I am older luckily my health is fine I would dread to see what would happen if I had a serious health issue. The plan says you can have a free PCP but it's impossible to find one even my nice UHC "navigator" eventually accepted defeat. The OTC benefit never works at the very few places that accept it. Every place I go say the same thing their is a problem with UHC software that apparently never gets fixed. When it works which is very rarely the coverage is bizarrely arbitrary. The representatives literally are never helpful but weirdly say things like " I'm glad I was able to be of assistance today" And I reply "But you haven't". Scam. I just got a bill over a year after receiving service. They told my eye clinic that they needed to make an "adjustment." When will they stop making adjustments? I have been trying to get UHC to correct their problem for nearly 90 days! It started with UHC saying I have other primary insurance. I do NOT! The coverage that they were "notified" that I had other coverage which turned out to be my husband's who has been deceased for 4-1/2 years. I was told that they would do a coordination of benefits & resubmit the claim for payment. 30 days later get a bill from my provider, so called UHC & was told the bills were pending. I said "really? The billing is from Feb 2023." But again I said okay. 30 days later another bill from my provider. Called UHC. Told again it was pending. I asked to speak to a supervisor & was denied. Finally was connected with someone with Optum & she said that she could locate all the bills that had been pulled back whe UHC said I had other coverage & that she would follow up on these & get them paid. 30 days later, another bill from my provider‐bill is now 90days past due. Called UHC again I was assured that they were being processed. I called back 4 days later for an update & was told that the bills were still pending. After being disconnected 2x, the advocate said i needed to make arrangements with my provider. I refused & asked again for a supervisor & was told none was available-wouldn't say what was making them unavailable (lunch break, potty break, etc) no response. Then she (her name was Lyne) blind transferred me to my provider's office - which was closed & I didn't need to talk with them. I called back & an advocate Sean FINALLY connected me to a supervisor, Archie. Archie's asked for 24 hours to review all the notes & she would call me back. That was 21 hours ago & no phone call yet. This is ABSOLUTELY the worst service I've ever had! My provider advised me that they are sending me to collections & can not schedule me an appointment while my account is delinquent. And one of the most ludicrous statements I heard from several advocates is "would you be willing to take a survey?" Second most ludicrous was asking if I wanted to add a rider to my dental policy. I replied "seriously? You're asking me for more money you can mismanage?" Absolutely the worst! After having UHC as my Medicare supplement & several years with UHC being chosen by me as my employer based insurance I will be looking elsewhere next cycle. read more

United Healthcare is a sad insurance provider; we did add eyecare, so they are paying more for insurance to add eyecare this year. In the greater Seattle area, NO eye Clinic takes United Healthcare because they use a 3rd party eyecare insurance that nobody likes; therefore, I still have not found a good eye doctor that takes this insurance, and I have checked about 35 places near me. Whatever you do, stay away from them if you can. They don't even seem to know what they're talking about. I feel sorry for their reps. On the phone, you may get completely different answers to the same question by different reps. I'm stuck with them. Please DO NOT make the mistake of paying any of your provider bills through the UnitedHealthcare website. Pay your provider DIRECTLY. If you pay through the United Healthcare website, as I mistakenly did, they use a 3rd party payer to eventually pay your provider. This payer has 60 days to pay your healthcare provider, and the healthcare provider may well harass you in the meantime because they don't realize it may take 60 days to get their payment. I paid UnitedHealthcare $900 in early July, with the understanding they would facilitate that payment to my provider. I paid via credit card. United Healthcare took that money and over a month later STILL has not paid my doctor. So the doctor's office is calling me, wondering where their money is and wanting all this information about when United Healthcare might have sent a check, what the check number is, etc (of course I do not have that info). So I am busy spending 45 mintutes trying to get my bill paid (that I already paid) and running interference between my doctor's office and my insurance. Pay your provider directly. Awful! I spoke with 4 different people and got 4 completely different answers! After each call - I was assured that my libre sensor would be covered and told me what to do. I'd go to get it filled and it was denied and I would call again - told a different thing - do that and denied again . . . 3 times! On the fourth call - they said - no way was it covered. I inquired why the other people told me it was covered. She had no answer for that. I have had UHC for years and would not recommend it to anyone! They have the absolutely worst customer care l have ever dealt with. I get shuffled around constantly to representatives that are not trained well enough to answer calls. An average call will take of one hour! I am generally sent to the wrong dept or my personal favorite is getting disconnected, and no call backs. When you are being redirected multiple times, l have to start each call telling them who l am and all the info about me. If you don't have high blood pressure before you call, you will have it when your done. I am very disappointed with a bill I received and after disputing, here is the reason why: In February, I experienced chest pains and decided to visit urgent care in Covington, Washington. I was quickly seen by a Dr and informed that they were going to admit me to the ER. While I was in the ER, I met with Dr #1 and he ordered a chest X-ray and 2 EKGs. I was there for several hours and the quality of care I received from the medical staff was excellent. There must have been a shift change and I ended up dealing with Dr #2. A few months later I received a bill for almost $900 and at first I was told the bill was because I maxed out my coverage. I knew this was inaccurate so I disputed the bill. NOW, I'm being informed that United Health Care will not cover this charge because one of the Drs was not part of the United Health Care network. Guess I should have interviewed the Dr first before receiving the care to make sure it was "in network." At the same time, I'm not sure what I as supposed to do during a shift change or whatever caused Dr #1 to leave. And come on United Health Care, which one is it? Is it because I "maxed out" my coverage already in February or is it because one of the 2 Drs I met with was out of network. If you have to be admitted to the ER, be sure to interview the Dr first. Ask his a list of questions in order to avoid and out of pocket charges. read more

When calling up, the customer service lady was extremely rude, spending time arguing with the customers, instead of listening and trying to help. At this time he doesn't need this service, and I feel that if it is not needed at the time, offer the service when he is in need. i just tried to apply for plan D with this company. I am a member of AARP in good standing since I turned 55. After being dumped off the website, when I tried to apply, I was on hold for half an hour - then talked to a another person. When I got that person, they gave me a second number. On hold for another half an hour - Talked to THAT person for a half an hour, giving them all my information. then they told me I do not qualify as I am ''only'' 59. I had told them when I got on the phone I was 59, should have terminated the call right then. I am on Dialysis, and so I was told I DO qualify through this company by my doctors. I AM on Medicare. People with kidney failure are put on Medicare right away. They wasted my time, as well as having really terrible hold music. I cannot recommend this company at all. Since their so-call agent sits behind a computer and uses an autodialer to make their calls. So these asshat call me the first time. As soon as I hear an Eastern Indian Accent I hung up. Due to all the spam/scam calls, I've been getting was from India Call Centers. Within a minute they called again. I answered and ask why you keep on calling me? He then proceeds to try and tell me all the features and blah blah. I said no and told them to stop calling me. I don't hear anything from them for a good week and then I get bombarded with miss calls from them. This is no exaggeration either. Within a 2-minute time frame, they were able to call me 20 times in one day. The next day was 13 times and the following day was 8 times. So I finally was able to get in touch with my service provider and explain my problems. I was able to get my situation solved. Spam Blocker added Call Screening added. Block Calls added. This happened last month. So this month 11/13/2021-11/18/2021. I was able to check online and see that I have been getting missed calls from them. I counted a total of 50+ miss calls that were blocked. Good luck on trying to reach my number again you Assholes. You're lucky I have to select a star. Otherwise, It'll be no stars. read more

My wife and I just received the "2018 Annual Notice of Changes" to the AARP Rx Plan with United Healthcare and, frankly, are shocked at the increases. Allow me to recap below: Monthly plan premium: up 29% Deductible: up 1.3% Tier 2 drug copay: up 250% Tier 3 drug copay: up 36% Tier 4 drug copay: up 37% We are particularly shocked that AARP, an organization that promotes itself as advocates for the elderly, would even consider continuing to offer a prescription plan with this sort of unconscionable one year increases. It appears that AARP is now more focused on protecting it's financial relationships with companies such as United Healthcare than on protecting its members. My wife and I will be be switching to another plan as soon as enrollment opens and are seriously considering cancelling our AARP membership. We're confident that many of AARP members feel the same way but remain silent. We can't express how disappointed we are that AARP didn't warn its members of these increases and continues to promote this plan. As to United Healthcare, we will be cancelling this plan and doing everything in our power to ensure we - along with every friend, neighbor and relative that we can personally manage - never do business with this company or any of its affiliates. In the past three days, I spent 7 hours and 4 minutes (mostly on hold) trying to resolve an overcharge on my account. I was told that they had paid my Medicare government payment (which they cannot do, and is illegal), that it was due to me having two accounts (which I cannot and do not have) and that they would call me back (which they haven't done). When I said I would involve my state Insurance Commissioner, they said "go ahead, they won't do anything". The issue is still pending. If I could leave this company, I certainly would! read more

I am quite upset with United Healthcare actually. I get monthly opiate prescription. Well first of all it is a 10 mg prescription. So what they do is double 5 mgs. Well I got a generic brand that was pretty much like a placebo and did not work at all. So my dr wrote a preauthorization to go to another pharmacy CVS as luck would have it which has become very unfriendly to the chronic pain community. Anyways they had a brand of generic that worked but I had to pay cash. So I ended up going back to my pharmacy and asked them about what generics they would cover , after I looked at my prescription directory it say's non specified generic. So my pharmacy only carried the Rhodes brand which is crap , so I had my pharmacy order the sun brand of 5 mg's and when they went to fill it, United Healthcare will not authorize it. They will only authorize the Rhodes brand 5 mg generic. So once again I paid cash. Who in the hell are they to tell me that I can ONLY GET one type of generic? I think that is horse hockey. So I am not sure that I will stay with them. Everytime I have called for provider assistance they know nothing. I needed advocacy assistance and they could not even help me with that. Not only those issues but they tell me look at my provider directory which is a huge PDF. File that takes up too much room in my phones hard drive and that directory just tells you names of dr's and not their specialty. Plus alot of the numbers are wrong. I am not happy with this nonsense. Plus, I stayed with a very awful dr because they told me due to the district she was in , I had to stay with my PCP and he knew nothing about chronic pain nor could he give me a referral to a different one. My dr was great UNTIL I got this insurance and once I did my care went to crap. She started tapering me crazy low and no reason why and I really think insurance companies SHOULD not have the kind of power they do over what dr's can or cannot prescribe. I recd a notification letter that I was eligible for "Extra Help" free drug plan through this company, apparently sponsored by the state Medicare program. So what - I don't need or want one. I don't even like paying for Medicare. I don't do doctors. A few months later they say I have to start paying as I no longer qualify for their strange unestablished, no reputation program. The letter indicating my liability for paying a premium was quite infantile and unprofessional in many ways, lacking any proper or expected contractual specifics. There were No references to specific information on which they based their eligibility and no procedural instructions. There was no coverage period, billing dates or frequency mentioned!! Just an arbitrary amount!! What is even more - the letter arrived after eligibility expiration!! I don't know if the state gave them my personal information, but I want this unauthorized solicitation and billing of elder people to stop. I want the unaccountable, vague and disturbing, fleecing, junk agency/company practices with insinuated liabilities to END. If our legislators can't figure this out, then what are we paying for?
