Benton's Plumbing is now United Plumbing and while Benton's came highly recommended, United Plumbing is not on the same level. I called them to come out and fix a leaking toilet. The receptionist, Nancy, was friendly and helpful and called a few times to confirm the appointment. Since I work full time, I had my mom at my house to let them in. The technician took a look at the problem and went outside for what seemed like a long time to my mom, but came back and replaced the tank-to-bowl kit and the flapper. He didn't communicate the problem to her or give her an estimate of the cost. An hour and a half later, he gave her a bill for $342.50. She told him, if I knew it would cost that much, I would have bought a new toilet. He charged $192.50 for 90 minutes labor (much of the time was spent getting basic parts which he should have had on his truck and talking on the phone), $25 for the flapper (fine) and $125 for the tank to bowl kit, a part which retails for $8-$25. I called the company to question them on the cost. Nancy listened to me and said she would talk to the plumber and get back to me. A few weeks went by and I hadn't heard anything. I called again. Nancy told me she had talked to the manager and he agreed to give me a $50 credit on my next service. I told her that wasn't acceptable because my mom had paid for the service and I wanted her to give her the money. Who knows when I would need plumbing again? (And, after this experience I certainly have no intention of using them.) Also, interestingly, she mentioned the person who performed the service for me was no longer with the company! She said she would talk to the manager again and get back to me. Another week has gone by, and I have heard nothing. To top it all off, the part they used is really cheap. The handle is very loose and you have to hold it down for a few seconds to get the toilet to flush. Benton's reputation has been flushed down the toilet by United Plumbing. read more

Bentons saved me from a scam. I had a different plumbing company come out to unclog the drain connecting my kitchen and laundry. They tried to snake it, but were unsuccessful. They then said they needed to water jet it. Being a naive customer, I approved the water jet work. $650 later, the drain was unclogged. They then ran a camera down a couple of my clean outs and said they found a broken pipe. They used a radio locator and said the problem was under the slab in my garage and gave me a rough estimate of $8500 to fix it. I needed a second opinion. Bentons came over today to check it out and were extremely helpful and professional. They ran their cameras down the same clean out ports and traced the pipes to their proper location on the opposite side of the house. They were very methodical and did not find any evidence of a broken pipe at all. Furthermore, they showed me that the location the original company said the breakage occurred at didn't even have any pipes there at all! The first company was going to charge me $8500 to break up my cement slab only to find that there's not even a pipe there! Bentons professional manner, honesty, and reasonable costs have made me a happy, devoted customer. I will definitely be calling them for all of my future plumbing needs. read more

Our water heater busted late on a Saturday. Jason came out with a pleasant attitude and worked diligently to put in a new water heater. Ours was complicated because it was a 75 gallon (large) tank with a whole house circulator pump and a pressure regulator connection. He had to go and pick up a water heater then put it in a tight space in our garage by himself and then figure out our whacky setup. He did it and he did it well. What first impressed me is that I called for help with a clog in the drain from my kitchen sink and got a call back within a half hour that Jason would be there as soon as he could from Moorpark. Jason snaked out the line from the drain plug outside the kitchen and the problem was solved. At the beginning I asked him what his hourly rate is, but he responded that they quote on a per job basis. What took an hour was billed out at about $230, which put me of slightly. Having said that, I found Jason to be friendly, polite, and efficient. He recommended the line be hydro-washed, which makes sense since the clogs usually occur because of an accumulation of grease, but we agreed to leave that for now. read more

On 12/27/17, we had a water heater leak, which turned out to be complicated by a slab leak. Francisco did a great job dealing with our slab leak, rerouting pipes, and replacing our water heater. Very polite, earnest, competent service. We were so pleased with their work, we had Francisco come back a few weeks later and replace our old under sink angle stops and bathroom faucets. Super job! I can't review the quality of his work because I never got to that stage. Here's my interaction with Benton's Plumbing; which is very different than the experiences of other reviewers. Let me preface my review by saying that I rarely comment on any service unless it was either exemplary or was far below expectations. Based on the positive reviews on Yelp and Yahoo, I called Benton's to finish some trim installation on my new shower. I spoke with Gavin, Benton's partner, and he initially quoted me at $125 for the job. He stated that the job sounded fairly straight forward and that it would just be a flat rate for the work. This sounded great to me! When Benton showed up to do the work; he had an entirely different understanding of what was going on. He thought that he was only going to give me an estimate and not begin any work. He also doubled the quote to $250. Apparently he and his partner were not on the same page or had not spoken; but I had scheduled the work to begin and I had also been quoted a price at $125. I was desperate to get the job done, so I grudgingly agreed to the new quote. Even after I agreed to pay $250, Benton certainly did not display the "can do" attitude I expected based on the positive reviews I had read. All I heard from him was how he didn't want to take over someone else's work, how the $1000 shower set I had purchased was garbage and how I shouldn't have bought the kit from an online supplier (even though the supplier is extremely reputable), etc, etc. Look, you can decline to take the job; it's your right. At one point I even told him that if he didn't feel comfortable with doing the work, we would should go our separate ways. He assured me that he could do the work, he just had reservations. After all that, I should have moved on and got someone else. This is one of those times where I kept falling back to the great reviews and I wanted to give them the benefit of the doubt; maybe they had had a tough day. Anyway, we rescheduled for the next day at the higher rate. The next day wasn't any better as far as progress. Very little was accomplished in the installation of my shower trim. I again heard how much my manufacturer sucked (even though they provide a lifetime warranty). To be fair, there was some issues with the placement of valves from the previous plumber and tile guy that prevented the completion of work. Benton left the work with less than an eighth of it done. The understanding was that he was going to come back on Monday after he had a chance to troubleshoot with the manufacturer on the placement of the valves. My biggest gripe was that Benton half heartedly tried to assemble the trim pieces. He did not read the assembly instructions at all which led to pieces being put in the wrong spot or incorrectly jammed together. It later took me several hours to resort and place the correct things back together. I am far from being a handy man (I would place myself on the opposite end of the spectrum), but I can read and follow directions. Benton did follow up with the manufacturer on some trouble shooting for the valve placement for me on Monday; but that was pretty much it. Based on the info from the manufacturer, the job would require more work moving the valves (something I would have understandingly paid more for) in addition to installing the trim. Benton declined continuing job due to time constraints (and I also felt disinterest). Benton didn't attempt to charge me for anything; so I appreciate that (and thus the reason for two stars instead of one). I wish he had just declined the job from the get go, rather than wasting both of our time. read more

I've remodeled a number of homes and know what something should cost. After my long-time plumber retired, I had to find a new one. I called a company that starts with a "R" and they quoted me $65 for the privilege of having them give me a quote. They came out and wanted to charge me over $650 to change a simple siphon valve. I told them to take a hike and called Benton's, now United. They came out, knocked it out quickly and charged a fair price. I've had them back again and will continue to since they do a great job and are reasonable. read more

After reading Benton's reviews, I decided to call for a blocked drain. My phone call was returned right away (I called at 9:30pm). We scheduled an appointment for the following morning. He arrived on time and diagnosed the problem with his camera and location transmitter. Within a short time he removed a huge root ball from the main drain. Things have been flowing well since. It was time for a new kitchen faucet . Ours was leaking in all areas. I called Benton's and they were super helpful. They told me were to go and which faucet to buy! They came out installed it made great recommendations and installed the new one. Not only did they do a great job, but they told us that we needed a matching part for the garbage disposal and that they would get it. Wow! I picked based on reviews here (and because I try to shop in Moorpark and support local businesses), expecting what I thought was a small mix to cost several hundred bucks. Had it been as bad as it could have been, he would have had to cut into wall, cut pipe, etc - a larger and more expensive job than I imagined. But there was a quick fix AND he explained it on the phone WHILE tackling another job that was going awry WITHOUT charging a dime, and I was able to resolve it 100%. .... When the water started leaking from the cold water pipe under the kitchen sink, we called United Plumbing. Jason quickly identified the problem and sealed the leaking pipe. Following Jason's advice, we contacted Pinpoint, and the Pinpoint technician traced and confirmed the location of the leak. Based on that, Jason found and implemented the least invasive solution to the problem - he replaced the leaking pipe and connected the new pipe to the master shower cold water. So we just moved into our home a week ago and we called Benton this morning for a front hose bib / front water faucet issue. He came by at the time he said he would which is always a great start. He assessed our situation and instead of being a typical contractor trying to force a high pressure sale he was polite, professional and offered tips and advice on how to remedy the issue ourselves if we chose to. His customer service was absolutely phenomenal and I was able to remedy this issue based on his input and assistance. If we EVER have a future issue that necessitates legit plumbing work to be done to our house he will for sure be the man that wecall. I had a copper flex line leak connecting to my water heater (45 gallon). My normal plumber's answering service tells me they are booked through the end of the week (4 days). I can only assume they started their plans early for a 4th of July celebration. I tell her this is an emergency. It's starting to flood. No help. I call Benton Plumbing and talk to a real plumber (Gavin). He tells he can come and fix things in a couple of hours. I was at work and he called me when he was forty (40) minutes away from my house. I met him and his partner.....exactly in 40 minutes. I am a very tough person to please. Benton Plumbing had this leak issue resolved in 40 minutes and they gave me a reliable person they knew to contact regarding water damage/mold remediation. Crazy good service.....the kind of service my parents received 50 years ago. And they did not bend me over on the cost. 5 Star my friends. read more
