We had a great experience with Eva Air flying from Chicago to Guangzhou China with a layover in Taipei.  The Boeing 777-300ER basic economy seats had nice leg room (33" pitch), but if you want to go for premium economy, those extra roomy seats (38" pitch) almost look like they are worth the healthy premium.  The attendants and in-flight service and entertainment were fine.  The food was quite good and included two hot meals and a cold sandwich.  With comfortable seats, the 16 hour flight to Taipei went by relatively quickly once you are able to nap some between movies, music, and the meals.   From my experience to date, I'd rate Eva Air slightly over Korean Air (which was also satisfactory but with less comfortable seats) and any foreign airline over the US airlines for long haul flights.   We also flew Eva Air on the return trip from Hong Kong to Chicago and again with a 3 hour layover in Taipei.  The long 13.5 hour leg was also on a Boeing 777-300ER.  The seat pitch was a bit tighter by 1-2 inches compared to the outbound flight and I learned the degree of comfort actually depends on the version of the 777-300ER you get!  Upon some subsequent research, there are 4 versions of the 777-300ER and only 1 version has the 33" pitch vs 31-32" for the other 3!  Otherwise, food and service and entertainment were again quite fine except for one meal (a Korean-style BBQ beef with rice which was mediocre).  Flying Eva will likely also mean a layover in Taipei and their international terminal is state-of-the-art, classy, and comfortable, and so that is another plus.  Overall, I'll say 4.5 stars, a great airline, and I would enthusiastically fly with them again.

Leading up to our trip, we kept receiving email confirmations that everything was on time no issues at all. Then, the moment we arrived at the airport, we were blindsided with an email saying our flight was CANCELLED. No warning. No heads-up. Just canceled. The only options given were to rebook or take a refund. The earliest available rebooking wasn't until Tuesday, which completely ruined our plans, so we were forced to take a refund and book last-minute tickets with United Airlines costing us significantly more money out of pocket. We were told our baggage would be transferred to our return flight, which added to the confusion and stress. Unfortunately, it didn't end there. On our way back from Puerto Rico, we were scheduled again for a 12:29 PM flight. Throughout the day, we kept getting delay notifications one after another until the last update pushed the flight all the way to 2:59 AM. We waited, checked in, and then unbelievably the flight was CANCELLED again. At that point, there was little to no help from staff. We were told to go to the Spirit desk, leaving us scrambling around the airport, trying to figure out how to retrieve our luggage from baggage claim, rebook flights, and then go back through TSA all over again. It was chaotic, exhausting, and completely disorganized. Once again, no available flights until Monday or Tuesday. Rebooking with Spirit would have meant more delays, more uncertainty, and more money wasted with zero guarantee the flight wouldn't be canceled AGAIN. So we had no choice but to request another refund and book with United Airlines spending even more money just to get home. This entire experience was stressful, expensive, and completely avoidable with proper communication and customer support. Spirit Airlines showed zero reliability and zero accountability. Never EVER flying with Spirit again. The "cheap" price is not worth the headache, the risk, or the extra costs you'll end up paying in the end. Huge thanks to United Airlines for actually getting us home safely.

While…read morethere is currently some construction going on, it still manages to feel small, efficient, and easy to navigate compared to many larger airports. Getting in and out is straightforward, parking is convenient, and the shuttle service to the terminal is quick and painless. We never feel like we need to arrive ridiculously early just to survive the experience. Inside the terminal there are enough food and drink options to grab a snack, relax for a bit, or enjoy the obligatory pre-flight cocktail before boarding. Seating areas are comfortable and the overall atmosphere feels much less chaotic than many major hubs. TSA has consistently been friendly during our trips, and security lines move surprisingly fast, which definitely helps take some of the stress out of traveling. The reason for 4 stars instead of 5 is mainly because the airport is showing its age in certain areas and the ongoing construction can make parts of the experience feel a little less polished right now. That said, the convenience factor is hard to beat. For travelers in the Omaha area, this is one of those airports that simply gets the job done without turning travel day into a headache. We fly through here often and will gladly continue to do so.

That means seats, bags and yes - food. No complimentary snacks or meals here folks. I'm good with that as airline food is generally disgusting - we grabbed baguettes at the airport and were happy with them. *Clean, new planes with friendly staff. *Reasonably comfortable seats with good entertainment options. Same cheap nickel and dime tactics, you have to pay extra for everything, but honestly aren't all American airlines going the way of Spirit? Here's what's better, the food was good, the flight attendants fluent in multiple languages and better at English than most American airline attendants. I love Icelandic chocolate bars, not sure why. The entertainment was a little different, lots of Icelandic music, movies, and travel videos. Seats as uncomfortable as any American airline, they use American planes like Boeing. Flights were delayed but changing planes in Reykjavic isn't so bad (small airport, decent food, not too uncomfortable). Bottom line, is the bottom line, I wouldn't have been able to afford my last trip or two without Icelandair's prices.

I flew on Emirates Airlines via O'Hare on my recent trip to India, with a layover in Dubai. And from the start, it became clear that this would be unlike other flights I've been on. We sat down in our seats to find a video screen in the back of the seat in front of us for our entertainment. OK, fine -- that's not revolutionary. But this had 150+ HD movies, including some new releases. I'm on a bit of a Marvel kick at the moment, and there was a section for pretty much every recent MCU movie. The video consul also had a plethora of TV shows to watch. Suddenly my 13-hour flight didn't look so bad. The flight attendants soon came around to give each passenger a zippered pouch containing an eye mask, ear plugs, socks, toothbrush and toothpaste. Definitely not too shabby. They also handed out menus for our flight. Considering this was an international flight, I was hoping we could get some meals on it. But these meals surpassed expectations. We got two full meals with a pizza snack during the longest legs of our trip. And the meals reflected our destination. The Indian and Middle Eastern fare was pretty delicious, with the chicken biryani and rice pudding being my faves. We also got free beer and wine on the trip, which helped a bit with trying to sleep on the flight. The chairs in coach were decently comfortable, and the staff was friendly and helpful. The planes appeared modern and clean. Whenever I go international again, I'll look to see if I can take an Emirates Airlines flight.

Boooo. Everyone at Virgin (they are actually employees for Continental, I believe, but with all the mergers lately that may have changed...) have always been nice and helpful. Organized boarding system, rarely a line to get to the counter, and every single time I've flown from ORD, the Virgin crew has been lovely. I swear they hire femme-bots as flight attendants, they are all crazy gorgeous (and yes, they are all great at their jobs, too!). The only thing I took a star off was for the ORD lounge. If you fly Upper Class or are a Gold Member, you get to use the lounge. Now, I realize that with one flight a day, only in the summer, they can't set up their own lounge, however, they share it with Swissair, and it's just sad. I know, total #firstworldproblem, but if I were paying full price for a ticket (which I never do....Watch the sales!), I'd be annoyed. Last time I was in there, they were out of almost everything to eat, were out of bottled water, and had all but a few bags of peanuts left. This, again, is because they are a shared lounge, so it's first come first serve with all the other airlines. I've flown out of Boston, and they also have one flight a day to LHR, and man, that lounge is incredible. Small, but just wonderful- it's a shared lounge as well, but Virgin runs it, and it's awesome. (also, if you ever get the chance, the Virgin London Arrivals Revivals Lounge at LHR is insane, and the London Virgin Clubhouse for outbound flights should seriously be on your bucket list.) So yeah, Virgin rocks....I can't wait until my next Virgin trip to London.
