I apologize for the length and I'm not usually a negative…read morereviewer but... full experience: We recently relocated to Portland from Sacramento, Ca and were so excited to find a passionate group of folks to take care of our three cats and 70lbs dog in-(our)house. We used Tails and Trails 3 times with mixed results. Important to know- you create detailed notes with the owner (Jeff) on how to access your building, routines, where leashes are, etc., etc., when you have your introductory visit. Our instructions ask that the handler only feeds the cats their canned food, nothing else. 1st time, week-long trip (June 2024)- handlers were 2+ hours late regularly. While this wasn't the biggest issue, we don't have a doggie door and that level of lateness pushed the pup's bathroom breaks longer than we're comfortable. But, we liked the service offered and adjusted how often we scheduled handler visits for the second and third visits. 2nd time, 1 week of walks while both of us were gone for longer than 8 hours (September 2024)- Great! Annie (I'm not disclosing employees' full names for their privacy) had no problems and was very helpful. 3rd time, overnight away- 4 visits requested: Sat afternoon and evening; Sun am and afternoon (October 2024)- Day 1- We left the house at 8 am and scheduled feeding/walk visits for about 1:00 pm and 6:00 pm. Around 1:25 pm, Chloe (office manager) texted me to ask if we had scheduled for 7:00 am that day. When we said we hadn't, a communication between Chloe and a handler led to the 1:00 pm visit being skipped. We talked with Chloe that evening and she said the handler would roll the afternoon and evening visits together, apologized for the miscommunication between herself and the handler, and credited our account for the mistake (all great). The handler arrived around 7:00 pm. They had a difficult time accessing the building so Chloe texted us to say the handler would hang out for a little longer before leaving if they couldn't get access. Once they did get into the building, they couldn't find the food or leash. The access information, food instructions, and where the leashes are were all in the instructions. The handler fed the pets and took the pup for a 15-min potty break. Since we were only gone for a night, we didn't book anyone to stay overnight. We considered cutting the trip short and wish we had. Day 2- Oscar was our handler. We got notifications that both visits were completed and everything seemed to have gone smoothly. When we got home, a glass jar with cat treats had been taken from the closed closet and left open on the counter. When we got home, there were treats all over the counter and SHATTERED GLASS MIXED WITH TREATS all over the floor. All three cats had engorged stomachs. While Chloe apologized and said she'd speak with Oscar the next day, we didn't hear back from Tails and Trails' manager or owner. We'll be anxiously monitoring our furbabies for a few more days.

Asking friends to come twice a day is a burden, and I've had other pet sitters in the past that I'd need to check in with to hope they showed up that day. Fortunately, I found Denise at Trixie Pet Care and spent a few stress-free days out of town AND came back to happy cats! The first thing I was surprised by was Denise's instant rapport with the cats. They can be standoffish, like most cats, but when she entered my home, they ran up to her! She was completely comfortable with my giant Maine Coon children and they were not afraid of her at all. While we were out, I deeply appreciated the texts every time she was there, photos of what they were doing, and updates on their state of mind (spoilers: they were either playing or sleeping). The way they were acting in the photos let me know they were not stressed and hiding, but rather out and about, eating, and living their best cat lives while I was on vacation. Words cannot express how valuable Denise's services were and we will only use her as our pet sitter from now on!

He has friends. (We sign in on occasion and watch him playing through their live-stream site.) And Jessica does an excellent job grooming our adorable mixed breed pup! Well, This time we left him for weekend boarding. Barklandia is still top dog in our book! They accommodated his special diet without any reservations, and he played the entire weekend. How can we tell? He's exhausted. After his initial excitement of being home, he went straight to his bed. Yogi only does this when he's exhausted. We requested an exit bath, so of course he got one. Because he's been going to Barklandia for daycare, we had no concerns about leaving him for the weekend. It's obvious the entire staff loves dogs. They have proven to be honest and trustworthy! First off, just want to say that I'm pretty much in love with all the staff here (minus one receptionist that I met today who wasn't the friendliest person compared to everyone else). Shawna brought me to the exam room to prep me for Dr Shannon. Back story: My sweet 12 year old dog has gotten more lame in his rear quarters and my husband and I want to prevent it from getting worse. We were told by our Vet in Tualatin park animal clinic to get rehab consult. I'm so so thankful we met who we met here. Shawna was so friendly, kind, gentle with my dog. She patiently listened to everything I had to say, asked follow up questions so I knew she was actually listening. She was just really present. Then moments later walks Dr Shannon. Something about her energy just made me feel like my boy was in such safe hands. The consult was 2 hours long but it didn't even feel that long. Dr Shannon was so so thorough, but so so gentle knowing my pup was in pain. Half way through the appointment he even fell asleep! After the appointment they gave me homework and Shawna thoroughly went over everything. She showed me what to do and all the tricks I needed to know. Fast forward a week. I can't remember the tech that took my pup back for his water therapy but I totally love her energy! She told me I could watch from outside, which I did for a few minutes as they got him set up inside the tank. But both Shawna and the other tech kept petting him and reassuring him. My heart melted knowing they were being so good to him without me being there comforting him myself. When he was done they called. The tech whose name I forgot brought him out and was so super sweet she patient telling me how he was doing and answering all my questions. She mentioned something that made my day about what a good boy he was and how he just knew what to do, and that nothing phased him. These are things pet owners need to hear because I'm honestly thinking he's scared out of his mind being somewhere new. Thank you, all of you for taking such good care of my best friend. Despite only coming here twice I want to come back all the time. I can't praise them enough.

My dog loves coming here and the staff is very engaged and aware of what's happening with your pup. They noticed a tiny bump on his head (he had prior to coming) and six months later remembered that bump when he had surgery on it. Their staff is always friendly, seem to love the dogs, and take their time answering any questions. We're very fortunate to have them here. My only quibble is that you don't actually go in to their facility. You arrive, call, and they come get your dog. (At pickup, some folks don't even get out of their car -- the staff opens car door and pup hops in.) So, I haven't actually been inside though they do have tours on Saturdays when they don't have dogs running around. I was put off by that initially, but from the pics I see and how much my dog loves it, I'm fine with it. A nice perk is they take really nice pics of pups for their Instagram page, including the one they took of mine here.
