Quick job of filing, barely a massage and no polish. She suggested that since I was not using nail polish she buff the nails for some shine, I agreed. I was there for merely 20 minutes and the cost was $48. When I questioned this, she said a buff was extra. I suggested it was in lieu of polish which is much more time consuming. At the same time a lady came in and simply asked for a file, did not even sit down, just had nail file over her nails and she was charged 10 for 10 seconds. People are starting to object to escalated prices for less service. And I agree I am not going to pay more and receive less, it is not the correct way to conduct business.

The night prior, they called and asked if I'd be willing to go to the Dupont Circle location instead so that the technician could fit in more appointments. It was annoying, but not a huge deal. I was getting lash removal & a new set of classic/hybrid lashes. I've been getting eyelash extensions for 13 years and this is by far the worst experience I've ever had. They were thin, whispy, pre-made fans that were poorly glued onto only some of my lashes. They started falling off almost immediately, and there were visible white clumps of glue that a friend pointed out because she thought I had crumbs on my eyes. One week later when I went to another eyelash studio, they couldn't even tell I had any extensions on until they put me under the lights. I would've been better off just curling my own lashes & using mascara because mine are thicker & longer than whatever they used. I've never had such poor quality.

this place is very dependent on the threader(is that what they are called?) i like this location…read morebecause of its proximity and plenty of free parking nearby, some of the threaders(yeah im just gonna keep using that term) are good, but some are exquisitely bad. the one today was in the latter category. i have full, thick brows and they look good even when they are NOT threaded(hey i tried to be humble, but ...it...didnt..work..). on occasion, i will get them threaded for a more refined look. the threader today did not do that. one of my brows got hair removed excessively and looked uneven by comparison and there were no sharp lines. i did point this out to the threader(who willl remain nameless) who insisted everything was good. she also applied lotion to my brows without asking me first, which is made my face all itchy and i washed it off immediately. i usually get an astringent like witch hazel, which P.E. has too but the threader usually will ask me first what I want. gee, gosh damn , is that so hard? anyway, once a threader messes up, i do NOT want them to fix it, bc that usually makes it worse...way worse. so i will have to get creative with my pencil and mascara brush. and honestly, im very irritated. im putting my pic from today and one from another salon where i got my brows done before.picture is worth a thousand brows after all. btw, i PREFER the P.E. in tysons corner mall, i have NEVER had any issues there.

I use to get them done every 8 weeks, but now that my lashes are longer I noticed they can last up to 10-12 weeks. I also noticed my lashes got so much longer after I was doing these lifts for a year. Semra is amazing. She's always gentle with my lashes and takes amazing care to make sure they look good. I always leave satisfied with my lashes. My eyes are usually very sensitive as well. When I use to get regular lash lifts, my eyes would get irritated. But with the yumi lash lifts, my eyes aren't irritated. I think the chemicals are more gentle than regular lash lifts. Also I love the natural look of these lashes. They're so curly and long and just naturally pretty. I also got my brows done twice here. I usually don't get my brows done because I don't really care about my brows as much as I do my lashes lol, but Semra made my brows look really nice as well. I was impressed by how different I look with them shaped better. I will think about doing my brows more often here

TL;DR (long version in the photos)--I never write reviews of businesses, let alone small businesses…read morebut I am hoping that doing this will save someone else what I went through. I visited Semra's studio twice and she gave me a severe allergic reaction (Google PPD allergic reaction and HD Brows and BrowSculpt) that left me with severe hives on my face and extreme swelling of the eyes/ face for which I had to see three doctors and had to use six separate medications. It took me over a month to fully recover (I visited her salon Sept. 17, and am only now fully recovered as of late Oct.). After I told her about it, the only apology she gave me was "sorry to hear about it :(" I asked her for a refund and she refused, not even refunding me the tip or the cost of the service that caused the allergic reaction. On top of that, when I sent her the pictures, her reaction most generously could be understood as ignorance about a very common allergy that occurs due to the chemicals she uses in the line of work she's been in for ~30 years and at worst as accusing me of lying. She refused to take any accountability even when her actions seriously harmed a customer. I'll let you draw whatever conclusions you believe appropriate from my experience.

This salon is a gem. I am picky about my hair, and was in the habit of frequenting Sasson and other high-dollar places. The prices at Universal Hair Salon are fair without being outlandish, and in my experience, the quality of the cuts, color and styling are the same as at those other pricier places. The stylists are friendly, professional and creative. I can get in the chair and give some vague instructions about what I want, and like magic Lorena and Mila bring the vision to life. I bring my girls here, too, and they always love the pampering they get. My eleven-year-old requested "rainbow hair" for her birthday, again with vague instructions (like her mama). Lorena gave her the cutest, completely 11-year-old girl appropriate cut and color that both friends and strangers complement her on every single day. You are in excellent hands at this wonderful Adams Morgan salon! read more

I work late, and this salon is open a bit later than most, so that right off the bat is a huge plus for me. I had a wonderful woman named Lorena cut my hair. She was wonderfully friendly the SECOND I walked through the door. She had a smile on her face and was eager to get to know me as a new client. When it came time for the cut, she was very attentive to how I wanted my hair cut (I have curly hair and lots of layers). She did a great job with the cut, very detail oriented and she wasn't rushed at all (even though it was the end of the night and she was about to close up shop). She styled my hair beautifully, and even let me in on future deals for colors and cuts. I am thoroughly impressed by this salon. It was a great experience and I cannot wait to go back! Also the prices aren't bad either $40 for a hair cut compared to the $60-80 at other salons. read more

This place is a hidden gem! I don't think I've ever come out of a haircut feeling so confident. Lorena is a master! I've gotten partial highlights here before and loved them every time, but decided to do something a little more drastic and go full highlights and a new cut. Lorena stayed well past closing time to make sure my hair looked flawless. You can tell she is a perfectionist. Lorena and the rest of the staff are all so friendly and welcoming, I instantly felt comfortable the first time I went there. This place is much more affordable than traditional DC salons, and I truly think the quality is better-a win/win! read more

I went to Universal Hair Salon as a personal recommendation to have Lorena style my hair..... I love my haircut and highlights! The service, attention, and artistry and mastery to my hair was exceptional. I always thought that if I went to a salon in DC it would be expensive and "snooty"...I was wrong. I've been coming to Universal Hair Studios since I moved to D.C and so glad that I discovered it. It's not the most glamorous of salons but the service and prices are great. What keeps me coming back in particular is Melvis, who I can't recommend highly enough. He is very friendly, extremely committed to the satisfaction of his clients, and does a great job with my haircuts. Also, he gives great head massages! Overall, highly recommended. They've recently applied a $1 charge for credit cards so bring cash. read more

Got a great haircut from Alessandro. Check it out - new owner, new services. Great prices. I love the friendly atmosphere there. I believe there is parking behind the shop for free, too. In Adams Morgan, it can be difficult to find parking. One of the services they offer is a Keratin relaxing that lasts for a long time, like 6 months. Mila gave me exactly what I wanted. I don't love getting my haircut in general- it makes me nervous, and with Covid, it's been over 2 years since I've been to a salon. But she knew exactly what I wanted and gave me a beautiful haircut, while also teaching me a little Spanish. She was friendly and professional. and the price was very reasonable- much better than what I'm used to in New York haha. Would definitely recommend Mila and this salon. read more

Melvis gave my hair life. I always loved layers but more so volume and he gave my hair both. I have experienced hair salons rushing in and out their customers but this salon didn't. I loved how my hair was given attention and time. They used as many products as were necessary for my hair and no overdos. end results were GREAT and have been missing my hair for so long.
