Decided to treat myself and my daughters to a mani pedi and was sadly disappointed. The staff that took care of my youngest was amazing and had her giggling the entire time, even added tons of sparkles to her polish. She was awesome but mine was simply sub par. My manicure request was for a paraffin dip, she did this after I reminded her but I walked out there with wax still on most of my fingers. My nails were not filed well, and after two days of low activity my polish is coming off. I'm not going to be very popular with the hob nobbing Oro Valley elite with this review. Unlike 'normal' Oro Valley residents, I live on a thriving 97-year-old horse ranch and NOT in one of the pre-fab, over-priced, newly sprouted houses the scream, "I don't really have LOADS of money, but I live in Oro Valley...so you all THINK I have money.". I'm a massage therapist with one of the top ten spa resorts in the country that's located in Catalina. I usually have my pedicures done where I work, but I've been off for a few weeks and needed my toesies done. I'm most definitely, and gratefully, a unique looking individual...purple hair and all! BUT I should be treated fairly and equally to those clients that 'have money'. That being said and gotten out of the way...on with my review. Universal Nail Spa is very clean in outward appearance. The employees are all neatly dressed in white lab-like jackets...but only a few are fluent in English. That's ok. Not a HUGE deal. After I was told to pick out a nail polish, and was almost given a manicure instead of a pedicure because my nail tech didn't understand me when I said pedicure...I was brought to my pedicure station. The pedicure was fine. Really...my lady was very sweet. We didn't talk much and the other clients in the nail spa were having very bold stares at me and my hair...whatever. Probably jealous that I have style and individuality, while they all looked like cookie cutter yoga divas. My issue was when my tech had finished my pedicure, she sat me at this table that blew air onto my toes and then promptly forgot about me. After 15-20 minutes I got up, grabbed my shoes,and went to the front to pay. Be advised...they only accept cash tips, which I didn't know and checked their website for...it's not listed. So my poor little tech got a $2.00 tip, and I left completely embarrassed. Will I be back? No. I'll keep getting my pedicures at the luxury spa resort that I work at where my personal style is celebrate and I'm not made to feel uncomfortable. read more

Love this salon. Get my nails dipped here regularly. They last for 5 weeks (until the grow out is too bad to ignore any longer). It's so nice to have good looking nails I don't have to mess with for a month! They have so many colors to pick from too. read more

Wanted to try a new place for a pedi. WAY too expensive for what you get. $27 for a pedicure gets you a mediocre pedi with a quick leg massage, no scrub, and no hot towel. When I get a pedi (and pay almost $30) I expect the whole experience to be good. Most people get a pedi at a nail salon to get a bit of pampering and to relax. Wasn't very relaxing. I will say that she did a great job on my toes and took her time shaping my nails, but I still don't think I would go back here. read more

Went there to get a relaxing mani/pedi. NOT! Never been there before. Guy who did my nails spent the whole time on his cell phone. Actually left me mid foot massage to go in bathroom taking his phone with him. Throughtout whole pedicure he kept checking his phone in drawer and ocaisionally responding to a text. Wanted regular nail polish and he kept pushing gel polish. Shouldn't have to spend my relaxing pedicure telling him no, he asked several times. After he put on polish he went back and cut my cuticles, because he rushed through them the first time. He moved me to manicure table and set down a bowl of cold water with no towel, no instructions. He again took off to back room with phone. Discussed, I paid for pedi only and walked out. Awful customer service. I didn't even want to pay for pedicure, but I did. Won't be back! read more

I went here because it was close and looked like it got good reviews. I took my sister here to get her nails done before her wedding and I got a manicure as well. When my sister asked how long a basic manicure would last the guy said 3-days. Seriously?! My nail polish lasts longer than that. I had a feel he told her that so he could upsell the shellac. She opted for the shellac and I stuck with a basic french. During my manicure my lady kept talking with another worker during most of my treatment. To top it off my nails chipped all of 6 hours later on several fingers. I am going to call but I am unable to come in even if they offered as I work 12 hour shifts. I have never had a manicure chip so quickly and there customer service was very poor. I would not go back. read more

I felt I was cheated by the manager when I left. I ask for change of a 20 dollar bill and he returned with change of a 10. He insisted I gave him a 10. I did not want to start a problem so I left and will never return. I believe in karma, he'll get his and I will hear about it. I highly do not recommend this place unless you want to get robbed!!! I've been to most of the nail salons in Oro Valley and this is my favorite. The nail technicians aren't rushed, the salon is very clean, and the prices are very reasonable. It can get crowded though, so I recommend calling in advance for a reservation if possible. read more

Tried this spot several times; I really wanted it to work since it's close to home. The technicians are friendly for the most part and the shop is clean but the skills if the technicians is low and the products are cheap. The polish is thinned out so it chips and peals very easy. It's had to get any type of consistency in terms of polish streaks and nail shapes. Tina the owner is the best in the shop and she has her regular clients so it's almost impossible to get an appointment with her. It's not worth the money. read more

Do not go here. They do not stand behind their work. Technician cut my nail without permission under the acrylic. My nail broke the next day and he would not repair it. Stay away. They take too many shortcuts and are only interested in the next person. read more

I'm new to the Oro Valley/Tucson area and it was my first time coming here after getting a reference from someone. I made an appointment for the same day, which was very nice and convenient. Even though they were busy, I did not feel rushed, but I'm glad I made an appointment. The technician took his time and did a great job. I will definitely go back. The only thing I wish I had known ahead of time is that they only take cash tips. It was fine because I had cash on me but I don't always. read more

Horrible service. I paid idk how much for a half ass pedicure. My nails aren't so great either and the lady that was servicing me was rude. For being so expensive you'd think they'd had matching gel and regular color right? No. I had to have two colors mixed to match my gel color. Never will I come here again. If you're looking for a very very clean and friendly nail salon this is it! The tubs are lined for each pedi customer and the nail instruments are always sanitized. lol and Tina treat all the customers like family and do everything they can to accommodate your schedule. Love this place. read more

I've been there before & always felt they rushed through the pedicure to get to the next person. I've been going somewhere else, but happened to have lunch next door & just needed a polish change today so thought I'd pop in. Once again was rushed...it looks like a 5 year old painted my toes, seriously! And then when I went to pay it was $9!!! I've NEVER paid over $5 for a polish change. First of all, when I say I don't want gel nails, I don't care if they're $6 more, I don't want gel nails. The man who did my nails was chatting with another lady and paying no attention to me whatsoever. He was on his phone whenever he got the chance and even sometimes right in the middle of it. He would say no words to signal what he wanted me to do, only grunts and quick motions. Once the lady left, he made no attempt to make conversation with me whatsoever and my attempts to continue it fell flat. I got here about 345pm on Saturday and was greeted warmly and offered a drink. There were tons of people working so they got me right in and she did a beautiful job on my nails. I have had problems in the past with nail techs putting the top coat on so thick that my nails don't dry and then are gummy enough to smear them hours later. This wasn't a problem this time at all; and the massage was terrific. The salon is clean and set up nicely and I will definitely go there again. One thing to note is that you cannot add the tip onto the credit card, so bring cash. read more
