I recently attempted to purchase a truck from out of state through C.R. at University Motors in Nashville, TN. After confirming the price--including TTL and a $699 dealer doc fee--I provided my state's DMV contact information to help facilitate the out-of-state process. I was told C.R. needed to check with their title office, and that I'd receive answers ASAP early in the week. Instead, I received vague updates and was left waiting with no follow-up. It wasn't until Thursday morning, when I reached out myself, that I was finally informed the truck had been sold to a relative of the owner. Up until that point, I had no idea the deal had even fallen through. CR mentioned they don't take deposits and operate in good faith as a small-town dealership that values transparent deals. I accepted that at face value, trusted we were working toward a sale, and let them know I was fully approved by my lender and ready to move forward the moment title confirmation came through. I understand that "business is business," but the lack of communication, transparency, and basic professionalism made this a very disappointing experience. I cannot recommend doing business with a dealership that doesn't back up its word or respect a customer's time and trust. read more

My husband was looking into buying a truck. He normally does it craigslist style but we were having a hard time finding anything good. We saw a truck that they had online that we really liked so we came by and met with Tod and he was super helpful! We ended up purchasing that truck for a great price and we're so happy with the service that we had a friend buy his new car there and went to get my new car from them as well. Do keep in mind when you shop with them they're cars do not stay on the lot for long! If you like it I definitely recommend getting it that day because it will mostly likely be gone by tomorrow. Wonderful staff and a great selection of cars, we will definitely be recommending them to anybody who is car shop. P.S. They saw the everyday account and assumed that I did not have the cash available. If they would have come right out and asked if I had the down payment available now. I would have been happy to explain this to them. However, they choose to assume and lost a sale for it.... Of course, as SOON as I said NO to the salesmans request for the picture, he passed the buck on to his sales manager saying "he needed proof of the downpayment" which was confirmation that apparently, their potential customers are not to be treated with respect or dignity. As expected when I told them to forget about the whole thing, the story changed back to oh well we don't really need it... For full disclosure, my credit score is not great, which I was upfront about with them from the start. In fact, I told them I was not sure I would qualify for the vehicle I was applying for but would like to try. (Incidentally my credit score is in the mid 600 range due to issues that happened years ago and that are being paid off....no bankruptcy so it is not horrible...just not great...) Why in the world you would treat a potential customer like a liar I do not know....but it is very bad business.... I live in Memphis but I bought my used Mini Cooper in Nashville at University Motors. My car was totaled and I needed to find a new ride, pronto! After doing a little research I had my mind set on a used Mini Cooper S. The problem with that was there weren't too many choices in Memphis at the time. In my opinion, Minis come in some pretty horrendous color combinations and Memphis had a great collection of uglies. Lucky for me, Nashville is an easy 3 hour drive and by searching online I was able to locate 3 Minis that I wouldn't be embarrassed to drive. With with a plan and a prayer I headed out on a solo mission the day before Thanksgiving determined to drive all three cars and return home with one of them. University Motors was my first stop. Actually... to be honest, when I drove up to the lot I almost drove away without stopping. It's a very small lot and the giant pink elephant displayed proudly next the road had me wondering if these people were serious. I didn't drive three hours for nothing so I got out and asked to drive the Mini. The sales guy was very nice. He gave me the keys and let me drive the car on my own. Big plus for that. I hate the awkward "chit-chat" that usually happens when a sales staff member rides along. I really liked the car. I left University Motors to drive the other two Mini's but I came back wanting to purchase the car. I was able to haggle on the price and I feel like I got a good deal. They were able to accept my personal check for the full purchase price. This was a relief to me because my bank is not located in Nashville. read more

Sent paperwork to the wrong bank. I now have a car loan through a different bank than was signed up for with a higher interest rate. I have contacted Better Business Bureau to find out options. I never received paperwork from dealership with bank they submitted to. I talked to them for three weeks to get straightened out and they never once said they sent to a different bank. I recently purchased a used Toyota 4 Runner from University Motors. It was one of the easiest car purchases I have ever made. Mike the salesman wasn't high pressure and Joe the GM gave me a fair deal based on the Kelly Blue Book values I had researched. There was no haggling back and forth which I appreciated. Joe also seemed to really care about selling vehicles that don't have issues. When I went to test drive the Toyota, it was in the shop getting new brakes and rotors, because his wife had driven it the day before and felt them grabbing. Bought a truck from here in july after a few hours I knew something was serious wrong and called back to university motors they said take it to midas and they will fix it went 3 times 3 days off work they assured me nothing was wrong with it si I did my own research and found out it had a serious problem with the lifters and camshaft getting flat spots so I called back and called b.s. and they said they would take it to the dealership. While there 2 weeks Anthony the mgr at university motors told me they were working on it I asked for a loaner and they said they would call me back in those 2 weeks he told me they were doing this and that to it. I was supposed to get it back and he told my grandmother it was fixed that was a lie after complaining since I'm a contractor I need my truck that cost 18,000 after tax he told me to go pick it up in gallatin but they haven't fixed it. When I got there it was obvious it hasn't even been touched still in same place I parked it. So I set up a appt to bring it back 10-1-17. Still dont have my truck still no loaner the only help I got was 175.00 because I went down there complaining. Didnt get to go on turkey shoot with son again said I would have it this past Friday again still no vehicle. For what you pay on there lot go to a professional dealership this is a joke they care more about there Marlboro cigarettes and beer 30. Not very impressed with this place at all. My stepdaughter just bought a Mazda 6 from these cowboys and, although I understand the "bought as is" schtick - I have an issue with them sending her off the lot with what amounts to be a hazardous vehicle. One week after driving this wonder of modern engineering off the lot, the alternator died, taking out the battery in the meantime. Not the end of the world, it's not like you can hook a computer up to a car and figure out what's wrong with it, can you? While we were getting this fixed, it was discovered that the brakes were pretty much metal on metal. At this point I got a little hot under the collar. During the alternator fiasco my wife called the lot and spoke to the salesman (Q??) and was told, in not so many words, "tough luck, you bought it, you deal with it", so I have no illusions whatsoever that these guys will sympathize with sending a teenager off the lot in a car that isn't safe, due to the brakes. I bought a 2015 jeep on the 28th of Feb. Im new to this area and over 70 and single. I came from the south tip of texas the beginning of Sept. I drove in my 2005 caddy. I drove here and south carolina and down to Florida and up to Ontario. it started skipping and I took it to Ron Hall and he told me it was time to her go and he told me that if I bought a used car...take in to him to check it out and recomened University Used cars. Mike from pink elephant university auto said he'd have my two car choices checked out then told me they both checked out clean. My choice needed two tires...but he could get then for a good price for me. Three days later I shop a little and the car is dead. I call AAA they come out check the car And says the alternator is shot. Jumps it and I drive home...never starts. i call a mechanic I know in SC and he couldnt come til yesterday. Meanwhile the tires are going flat. I call AAA for the tires...There is no spare and no jack. These tires need a special key says to take them off...of course I didnt get a key either. They got my money and they were friendly. That is all they cared about. They didnt care one iota if I got stranded in that nice jeep with a bad alternator and bad tires that I couldnt get off without a key that they didnt give me, BUT since I didnt have a spare or a jack..I didn't need the key. I recently (as in mere weeks ago) bought two vehicles from these guys. Though I bought them 'as is' they did promise me, several times, that they would pass emissions , and to bring them back if they didn't. Before I drove off with one of them, I asked them about a funny 'lurching' when you press he gas froma stop. They checked it out and said it needed new engine mounts. Since this seemed to make sense to me, and the car was only $2000, I gladly paid $200 to get that fixed. I took the car to my daughter in Chattanooga, and by the time I got there it was lurching so bad I could feel my brains rattle. So my daughter took it to a local place, and they diagnosed it as a Mass Air Flow Sensor...which would have been obvious if UM had hooked up the computer to it. So my daughter brought it back to Nashville and we took it to University. Even though they had promised me that it would pass emissions, and even though I had paid to fix the lurching already, I paid MORE money to fix the issue so it would pass. Meanwhile, the other car I bought started sounding like the wheel was going to fall off. I took it in to UM and they said it needed CV joints....and that God was looking out for my son, because the wheel basically DID fall off when they started looking at it. So I told them to fix that, and to tell me what was causing the Check Engine light to suddenly come on. They fixed the CV joints and had the car for another week before finally telling me it needed a catalytic converter which was going to cost $1500. I was so mad I took the car and brought it back to my son to drive until we could figure out what to do. I went back and talked to the dealer, who basically made me feel bad because they had 'lost' money when they sold me the car, and said they couldn't afford to fix it for free, even though the catalytic converter is clearly an emissions problem. In the meantime, the car died and it's now sitting on the street in front of my house. I am a single mother with two kids in college. I borrowed money to buy these two cars so my kids could get around. I didn't expect new cars for the money I spent, but I didn't expect to have problems within days of the purchase. Especially problems that they assured me they would take care of. My advice? Do not buy a car from these guys. read more

7/31/19Cars was advertised through Cargrus, at 11:30 that morning called up inquired about the specs and history of the car,made an appointment to come see it that afternoon. The conversation with the salesman was pleasant, salesman said he would have the car pulled around and ready for my appointment to view and TEST DRIVE. I arrive at the appointment, the car is pulled around and very well prepared by my salesman personally. I was quiet impressed. He had the key in hand and prepared to show me the car. He invites me and my son to come in out of the heat while he stepped in to use the restroom before the test drive. My son and I walk in told where to wait for our salesman to return. While walking to the cubical I was approached by the Sales Manager and was asked for the key. Now, the car was low on fuel so in my mind that was why he had asked for the key because he also was holding the dealers tag. I assumed I was handing him the key so he could prepare the car for MY TEST DRIVE. He motions another customer to come on and says now lets go take this baby for a ride. My salesman comes down the hall from the restrooms and said alright you guys ready for the test drive? My son and I both had this disbelief look on our faces and shared what just happened. My salesman trying to be optimistic said well based off what I had already shared with him about my income , credit score , ya know the things you need to buy or finance a car; that he and his finance manager felt that I could be driving home the car. Of coarse I was like not if his sale manager just took the keys from my hand is now selling the car to someone else. The car returns and with that all the attitude and demeanor changes towards my son and I (except from my salesman, he was just as upset for my son and I and was headed to try and make it right) . My salesman had prepared my credit application in the hopes that when the car returned we would be ready to sign and ride. My salesman quickly whisked my application over the the finance manager and while the finance manager is looking at it , my salesman has a word with the sale manager that took the keys from me. My salesman returns to his office and I get the whole , well after looking into it, We would not be able to make things work out and be in the payments that you would want; sorry. Meanwhile we hear from the other customer that test drove the car , "Thanks guys I will be back with the down payment money". The next day I called in acting as if I had never been there before and the sales manager that took the keys from my hand answered the phone, when I asked about the cars availability, he responded" Nope that car is not available "I sold it this morning". My salesman was not there that day either, I was told it was his day off. Never even got to TEST DRIVE the car it was sold out from under me while my salesman stepped away. If I could leave a positive experience comment it would be to absolutely, praise my salesman. He had gone out and personally washed and cleaned up the car knowing I was due in that afternoon. He knew I was absolutely excited about the car and wasn't just kick- in tires. I was a serious buyer. My salesman shared with me how upset he was that this happened because when he was out preparing the car to be shown, the sales manager had inquired as to why he was doing it himself, my salesman said, " I have a gal coming this afternoon to see this car and she is serious about it". Otherwise he would not have gone so far out of his way. He wanted this car to be perfect for me. I believe he was excited about my excitement for the car. I had been looking for this model car for awhile and the price and condition of the car was amazing. My advise and warning....be leery of places like this, if its being ran by a sale manager like this guy.....I would be afraid of what else underhanded they would do just to sale cars. read more

Found my Hyundai here through eBay Motors and my grandmother got her Ford Taurus here a few years ago and it is still going strong. The staff was fair and helpful. They went out of their way to make sure the car was okay to drive even though the passenger side airbag was having issues. Thankfully that repair was covered by a recall. Overall, a good experience, but I wish I had more time to shop around. Such is post wreck insurance dealings. I only had my rental a few more days by the time I could go shopping, and putting down a huge downpayment made financing hard. However, they worked with me and gave me the best deal they could. Now at the three month mark, and I am loving my car. Even took a road trip in it to Atlanta at the end of February and it drove down and back wonderfully! Don't get me wrong, like any other car dealer it pays to do your homework, but I would gladly return when I am ready for my next car if the price is right and they have what I want. Funny thing is, when I took the Hyundai back to them, to have them try to fix the airbag sensor (only to find out that it had to go to the dealer for the repair), the temporary car they gave me was the other car I was considering getting. It was a Toyota corolla and unlike the Hyundai, it was slightly newer, but had been in a wreck. Needless to say I felt cramped in that car and it was awkward to drive, I think I am sold on full size sedans at this point, or as I like to call them, convention cars as I can cram all my wife's stuff and my stuff for geek and anime conventions into my Hyundai sonata with some room to spare. I went in to University Motors last week and bought a 2005 Hyundai Santa Fe. At the time I thought they were extremely nice and helpful! When I was there, the only thing I requested of the salesman, was that the car he sold me be RELIABLE. On the way home that day, my car starts making a clicking sound while driving. Turns out the CV joints are bad, however we were not told it had ANY problems. Then for the following three days, the Santa Fe wouldn't start!! I ended up having to WALK to work! So much for reliable. The very next day we went in and told him of the problem. He said to come in Thursday and something would be done about it. Thursday at 11 we went in and he said the mechanic was busy, and to come back at 2 but to call before we headed back in. At 2 we called and we were told he was still busy and that they would call us back. After no call, we called them at 5 o'clock (they close at 5:30) and we were told they were going to call us at 5:30. AT THE TIME THEY CLOSE! So instead of fixing the car that day like they said, they pushed us off over and over and then said to come in Friday! Of course Friday came and my car wouldn't start (again!) I had to wait for my husband to get off work, to jump me off and I finally made it back to University Motors.. After the mechanic took a look at the car and verified that the CV joints are bad AND the car needs a new alternator.. The Salesman tells us that they will fix the alternator but will not fix the CV joints, because they won't break down for about a month or two. Umm.. Do what?! You sold us a faulty UNRELIABLE vehicle, without telling us that anything was wrong with it.. Pushed us around over and over about fixing it, then finally take a look at it and tell me that "yes, there's a problem with the CV joints, but because they won't break down for "another month or two" you aren't going to fix them?!" Please do yourself a favor people and DO NOT buy a car from University Motors! They seem fantastic until something comes up, then it's hard to get a hold of them and get something done. Purchased a 2007 Honda Civic a couple of months ago. I swiped MY credit card for $1800 for the down payment and then played a game of cat and mouse with them to follow up minor issues they promised to fix asap....AND then the car broke down and required over $3k in work which they refused to fix! They ended up dropping off the car at Honda of Nashville and haven't heard from university since. BIG MESS! Wrote a fb review when it happened explaining the entire situation and University Motors lied to Facebook saying I never purchased a car from them to have it removed. (I have the receipt and would appreciate it if Facebook would do more research before deleting legit reviews). PLEASE DO RESEARCH BEFORE DEALING WITH THESE PEOPLE! They will not keep promises and once you sign the papers any problems pre-existing or not are yours regardless of what they promise to fix! Went because they had a number of used Subaru options for our son. Found out they didn't offer any warranty on their vehicles so we were about to walk out. They chased us down and said they would pay for 1 year aftermarket warranty and give us a second year at a reduced price if we bought the vehicle. They stated that the best warranty package covered everything except normal maintenance items and I specifically asked about head gaskets and other specific expensive repairs; all of which we were assured were covered. They gave us a brochure; all reflecting what we were told. Now a year later, only 5,000 miles put on the car, and while still under warranty we find out the brochure wasn't for the warranty we were sold and they don't cover half the things we were sold on; specifically head gasket repairs unless damaged by an internal part. Upon inspecting the head it had a hairline crack in it, which, according to the Subaru dealer that is repairing the vehicle, could be caused by malfunctioning internal parts along with damaging the head gaskets. One would think the warranty would now cover this since it now aligned with what we were told. Oh no, they came up with another excuse to not pay. So I've called the manager (Kevin) several times to discuss this whole buying and warranty experience. The couple of times I've spoken with him he is supposedly going to discuss with the warranty company to "make it right" and "call me back the following day"; however he never follows up and calls back. On top of that we wanted to set up the loan to help build credit for our son but the salesman was in a hurry to get out for the day and didn't put our son on the loan so we had to go through all the paperwork a second time several days later to fix that as well. Really disappointed in lying to us about the warranty, giving us the wrong warranty paperwork (on purpose, not sure but it all seems fishy), not calling us back to discuss the warranty issues on multiple occasions, and not offering to do anything to try to make it right. Now, we're in for a $3,000 bill ($2300 head gaskets and $500 dollar new head). Would not recommend this dealership to anybody; they knew this was supposed to be a purchase of a reliable vehicle for a 19 year old with limited funds to cover any mechanical issues! We've put less than 5,000 miles on the car and is only driven approximately 1.5 miles per day for a work commute so it is not mistreated in any way!!! Definitely feel like they took advantage of the situation. In addition to all this, the power steering went out after 3,500 miles. Sadly they pressured the dealer to fix it under the warranty so we could pay them the deductible of $100 for a seal that cost less than $20 and took 10-15 minutes of time to fix. You just don't have all these repairs on a vehicle that's been "thoroughly checked out" and then combine it with a salesman that is in such a hurry that they don't set up the loan paperwork correctly, or management that won't call you back when trying to discuss the problems/issues for this to be an ethical business. I recently purchased a 2000 Honda CR-V from these crooks. I had wanted a CR-V for a long time, and this was the first one that I found that suited me needs financially. I made the payments in 2 parts, and the day after I made the final payment, the axle came off the car at the 4-way stop around the corner from my house! We had not even received the title or final documents on the sale, and they have refused to fix the vehicle. I have already complained to the BBB (which they aren't a member of anyway), twice now with updated information on the breakdown. I have also filed a claim with the General Sessions Court and should be hearing from them by tomorrow. The only thing I asked for was that the vehicle was dependable since my 21-year-old would be driving it to work 2nd shift. They assured me their mechanic had given it a "thorough" inspection. If this car had been place on the rack, there is no way any reputable mechanic could have missed this! So either it was missed, or they decided to sell it "as is," knowing it was going to fall apart as quickly as it was paid for! If this had happened on the interstate, my daughter would be in the hospital and this bunch of lowlifes would be facing criminal charges by now! Wouldn't it have been cheaper to just fix the car in the first place? read more

The only staff person that was a consummate professional was Todd. From the GM down the experience was less than the typical stereotype of "the used car salesman" tell you anything to get a sale. Unprofessional rude and hostile employees, the car was dirty inside and out. Nothing exceptional or impressive. Poor customer service, slow response in repairs or any other follow up. One staff used a lot of foul, vulgar language and yelled at me when they came to pick up car for a repair... and the car they picked me up in broke down all of to which the GM never responded to say the least... After I repeatedly called & emailed Kevin the GM he was less than concerned and appropriate in his response. this was after the drop off guy through the other staff members under the bus and made a big deal OVER and OVER again about the fact that he had to get involved to drop the car off because the incompetence of the other staff...
