I needed a fence/guard rail to be mounted on my 5 foot block retaining wall. I also wanted a metal fence that will last a long time. Out of several fence installers that we contacted, my family and I found Alex's proposal to be the best for our needs. He was very genuine and very responsive. After coming over to our site, Alex provided a very reasonable estimate for the fence length and materials. We particularly wanted a metal fence with a post that could be mounted directly on the retaining block which none but Alex was able to offer. Once I decided to go with UFS, I had to pay a 10% deposit and sign the contract via DocuSign which was a very easy process. Note that like most vendors they pass a credit card surcharge of 3% on to the customer. Michelle who deals with the accounting in UFS was very helpful and professional as well. Michelle helped quickly schedule a time within the next 24 hours and Alex came by with a crew of 2 to work on this. I didn't get the names of the two crew members but they were very friendly and polite. They were also highly efficient and finished the work in several hours. Also when I noticed that they mounted the fence onto an existing wooden post and asked for a change to add an an additional metal post, they quickly made the change the next day at no cost. My fences were built in 1988 so it was time for new fencing. I got 4 quotes from 4 licensed businesses. United Fencing weren't the cheapest , but weren't the most expensive, but what made the difference was the staff from beginning to end. Robert was the gentleman that came out to bid the job. He was nice, professional and respectful. I asked questions and he listened to all my wants and needs. He gave great advice which I did take and I'm so glad I did. The guys that built the fence were great. I didn't have to clean any mess and the walk through went well. I had one concern that Robert took care of himself. The office staff were great and friendly. 5 stars +++ I have to say it's been a journey to get our backyard fence up so I can get a 55' batting cage up for my boys that I purchase last October for their birthday and it's still not up (yet) a year later (though a few weeks to go)... That said, I first had to take down a huge pepper tree that had over run the back yard to make room for this batting cage. The tree had grown into a county chain link fence that runs several miles. I hired a contractor to remove the fencing from the tree and then put up a white vinyl fence afterwards to block the back yard from the county arroyo. Turns out he wasn't licensed at was using another contractors license number. I had to "let him go" and now the state contractor's board is dealing with him. For insurance and liability purposes I couldn't let him try to fix the poor workmanship, nor would it be legal so hired a reputable fence company to take over.. The second company came in and dug deep and put in line posts the first guy couldn't, but the material was damaged and broken, not what was ordered and paid for then never returned calls even after promising to fix.. in the meantime, they cut the posts from the chain link county fence that needed to be replaced immediately.. Then comes the scary letter from the county to fix or be fined.. ASAP. I reached out to the second (licensed and supposed reputable company) and once the job went south even after agreeing to fix the problems I had a couple emails about the vinyl company not getting back to them and still refused to return my calls despite pleadings to just call me back as it wasn't even about the material anymore. I would have worked something out if they would have helped with the county fence.. easy, it's chain link right? Nope.. radio silence for 3 month and frantic I called and messaged many companies. Who was my hero?? I finally searched "Tracy, CA" instead of Bay area for Livermore and a new company came up.. United Fence Services. I sent them off a message and had a response by the next day where several email interactions took place to determine the need. Robert came out the next day to view in person as the photos I sent were descriptive, but was best seen in person considering past issues. Robert arrived on time, wearing a mask due to COVID and listened to all of my concerns.. he said he would have an estimate soon and I had it the next day.. WOW! I have been in contact with more contractors than I ever wanted to be and only UFS got me an estimate the next day and quite concise. I then asked to have pricing separated for different portions of work due to now two different issues involving the contractors board and issues... what a breath of fresh air. I was told they could complete the job next week. I just signed the contract and mailed the deposit in (literally 5 min - yes, 5 min after dropping the envelope at the post office) asking if they could come tomorrow. Uh, yes!! So they arrived on time, did the exact work needed. I was a bit of a "helicopter mom" due to past issues and following specifications from the "nastygram" from the county about repairing the missing county fence. Even though they had started working on making the fence posts they were repairing look like they should to not interfere with the vinyl, I had to stop and have them re-do to meet the county guidelines. After all, that second fence company was coming back to take that awful looking fence down anyhow (well NOT). However, everything I asked for was done without complaint to me or after walking away. Such a wonderful experience I feel like it must have been candid camera after my last 2 fence contractor experiences. I really cannot recommend this company enough. My fence seemed basic, but has some strict criteria and they came through for me. I haven't heard back from the county and am assuming at this point all is good. Work was completed 3 weeks earlier than the county requested and the "complete by" date was 8/28/20... to date no complaints from them and certainly not by me. I must add Robert was most enjoyable to meet and easy to work with the estimate. I worked with the Tracy office and the staff there on the phone and by email were all terrific. Payment was easy and I just would love to give them all a huge hug. My white vinyl still looks like crap and is missing parts and sagging and awful so it's too bad they don't do vinyl fencing too or I would hire them in a heart beat for that. I don't understand why more people haven't posted awesome and amazing reviews for this company. I just so appreciate them taking on my little 55' fence repair job rejoining my back property to adjacent properties seamlessly along the arroyo in Livermore. read more

I'm totally skeptical about using companies that none of my family/friends have never used. However, after reading through many reviews for many fence companies, I called United Fence Services for a quote & ultimately chose them to do our fence. I'm completely satisfied with the work that was done, their workers were friendly & professional. Email communication was great. Took 2 days to take down and rebuild 64 feet of fencing and add lattice. The end result was beautiful and they cleaned up completely! It was like they were never there, left my backyard looking better than before they showed up, seriously! My experience with UFS actually started when I contracted with R&S Overhead Garage Door. I found out that R&S does not do residential gates, but sub-contracts with UFS for that work. OK, red flag number 1. After receiving a number of drafts from R&S for the gate design, I agreed, and got to meet the owner-to-be of UFS; Jose. I questioned him, we discussed the design, and explained exactly what I wanted, did not want. All good. The day of the gate install, all good, everyone there ready to move forward, right? Well... So, the gate was not made to the spec of the drawing; long story short, it was too short. So, off goes everyone to "fix" the problem and come out the next week to do the real install. Flag #2. So, after taking a second day off, felt the need to be on-site with all of the work going on, install day number two arrived. The gate was repaired, and it looked good. All went in well, and except for my having to coach Jose's workers on the placement of each board on the fence, as they weren't comfortable with the plans/drawing, I was happy with the end result, except... First the cracks on the caulking of the main post, so that took days and multiple times to finally get done, and I had to paint it myself, as I did not trust their level of detail. So, I paid the bill, and then the other shoe, a really big one, dropped. The gate, approximately 7' wide would no longer latch. After complaining about this for quite some time, and having Jose's "team" out to look at this, I finally figured out what had happened. The gate that was "guaranteed not to sag" which is why I let them talk me out of the supporting wheel I had included in my original design, had indeed sagged. So, after about 2 months of trying to get Jose out on site, we finally have the meeting where I unveil his problem. To which he says "I hate this gate", adding something to the effect "this has been a nightmare". No apologies, no wow thanks for finally doing our job of figuring out the issue, no how can we make this right... So, I asked Jose how he planned to fix it, to which he responded he would lower the latch plate so the plunger would work. I said "seriously", you want to put a band aid on this, adding I need a fix so the gate does not continue to sag! Eventually, I agreed to allowing an addition of a supporting cable to raise the side that was sagging, even though that was one of the main items I wanted to avoid with my original design. Then, to top off the experience the two "team" members who came out to install the agreed upon support cable, were not able to finish off the drilling of a hole Jose had agreed to because Jose had not communicated with them, therefore they did not have the correct equipment. It's been a couple weeks since I informed Jose that his guys could not complete the project, and he said he would send someone out "when it's convenient", as in they are too busy to come up just for that small item, to which I pressed him to no avail. I have not heard a word since, and don't expect to. I agree with others that to get this company, Jose, to communicate takes act of god, and even then, they will probably cancel, or have some lame excuse why the work cannot be done (that happened a couple times during the saga). I would not trust this company with a small, medium or large project. Sorry Jose, I like you as a person but I would never, ever do business with you or your company again, period!!! read more

Robert came over to bid on our project and stated 2 weeks max from start to finish, upon signing a contract. So far, so good. After some prodding, a contract was emailed, signed and immediately returned. After over a month of calling and asking Robert and Julie why the project was not being started, all I received was one excuse after another. After a month and many broken promises to begin working, Julie called to inform me it would take 3 more weeks AFTER the materials were ordered. What? I am not sure how 2 weeks turned into 2 - 3 months (assuming this was not a blow off). I am a very forgiving person (especially with laborers) but at this point, any remaining confidence in United Fence Services was totally blown. I told her to pound sand and we would not be doing business with UFS. Since they are so shady, I requested (then had to follow up to receive) written confirmation the contact was voided. If you sign a contract with these losers, make sure you have a completion date. My suggestion is find another company that lives up to their promises, valuing their word / reputation. read more

LOOK NO FURTHER for a great iron fence/motorized gate!! I moved to Oakland a few years ago and chose these guys to put a fence all the way around my front and side yard, with a Liftmaster remote-controlled gate for the driveway. Robert did my estimate and managed the project; unlike almost all other contractors I have worked with, he was always on time, kept me informed, never "flaked" on me, and the project took exactly as long as he said it would (a huge plus when you have to arrange for a day off to be there for the work). The gate is of the highest quality/strength and still looks brand new, and I always get compliments on it. UPDATE: I was running late for work last week and accidentally backed into the gate, not realizing that it was already closing and that I was moving just fast enough that the electronic eye couldn't stop it quickly enough. I got the gate to function for a few days after that, but then it got totally stuck open, and I was sure I was going to hear that the entire $1,295 gate needed replaced. But Robert came out, took a look and said "Oh, well I see the gate has jumped off its track here." He then just lifted it up (despite it being super heavy!) and placed it back on track, and the gate immediately started working perfectly again. No charge!! These guys are awesome. read more
