I've flew United Airlines before and thought it was okay. The only thing I like about this airline is that when you download the app, you get mass notifications on your flight. Information on delays, your estimated time travel when you are on the plane or walking to your gates. I didn't like that they didn't have movies to watch on the planes. If you wanted to watch , you have to download the app and watch it on there. Our flight in Newark New Jersey was delayed for 4 hours and I was extremely tired. We didn't fly out until close 11:00 pm. It wasn't their fault, Mother Nature happened with heavy storms. The customer service was good and easy to change on the phone but of course you have to pay extra. They are okay and grateful they kept us safe. But they won't be my first to pick when traveling. read more

First, they sold me a ticket that apparently violated their own policy for minimum connection times. Then when the first flight got delayed causing me to need to change the second one, the woman at the desk was super late and really rude for no reason. I don't know if she was expecting me to be rude because I know customer service positions can suck, but she refused to speak to me for the first few minutes I was waiting, even walking away twice without saying anything, and I didn't do anything to warrant that. Then out of nowhere she loudly yells that I was recording and that wasn't allowed, but I wasn't recording anything?? It was truly bizarre. So here it goes. Not my business, but kinda my business? I recently flew United Airlines, and something happened that I thought was weird and messed up a little bit. I was at the kiosk grabbing my boarding pass. This guy next to me begins to talk to the representative there. I overhear he is a "LEO" (I'm guessing some police or something). He is not flying alone, I think. Anyway, he is informed that he is seated in the back of the plane. He says "ok" or something, but I am like, what?! I don't care to keep the rear bathroom safe. I care about the cockpit!!! Then the dude pauses and says something like any chance to move up, and the representative said, "I can't do that from here. Only the gate agent." Holy BS. He is the safety of the plane. A bonus cause United is not paying for him, and he gets "back of the bus." Maybe because he was not flying alone would have been a better excuse but I am like, if something happens on this flight and people find out there was an armed police or federal guy there pushing the back of the plane and wasn't in position to protect the plane boy! The number of class action suits against the airline will be staggering. I'm not the brightest businessman, but I still remember 9/11. read more

DO NOT believe United gate agents when they say Overhead bins are already full and mandate that you Gate Check your bag before boarding. Tonight, Sean/ Shawn a gate agent in Cincinnati mandated that bags be gate checked because "The crew has informed us the overhead bins are full". I questioned Sean / Shawn about this because only 2 of 5 groups had boarded but he said they were full. However, once on the plane, only about 50% of the overhead bins were full. when I questioned the crew, they said they never told the gate agent the bins were full and a public announcement was made apologizing and restating they had not to.d the gate agent anything. So, if you are mandated to gate checked a bag, I suggest you comply with a bag tag, but go ahead and take the bag on board (instead of leaving it on the jetway). read more

I'm disappointed in United for many reasons. 35$ to check luggage is a joke then they turn around and dig through my bag. Not only dig but dump my medication out of a pill holder and a ziplock bag. They opened my cooled bag in my suitcase and left it open letting my insulin get hot and go bad a bee bottle is 300$ becuse the insurance will not pay for extra so thanks a lot my clothing was folded and it's tossed everywhere in the bag now. I got a seat with points and was put in the back of the plane which was not a big deal but it's 24 and 12 passengers 4 of which were in the back of the plane 2 in the seat in front on in the seat accord. Went on a trip back in September to visit some friends. Flying United was by far the worst experience I've ever gone through while traveling. I was flying from CVG-ORD-DSM...First plane was delayed and was never given a reason as to why or a time frame. After 3hrs I finally get on the plane. Flight was great and I land in Chicago. But due to the first plane being delayed I now had to wait another 7hrs for a new plane. After 11hrs of delays and traveling (I could've driven to Des Moines, IA in that timeframe). Flying back DSM-ORD-CVG, yet another delay at least this time they gave us a timeframe but still no reasoning. After a 2hr wait we get on the plane, again the flight was great. Land in Chicago where I had to sprint to the next gate just to catch my next flight to which was extremely disorganized and felt like boarding took forever...I watched 2 other terminals fully board the plane before I got to my seat. Then it took another 30-45mins to take off. Overall, I'll never ever fly United Airlines again read more

After the recent very upsetting death of a small dog... I was not happy that we were flying United on this vacation. I have to admit everything went perfectly. Staff were efficient, helpful and genuinely concerned. I am starting the vacation by getting upper resp infection and they gave me extra beverages and checked on me extra which I thought went over and above. They all seemed friendly and positive. They left a bit late but still got us to our destination a bit EARLY. Landing was smooth and overhead announcement tried to add bit of humor. Seats were comfortable though it was a smaller plane... Most comfortable trip Hawaii yet. read more

I fly between here and EWR regularly and cannot remember the last time at least one leg of the trip wasn't delayed. Gate agents are friendly but their knowledge of United's processes seemed limited compared to other stations when I requested services. read more

Having flown over 2 million miles on 20 different airlines, United has manages to be the worse Airline in the USA and possibly the world. Customer service is non existent and their equipment is suspect to the point where getting a plane that works is about a 50/50 proposition. I am a photographer. Girl booked me a flight to shoot her wedding. She went as cheap as she could with the ticket and all I get is a tiny carry on. I CAN't check this bag because it's 10k of camera gear and if something at all happens to it this girl doesnt get wedding photography and neither does my next bride. Can't get on app, online or call to get an upgrade or purchase baggage to get my camera bag on the flight with me. Get to airport in Denver, explained the situation and they called the gate to let them know i was going to carry on my camera bag. Get to Cincinnati airport for returning flight and it was completely opposite experience. Wouldn't let me upgrade ticket or pay in any way shape or form to carry on my extremely sensitive camera gear. They wasted a ton of my time and I nearly missed the flight back to Denver where my next wedding awaited just hours away nearly giving me a nervous breakdown and ruining a special day for hundreds of people and costing me a job for this 3rd party site. Of course I get on the plane and there is literally no luggage in the top compartments. I am a paying customer not trying to get anything for free and they nearly ruined my career over nothing really. Tons of space on the plane, money in hand and just zero customer service. Absolutely stone walled me for no reason. Terrible policies, crap-ass customer service and just zero humanity. I work really hard and go way out of the way for my customers and clients and have spent my life in customer service as lots of people do. Do not fly with these clowns. They will penny pinch you into failure. Fly Delta - worth the extra cash up front because they do not nickle and dime you and provide a standard or customer service that United simply can't and wont. read more

I hate that if you purchase a certain ticket you can't check in on line and have to wait until someone inspects the size of your carry on at the airport. I wouldn't even give this Airline a 1 star rating but it makes you put something there. My husband and I earned a trip to Puerto Rico and chose to fly United. Big mistake! The day of the trip we boarded the plane but all passengers were asked to leave the plane as it was having a mechanical issue that would take a few minutes to fix. Well the few minutes turned into an hour causing us not to be able to make our connection flight. We knew while waiting we wouldn't make the connection so we got in line to try to get another connecting flight and were told basically no available options until the next day but they didn't have enough seats to accommodate us on those flights as well. You see our 7 year old daughter was coming with us as well. They stated they only had 2 available seats and we needed 3. The earliest they could get us there was on Saturday morning and we were scheduled to return Sunday afternoon thus only giving us a day in Puerto Rico. BTW we were scheduled to go on Thursday morning. We asked to be moved to another airline and they told us we were scheduled on American Airlines and gave us confirmation numbers. I consoled my 7 year old as she watched the plane finally take off with out us and the only saving grace I had was to tell her we would be flying out the next day. Well later that afternoon my husband went online to print the boarding passes off to American only to find they only transferred My ticket and didn't transfer his or my daughter's. At that point we were told the next available option was to fly on Saturday and we wouldn't get there until Sunday morning....the day we were supposed to be returning so we cancelled the trip. We were told to contact their customer care department via email which we did and this is the response we received: Subject: United Airlines We apologize for not meeting your expectations, and for any inconvenience we may have caused during your recent trip. We are constantly looking for opportunities to improve and look forward to providing you a better experience on your next United flight. Thank you for your business. Sincerely, United Customer Care Not even signed by a person! Some generic email basically saying sorry about the trip you never got to go on hope you have a better experience with us in the future! To add insult to injury when I tried to contact them they keep telling you there is no person you can speak to directly and that you have to send more emails to their customer care department or send the request via mail. Customer care takes 5-7 business days to respond and via mail takes 20-21 business days. I have never seen such poor conflict resolution from a company in my life! We missed out on a trip we worked for and earned due to the company's mechanical issue with their plane, their inability to change our connecting flight to a new one with the number of available seats needed and then their human error of only scheduling 1 of the three parties to the other airlines flight. Even though they gave us confirmation numbers for all three of us! My Family will no longer give United our business! read more

I am so tired right now, I have had a stressful experience today with United at CVG. The customer service was helpful but the support for the people behind the counters is not where it needs to be. Our flight was delayed going to Denver because of mechanical failure. I accepted it and decided to wait it out for a few. The attendants advised that the plane had further delays and the team would need to use a different airplane coming in to fly out on. We had already missed our connecting flight so we decided to leave and board a different flight the following morning. We left the airport to get something to eat because all the restaurants close early at CVG at around 7 PM. When we got back, the security gate was closed and we were unable to go to the boarding terminal to speak to the gate attendants. It didn't matter anyway because we had rescheduled the flight to the following morning so we spoke to the attendant at the baggage check-in. He was a nice guy and help us out by rerouting the bag off the flight. And told us to wait downstairs, it shouldn't take longer than 20 minutes to reclaim the baggage. We waited for about thirty minutes. The baggage did not come, so we tried speaking with the attendant but he was not at his post. I am not sure if he was on lunch or something, if he was I can't say that's his fault but it was very nerve racking. So I spoke with the attendant upstairs again and he tried making some calls but none of the people behind the scenes were answering their phones or contactable. During that time I got a call from my wife downstairs that the baggage attendant had come back to his post. So I spoke with him after he help a few people. He made some calls and told me to wait a bit they will have it up soon. We are waiting for about two hours since the original conversation with the attendant at the counter. The baggage teller yelled out for me on the baggage floor. I came over and he informed me that the baggage left for Denver. I wasn't mad or upset with him, I know the issue isn't his fault. Although, I didn't like that United's ground crews didn't provide proper communication with the front desk associates. If my luggage was suppose not going to get unloaded, advise the passenger immediately of the issue. I work in operations and understanding that the associates on the front with the customer in their face are their customers. Providing the correct information so we are not wasting each other's time is vital. As we are waiting, my wife is getting more and more agitated. I get the attendant can get put in an awkward situation, well so does the customer. I have to explain to the spouse that the team failed, the people up front told them but the team didn't do their portions. If the reasoning for not having something is safety or anything of that nature, that's fine, but please say something and don't leave others to hold the bag. I had to order a hotel and paid for ride-shares to stay another night I'm not budgeted for. I want to write on and on about my experience but I am so tire. United flight are divided teams, if I were to recommend any airline for my future business trips, it will probably be delta or America. Going forward. I was planning on United to be my choice of airline for all my companies business needs, now I see that the behind the scene work is not all there. Choosing United over Delta or American was a terrible mistake and if you have a change to choose an airline, go with them and stay away from "Divided Airlines". read more

Booked a flight from Cincinnati to Washington DC that was scheduled to leave at 2:50pm. First delay was for weather until 3:30. At 4:00, the plane arrived, only to find a problem with a tire. No update for 2 hours as we watched absolutely nothing happen with the plane. At 5:15, a passenger asked for the gate agents to say something about the status. They hesitated and finally said the new tire was on an incoming flight to arrive at 7:00. Just then, my United flight update texted a new departure time of 8:30pm. Took my bags off my flight, then lied for 3 days about the location of my bags and destroyed my property. I was moving to Africa and the broke my laptop, machine I needed for my business and a juice machine. They route all their calls through a call center in New Delhi or Manila and they each lied to me more than 10 times. I have been in one of the hottest places with no change of clothes and they gave me the run around after they destroyed my property and told me to get the local airline to pay for it because of the iata agreement. I look ot up and it says the biggest carrier is responsible. Liars to the end. I lost over $1000 in property and I most likely wont get it back. Fuck you United! It'll cost me 4 times as much to replace what you destroyed and you're passing the buck. I wish the government would shut you down if you dont bring back those call centers from 3rd world countries and employ Americans. read more

I arrived at the airport in Lexington, Ky at 6am for a flight that did not depart until 8am. I had a meeting a 6pm in Cleveland. At 7:30am we informed that our plane had mechanical difficulties and the flight was delayed until 12pm. At 11am I was informed that the flight was delayed until 5:30pm. I was told the only way I could get to my destination before 7pm was to take a flight from the Cincinnati airport an hour and a half away!I took it because I no other choice but to wait until the next day. I called United's customer service and they did not offer to upgrade my ticket and could not tell me how they were going to compensate me for having to drive and hour and a half away, and an hour and a half back. When I asked to speak to a supervisor I was told that I was speaking to a supervisor and that I could not talk to anyone higher up. I asked who she reported to and she said she did not report to anyone and that if I wanted to file a complaint then I would have to go to the United's website. I asked to speak to someone and was told there was no one I could speak to. I have never had such poor customer service. I will not fly united again. read more
