HOWEVER - last week, I brought the car in because we had driven over a massive pothole and a) had some weird front-end alignment/rattling issue and b) the check engine light had come on (codes indicated cat converter and/or O2 sensor). Lains checked everything out, said nothing looked amiss on the front-end and the cat checked out ok. They cleared the code and assured me everything would be fine for the 2-week trip to upstate NY I had planned next week. A few days later, I was stopped by a concerned auto mechanic who had noticed my front passanger wheel was "wobbling". We took a look and determined that the front lower control arm bushing was damaged/loose. He tightened things up (temp fix I presume) and declared that "Ray Charles could've spotted that problem. How had my mechanic missed it!!" I have the same question. Fast forward to last night and I'm on the beltway and can't accelerate over about 40mph... check engine light is back on with a code for the cat. Clearly NOT ok as Lains had stated. I went back to Lains to confront them about these things they appear to have missed and was told - "sorry - we don't have any time to fit you in before the holiday". Needless to say, I took the car somewhere else to get properly repaired before my trip. I hope Lains continues to be "busy" with their other customers who they haven't p*ssed off... I personally plan to take some of the burden off them by no longer being one of those customers. Caveat emptor! --a disappointed former customer p.s. I will add that Brian has always been great. I was told he was "out of the country" so I couldn't speak to him about this issue. Perhaps I just got the "b-list" replacement staff while he was out ... in any case, I can't take risks with my safety and money because the owner is on vacation. maybe they need to hire some better back-up staff.

Unfortunately, our experience with the team here was disappointing. There appeared to be a lack of internal communication, which created confusion and unnecessary complications during a time-sensitive situation. We initially brought in our vehicle and received guidance from one of the mechanics on how to proceed. When we returned at a later time to pick up the vehicle, we encountered a different staff member who was unprofessional and released the vehicle without providing a quote for the recommended services. Subsequently, another staff member took an approach that directly contradicted the original plan discussed, which ultimately made things more expensive and confusing. When we returned once again, we were given a paper quote that was significantly higher--by several thousand dollars--than what was originally communicated via text. Due to the inconsistency, poor communication, and overall frustration, we chose not to move forward with their services. It was a costly and stressful experience, and we would not recommend this shop to others.

When a mechanic tells you "oh no we don't take customer parts" that means they don't believe in the mechanics ability NOT to mess it up and the part you buy comes with a 30 warranty so if the part fails then you take the part back to where you got it from they are not responsible so no liability on their part. I can appreciate an honest auto mechanic. But I do wish that they would communicate better. I was waiting for a particular part and did not want to buy it brand new. So I was waiting for a call to let me know when a used part could come in. But days past without a call and really needed a car. I had to be really proactive about making sure he was trying other vendors or letting me know any part leadtimes. Ultimately, under a time crunch I decided to move forward with one part of the repair as the pair was not crucial to driving.
