Karen rocks! I went to Nantucket last week for the first time. She did what I asked for in a haircut and went well beyond my expectations.

My husband and I have been seeing Paul, the owner, at his salon for 26 years. He is a stylist par excellence and his team are terrific -- professional, friendly and always taking great care of the clients. And in this surreal time, it is an added comfort that Paul has gone to such great lengths to ensure his clients and his whole team remain safe. Temp checks, masks on all at all times, disposable gowns, limited capacity, distancing and sanitized stations. We drove 100+ miles from our beach house when it was time to get hair cuts since we wouldn't risk going in anywhere else but Nantucket. Great hair, as always, but also relaxing being in a very safe environment. read more

I am so impressed with the precautions that Nantucket has put in place during the Covid-19 pandemic. I have been going to Yvonnick for 25+ years, and I love him and the staff but I was hesitant about getting my hair done during the quarantine. No more!! They meet you outside, escort you in, take your temperature with a touchless thermometer, spray your hands with sanitizer and then you are ready for your treatment. They have the system down to a smooth-running routine, and it was so nice to get my hair done and feel so safe at the same time. So glad that Nantucket is up and running and making the best of a difficult situation. Highly recommend!! read more

Buyers Beware! I brought the stylist a photograph of Michelle Williams circa Blue Valentine -- messy, tussled layers with bangs. What I ended up with was a very generic face frame that should have cost $20, not $70. My experience was that the stylist didn't pay any heed to the (4) photos I brought (I should have been tipped off when she never asked to see the pictures again after first looking at them before I got my hair washed) and instead cut what she wanted. Other people might have a better experience, but I literally cried when I left the salon. Only redeeming factor is that she was a sweetheart. read more

I just got my hair done here today, and the place is really very nice. I'm giving it FIVE stars for customer service (everyone is very nice, and they make you feel quite comfortable right away. My stylist was Yvonnick, who is this very French and very funny guy who's been styling hair for 20+ years. He's fabulous.) I went in for a color and cut. I give the cut a FIVE, but the color is the only thing to bring the rating down. The communication with Yvonnick was very minimal (I think I knew what he was going to my hair when I actually saw it dry...so I was pretty in the dark). This might be due to my ignorance of hair salons and coloring processes in general, and if it is, my SINCERE apologies to anyone offended--but they only colored my roots, and then did baliage (which was not very extensive, they put in maybe 15 wisps of highlight throughout my whole head). Overall, I came out with the same exact color (perhaps a little lighter, but the difference is not noticeable), and a few highlights. I actually wanted a lighter base (so I wanted my whole hair color to be two shades lighter and of a cooler tone, and then natural highlights throughout). I'm not terribly happy with the color--mostly because I didn't notice a difference. Anyways, the ambiance and the people were very nice. It is pretty expensive--my color and cut was $130. And in general the clientele was older women and men--but I also went on a Tuesday during work hours. In general, I would go again even if only to have another conversation with Yvonnick :) read more

Like Helena said, the clientele is on the more senior side so don't go here if you're looking for something edgy, young and hip. My stylist was Yvonnick. Nice guy but I think he only knows how to cater to a more senior clientele. I asked for a chic long inverted bob. Told him to think more along the lines of Victoria Beckham. When he explained to me what he was planning on doing, it sounded like he got it but I ended up with a short blunt triangle bob, which made me question if he knew what inverted means.... Moreover, when my hair was done it was stiff and hard to run my fingers through. I don't know about you but there are two things that I look forward to when I get my hair cut: the shampoo and being able to run my fingers through my hair afterwards because it's just so damn soft. Lastly, this was the first salon that I've been to that does not have any hairstyle magazines (that I could see) so bring a picture for the stylist's reference. read more

Love Love Love! Have been coming here forever and always love the services and my hair styles. They have seen me through my short (spiked) red hair phase, my long blond phase, my shags, and everything in between. For 20 years people have stopped me on the street, in restaurants, and everywhere else asking where I get my hair cut & colored. I've been seeing Paul, the owner, since day 1 but all the stylists are great as are all of their staff (waxing, Mani's and more). I was looking for a full-service haircut experience before a big ball. I called in advance to ask if they could fade men's hair, and could do a straight razor. I should've known not to go when they had to ask the stylist if she could. I told them that I wanted to use a straight razor at the bottom of my hair. They started cutting my hair before they told me they couldn't use a razor. The stylist, who is not up to date with the latest fashion, clearly could not fade hair. In short, I left before she could do too much damage. Fortunately, she did not charge me. read more

I've been getting my hair cut and colored at Nantucket exclusively for a number of years. I will never go anywhere else. Paul, the owner, is superb. I wear my hair short and am willing to go with new styles -- I usually ask for color and a cut that is somewhat edgy and stylish but not over the top, and then leave it to Paul. And he has never failed me -- he always does a fantastic job. People have stopped me on the street and asked me who does my hair. The shop is clean and comfortable and friendly and the prices are reasonable. Marian gives a WONDERFULLY relaxing, massaging shampoo. Blanca gives great manicures. And George did my makeup for an event once and was terrific. I would not hesitate to recommend Nantucket Salon, especially my go-to: Paul. There is none better. read more

I had a poor experience, and won't try again, with Yvonick, even though I went to him because I did see a haircut on a fellow shopper that I thought was well cut. Maybe he wasn't in the mood to bother the day of my appt. I came early, waited a long time in the front without seeing him, then got the word to get shampooed--although he hadn't yet seen me, a new client, to see how my hair looked before getting wetted down. I asked, they said no, he says to get shampooed first. When I did see him I showed him an old picture (5 o5 6 years old) of me with the haircut I wanted to have, again. It was a bob that enabled the fullest part of the style to be mid-face, rather than at the bottom, like a bell. He cut it like a bell. When he was done and I said oh, you didn't layer it at all like in the picture, he said he didn't want to take a risk, as he didn't know how my hair would react to that. Well, it was cut like a bell at the start, and two months later it's still a bell, even less flattering to my face now. Waste of time, money, opportunity, for me. read more

If you are looking for simple and clean haircut or an all color then this is the perfect place. I am here on temporary business & needed to cover my roots and refresh highlights. Before I left San Diego, my stylist gave me my hair color formula, the brand they have been using, and the level of toner. I presented this to Yvonnick and he said he knew just what to do. Again, very nice guy but my hair turned out to be several shades darker than the blonde I've been using over several years. The prices are actually pretty decent; I paid $160 for a haircut & partial highlights. They do offer wine (in a paper cup ugh) & you must specifically ask. For example they only offered me water or tea until I asked if they served Chardonnay. Conversation is good unless you don't want any at all then Yvonnick is very respectful of that too. Not sure what went wrong when the precise formula was handed to him. The upside? At least I didn't end up with Green hair! read more

Well, Anyone who knows what a Good haircut looks like and feels like will be VERY disappointed if they get one at this "salon". I had moved here in May '13 and decided that I needed to find a barber here in DC so since I really didn't know anyone I searched on the internet. This particular "salon" received pretty fair reviews and was convenient to where I lived so I decided to give it a shot, based on the favorable reviews I had read. the one review did caution about calling first, and I soon learned why. I called to set up an appt. and was told a mens haircut was $44.00, but they didn't have a time that worked for me that day so i just did a walk in on a different day and the price was actually $35.00. the woman, Bela, that cut my hair (apparently the ONLY woman that cuts hair there) told me that they had been in business for over 20 yrs. Within 5 mins of observing her skills, I KNEW this was a mistake, but by that time I was invested. I believe that this is THE most horrible haircut I've ever had. I've even waited 3 1/2 weeks to write this review so that it wasn't purely written with anger and resentment. It's amazing to me that this place lasted over 20 days let alone 20 yrs.! Really.....PLEASE, as I've said, if you know what a Good haircut is, DO NOT expect to get on here, at least from Bela.....you will be very disappointed and if you're like me and you don't like wasting your money OR looking like your 5 yr. old Daughter cut your hair with her play scissors, look elsewhere. Or, if perhaps you feel this review is not credible, then by all means, go have at it, but don't claim that you weren't warned. read more

I've been getting my hair cut here by Chella for about thirteen years. I first went there because it was convenient to my office. I have less occasion to be in DC these days but still try to hold off until I can get there. I always get the haircut I ask for and the atmosphere is as a salon should be - quiet and professional. No loud music, no gossiping among stylists to listen to. Also, if my stylist is not available I trust the other stylists to fill in. read more

I do not recommend this salon. Yvonnick seemed to have flair, but he decided to select my color, not follow what I had, and he colored over my highlights. He seemed pleasant and competent, but I was sad he did that to my previous highlights. He also kept asking to cut my hair. I also was SHOCKED at how elderly the clientele was and how junky the front of the salon is! And even more SHOCKED at how pricey the color was! And if I was not paying attention, I would have overpaid. My bill came to over $200 which made me inquire. I was told that I had a cut and color. In fact, I only had color. I thought nothing of the discrepancy except that the cashier was curt and said he would go inquire. He then came back and said that the ticket was drafted the night before...a complete lie. Who writes a receipt for a client the day before? I think it was some high hope that I would pay for the cut and not notice. I only say that bc I was asked over 3 times for a cut. Plus, the ambiance just was pitiful. I felt that I was stuck in my grandmothers pantry from 20+ years ago. No charm or concern about me sitting and sitting.
