My ex had hit me up this summer and was frantic about finding a tailor or just someone to fix her dress for the wedding she was attending. Me being nice I decided, what the heck, and searched for one. I had remembered a long time ago going to a tailor for my suit I needed for a career fair so I did my best to refind it. After a few minutes, I found this place, gave her the contact, and shipped her on her way. Not only did it not take a few days as most places do but it only took an hour or two for it to be done. Very attentive and very accurate with their results. She was able to get the dress tailored to her specifications right on time before her flight to her wedding all at an affordable cost! If you're in a hunch or just need general tailoring that won't charge you an arm and a leg then this place is the place to be! read more

Came to Orchard Express, as a friend had a good experience with getting her jeans hemmed here. They're cash only, and it's definitely a no-frills spot. I wanted to get a dress shortened, as the hem was dragging on the ground. They don't explicitly have a price for hemming dresses, but they do for skirts. I was quoted $25 for tailoring the dress, which didn't feel right as getting a skirt hemmed was $20. I got it down to $20, but it didn't feel great to have to start the service that way. Unfortunately, they took too much fabric off of the dress. I asked them to make it shorter to hit around the ankle, but it goes barely below my knees. When describing this to the guy at the front, it felt like he wasn't paying attention or cared too much. The dress is still wearable but not what I had wanted. The one plus side was that the service was very fast. They got it done in 30 minutes, which was faster than other alteration shops quoting an hour. The hem alteration was also very neat. I had heard such amazing things about this place that I took a jacket over that needed be be taken in. I was so impressed when they said to come back the next day. I was excited about the prospect of having a new tailor in my life that was somewhat affordable. I went back a few days later and could not believe what I saw. The jacket was completely decimated! Crooked uneven seams, bad sewing and a completely ruined jacket. Stunned. Had to throw it away. needless to say I wont be going back. read more

I WOULD NOT RECOMMEND THIS PLACE!! extremely poor/rude service, ruined my dress and did not own up to their actions. needed to take in my strapless bridesmaids dress and hem it shorter. they took it in way too much to the point where it doesn't fit me anymore. they hemmed the bottom at different lengths so the bottom of the dress is uneven and all lopsided. they were very sloppy and very careless with my dress, leaving random sewing machine track marks all over it. i went in to explain what happened and expected a refund on my tailor and payment of my now damaged dress. they said they can give me a refund for the tailor (they asked me how much i paid for it so they just make up arbitrary numbers) or they could try to fix it (i already went to a different tailor and they said they didn't leave enough give to let it out, so it was not fixable). they also said they will not be paying for the damaged dress. i was upset that they wouldn't pay for something they damaged.. and then some guy said i could take them to small claims court if i wanted to. i was like huh?? this is how you treat your customers?? i didn't think i was asking for anything crazy since THEY damaged my dress. overall very unhappy with the service and experience. do not recommend. read more

Great spot for no frills tailoring! I recently bought an outfit for a special occasion and needed the pants tailored so I asked the woman at the shop for suggestions and she said this was her go to spot. She did warn me that tickets tend to get mixed up, so it's best to go earlier in the day and get stuff done same day. A couple weeks later, I finally made my way to Orchard Express and popped in with my pants. Despite it being fairy busy (a few people waiting to either pay and drop off or waiting for pick up), I was helped fairly quickly and got measured up in no time. I originally came in for a simple hem, but last minute decided to go for a tapering too since the quote was only $20 total. I paid upfront and was initially asked if next day pick up worked. Remembering the advice I was given, I asked for same day service and was told to come back in 40 minutes (no extra charge). When I returned, I handed in my ticket and at first was given a pair of someone else's pants. (To be fair, I was warned about their faulty ticketing system!) Ironically, they have signs saying they charge for lost tickets but I guess that doesn't stop them from losing theirs... There was a lot of confusion and shuffling around until the guy who measured me stepped back into the shop - he immediately recognized me and set things straight. I was quoted another 10-15 minutes, so I popped back out for a quick window shopping excursion. Once I returned, they were ready for me. I was a little apprehensive since this was my first time going to a tailor, but the pants turned out great! They're exactly the length and width I had wanted and look even better than I had imagined. Utterly adore this place - have brought in high quality materials from Anthropologie, Farm Rio, Urban Outfitters, etc. and the gents were super communicative and thoughtful and it's a pretty amazing value for the services - affordable and the services I requested were always honored. Most recently I brought in a really nice trench coat from Anthropologie that other places quoted me $100+ for taking in the sides, and Orchard quoted me $45, including taking in sleeves. I requested a simple hem on 100% silk pants. I asked the hem be matched back to the original, which was a baby hem. When i received them back the hem was over an inch, triple the size of the original. The lay of the pants is now ruined and they offered me no solution or apology except for "what is done is done" as the stitching would now always show in the pants due to the silk material. It was a mistake , but I would have appreciated at least some remorse and apology for ruining my pants. read more

Orchard Express Tailor Shop lost my pants. They had me write my name on a card. When I asked if needed a card I was informed NO. Not receiving a receipt gives me no recourse as there is no proof of service. I would advise NO ONE to patronize this business as they not reputable. read more

Needed to get a simple tux alteration that any basic tailor can do. They messed up on the two simple things I needed to get done: Sleeve extension, and pants tapering. Watch out for the guy with the thick glasses, he's insufferable. Extremely unlikeable. The result was a tux jacket sleeve that went to the base of my thumb. I told them it's too long, and he tried to tell me the white shirt was too short. From his definition, the shirt should go to my knuckles so only my fingers are sticking out of the sleeve... It's normal for tailors to fix these mistakes, but he said I need to pay $15 more. I decided it's better to just have the job done ASAP and then leave this review to warn all of you. Stay far away, I'm very disappointed because this place was highly recommended. The price you pay on day 1, will not be the final price. They WILL mess up on purpose, and try to get you to pay more to fix their mistakes. It is cash only because they know people will do chargebacks for their bs. I paid $125 total for basic alterations. It's not even a good deal. Look elsewhere. read more

Wouldn't recommend. Charged $40 to take in the waist of denim jumpsuit. I also wanted material from the butt taken in and he only had put one pin on one leg... I was ok maybe that's how he does it. I went to pick it up and the pin on butt was still there and nothing changed in that area. To be fair, I didn't say anything because they were acting rude to me in the first place. They used to be really good- this was my go to tailor for a while in the city. Only $10 (cash) to hem shirts. However I think ownership changed cause there's a lot of new employees now. They messed up a couple of my shirts recently and refused to take any responsibility. Won't be going back here anymore read more

PLEASE DO NOT MISTAKE THIS PLACE FOR Orchard Tailor Service Corp. THEY ARE DIFFERENT PLACES. The other place charges an arm and leg. After calling several tailors, this is by far the one of the 1) cheapest, 2) fastest tailor in all of NYC and 3) best service tailors in all of NYC. While other tailors are charging $10-$12 for a regular hem (not keeping original hemming) these guys are charging $5. Obviously with jeans you would want to keep the original cuffing which then comes to $15 (pretty average pricing but haven't found anything cheaper. The chinatown place I used to go to was $12 but of course... inflation).... If you want to taper+hem I believe the price goes up to $25. The $5 price for a regular hem is nigh-near unbeatable in NYC. read more

tl;dr Good tailoring for basic hem and waist jobs for a reasonable price. Beware getting screwed into paying more than agreed upon. -- There's the good and there's the bad. This has been my go-to tailor shop -- I've been here several times to get dresses and pants hemmed, and I used to recommend this place highly to people. My friends come here to get their pants and practicewear hemmed as well. It's a great place to go to if you want a quick, well-done hem job for a very affordable price. This weekend I had an experience that soured my perception of this place -- and apparently I'm not alone (according to reviews on Google and Yelp). There's a bald man at the front desk there that speaks to the rest of the staff in Spanish and speaks disrespectfully. I was quoted $15 for getting the waist of my skirt taken in, and then the bald man spoke to the other seemingly honest man in Spanish and raised the price to $20 -- which is a bit more than I expected, but I thought it was okay (the price board quotes $15-20 on similar items), so I confirmed. However, when I come back, the bald man insisted I pay him $30. It was clear he was trying to take advantage of me, from the way he spoke to me condescendingly and kept hiking up the price (despite my attempts to keep things friendly and respectful). And this has happened to other customers on Google and Yelp, so beware. To the people running the shop -- if you're going to hike up the price of the job, do it in an honest way. Update the prices on the board if you must, so that numbers aren't just made up out of thin air (and changed). The job was done well I have to say, thanks to the tailors -- but the integrity of this place (perhaps it's just that one bald guy at the front desk) is disappointing. P.S. Seeing this shop respond to critical reviews on Google with "Liar" should tell you a lot... Disappointing because I used to really like this place. Hope the owners turn it around. read more

I don't know how this shop has 3-4 stars. Maybe because of the cheap prices, but you indeed get what you pay for, cheap work. These guys are uneducated and don't even know the metric system. They measure your hems by eyeballing it, like an 8 year old would. I brought them 3 suits to tailor and repeatedly told the guy that for all the pants I wanted a medium break. Of course I go to pick them up and they're all highwaters. Now they need to adjust them, again, and again, and again, and again, and again, and again.... 2.5 hours later and with no more material left on my pants, they're ruined and look cheap. They also had to redo the waist on 2 pairs of pants because they did a poor sewing job, and the crotch seam was coming undone just while I was trying them on! Then, on my navy blue suit, I hear one guy yell to another guy in Spanish, "is this blue or green", which I didn't think anything of until I got back my navy blue pants with green stitching! Disaster. They had to redo the pants several times too, and they still didn't get it right but I gave up at that point. I did try to talk to one of the guys about all of the mistakes made but he just starred at the ceiling with a blank face. They took money off of the original quoted price but I honestly would've paid triple to have the alterations done right the first time. Lesson learned. If you care about quality tailoring, take your business and money elsewhere. When I got home, I also noticed that the buttons were sewed back crooked on my suit jacket sleeves. Smh. read more

This is THE place to get your pants hemmed. On the spot service! Only $5 a pair! I brought in four pairs of work pants and they were done in 15 minutes. Make sure to bring cash, that's all they accept. I liked watching all the men behind their sewing machines in the back, that's not something you see everyday. Service was friendly and polite. I'd been coming to Orchard Express for over 5 years, and was loyal to them as my sole tailor. I have brought them lots of different types of work -- suits, skirts, dresses, wool coats, jeans, etc. For the most part, I'd say they're pretty good with straightforward jobs. But over time, I sense the work has gotten a little sloppier, and there have been a few items that have turned out unexpectedly awful that I can no longer wear (mostly skirts). The general mood in here has been less friendly and prices have slowly crept up; perhaps it's a symptom of the changing neighborhood and rent increases. All that said, they're one of the cheapest options in the neighborhood. Before I started coming here, I used to go to the Orchard Tailor Services up the block, but I found that their pricing was less competitive and the quality of work was essentially the same (Rene charges even more, and again, the work is comparable). The guys at Orchard Express can turn things around really quickly, and they have a lot of regular customers. A few times, they've mixed up my items and I've gone home with someone else's stuff, so I'd recommend both checking your items before you leave AND trying them on to make sure the work is to your satisfaction. They will grumpily re-do things if the tailoring was off. Keep in mind it's cash only; sometimes you can negotiate a slightly lower price by paying in full upfront, but of course that has risks. I would come here for uncomplicated work like hems, but I think it's time for me to switch tailors, unfortunately. The Lower East Side is still rich with mom-and-pop tailor shops, and I've been scoping out contenders -- stay tuned! read more

Went on Sunday 7/2/23 at 2 pm. Jose was rude, condescending and careless in taking instructions. I requested they reduce the length of trousers to be the same as a sample, and Jose did not want to measure. After the measurement, when asked, he said the reduction would be 1 to 1.5 in, which is strange since the difference was only 1 in. When I asked him to stop being rude, he came close to me, shook his finger in front of my face in an assaulting manner, and used the F word. Then he said he would assault me were it not for my wife being next to me. read more

I was surprised to find this place with reasonably priced alteration work. I am normally used to paying $$$ for good alterations but I am glad I discovered this place. After buying a tux we were looking to get it altered and somehow most of the tailor shops in this neighbourhood are closed on Saturdays but Orchard was open. This shop is run by a bunch of cool dominicans , the guy who took the measurements was very helpful and understood what kind of fitting I wanted. Length and making my pants narrow was just $15 which is very reasonable considering how expensive is alteration now days. My stuff was ready in 30 mins. I will be definitely be back here to get my future alterations done. read more

This is possibly the worst experience I've ever had with a business. I rarely write reviews but this is such a horrible place I have to warn others to never get anything fixed at Orchard Express. For some reason a blazer that was too large got butchered over 4 visits, each time they were incapable of sewing a flat seam- looking at me like I was the unreasonable one and should just accept this obviously ruined garment. It was humiliating- the rudeness was next level. Now I'm stuck with an expensive jacket that has been ruined by their sloppy (understatement) tailoring. The lining has been chopped out and hastily been stitched in with a cheaper navy lining sewn in so badly I'm afraid it's all going to fall apart if I put the jacket on. The stitching of the lining is bunched and unraveling- I've really never seen such a mess. It's going to cost me over $200 to have the jacket repaired now. As a native New Yorker the gentrification of the LES used to irritate me but I hope this place goes out of business ASAP. They shouldn't be touching anybody's clothing! read more

I go in now, and a new man seems to be running the show, and charged me $80. Claims it is due to "inflation". Their prices on the wall need updating then. Messed up repeatedly on a simple job: dress pants tapering. I even brought them a fitted pair for exact measurements. They did careless measuring, so ended up making the calf and above-the-knee area too tight. And the two legs were different widths!! They had to redo the pants, so I had to come back to this location (I don't live nearby). When I came to pick up, they spent 15 minutes just looking for my pants. After trying them on, they were still too tight above the knee (despite the fact that they marked that part with an X last time), and I had to sit and wait for them to fix the problem. On top of it all, they were very rude. I'm not expecting black tie service, but they were completely unapologetic for messing up again and again, and for making me waste so much time. Great place to get simple work done. I needed a few shirts taken in and was surprised to see that they don't charge extra to slim the sleeves as well. Also needed a pair of pants taken in on the waist. I've shed a few pounds so the pants were probably 3-4 sizes too big. They did a tremendous job taking it in for a very reasonable price. Came here to get my dress shortened for an inch. Waited for about 5 mins to get measured, and then they told me it'd be $25 to do the hem for a one layer maxi dress (which is still cheaper than most places at $40). After the measurement, they told me to come back in an hour to pick it up. I thought I heard it wrong, because the cleaners near my apt quoted me for 2-3 days. I am very happy that they were able to provide such a quick turnaround time for a simple job. The dress also came back perfect! read more

This tailor shop is like a hole in the wall on Orchard Street. From the outside, it looks like a brick o brack store (if it didn't have a sign) until you enter thru the doors towards the back. I needed two pairs of inexpensive khakis to be tapered, shortened and helmed. The total cost was $14 and the alterations were completed in an hour. The work was acceptable for the price of $7 for each pants with no complaints. I would recommend this shop to other yelpers but I would suggest to think twice before bringing expensive clothing to an "express" tailor shop. read more

I'm a clothes horse and I used to go to this place on such a regular basis that some of the tailors and I actually knew each other on a first name basis. They were always pleasant and I was always satisfied with the workmanship and the prices. And I always made sure to tip whoever did the actual tailoring. However, there was one balding guy with missing teeth at the front desk who rubbed me the wrong way. Whenever he was there, he'd say something in Spanish to the fitting guy and the price they normally charged me doubled. Maybe he thought I had money because I'm a white guy, I don't know, but that's no excuse and whenever he wasn't around, the other tailors were always cool and reverted back to their lower prices. It got so I used to peer inside to see if the balding guy was there and then finally stopped going altogether. I don't mind paying a few bucks more (it won't make a difference in my life), and even when the bald guy was there the fees were reasonable compared to other tailors, but I don't like being screwed, either, so now I go elsewhere. Highly recommend for a quick and inexpensive jeans hem job. Pricing is absolutely unbeatable at $5 a pair, done in 15-30 min usually while you wait. Really good prices especially since some places I called around to ask quoted me at $35 a pair for the simple hem job! There's a curtained area to try on pairs and they can mark it accordingly and such. It's not the most meticulous hem job, sometimes a bit of loose thread and all, but it's good enough. That being said I probably wouldn't bring your fine dress pants and expensive items here since more care and a very high quality job would be desirable in those cases. Cash only. read more

Bought a new blazer on line in a flash sale. Paid $59, regular Price $450, normal sale price $249. Blazer fit pretty good upon arrival and I wore it the next day. While on the train, I noticed my cellphone sliding around in my jacket's front right pocket. I put my hand in there and noticed that there was a 4 inch gap at the seam of the pocket. Got to my job in the Financial District area and went to New Street to see if I could get it sewn. I've been going to this place for years for shoe repairs and shines and they have been reasonably priced and they do a solid job. I told the owner that I needed the blazer for a presentation by 11AM and he said no problem. The tailor came up took my coat and quoted me a price of $50. I was like "What"? After I explained what I paid for the jacket he agreed to drop the price to $40. I couldn't contain myself and started laughing and told him I could get it done for $10. Long story short, I got my jacket back and left. The owner got the feeling he lost a customer and he did(his work wasn't special or super cheap anyway). Later that day I'm on the Lower Eastside telling this story and some woman who I didn't know told about this place. Once my presentation was over I went here with a friend who's from the area. She began playing mom and told the guy what I needed fixed and how much was he going to charge. Turns out it was $5. He did the job while I waited and more importantly he did it right. I'm heading over there this week with two pairs of pants that need to have the waist, seat and legs taken in. I'll update this review based on this more complicated tailoring. read more
