I "contracted" this company to pick up and ship an auction lot. They responded to my request for a quotation within 24hrs. The quote had a breakdown of the total and the price was competitive. Once I faxed the paperwork, they picked up and shipped the same day. The framed artwork was intelligently packed by someone who understands basic physics and attended to detail. Not a fan: I was here to drop off packages. Incoming packages are all over the floor and no one cares. The person worked there didn't care about a single thing. I won't be surprised if people lost packages or my packages got lost/ stolen/ undelivered. Won't trust this place at all. Super unprofessional. Avoid at all cost. They did a wonderful job in giving me a quote, and fulfilling the requested services, all in a timely and efficient manner. The extremely careful packing was just awesome. United Shipping is great. I have used their services many, many times. They see me a lot and know me by name. Pros: -very friendly and kind staff -if you give them your number, they call you when they receive a package for you -convenient location and hours -at $3.25/package, it is more expensive than other options. However, not having to wait at home for a package and picking it up at my convenience is worth the money. Cons: -accepts cash only, no credit cards I cannot emphasize how great the people are who work here. They've gone out of their way for me. They let me borrow a dolly to move a heavy package, mailed an envelope for me, and once they let me pick up my packages even though I didn't have cash on the condition that I paid them that week. These people are lifesavers. read more

If you need to ensure that you will get a package safely - you have a big package coming in, but a tiny mailbox, or something valuable - have your item in your name shipped here. $3.25 is a small fee to pay to keep your good secure! They also offer all kinds of boxes, envelopes and padding to ship darn near anything. Tip: Make sure when you have your item shipped to the place, that the ship to info contains your name and phone number - I have had a few rare instances where the shipper failed to do this, and United Shipping had no idea who to contact. When this happened, I simply came over, gave them an idea of the size and who is was coming from - mystery always solved. I will admit, the mixed review here probably come as a result of the different people manning the front (my favorite has always been Lisa - I hope that's her name! - she's always friendly and fast), but I always know whatever I send out or pick up will be OK in their hands. If you have something important that you don't want the USPS guys to beat up, give them a try! read more

Great service, far more polite and personalized than bigger more corporate shipping places. Their prices are very reasonable, the person comparing them to the post office isn't clear about her complaints. Everyone knows UPS or Fedex cost more than the post office. We choose them for dependability. Compared to other similar businesses United Shipping's prices are actually slightly lower. For example, another neighborhood shop charges a fee if I come in with my own Fedex Ground label, United does not. read more

UNETHICAL BUSINESS PRACTICES.... 1. Make sure you know the weight of your shipment before going in. While I did have 4 large boxes, I could lift all 4. The gentleman told me that he was going to charge me for 78lbs on each of the 4 large boxes (I'll get to the TRUE weights below). 2. The shipment was going to be around $968 for the boxes. 3. The gentleman was upset that we wanted to use our own shipping labels from our UPS account (so that he wouldn't get his cut from UPS and that we would get a little discount) which I totally understand, but the price was an immediate red flag. When we told him that we would like to use our own shipping labels, his customer service became cold and quite frankly, rude. He originally saw me as $$$$$ with those 4 boxes and then turned just as quickly when he realized he wasn't going to get his huge cut. 4. 10 minutes after leaving the store, I received an email stating that the shipment would be RETURNED to UPS INSTEAD of being shipped out as it should. 5. Went back to the store and the gentleman denied any wrong doing and bragged that he had been there for 30 years. I PICKED UP THE BOXES - as in actually lifted them - and got them to a UPS store. UPS weighed the boxes and not a single box was over 50lbs. Matter of fact, they were 36lbs, 39lbs, 44lbs, and 50lbs and the shipment cost $433 compared to the $968 (without declaring a value) I would have been charged at this location. The UPS store is ONE AVENUE away, so if you want to skip dealing with this PITA, I suggest taking a short walk to the UPS store. read more

And they also don't post mark your packages the day they receive them but on the day they take them to the post office themselves . read more

This is not my first mail-box service, but it is my favorite -- I've been getting my mail there for many years. The mail receiving services are very reliable, the staff is great -- very helpful and pleasant (I've never heard a rude word, and they put up uncomplainingly with my sense of humor), and the wood crates they construct to ship large objects are works of art themselves. United Shipping and Packaging has such a wide variety of services that I find myself coming here almost every week. Whether I need to ship a package, shred documents, or simply make a copy, I'm in and out in a matter of minutes. When I need to ship a package, it is worth my time every time to skip the lines at the post office. They'll tell you up front how much money it will cost to ship from their facility and how much it will cost to send from the post office. I've seen them tell people without hesitation the prices for both. It may be more expensive to ship from their facility, just as it is with UPS and FedEx, but you're paying for the time you save. It's better than UPS or FedEx though, because they're actually friendly! read more

Living in an East Village apartment on 9th street, I've considered myself lucky to be so close (right around the corner) from United Shipping and Packaging. Sending my packages there is easy and convenient, and there's no need to worry about signing or having to go to the UPS warehouse on Houston because you weren't there to receive a package. I've also had great experiences shipping with them as well. They always do a stellar job packing the contents - I've shipped netbooks, laptops, and electric guitars from there with no scratches or injuries whatsoever. Yes, it can be pricey, certainly more expensive than the post office - but obviously it's hard to be competitive with the post office absent government funding, and you pay for the location and convenience. read more

I have been going here for about a year now and my advice to anyone who wants to ship is to not to come during the rush hours. I went there once during that time and now I rather wait till next day because it can get crowded and time consuming. I just don't have time for that. I usually try to be quick. The staff is friendly but there are just some people that now I know to avoid. The prices are good too. I usually ship all my packages for under $5 but they are small. Still worth it tho. read more

This is a wonderful neighborhood spot that offers many much needed and appreciated services. The folks working here are always super friendly and helpful. Living nearby but not having a doorman, we provided United Shipping as the address for our wedding registries. We received hundreds of packages leading up to our wedding, and the folks at United were amazing. Not only do they pack and ship items (as the name implies), but they also sell packing supplies and stamps. You can even rent a box from them and receive packages for a low monthly rate. read more
