I went to tonight's Ladies Night and was so disappointed. Event was to start at 6. I arrived at 6. I stood in line (only about 10 people in front of me) to get a gift bag only to be told they only had 100 of them and there were already 200 people there and was give a ticket. I tried asking more questions and was ignored. The person started distributing tickets to the others in line behind me. Obviously, they started before 6, even though the invite clearly says 6. If there had been 200 people in line waiting to get in and only 100 gift bags, I could understand that they would be gone by the time I got there and would have understood. But that is not what happened. This is clearly a deceptive and unfair practice. Shame on you! The only saving grace here was the person assisting me with my purchase. He was very helpful. read more

This is my " go to" location for getting needed items. Where else can you step in and grab what you need and be out the door in a flash? If you dont know where and what, they have lots of helpers eager to help you. Recently went to get some keys and saw Japanese beetle traps on display and helpful employee showed me lots of options. Try that at other big stores. When I recently did price comparison, lot of the advertised items were very competitively priced or even better. I know we are all very sensitive to pricing but at the same time, we are all in a hurry and lack of times. If I want to save money on $1.60 copper union, go to other big box store and save $0.40. From a parking lot to maze of aisles to finding actual item and waiting in long line to pay and walk back, that's lot longer than just walking in and asking where the parts are and out the door in a flash. I ordered a $700 Weber natural gas grill online this morning to be delivered by this Ace store. I have been frequenting this store for 25 years and have spent thousands of dollars here. I went to the store Sunday morning to ask questions about the hookup. Without going into details, the middle aged employee I dealt with was the most rude of any retail employee I've encountered in years. He could not have been more dismissive and abrupt in dealing with me. A real jerk. As I was leaving he was smirking with the young employee, obviously about his interaction with me. This is an OK Ace. It is actually deceptively big with multiple levels. We went in here to kill time and managed to pick up a few things. Can't say Ace's are all that economical, but they good merchandise. Service was so-so. If you are in the University Hills area, it will do you fine. read more

In the past, I would always choose a neighborhood Ace over a Home Depot or Lowes. That is, until I met Miss Personality, Donna. Honestly, her level of excitement to be working in the customer service industry is comparable only to that of the fictional character Eeyore. For her to even say "Thank You" would be too much to ask. We bought two wasp catcher bags earlier this summer. We opened, hung, & used one. Not one dead wasp later, I decided to return the unopened catcher. After processing my return, I was reminded by my best bud Donna that I was beyond the 30 day return timeframe but she did it anyway because I had my receipt. I had to bite my tongue not to ask for a full refund of both purchases & decided never to shop at Ace again instead. read more

Unfortunately, not a great experience in ACE hardware. Ace was NOT the place with a helpful hardware man. I went in looking for potting soil, a planter, and a paint pen for marking my trash bin. First, the selection was terrible for both the the potting soil and the planter. I asked about a paint pen for writing on plastic. The woman named PATTI pretty much lambasted me and made me feel reel dum for asking "We don't have anything like that here", and not in a nice way. I left. I vowed to never go back. read more

I came into Ace for a pretty random purchase. Not long ago, someone stole my license plates (yes, really) while I was in the grocery store. They also took the screws for one of them. As a result, I've had to display my front plate under my windshield. I figured it was time to move it to the right place, so I stopped in hoping to find license plate screws. I asked the cashier up front where to find them, and she told me the exact aisle to find them. That was nice, because this place is actually pretty sizable. I ended up finding a solid but cheap set of screws that included a little wrench that makes it so you need that particular tool to unscrew them, and not just a flathead screwdriver. A good call after the incident. In any case, I was impressed with this place. They've got a lot of hardware, plus some gardening/home stuff. The staff is super nice and helpful. The next time I need any of those things, I'll come back here. read more

Then he said "I don't know what to tell you" and walked away. I've been here more than a few times in the last year because it's my local hardware store and I love our UHills neighborhood. Every time I've come here the employees are rude, roll their eyes, don't offer to help etc. Maybe the way Im presented? Given the times I come here I'm mid house project or yard work and not dressed for an interview just a first time home owner always needing new tools and supplies! I purchased an undercounter strip light less than a year ago. Last Saturday, when I was in the store buying something else, I mentioned that it had failed after less than a year's use. The manager told me to bring it in and they would replace it. Sadly, when I went in this morning, the woman at the register and her manager refused to honor that promise. This is my local hardware store and I have to say the guys there have helped me with so many things!! Like when they changed the blade on my edger after hours of taking turns to get the old one off!! Or when they put together my weed whipper and didn't even charge me!! Just now I have called numerous Home Depots looking for a chimney sweep log, no one had them or just wouldn't look. I called this Ace and they went and grabbed one and put it up front for me to pick up after work. Yea, a couple of dollars more but worth the convenience and the courtesy. read more
