I finally called the customer service line because my mailman said they could put a trace on the package. The hardest part was due to my eyes. I had to enter the tracking number. I did get a wonderful employee named Dora. My package is being returned to me. She doesn't know why but the return process started (coincidentally) July 2nd. She signed me up for text messages so I can get texts regarding my return. It will be very convenient. She also offered to connect me so I could order more stamps when I said I need more. I rather go to the website and select what I like. I find that is a very convenient service too. I guess I'm just glad my mission for today is accomplished! I'm still a fan of USPS since childhood.

The staff I have encountered clearly display that their purpose is simply to collect a check, nothing more. During my visit today, I waited to use the self-service machine to ship pre-labeled packages. A customer was having difficulty operating the machine, yet the two employees behind the counter were engaged in personal conversation and did not offer assistance. There were no other customers in the post office besides myself and the woman using the machine. After observing this for a while, I approached the male employee and asked if he could help by taking my packages. He informed me that I needed to wait for the other customer to finish and use self service, which I did. Meanwhile, I watched as he stood doing absolutely no work for the duration of the time. The flip side is that the friendly & want to assist postal workers behind the counter makes the wait worthwhile. There was a three person staff today with one person floating around who had no quarrels answering questions while people waited in line. The interior was pretty much in order, supplies fully in stocked everywhere with the historic accents through out. I was able to ask a question while waiting in line, to see if there was a need to purchase tracking for a self postage package I put together. I was told no yet the packaged needed to be scanned to track. I got to the counter, smiles for everyone, got my package scanned & was good to go. A positive outcome as we know the visit to the PO are not always a happy go luck excursion. I'm glad I strolled down Penn Ave to one of the national historic sites in the Federal Triangle area to get my postal needs taking care & with good customer service.

I like to support USPS over private companies, however they are not making it an enjoyable experience to use them. From a service prospective, 2 weeks before Christmas they only have 1 person working. She unfortunately can only do what she can. However, she clearly isn't even trained well enough to know where supplies are, as the label machine ran out of paper and she had to call someone to let her know where more was. Lastly, if they can't afford to pay more employees they should install a stamp machine here so you don't have to wait in line to buy stamps.
