route to Montreal Canada. Our passports were uploaded online on our personal computer and our boarding passes finalized and were ready to go. We arrived about 8 am at the Austin Bergstrom airport and cleared security with no issues. United airlines staff did not contact us regarding any issues during that 2 hour period. As we attempted to board the plane, we were notified of an error. The gate agent could not solve the issue and called a manager. It turned out to be a United Airlines system issue. We were within 2 minutes of the plane doors closing before we were given the ok to board. This was super nerve racking. The gate agent told us to check in immediately in Chicago at our connecting gate. It was about a 20 minute walk from our arriving to departing flight. When we arrived at the gate our plane was boarding. I went up to Marissa, gate agent and explained our situation. In a very derogatory manner you told us we need to wait to everyone had boarded the plane before you could hear our concern. She was extremely dismissive. We asked for a supervisor and she said there was no supervisor available, which was not true. We saw another agent in the distant who came over. As it turns out, she was a manager. She listened to our situation and printed new boarding passes and prioritized our entry onto the plane. This has been the WORST flying experience of our lives and I've flown to over 90+ countries. After a lifetime of flying large military airplanes, having follow-on jobs that made me fly on commercial airlines intensively, and then another follow on career of almost constantly living off a suitcase, I was able to earn status on both airline and several hotel chains for the rest of my life. I have never had a problem in United Airlines, instead, I have always found them to be courteous and efficient. Yes, I'm one of the few who buy Starbucks or Dunkin' Donuts gift certificates and give them to the flight attendants upon entrance to the airplane. You wouldn't believe how far that goes... In these modern times, when civility and decorum seem to have lost their way in constant acrimony, being nice to the air crew upon which your life depends is a wonderful thing. Yes, I pay for my seat, in the position in place in the airplane that I choose, and I make my reservation a good six months in advance. On this trip, although in an aging aircraft, the flight attendant crew was particularly helpful, considering that the United flight attendants have not had a contract now for a number of years and are grossly underpaid. Yet they remain doing their jobs that in many cases include saving lives. The landing at O'Hare airport was uneventful, we were ushered by pleasant gate agents, and were directed to our next gate, which, although it was a long walk, it is sort of expected in O'Hare. I checked into both of our flights on my iPhone United app 24 hours prior to our departures, including our two checked luggages. I will summarize both of our round trip flights from IAD to PHX and PHX to IAD here: Our IAD United bag drop went smoothly. Our IAD TSA Pre-Check also went smoothly. We took the usual airport transport from the main terminal to the C Terminal. Our UA1858 departed IAD Gate C7 at 12:50 PM and arrived at PHX on schedule at 2:57 PM. Our C7 Gate was conveniently adjacently located next to the United Club near C7. We were both in Group 1 boarding. Boarding went smoothly. We had cross aisle seats 10C and 10D on a nice Boeing 737-800. Cabin service was very good. Our local friend picked us up from PHX. I again checked into both of our flights on my iPhone United app 24 hours prior to our departure, including our two checked luggage. Our friend drove us back to PHX for our flight to return to IAD. Our PHX United bag drop also went smoothly. Our PHX TSA Pre-Check also went smoothly. Our UA1141 departed PHX Gate E3 at 1:30 PM and arrived at IAD early at 8:57 PM. The United Club was also near Gate E3. I will separately review both IAD and PHX United Clubs. We were both in Group 1 boarding. We boarded on time at 1:28 PM. We again had cross aisle seats 10C and 10D. Our aircraft was a nice Boeing 737 MAX 8. Cabin service was very good. Both flights were smooth. Our two luggages arrived at IAD carousel 4 within a reasonable amount of time. read more

We had flight delays coming out of phoenix because Chicago did not have enough air traffic controllers. Then we had a delay landing in Chicago and ended up in Milwaukee. Sounds like a pretty lousy trip and it was! But none of this was United's fault. When we emailed them they responded as a quality company should. They paid us back for our Uber from Milwaukee to our house. $150.... then they reimbursed us for the return flight. I appreciate them stepping up and taking care of us as best they could. Coming off of a great UA flight with Flight Attendant Thomas NGO, this UA flight #335 was unpleasant due to our flight attendant. He was not wearing a name tag but was about 508, with brown hair and a full beard. My wife had an aisle seat and I was seated at the window. We had another person seated in between us. When the drinks were being served my wife asked me a question and handed me my drink carefully across the middle passenger. The male flight attendant then said, " I would not want someone talking over me like that" something to that effect. We both thought his comment was uncalled for as it made the situation uncomfortable. In no means were we carrying on a full conversation during the flight or passing multiple items across the middle passenger. In September of 2025 we had another bad flight attendant experience which left us not wanting to fly United Airlines. Flight Attendant Thomas Ngo is a great representation for United Airlines, I just wished we had him on both our flights. I emailed UA and completed a complaint form and was given 5000 travel points which was appreciated. read more

This was the worst flight experience I have ever had. A scheduled 4:30 PM departure turned into being stranded in Orlando at nearly midnight. Delays kept stacking with extremely poor communication throughout: an initial four-hour delay for vague "reasons," another due to no cleaning crew, another after a bird strike, then a plane change, and finally a cancellation when the pilot declined to fly. Passengers were left with little guidance or consistent updates. The only option offered was an 8:30 AM flight the next morning, with the warning to arrive 2-3 hours early for TSA, which completely defeats the purpose. I have never experienced this level of disorganization or communication failure. Ironically, I have had more reliable experiences with budget airlines. I will not be flying United again. read more

Honestly, I have no idea how they are so high on the charts for airlines. The employees are not kind, flights don't leave anywhere close to on time, and they are just lackadaisical about everything. To boot, the last 2 flights I've been on had at least 2 hour delays each for "frozen toilets" which they called an "extreme weather condition". Of course, water freezing is awfully extreme, but what do I know. It's at least 50% of my last few flights have been delayed for one reason or another, even when the weather isn't a factor. American and Delta don't have this scale of problems that I've seen. read more

Always have delays or last minute cancellation. Staff is nice but the airline is horrible. Go with another airline trust me. Save yourself a headache. read more

One of the worst experiences I've had flying through an airline. Wouldn't recommend using them at all in Chicago O' Hare airport! Came here at 11:30 am expecting to be on a flight at 1 pm going to Portland well turns out they ended up delaying our flight 3 hours because of a "maintenance issue" then why was the plane operating if this was a issue when it shouldn't have been! Then the storms hit and they said we'll be on the later flight until 7 pm well turns out they delayed the flight until 10 pm and they claimed the flight should go out no issue WELL TURNS OUT THEY DIDN'T AND STRAIGHT UP LIED! Then why was the other flight going to Portland and not this one! also the same way with the American flight. Never got any comps for a hotel and all we got is a free $15 voucher for food unacceptable I wouldn't recommended using these guys! first time flying with them and my last will not use them again in the future. read more

I primarily Fly Southwest and this is a rare fly for me to fly United. My experience here was okay for the most part. Checking in and getting through security wasn't too bad. Staff here was friendly for the most part. There is a game change that I wasn't notified about when I was looking for my flight on my ticket. There were many delays to with my flight as well which pushed me back almost a whole hour from getting to my destination. The flight went by really smooth and I enjoyed the aircraft I was on. Overall, i wouldn't mind flying with United again. read more

Flight kept getting delayed and there was always a problem during the flight. Flight attendants weren't letting anyone in the bathrooms while the flight was stationary away from the gate. read more

Really with United Airline Customer Service and Website Instead of using Expedia or Hotels.com we decided to book direct with United. We paid more but thought it was OK because we would get the free checked bag using the United Credit card. Logged on the United Website, we got Hijacked to Jet Blue. End result: We paid more Flight is Jet Blue not United CS wouldn't give us the free checked bag. Very deceptive. Wow, can't believe United is using the old bait and switch. Anything for an extra dollar. read more
