The attitude of the person (short Asian woman) who waited on me today. Never in my 76 years on this earth have I encountered this type of treatment at a post office. I went in with a box containing a pair of boots I ordered from a vendor through Amazon. I had printed out the label I received from the vendor and the paper from Amazon reflecting the return approval statement and bar code. I asked the person behind the counter what I needed to do. She admonished me for not being prepared as if I were a child. I Told her that I wasn't sure what I needed to do, and if she told me what I needed to do, I would do it. All the while, she was preparing the box to be mailed. She went on to say that she didn't believe I didn't know what to do because everyone knows how to mail packages. I assured her I would not lie to her. By this time, she finished preparing the package and handed me a receipt. I told her I was sorry that she was so angry. She said too much. She could have told me what to do and had me step to the side so I would not hold up the line. The worse thing was how she spoke to me. She was rude, condescending and seemed intent on trying to humiliate and embarrass me. Instead, she just made a fool of herself. Worse, her behavior made public servants look bad. Her statement opining on what everyone knew was surprising. How would she know what everyone knows. Her conduct as a public servant was uncalled for and most inappropriate. I know it is a tough time for federal government workers, but it is not the public's fault. I noticed several similar comments on yelp about the rude behavior of employees at this post office. Perhaps the employees need sensitivity or anger management training. read more

This place has ALWAYS been known to have people with bad attitudes. It's been the same employees working there for 50 years so they're all bitter and rude. If you can't deal with customers then don't work in customer service. Point blank. read more

This little post office is conveniently located in the heart of old town Takoma Park. Clean and well stocked with mailing/shipping supplies, I usually find this post office to be a treat to visit. The employees here are noticeably less "postal" than most and will smile and chit chat with you. With the exception of tax day, the longest line I've ever waited in was three people long. In and out....I love this location. Though quaint and charming, they have plenty of PO boxes for rent and seem to be a full-service location. Also, i can usually get a metered spot right on the street in front, but just in case you can't, park in the free parking lot behind...this post office has both a front and rear entrance. This visit is really a negative star but I am factoring previous visits where I rushed in and out with barely a wait. Today I want to scream. There were 18 customers in line. The room was hot. I am a people person but not when kids are bumping into me, At least the employees were good natured. Late afternoon isn't the time to visit! read more

US Post Office - Post Offices Near Me - Takoma Park, Maryland

The staff are wonderful in this post office I have been going there for over eighteen years. However, no one answers the phone, ever, and I am housebound right now and cannot go there and ask in person. So, here is my huge compaint and I will be taking it rather further than this post office! Our mail and packages keep not appearing because they are being left on other People's doorsteps. Last night my computer said a package, a book, I had been waiting for, had been put on or near our porch at 6:55pm. My husband rushed out to get it within seconds of that message and the time stated but as so often happens, nothing was there! He searched everywhere, and I said did you see or hear the postal van driving away, no he said, which would have been impossible considering he only walked from the kitchen to the front door as the package was being left on or near our front porch according to the carrier. Amazon just gives me a refund for these constant non deliveries which I think is disgusting as as someone else keeps getting my books and anything else I order, the post office changes nothing and carries on in its dreadfully slipshod way, and Amazon just says reorder and we'll pay for it! Of course if my letter mail and orders from other companies just never arrive even though the USPS say they have, I just have to swollow the loss! This is happening far too frequently and it's now getting worse as now some postal workers just toss our mail and packages over the fence, they can't even be bothered to open the gate walk up the path and put it in our actual mail box, or at least on the porch! So, I'm done with the USPS and I am now shouting out their dreadful business practices to the entire nation and around the world on my five public media sites. I have always gone to many post offices were this is a drop off box or a window where I can drop off my packages. This was my first time I encountered this experience! I walk in the Takoma park MD office as usual and go up to the window with a new face a African American elder woman by the name foolish. She didn't greet me just said hold on you can just drop off packages without speaking to me rudely!! Which I was surprised I been going there for about 5 months and never had this issue. There was a line and she made everyone wait and people were getting frustrated. So I asked her why and she said I can just drop packages off without knowing if there is liquid or something else in it and I told her your holding up the line I never had to be questioned at any location I have gone too unless I needed a receipt. She was very disrespectful and rude by making me wait and embarrassing me in front of others and also by making the rest of the people wait as well. If this place wasn't walking distance to me I would have stopped going back. Also I would love to leave a suggestion there is a Asian short lady that works there, she works very hard and she should be the supervisor not Foolish!!! read more

If it wasn't for Ms.Lee this location is the worst. She usually is the only clerk working consistently and always professional. She has a strong work ethic and is dedicated. I really don't understand why this location has gone down . Ms. Lee should be in charge AND definitely a raise. read more

Shipped priority package to here. And package was out for delivery yesterday. Today it is lost. Never arrived. This is the 2nd time this month this has happened. They won't answer the phone either so there's no accountability at all. Between Macon, Ga usps and Takoma, Md Priority mail is no longer safe with this lack of accountability. The words I would prefer to use to describe this place will most likely not get posted. I have more problems with their delivery service than in store transactions. Get this, I was expecting two packages to be delivered. Both with tracking numbers but one was transferred from Surepost. Thanks to USPS, they confused the packages and delivered the Surepost package but entered in the system that the USPS package was delivered. SMH. This is not the first time they f'd up. Recently, package that was supposed to take a day or two ended up taking well over 7 days to arrive. When I checked the tracking number, the package had traveled all over Maryland before arriving to its destination. WTF! We get mail... from a couple of streets over or many times we get our neighbors mail. Our house number is quite large and you can't miss it but still, we get other people's mail quite often. Because it offers the simple little things that make like easy: -Fast Service -Street Parking -Private Lot Parking -Easy to find mail drops -Attendant near the door to direct you to speedy service If I have to go to the post office, it's definitely this one. I would rate one-star based on my experience today, but taking my mediocre previous experiences, I'll give it two. I parked out front and needed to get some change for the meter as I realized I had none, so I ran in and asked for change - no one was inside, no lines, cashier was doing nothing - and asked for change for a $5. She looked at me blankly and then said I needed to go to the bank, and that when she needs money, she has to go to the bank. I explained that I was just asking for a quarter for the meter, and that I was there to mail something, so she finally gave me the change after some serious attitude. Even if my change hadn't been for parking, as a paying customer I would think giving me change wouldn't be an issue.. Will look to go to different locations in the future, unfortunately. read more

I reported a problem of getting my neighbor's mail it is happened at least three times within the last 2 months. I'm also concerned because there's mail we are expecting from Rockville it's been 5 days and we have not received it yet. Lately the mail has been slow I reported it to the carrier today he said they have people in training. However delivering it to the wrong address when your street address is clear is no excuse for being in training. I hope that this problem is resolved by mail is very important and normally the service is excellent in Takoma Park Maryland. Regarding mail delivery, I've lived in the neighborhood for over 10 years and I CONSTANTLY get mail meant for other addresses (I'm talking completely different streets) as well as mail for people who haven't lived at my address in over a decade. It doesn't matter how many times I call to complain, it still happens on a weekly basis. And it seems that no matter who is delivering mail, they can't quite figure out that they should shut the door to the mailbox once they've delivered mail. They just leave it open, allowing my mail to be exposed. Thanks. As for the in store location, there is one older, grumpy woman that works there that seems she should have retired a long time ago. As perchance it happened, I had several outgoing things over the course of several weeks and can thus give a time study report, I've seen it with my own eyes. The glaring errors are---- if a patron is not ready with his or her outgoing, don't allow that person to ADDRESS, and TAPE when there are ten people in line. Get out of the line by stepping to the left and proceed with your tasks, when you're finished, step back. Better you should have done all that before you left the house. As I approached the door, I saw an employee go to empty the two collection boxes outside. I got in line and stood for seven minutes......l looked outside and he was still emptying the boxes. Now maybe there was a mother cat who gave birth in the box and he had to be gentle...but jeez....it does not take that long to empty two collection boxes. The thing that USPS misses and has always missed....some people are not polite enough, experienced enough, fast enough, interested enough to be window clerks. Knowing the classes of mail and street addresses and zip codes is great, but if one is not nimble enough to serve a certain number of people over the course of an hour, that window clerk should get extra training or offered another kind of work. These problems go on day after day after day after day---enough. Over the days I had observed, there were 6 times when there was only one clerk, yet there are four stations. You can hear people in the back, why aren't they at the window? Two clerks should be stationed at any given time for their own safety, much less, to keep the line moving. There is no supervision and there is no incentive. Four years ago, this post office was staffed with the perkiest clerks imaginable, pleasant and smiling, informed and interested--across the board, they were all like that. It had been like a country post office where they knew your name. Attitude keeps the line moving, and it surely cuts both ways, patrons and employees. Patrons can get surly when they are dead tired, about to get a parking ticket, and can hear people in the back, when there is only one window clerk doing the work. Get more than one window clerk out at a time, no excuse for anything otherwise, don't let a window clerk empty collection mailboxes. A blind guy with broken arms in casts could move faster than that window clerk. Have a mailhandler or letter carrier pull the box and let the window clerk be a window clerk. read more

For the area, this location exceeds expectations. It's clean, roomy, lots of metered parking, nice little Takoma Park metro shopping plaza/mall. Good looking place. Service was friendly but not very helpful. I was shipping a baby-gear gift to someone so the box was bulky, not that heavy though, so apparently out of their shipping dimension limit. Seriously! Consistently professional and courteous. Lines usually move quickly but that can depend. Can't give 5 stars though because there have been occasions of inefficiency, such as workers standing around while there is a line to the door. Overall good, could be a bit better. read more

Be prepared to spend at least an hour waiting in line at this office. It's very disorganized with boxes and parcels everywhere (would not be surprised if many parcels get lost there) and staff is not in a hurry to serve you. It took them almost one hour to find a parcel that one customer came to pick up. The other two employees pretended to be busy with nothing while another employee was looking for the parcel so the line stood still (waiting for service) for an hour. I'm so annoyed with this post office. Once again my package did not arrive. I stayed home all day waiting. The web site said " out for delivery" They claimed to have attempted a delivery at 11am...LIES!!! They claimed no secured location and notice was left....WHERE??? But oh wait...I have a Pacel box!!! No one came to my door and no notice was left in my mail box. But oh wait the mail person did show up with mail around 5pm. I guess they took time off to watch the eclipse. read more

This location is understaffed and it shows in the service that you receive. Each time I go into this location there is a line almost out the door. There is also, in my experience, only ever one staff member working at the counter. I waited in like for an hour to mail a package, and couldn't leave because I had already sealed it with their stationary. The employees are in no hurry to move the line along. This could be a result of decreased motivation due to being constantly understaffed. read more
