It is very "small town"…read more I heard that this tiny post office is here because there are two major court houses two blocks away (24th Judicial District Court and 5th Circuit Court of Appeal). It is not listed in most places, hard to find even on Google. It is the smallest PO I've ever been in, there is only one little counter and parking is just a small strip on the left side of the street. The right side is pay-to-park. Usually it's not bad though. *Note: the address is 3rd St. but the entrance is on Huey P Long Ave. because it is on a corner. The clerks are always very nice and helpful, one time I had a package, the window gate/cage was down and I knocked on the door and the lady came out and took my package. It made my day!!!!! Hello. I was trying…read moreto do a money order today. It was 5 money orders for a large amount of money. The old lady (African American lady with blonde hair) at the register today gave me the wrong form. An 8105-B instead of an 8105-A. When I asked her about it she said that she was too busy and that she must have misplaced the form. I presented her the envelope of money after filling out the form. She was unable to use the computer properly and had to redo the money order multiple times. Then when she finally got the amount in she had me pay with card, after I told her I wanted to pay the fee with my card. She paid the entire total, not the fee, on my card. When I confronted her about it, she and another customer ganged up on me and told me that I was in the wrong and did not verbalize that I wanted to pay the order with cash. I showed you an envelope of cash, and requested to pay the fee. I'm not sure how much clearer I could have been. When I asked for a way to fix it, she said she did not know, and reiterated it was my fault. I then told her that I would be taking my business to the Walmart down the street. The workers there did the entire money order in 5 minutes. What poor customer service.

In an effort to prevent smuggling, the 1808 federal law banning slave imports from overseas mandated that captains of domestic coastal slavers create a manifest listing the name, sex, age, height, and skin color of every enslaved person they carried, along with the shippers' names and places of residence. One copy of the manifest had to be deposited with the collector of the port of departure, who checked it for accuracy and certified that the captain and the shippers swore that every person listed was legally enslaved and had not come into the country after January 1, 1808. A second copy got delivered to the customs official at the port of arrival, who checked it again before permitting the enslaved to be unloaded. At the Customs House in Alexandria, deputy collector C. T. Chapman had signed off on the manifest of the United States. In New Orleans, customs inspector L. B. The United States Customs house was formerly known as the Old Post Office and Customs House and…read morebecame a National Historic Landmark in 1974. Construction began in 1848 and it wasn't completed until 1881 due to multiple redesigns and more importantly the outbreak of the American Civil War. It is one of the oldest federal buildings in the Southern United States. The building sits on an entire city block, bounded by Canal, North Peters, Iberville and Decatur. The builing is actually constructed of brick that is sheathed in granite. The floor plan of the Customs House is arranged around a Greek Revival room known as Marble Hall. This room features Corinthian colums that are adorned with the heads of gods and goddesses. It is simply a marvel to see, and if you're lucky enough to get a tour of the inside, you'll see one of the finest architectural treasures the City of New Orleans has to offer. Some of the ceilings here have to be at least 20-25 feet high.
