Natalie at this USPS branch has the absolute worst attitude. I have literally walked in, saw she was the only person working, and left to go to another location. I now go out of my way to a downtown location just to avoid dealing with her rude attitude, consistent unprofessionalism, and evident lack of job proficiency. She is the only postal worker that has ever hassled me consistently and seems to prefer to follow her own rules and policies, as opposed to the consistent USPS regulations. Do yourself a favor. Still grossly understaffed, and the now one clerk left behind the counter, pre-holiday season is apparently unable to complete any transaction for customers in under five minutes per person seriously!! If you bring it up, as other reviewers have stated you are the wild, lunatic jerk for complaining. The manager here told me that when their self service machine breaks, he has to personally repair it. And apparently no one will work here, so that's why they're understaffed. I have been a customer for three years and even though I've had about five different issues in getting my overnight priority FedEx packages in a timely manner, they do their best with friendly service especially when the main manager is in his name is Bill S., the taller medium build, Caucasian gentleman. I received a package that clearly was opened. It had three very clear cuts on three edges of a box. After many phone calls it is clear to me that there is no oversight, protocols not being followed is not a problem, and they do not look into mail tampering. I filed an online complaint about the manager's mishandling and they sent the complaint back to him. When I spoke with someone at Consumer Affairs office they told me that an open package should have gone back and been resealed. This had not happened and when I inquired about this with the Post Office manager he told me that there wasn't necessary a procedure. The person at Consumer Affairs said that maybe I was too persistent so he didn't tell me as though it was my fault. Also, she told me that the pictures showed something different than reality. I had sent them those photos. Not sure how those photos could indicate an accident- clearly the box was cut open. It seems like a lot of covering up. There is no assurance that packages or mail are safe. Approximately a year ago I had several pieces of mail stolen from this same post office. I made many phone calls with no response. About six months later I received a letter from the "mail police" regarding a break in at the Post Office. Before that time I could not get any information. Very concerning. Consistently the worst post office on the planet. There is one friendly helpful clerk there, the rest of the staff wish you would die. One Christmas one of the clerks came out of the back room to chew us out for not mailing early. Lines are always endless and the windows barely staffed. No one answers the regular phone, the passport number is inactive, no voicemail set up and so it just disconnects the call, if you go in they tell you you need to make an appointment first. How, PLEASE OH GOD TELL ME HOW TO MAKE AN APPOINTMENT FIRST?!!! I would love to do this, but they purposely do not want you to make a passport appointment so don't try, it's impossible. read more

DO NOT COME TO THIS POST OFFICE WHEN YOU ARE HUNGRY!!! Every time I came to this post office always during my lunch time and before I actually consume anything. It's always 20-25 minutes wait, even just to purchase stamps for postcards (since their automated mailing machine doesn't sell stamps for postcards). I always ended up feeling hungrier, grouchier, crabbier, and hangover. Yes, hangover. I always ended up with a bad headache and dizzy. This is how bad the wait at this post office. Unfortunately, the woman who helped me with my packages was in a bad mood or something but she made a bad impression of the place. I had to mail a box and two envelope packages. I only had $15.00 for shipping. So, of course I was going to need the cheapest shipment method. This is how it went down. "Hi I need to ship these." "Do you want first class, or Express?" "I just want the cheapest way, the normal way." "Well that is Express." "Okay how much is Express?" "The box would be $24.34 for Express." "No. I want the cheapest, the normal method." "THE NORMAL METHOD IS EXPRESS. DON"T SAY NORMAL, WHEN YOU SAY NORMAL, THAT MEANS EXPRESS." I must have driven by this post office a gazillion times and never even noticed it was there. But thanks to my trusty Yelp app for my SteveJobzPhone I found this USPO when I needed to ship a return package to Amazon. I found the facility to be small but the staff friendly and the line short. And that's what matters, right? Out in EastPDX the USPO locations always seem to have long lines, regardless of the time of day. And here I was at 3:45 pm with only one person waiting in front of me. This branch of the US Postal Service offers your standard services including post, stamps, shipping, US Passport and the like. There is easy parking in the lot or on the street. Sure this service isn't modern. Or really convenient (in the age of emails and insta-everything) but I still do appreciate a smile when I roll in, and these ladies helped me out just fine. read more

There are no humans available to assist, if you provide a tracking #, the system will ignore you. Saying "help" is useless. OMG in a way I should thank this postal branch for teaching me an important business lesson: Always use UPS or FedEx. Always. I ordered 300 mugs for prospective clients. I then purchased attractive packaging materials to box the mugs - rather than go with the standard ugly box. I then spend days wrapping the mugs and attractive packaging in fadeless black paper and then labeling those boxes with a gold pen. They looked amazing. Even with help it took forever. And then I went to the post office where they slapped a bunch of disgusting looking white and pink labels all over the box - ostensibly for "fragile" and "parcel post" stamps though often they slapped more ugly labels on there than they made stamps. Besides it isn't like anyone paid attention to the fragile sticker. From what I understand most of the mugs arrived completely shattered at their destinations. Nice. I sent one batch of the mugs from the airport USPS where the woman cheerfully informed me that it would be better for me to send them prioprity post since parcel post would mean that my one pound mugs would be shipped in a carton - perhaps under 70-80 pound packages - and would probably arrive like a parcel of little fairy dust at their final destination. WHY? WHY? WHY? Did no one explain this to me before wasting what amounted to over $1000 of effort, wrapping, and postage? Because most of the people at this and many other USPS branches appear to be on permanent mental holiday, are not customer service focused, and rather than thinking about why people are using this service and aiming to do a better job at delivering that are pretty much just punching a clock. Don't waste your time or your money. I am no captain of industry style free market capitalist but honestly a business where they feel they need your money to survive will probably do a much better job. read more

Local phone number is useless. No one answers. Going in is useless, everyone gives you the run around and can never find anything, they just disappear in the back to hide and send another person up to start all over again. Our letter carrier/post office has lost keys to our apt. building, leaving us without mail or a notice for more than a week. Carrier regularly misses delivering packages & fails to update status so tracking information isn't correct. For example, I had two packages from the same sender arriving on the same day. Both were out for delivery, same day. One package arrived, one did not. Tracking for both says they were at the post office at 8am and out for delivery shortly after. Both say they are delayed and will now be delivered sometime in the next 6 days. 6 days!? One was delivered, the other is seemingly somewhere floating around my same zip code, in a truck or at a facility but I can't find out because there is no one to contact. Automated 800# is useless, you can not speak with a human and hold time is always "over an hour." You can't even email a question or complaint, that part of the site is always down. USPS isn't great in general but, I've lived in several neighborhoods, cities and states and have never had issues with my mail until moving to Buckman and having this carrier and this post office. . read more

I recently moved to Portland, during my move I got a couple of orders on my Etsy shop and I knew I'd have to stop by a postal office ASAP. I came here in a hurry after driving about 1000 miles and was super tired, totally not expecting a ridiculous long line. I never thought i'd be so crowded around 2PM. I waited for about 30 minutes, thought about leaving several times. When it was finally my turn I could barley hear the older asian guy who helped me out, he voice was so quite I thought he was joking. He wasn't. He was not friendly at all, seemed like he had quite a bad attitude. Of course he didn't reply when I said "thank you, have a wonderful day". Not a surprise. Lots of mail has mysteriously "disappeared/been delivered" out of this office. The lines are always long due to understaffing. The inside is practically falling apart. The one good thing that could be said about this place is the friendly service. Though I suppose I'd be friendly to my clientele as well if I was constantly losing or stealing their stuff. This office is a great example of why people pay to mail now with FedEx, UPS and other companies. The USPS is a bunch of crooked, slackers. It would not surprise me to learn that mail deliverers were just taking smoke breaks all day. About the only thing worth keeping around with this branch is the cool old school uniforms. read more

No wait/line at 11am Friday!!! Fast and easy parking! This looks like one of the original post offices of Portland; older building; high ceilings. Feels spacious. Clerk was friendly and knowledgable. I stepped to the side to fill out additional info and right back in line. My two year old daughter entertained herself with the greeting card display. Places like this should have a basket of toys for kids but these cards did the job! And clerk didn't mind her pulling them out of the display. read more

This is a one star facility because of the unsmiling, unfriendly window clerk. Most offices have a token Ice Queen that you hope to avoid, and this location is no exception. Yes, the lines can get atrociously long but I don't mind if the staff were more courteous. I suppose some people believe working at the post office warrants a bad attitude. On the other hand, the gentlemen who works the back dock is extremely down to earth and warm. 5 Stars for the back loading dock! The back dock experience pulls up the rating by one star. Lucky for me I rarely have to go inside, and more often drop off my packages to the man in the back dock. Even luckier for me, I have postal pick up almost every day which for the most part is easy and convenience (except the occasional no-show). For those who want to avoid this or other post offices and the negativity that clings on to you after entering, I recommend you become familiar with the USPS website where you can print from the comfort of your own home, and schedule pickup, hoping they will arrive. read more

These guys really really suck! They are so me of the slowest post offices in Portland. Seriously, people should be fired and they should start over with all new employees. They just redid the parking lot so there are half as many spots as there used to be and now you can't park in the back any more. Trust me avoid this post office or you will get screwed! Then he printed out the postage and stamped all my packages 'first class.' What the hell? It's not like it's a restaurant that can run out of strawberry lemonade and offer chocolate milk instead. It's a post office. I'm not sure exactly how hard it is to press 'media mail' instead of 'first class' on the touch screen and use the 'media mail' stamp instead of the 'first class' stamp and put the packages in the 'media mail' bin instead of the 'first class' bin, but them's the breaks when you're working in customer service. Reading other reviews I can only assume one of two things has happened: 1. The other reviewers have never been inside a U.S. post office before, or 2. There is a conspiracy going on to convince Yelp readers that this post office facility sucks, in order to keep it nice and empty for those "in the know." Because seriously? This post office is perfectly fine! You want long lines? Go to the Hollywood post office at 40 something and Sandy -- there the lines are long and the space is so small that if you're twelfth in line, you're practically in the parking lot! The lines at this post office are not long by the standards of other post offices I've been to. The clerks aren't going to win any awards for personality, but they're civil and well informed (a worker at the aforementioned Hollywood p.o. -- cursed be its name -- claimed that I couldn't send a package via International small packet flat rate, which was TOTALLY WRONG). The atmosphere is grim and cheerless, but at least there's enough space to keep you out of the rain, and I've never not found parking in the lot. This is the worst post office I've ever had the displeasure of patronizing on a regular basis in my life. The clerks range from indifferent at best to hostile at worst, including one with a touch of the OCD -- you know which one I mean if you've been here enough -- and there are NEVER more than two windows open, even at 4:30pm on a Friday. The service is practically comatose. It's understaffed and what staff there is has a bad attitude, and the hours are terribly inconvenient. This is a shining example of why the United States Postal Service is losing billions of dollars a year. read more
