Pros: Casper is extremely knowledgeable, actually cares, and is there to help you whenever you need it. We saw a huge improvement in our two dogs. Course Training was fun and inexpensive. Cons: Dirt road entrance is wonky. Overview: We took two of our dogs here (pit and a lab) because they were not getting along, they got in a bad fight that resulted in taking one of them to the vet for her injuries. Now, they PLAY together, which they have never really done in the year they've known eachother, they would just deal with eachother and get in occasional fights that were pretty scary. We've seen a big improvement since starting with Casper. So overall, I'm surprised by the negative reviews, because Casper is amazing. He's extremely knowledgeable on behavior modification in dogs and he is actually passionate about it. Not only that, but you feel like he's ACTUALLY trying to help you and your dog. You can contact him basically 24/7 with questions, and during classes he doesn't stop once the time is up, he will help you until it's done right. So if you're looking for quick in and out, then Unleashed isn't for you. If you're looking to actually help your dog and learn how to make you and your dog's life better, then you're at the right place. Classes at Unleashed do run over time a lot, but it's because he wants you to learn and he wants it done right so that your dog will ACTUALLY succeed. The group classes are inexpensive. Plus, Casper makes YouTube videos of a wide range of different trainings that are helpful. For a further in depth breakdown, keep reading! Background info: We sought out help with two of our dogs, a black lab and a pittie, because they had gotten in a bad fight where our pittie was hurt. First we tried starting with Camp Mutt, but they priced us at over a thousand per dog for their 6 week basic obedience training, once a week classes. Feeling overwhelmed and doomed financially, we reached out to Casper for a second opinion. He came to our house for an in-home consultation, met our dogs in their natural environment, and discussed our goals and pointed out things he saw just being there in our house watching them. He showed us some training techniques, provided advice, and answered our questions. He really put us at ease and explained everything so thoroughly. He assured us that he can help us and provided us with reasons why our dogs are behaving the way they are. He also informed us that we don't need to do one on one training, which saves us a lot of money. He advised we start going to his group training sessions that occur once a week, so our dogs can socialize and build on their basic obedience skills. We paid $150 per dog for the 6 week course, and it was so worth it, I'm honestly amazed at how great our dogs are doing now. 6 Week Course: Once a week we came to class at the designated time. I'd describe his classes as college seminars or presentations, but with hands on learning techniques. He talks a lot about the material we're learning that day, why it's important, what not to do, etc. and then he walks us through the technique. We work with the dog on our own, and he provides feedback or advice while we're training. For the trainings, Casper uses a Martingale collar, it is made of fabric and chain, and the chain can tighten for "corrections," which Casper will show you how to properly execute. It does not harm the dog, it is meant to get their attention and tell them they're doing something wrong. The collar has no prongs or other harmful aspects, so if used correctly as Casper shows you, there is zero harm to your dog. Casper also allows for the optional use of shock collars. He had us test the shock collar on ourselves, to which you will feel that there is also zero harm done to the dog as well. On the highest setting, it feels like the fake gum gag toy, where you pull the "gum" and it shocks you. It doesn't hurt. If either of these methods make you uncomfortable, I recommend just asking questions, talk to Casper, shadow a class, watch his videos, do some research. Exam: Scary word, but the exam is not that bad. Casper describes the training and classes we go through as college level, whereas we test on a kindergarten level. SO as long as you keep up with the course and train with your dog at home here and there throughout the week, you should be golden. Location: the location is a little odd, beware that the road is a little wonky and the location is not a typical business location. The classes are held in a pavilion across from his house. The road to get in has a lot of dips that fill with water when it rains, so definitely be careful driving through there. Our two dogs are in the middle of basic dog training. The difference we have seen in just this short time is wonderful. Our 10-month-old, 60+ pound, German Shepherd mix is already more obedient. This has cascaded into his demeanor with our 3-year-old granddaughter. Our 15-month-old, 35-pound, Carolina Coon Dog mix has always jumped on people to greet them. That will require more work, but at least she is improving. Casper trains dogs to all levels, including service dogs. Our hope is to get our younger dog to a therapy dog level. Why did I choose Unleashed Dog Training? I chose them because I wanted professionalism, excellence, and to have a higher standard for service dogs. Absolutely amazing. They are well versed in ALL training techniques. I have seen them train dogs who were told they were "lost causes" and "needed to be put down" and turn them around 100%. These dogs are now capable of being out in public, around other animals, and other humans. I have never seen a trainer capable of saving hundreds of dogs from being put down. He trains pets to a competition level of obedience. His service dogs are the best service dogs I have EVER seen. I have seen many around the world. He is inexpensive, well educated, and extremely professional. Over all this was the best investment I have ever made. Not only is this an amazing organization but they also give back to the community. He has donated over 50 service dogs to those in need. (About $750,000 worth of training and dogs completely free to the ones in need) They also work with the Lions Club (Casper is the president at the moment), Militarily Order of the Lancers (the post commander) and his wife is the disability coordinator, hosts veterans appreciation day for the county, helps coordinate operates deployed Santa, hosted dog day in the park competitions for the last 5 years, is an active advocate for veterans, disabilities, and service animal education to the public. Apparently correcting an animal by use of physical contact is how this organization advises their clientele. The trainer struck our puppy and advised us to do the same. My daughter was in tears after just one lesson. A complaint to the Better Business Bureau was made. It took him a month to respond and when he did he called our puppy "dangerous" and that the owner had no control of the animal. The owner is a 11yr old girl and isn't that why you take lessons? His classes never started on time always 15-30 mins later than scheduled. He would go off on rants about everything for 10- 15 mins of class time and this was only a one hour class. To get to his house which is we're he holds the classes you have to go down a muddy nasty road with huge holes and most the time you have to park in the mud My dog learned nothing here. When I first talked to Megan at Unleashed Dog Training, she assured me that they would be able to help me with my fear reactive Great Dane. Of course I was skeptical because I had taken him to trainers before and had even seen a Licensed Vet Behaviorist whom had put him on medication and told me that he would be a dog that would never be able to be around other people because of his reactivity. During the initial in home consultation, I was open to different training methods than I had tried in the past and decided that I would continue forward with training. Let me tell you, Casper helped my Dane and I to work in unison and as of our last training, we were able to not only walk through Lowe's, but when we did, not a peep was made by my dog. I can now take my Dane on walks, have people in my home, and go through a drive through without him trying to lunge and freak out at every human, dog, or unknown "thing" that he saw. I'm so glad I found this place! After adopting our dog we noticed he had some aggression we took him to Petsmart for one on one sessions, and it was a waste of time he just got worse. then we took him to Unleashed Dog with Casper and from the first moment we met him we saw a difference in our dog. So we started taking our dog to the obedience class very affordable and we received all the help we needed. Casper helped us to figured out that our dog didn't have an aggression problem he wasn't socialized properly and guided us how to work with him. If you have had an issue with him it's because 1. You didn't make it clear as to what your intentions were/are for wanting or needing a trained/ or service dog. 2. You and or your dog could not do what his course requires. He expects 100%. He gives 100% and expects that in return. He doesn't want his signature on an untrained dog certification. I was at my work one day when Casper came in with his service dog Zeus. I decided to ask about his service dog and we got into a big conversation about it and my issues. He kept encouraging me to come and see him and I didn't until I was hospitalized for my anxiety and my PTSD. If I could give more stars I would. Casper's program is amazing. You won't find a quality program for his price anywhere. He is attentive, intelligent and willing to help you one on one. I received a beautiful almost full grown GSD/Malinois that I thought was un-trainable. He was pulling me everywhere. He didn't give two craps about me. But in roughly six weeks my dog and I are now a team. He listens, obeys and is always willing to learn more each day. Casper literally flipped my dog into an amazing animal, partner and friend. The first class I went through saved my dogs life. I dropped a glass in the kitchen and it went everywhere. I told him to leave it, and he left the mess alone.
