I don't understand the mixed reviews here given our overall very posotive experience. I am happy to update my review if there are issues in the future, but as of now the finished product looks outstanding. We hired Universal Iron Works for a fence/gate project and overall very happy with the results. The gates and fence look amazing. This was 100% custom and Izik did a great job of helping us through the process. Isik is very friendly and has a wealth of knowledge. He also offered many great suggestions which led to a great outcome. They were far from the least expensive option, but we wanted high quality work that would last for many years. My elderly mom had a 6 foot gap in the railings on both sides of the stairs leading from the street to her porch. Our family called all around Los Angeles for months, only to encounter companies that thought nothing about ignoring messages, flaking, etc.. My mom happened to bump into a few of UIW's workers when she was at Home Depot. We used Jesse as the lead on this project, and he was great at promptly returning calls and texts. He was able to fit us in (it was a one-day project, fortunately), the quote was reasonable, and he and two workers finished the job in about 3 hours. We could not be happier with the work and the professionalism. A big bonus point: When they were working on the project, I was about 5 feet away, struggling to remove a screw that has been stripped. Impossible for me. They said that they'd handle it, and it took them about 30 seconds (and no charge, of course). This 30 seconds saved me an hour or two of having to drill out the screw, fill in the hole, and do a bit of repainting. They didn't have to offer to help, but they did. I recommend this company wholeheartedly. I've already passed on UIW's contact information to two friends who are thinking of doing iron work at their own houses. read more

I had 3 custom gates made by Universal Iron Works. The cost for the 3 was around $15,000. The photos of the 2 gates below were custom painted by someone else. Although the gates look beautiful, the customer service is horrible. My gates lost the hydrologic and were slamming closed. These gates are very heavy so it was compromising the metal. I contacted Universal iron Works several months ago and again 2 weeks ago and I could not get the owner, Izik to come out to check or service them either time. He never even bothered to call me back and I have not been able to get service from this company! So, I'm updating this review to one star. Customer service is so important when choosing a contractor and customer service goes beyond the initial installation. I would never recommend Universal Iron Works or use them ever again. I am now looking for a reliable company to service my gates. read more

I am so upset at this company right now. Izik made me a beautiful and EXPENSIVE gate in November 2020. He was the highest price, but he sold us on quality and customer service. After two years, his welds on the post broke. I called and spoke with Audrey, who was very responsive and courteous. I said that after two years, I'd be willing to pay to get these welds reworked, but they never should have failed so quickly. Especially that we do not use the gate as our main entrance. She responded quickly and said that Izik said they could come out tomorrow and repair the welds (that Universal ironworks did unsatisfactorilly) for $485.00. What a joke, what a horrible way to do business. No wonder the recent yelp reviews are similar. I have recommended them a few times over the past two years, never again. BTW, I called my handyman, he welds, he'll be here tomorrow and do it for $100.00. Izik was professional and knowledgeable and he gave us a great price on security doors for our patios. They were beautifully made, sturdy, stable, and exactly what I wanted. Still waiting for a phone call back...automatic gate that they installed never worked correctly. They've been out to fix it two times. The second time they put a new part in. Yesterday I opened the gate to drive-in and it never closed, but instead started beeping so loudly that I could hear it when I went inside the house. It beeped for about 10 minutes and then stopped. The gate will not close. They haven't called me back. If they fix this problem by giving me a brand new working product, I will update this review. read more

Universal Iron Works was EXCELLENT from beginning to end. We discussed our original concept with them and they made it happen even better than we envisioned! After discussing the plans, Isak (the owner) came to the house to take detailed, custom measurements. This was necessary in order to manufacture a custom stairwell hand railing, but it did not take long . . . maybe 15 minutes from his arrival to departure. Then, as promised, in just a few days time, our custom project was ready to be installed. Kristine, in customer service, was EXCELLENT about keeping us up to date on everything as it progressed and set up our installation according to availability at our convenience. When the installers arrived, they were very courteous, respectful of the property as well as myself, hard-working, professional and diligent in their work. When they first came in, they put up protective material to protect the wall where the railing was to be installed as well as the flooring below it. They then started the custom installation. They went over the wall to find the studs and then checked again and then again to make sure they had the studs located properly. Once that was done, they installed the mounting brackets to the wall. After that, they then secured the railing in its proper position and then welded it into place on site onto the mounting brackets! They did it this way to make certain the railing was installed the very best way possible. Once the installers finished, I checked the railing and the installation they did is as solid as a cement wall! The railing, in addition to being made with EXCELLENT quality, is so firm and secure it cannot be budged! When the install was finished, the installers cleared out their tools and protective industrial floor blankets, wall protectant and other items and then brought in their cleaning materials including their own vacuum and cleaned the entire area as if they had never been there. Yes, I am very impressed with this company! In short: The quality of the Product is: EXCELLENT, The esthetics of the Product is: EXCELLENT, The telephone Customer Service Support is: EXCELLENT, The installation Quality & Experience is: EXCELLENT! When I first met Izik over 20 years ago a better guy you could not find when it came to iron gates and openers...the last 4 years? We even had our clients use his services on a few occasions. As of today? Horrible experience, the worst prices on the planet. I paid top dollar for two sets of gates and I realized I paid way too much.....way way too much. I was taken advantage of pretty simple. However, that is fine, we will survive. My power back up? was never connected do to one of his employees not hooking it up. It took two years to find out when I had a power outage and gate would not work. Surrrrre he sent one of his workers to come out and fix it, but again, this is not the same guy I met over 20 years ago. When I simply wanted to get my gates serviced? The prices were astronomical....his right to charge as he does. However, I had gates serviced, parts replaced, fluids added for a fraction of the insane price this guy was trying to charge me. We have deleted his number and his name form our phones and directories, his name is not spoken at our house except with a sour taste in our mouths. 'My Friendship' so I thought meant nothing to him and after all this, I too realize there was no friendship....we were victims of this company. Our small townhouse complex initial business with Izik was 13 years ago when he designed and installed our beautiful iron front pedestrian gate. Four years later Universal Iron Works installed three additional side gates and fencing for the front. They also serviced our overhead garage gate. As can happen, over time, we were lured away by somewhat lower prices with another company. That "relationship" tanked when said outfit performed repair work on our pedestrian gate that lasted less than two years and seemed insulted with our unhappiness - and not inclined to work out a mutually satisfying remedy. Anyway, it's great to deal, again, with a professional, competent, insured, bonded, well staffed Universal Iron Works. And our front gate is functioning beautifully! read more

The work was perfect and it was not an easy job. There was a considerable drop in the 80' fence line. I am an old customer of Issac and had him do a lot of work for me. His prices are high & the job he did on one of our houses was just terrible. He installed a wrought iron fence right on the grass instead of putting it higher off the ground so now we have to keep replacing the bottom piece do to it rotting out from our sprinklers.
