(Filled-up 02/23/19 SA @ 12:30am): Let's unite for gas stations that were open 24 hours...but rail against those who charged more for credit cards! An evening with fellow Yelpers was winding down, the company car was in dire need for fuel food, and Van Nuy's United Oil gas station was the only place I found that was still open. I frequented a sister station close to my parent's house (I was the Duke, bitches!), so I was familiar with their relatively reasonable prices. Normally during the day, I would've hit the nearby Costco Gas on Sepulveda Blvd. Would I find myself reunited with this fill-up joint the next time I was in the area!? PURCHASE 87 Unleaded Gas ($41.50): Oddly enough, it was difficult to find a gas station in this part of town that was still open, so thankfully I found this one which happened to be of the 24-hour variety. As the red empty light stared me down, I rolled into an available pump and went at it. After 13.39 gallons of gas at $3.09/gallon, my "CRaVing Mobile" was so full I think it was ready to explode! SERVICE Unless there was something wrong with the pump you were at, the machine was out of receipt paper, your payment card wasn't working, or decided to pay in cash to which you needed to go inside, it was all self-service. Thankfully, my Pump #7 flowed well and all was working fine. Since I didn't have a need to go inside the mini mart, I couldn't speak to that at all. PARKING (FREE) There were only a couple spots directly in front of the food shop to grab a quick snack or ask for directions. Otherwise, why would you need to park anyway!? ATMOSPHERE, DÉCOR, AMBIENCE Located at a busy corner/intersection of Van Nuys Blvd. and Sherman Way, this was a small-medium gas station with sufficient room to pull in and maneuver around cars if needed. It had a total of 3 pump stations (four pumps each). Available was soapy suds, squeaky squeegees, paper towels, and air or water stations - just like most gas stations I've been to. But, there were places to dump any trash you had. There were numerous ways to enter and exit the area that potentially created a bottleneck. ATTIRE Totally casual, so I would normally be in a t-shirt, boardshorts, and flip-flops. OVERALL United Oil's Van Nuys location helped me in a pinch with a near-empty tank and easily provided what I needed at a decent price. However, its location wasn't as centralized to the city center, lacked easy access to a nearby freeway, charged for air and water (price unknown), upcharged if you used your credit card ($0.10/gallon - I REALLY ABHORRED THIS!) and I couldn't recall if any competitors were in the area. I found good value based on the prices, service, and experience noted above (TOTAL paid experience was around $41.50 BEFORE any discounts and/or tip). And, although I inexplicably used a different credit card, they accepted my credit card of choice...AMEX! 3.0 STARS

Conveniently located on my regular route around town and this place is hands down the cheapest unleaded gas you can get even lower than ARCO. I always pay cash for the best deal which seems to be the way to go to get the most bang for your buck. Currently it is $3.95 / gallon for unleaded gas. I love it because with my Prius $30 gets me a full tank here. read more

Zero English worker. I mean not one word in English to the point where she charged my card and when I went back to fill up gas, I saw the pump was tagged "Not in Service" so I went back to her asking if I can fill up gas at the other pump. She, nodded her head yes So I got back in my car, moved it over to the pump that was working, but no gas was coming out went back inside. Explained it to her. I realize she does not understand a word. Other clients who are filling up gas had to help me figure out how to get my money back that she charged my card for. She was rude. She wouldn't service my car at the other pump. I was concerned about the money charged on my card. She didn't speak of word of English and everyone had to translate and everyone was confused as well as to why she's working there and can't speak a word of English read more

I love cost affordable gas! United has some of the best prices in Van Nuys and possibly even the San Fernando Valley second to Sinclair locations. Located on the corner of Van Nuys and Sherman Way this gas station is one of quality and convience with easy car traffic flow and more room than any other service station of been to as far as maneuvering in and out. The pumps are clean and easy to use and the service inside is pretty friendly. They have great snacks and beverages for purchases inside the mart and most of your typical convience store at a gas station finds. read more

First time there and I am so happy I found you! Than you, Arco down the street, for treating customers like crap!!... I filled up my tank in my truck, the only thing that didn't work was the receipt machine, which gave me the opportunity to go inside and interact with the sales guy. I asked the same thing I had asked Arco, that I didn't look at the number but if he could see my truck if he knows the number, (mind they have twice as much pumps or even more than Arco). Without skipping a beat he said "YES!! #3 and I am sorry Ma'am about the receipt, here it is!!" I was, WOW!!! All my annoyance about the horrible customer service experience I had just received from the Arco Station went away like that!!! And I was so happy that, in the end, I had not given my money to Arco... The rest of my day was just great and sunny!!! From now UNITED OIL will be my destination for gas. The worst gas station in LA ! Every night it's some big guy with glasses who hides in the back , sign says ring once , but you really gotta ring 100 times before he wakes up or come from the back ! He called the lady in front of me a BITCH cause she asked what took so long and told him he suppose to stop stocking and take customers he told her to fuck offf he was stocking and busy ! Caught me by surprise, he talk to customer and older lady that way. When it was my turn at window I told him it was not cool we waited and the way he talk to her ! He begin to curse me out we go back and forth he even hits me push out drawer calls me names and walk away ! Every time I Come he's the only one into it with customers he's really bad for business ! I had to give it only 2 stars because I have been going there for the last two years. The gas prices are the lowest in the area, but they recently changed their credit card max policy, at the pump, to $50. That really makes it an unpleasant experience with gas over $4, you have to hang up the pump, get your receipt. Wait for the system to reset and then charge your card again, just so you can actually fill your tank. The only people this doesn't effect are those who don't have a tank larger than 12 gallons. I will change my rating, when they go back to the way they have always been until this last two months of no credit card max at the pump. read more

Gas is what the world relies upon. It doesn't necessarily have to be petroleum oil, but natural to cooking oil. Southern California probably uses more gas than most of the US put together. Oh well, time to put gas everyday in our non-fuel efficient cars. United Oil is located on the busy Northwest Corner of Sherman Way/Van Nuys Blvd. I consider this the 4th cheapest gas location in the San Fernando Valley based on LosAngelesGasPrices.com. Costco leads followed by Arco, then Food4Less. United Oil has 12 stations and you can pay at the terminal or pay inside. I don't know what time they close if you want to pay by cash. I am not sure if you can pay by the window. They don't charge to pay on the terminal like Arco does, but consult your credit card company. I have been coming here and its a busy location. You just need to know when the right time to go. If you have a CostCo card, go to CostCo or drive further any pay cash at Arco or go 8 miles to Food4Less and get groceries. Horrible and rude. I pulled up an the pumps were shut off for no apparent reason. I tried to ask the young Hispanic girl if they were closed or what the problem was but she mumbled something without making eye contact through the bulletproof glass (Door was locked) I asked again for her to repeat and this time she yelled at me but still didn't make eye contact and I STILL couldn't understand what she said....so I left. read more

Cheap and quick. I've never had to wait for a pump and the gas isn't bad either. I actually only use Chevron usually... however with gas jumping to amidst $5/ gallon... I switched to one of their sister gases. read more

Be careful with this place and using your credit card. They appear to be part of some 'ring' which steals cards and passes the numbers around to various gas stations. Charges are just under $100 -- probably hoping no one notices. When I called to ask about it, they hung up on me. read more

One of the best gas stations I've been too. Everyone there are friendly and nice and never not once have they disrespected me or to other customers even if the customer back talked or gave them attitude. They greet u and leave u with a smile and plus the gas is good on ur spending limit for the week. read more

Once i went back in to update him, he ignored me like i wasn't even there. Will be stopping at a new gas station on my way to work from now on, as that employee made me feel unsafe and uncomfortable especially since I had no access to my car, and I will not be returning to this gas station.

United oil has the best gas prices in the valley and the best customer service in all the area that i have visited. For this reason i come to this gas station united oil of rapid 64 that is located on sherman way and van nuys. All the cashiers are charasmatic and kind and espicially Gloria Alvarez because she is veryb nice, one of the best people you can ever meet. She is very professional and greets u with a smile. I noticed that every customer appreciates her for being noble. My whole family comes every time for these reasons and we arent looking to change stations. read more

This gas station is one of the best i have ever gone to. They have good customer service and its easy to get gas and good on my budget. Other gas stations are rude and never look at your face to see your i.d when you buy cigarettes so no point in showing them ur i.d in the first place. In this gas station you get a smile when u walk to the window and they engage in conversation with you and help u with whatever u need. You leave with a "Have a wonderful day/night" and a smile. read more

Gas prices are ok but I'm not going to this place just because this place looks like Skid Row it's really really really bad u have bums drinking beers and asking u for money last Saturdays it was a fight night they were literally fighting each other I asked the manager if you can't get rid of this people she said no way that's not my job and the owner doesn't care read more

I always come to this specific gas station because of its great customer service and best prices I seen in the valley. It's great on my budget and I also love seeing the people there because of the smile they greet you with and the conversations we make that makes it seem like you knew them forever. Best gas station on my list. read more

I recently moved to the san fernando valley and so far the only good place i can get gas at a good price is this gas station on van nuys blvd and sherman way. What also got me by surprised was the people working there, so polite and kind with the best customer service ive seen so far. Number one on my gas list. read more
