Sad day. I still like my therapist, but I was very aware that customer appreciation is not the business model of the company. I've been going here since 2015 and would say close to or over 100 appointments. Two days ago there was a missed appointment. Not missed, just I had the wrong time of 11:30 and it was 10:30. My fault, should have paid attention to the reminder text, but anyway, it's my fault. Reschedule for today. Today's massage was great, but not the company's value they put on a long-term customer. I also have to mention that making this error is the first, or maybe it happened once before, but I can not recall it. They charged me a $110.00 no-show fee. 8 can understand a recent new customer or someone who this happens frequently, but having been going here 9 years it just rubbed me the wrong way... I will have to take some time to try and relax about this issue. It sure didn't make me relax during my massage today. read more

I received a gift certificate for 90 mins for a massage. It had to be the best massage I've had in a while. The masseuse was very knowledgeable, strong and wonderful to chat with. Usually I like to relax and in most cases, knock out. I found Ariana voice to be smoothing and learned a lot of what I can do to help myself w/ my sore old body I left there feeling wonderful. I've been going to UTB since December 2010, and have nothing but amazing things to say! The long term therapists I have seen were all wonderful; occasionally I saw a filler person in between and have liked the technique of some more than others, but it was always a good experience. The decor is stunning and the owner is awesome. One of my favorite perks is that you can text to schedule. I'm so happy to have found this place! I found them from one of the women at goes to my midwife. She recommended going here for a prenatal massage! I texted them early in the morning one day and they responded back to me around 7:30am working to fit me in! I was so happy and shocked to find out they had a few openings to choose from one in the morning and a couple in the afternoon. The facility is very calm and relaxing makes you feel very welcomed. My massage was different than what I've received in my past. I didn't think it would do the job I was looking for but I was shocked when I got home and some of the areas that were bothering me weren't anymore! I reached out by text message to book a surprise cupping massage for my husband on his birthday. We live in Tacoma and places that do cupping are hard to find, so I thought the drive would be worth it. Paid the invoice, did all the things. My husband had his massage today and it was just a regular massage, no cupping at all. I paid over $100 for this "regular" massage that I would have NEVER booked had it not been a cupping massage. apparently they "forgot to add cupping" to his appointment. Dude that was THE appointment. Give me a break. Will never visit again and do yourself a favor and don't book there. Ridiculous. Therapists are great but you have to schedule months in advance. Admin process is lacking. Office doesn't make it known very clearly when they will open up a new month's calendar for scheduling, which is disappointing for existing clients wanting to continue their regular routine for medical massage and then they are unable to when everything already booked a day after the new month opens up. New business is good for the business, not great for existing patients who can't consistently see the same therapist and can't stay on the routine advised by doctor and massage therapist. read more

Well, in the times of Rona where I'm working from home, I developed tingling and numbness in my left hand. This is super uncomfortable and hard to type. A friend recommended Unlocking The Body for massage so I decided to check it out. The staff has taken a lot of precautions to keep things sanitary and safe. My first visit was amazing. Lena was my LMT. I left sore, and later bruised, but happy. There was cupping and some crying but relief overall. My second massage, with Kyle, was also super firm and left me sore, but also great. A third massage is scheduled. Perhaps one of the things I look forward to the most at this time. Also... they sell candles! I bought the Moroccan Amber and just love it! read more

Update - UTB is better than ever! The new location is great, staff is as courteous and helpful as ever, and the therapists are able to treat pain very effectively. I was dealing with a long term sciatic nerve issue. After my first visit, I began to feel some relief, and my therapist gave me some tips to try at home. Week after week, I felt progress, and now I'm at a point where I can manage the pain between visits with the tools provided by my therapist. Life is so much better with less pain! I've been coming here now every other week since December. I needed to find a place to offset my every other week schedule of massage/chiro I have at a different establishment. I've been remodeling so it's been necessary for me to function by having a massage every week. The front office staff is very sweet and easy to interact with. They've always been great with scheduling and have a nice automated system for massage reminders that get sent out via text. The atmosphere when you come in is very cozy, woodsy, and warm. They have these delicious homemade candles that they have for sale-I've bought some from the clearance section and they burn pretty long actually. The place is always clean, the bathrooms are nice and easy accessibility. If you want cupping I believe it's just a $10 add on so just mention it at the beginning of your massage. All the rooms are basically the same aesthetically they have very nice tables, dimmer lights, music playing, and nice space to place your belongings out of the way. I've seen 4 different ladies and by far for what I like and prefer in a massage Morgan is the absolute best in the building. She doesn't do a bunch of knuckling and when she does use the little bit of it her technique is very good. She's very in tune with what spots she can push harder and others that need to be worked out before applying more pressure. I've had 100s of massages from high end spas out of state, to hole in the wall parlors an chiropractic locations and physical therapy spots. Morgan by far gave me one of the best leg massages ever and her money making neck decompressing grow 2 inches technique was a surprising first that I thoroughly enjoyed. So thank you. I will say everyone's different with what they want in a massage I personally need a heavy hand after working out some of the tension so I can actually enjoy it and not just be in pain. I would give 5 stars but I'm knocking one off because I also had my worst massage ever here from a different lady but sometimes that's just how it goes in a place where theirs several masseuses. I started going here over two months ago. Had the MLD and Deep Back massage done by Kyle multiple times. Great experience...except if you need to cancel when you wake up the day of the appt. not feeling well. The recording before you reach the receptionist says do not come in if you generally don't feel well. A sore throat and an oncoming headache, made me decide to call at noon. I was told there would be a $80 cancellation fee. In shock, I said no problem, I'll keep the appt. then. The receptionist talked to the manager and said they would waive it this one time, but next time I'll be charged. I had decided while I was waiting to take the cancellation fee and be done with UTB. This is the second time I've had this problem with them. In pre-COVID times, I'd have just gone in because I'm pretty sure it's the cold weather causing my sore throat and headache, but this is a pandemic, I am not 100 percent sure it's not COVID-19 and I'm an honest person. I'm not feeling well. I don't want to expose others to something that may not be cold weather related. If I want to continue to go to UTB Massage, I'd have to risk paying the cancellation fee if I should wake up not feeling well on the day of an appt. or lie. I can't and won't lie because of their horrible business practice in the time of a pandemic. In fairness, they said it impacts the masseuse. Kyle won't get paid for the 6 pm appt. that I cancelled at noon. I apologize to Kyle for that. I felt for his safety and the safety of other clients that the best decision was to cancel. The receptionist also said that they wouldn't have a problem filling the 6 pm slot. So bottom line, they'll be okay, and I'm left feeling like it's time to look elsewhere. I wander now if others have just gone to their appt. not feeling well just because they would be charged the late fee if they cancelled. read more

I've been trying to find a massage therapy clinic that has availability during COVID, and Unlocking the Body was the place! I was recommended here by a friend, and haven't been disappointed! I really love seeing Whitney English, she really does a good job with the deep tissue and getting my troubled areas. I've also seen Charlie, and I wasn't disappointed either, I actually found my self snoring during my session. They also sell candles, which are the best! Their candles don't smell artificial and significant other actually liked the Confetti Frosting one I bought so much, that it was stolen from me. The front desk staff (didn't catch their names unfortunately) are friendly too. They were all super informative and do whatever they can to help you. read more

Terrible experience. Personally I would not even give my experience there 1 star. I went here once and will never go back. The massage therapist (Stephani) I believe was her name was not attentive to my needs at all. I had to actually direct her the entire time and she still managed to not listen to anything I was saying which is absurd! I literally laid on the massage table with my eyes open. I was very open with her in the beginning of the session that I had PTSD and was in an extreme amount of pain. The first 20mins she did not even massage me I actually am not sure what you would call her technique because it was not trigger point either. Anyways $70 plus a tip and I came out more stressed than when I got there. I will never go there again and sadly would not recommend that specific therapist. Hopefully people have better luck with the other therapists there. read more

So glad I found this place! There are so many therapists here but that's the beauty of it, you can try them all out and figure out who works best for you. I like to see a variety of therapists typically because I think different styles are helpful, so it's nice that I can do that all in one spot. Lena is super knowledgeable and does amazing deep work and can even do more difficult areas such as my diaphragm. Katy is great for a relaxing massage and she's so sweet, she'll remember little things about you! Jason also does deep work as has a lot of experience. All around, the massage therapists are very well educated here and keep up on continued education. I've always had positive interactions with the front desk staff as well. Sad I'll be moving out of the area soon, but I'll be sure to pop in for massages when I visit in the future! read more

I am SO glad I didn't listen to the 1 star reviews complaining about the front office. I can tell you I have only ever been treated with respect and kindness. I have a feeling the one star reviews are from people who have a hard time being held accountable for their obnoxious and rude behavior. As far as therapists and their treatments go UTB is top tier!! I've seen both Lena and Destiny and both are outstanding at deep tissue work. They will even accommodate your preferred musical genres if you're like me and not down with the flute and nature sounds. I actually, listened to TOOL in one of my massages! I mean deep tissue and TOOL does it get better? Lol The passion and education in this clinic is so obvious and I just love to see it. I truly appreciate that they use the tools they feel necessary during your massage to truly customize it for you while maintaining a reasonable price point. They also sell candles that smell amazing. I called to schedule a couples massage for myself and a best friend who was dying from cancer. She was 35 years young. She had very specific requirements because the cancer had become advanced. The staff and owner rallied together and quickly organized a couples massage for us. Unfortunately she declined rapidly within a few days and she was to sick to make the appointment. I went without her. Mainly because I didn't want to be a no show for people who had gone out of their way for a stranger, and she would be pissed had I missed it. It turns out that they opened the office on Sunday for us when they are normally closed. I explain what had happened, fighting back tears. This group of people were amazing. My friend passed shortly after, but I was able to meet and Anna the therapist who came in on her day off for us. I have been several times meeting with different therapist. I can't tell you how amazing and kind the staff have been. They do great work and have a customer for life. The office is well thought out and comfortable. The people are the best type and I hope I can drive business to a place that took care of me at one of the worst times of my life. They heal more then just the body. I am forever grateful. read more

Been here once: the place it self is sort of hidden behind a house. Took me a minute to find. Receptionist was not very friendly. She just handed me the new patient paperwork and nothing else. No eye contact. No smile. I wouldn't have cared for it, if it wasn't for her chatting up with the patient after me. And completely ignoring me. Massage itself was very good. She was friendly and did an awesome job. I like my massages with more pressure. And most women masseuses are more light touch. read more

I WAS a customer since 2013, never missed an appointment or arrived late. Recently I called midweek to see if there were any openings on Friday and was told there weren't any. I was asked if I wanted to be on their "cancellation list" which I responded yes to. Got a text stating that there was a 12:15 opening, so I called and booked it. Come to realize the text meant that same day, not Friday like was asking for. I was charged the full amount ($80) and was told that they cannot waive the fee. After being a customer for 8 years and referring several coworkers to them, I am taking my business elsewhere. Well I read reviews before going and I was expecting all this bad stuff to have like rude people. Well been there 2 times now and been treated very well. If that's changes I will definitely change my review's Colette French has given me both massages and has been professional and very pleasant. My lower back has been having issues and even when it acted up during the massage she was understanding and patient with me. I'm a large person and Colette is tiny but she had never made me feel our of place or uncomfortable. Let's talk about massage time. Appointment is always on time and between getting ready for massages and getting dressed after the fact the message is 50 plus minutes. Not an issue in my eyes as long as it quality. read more

I was here last week, and wow.. Very good! It was my first time getting massage here, when I went in the mood was very nice. It was calm and relaxing. And when it was for my time, I was immediately moved to a room and the session started right away. The massage lady was very nice, she worked on the places I needed right away. And it's been a long time since my body was that relaxed! I only wish that she would of put more pressure, but other than that it was a very good experience for me! If I could give this place a 0 I would I came in for a post op treatment a lymphatic drainage massage a gal named Katy was the one who was assigned to me I wasn't supposed to sit on my butt but she insisted I lay on it anyway she did light tapping motions with her fingers on my stomach area for the whole 30 minutes then she told me it was time for me to get dressed I paid $110 for an hour not 30 minutes anyway they got over on me I called the place the next day spoke with the manager who was rude af she told me she cannot compensate me for the massage and that I got exactly what I paid for and that I should educate myself on lymphatic drainage massage lol she's a joke I've gotten way better massages that this shithole the post op massages that I've received before this was out of this world so if you want to save yourself a headache and money take it somewhere else other than here fuck this place! read more

Wow I wish I would've read these before I started. I've been coming here about a year, moderate results but I've started feeling like my sessions are more exercise sessions than massages. My appointment was miss-scheduled by the front desk and after being accused of missing my appointment and then demanding the $80 no-show (we're all human and make mistakes) fee immediately, I showed the text proof of their error and was called to reschedule. Due to their mistake (we're all human and make mistakes). I don't feel I should have to pay my co-pay for my next appointment for my inconvenience. After the front desk fiasco, as I see they're behavior is consistent, the owner calls to accuse me of saying I said I hate the front desk (they work hard and they're human and we all make mistakes per her continuous quote) and I'm going to cause a scene at my appointment and all the phone calls are recorded and she heard me say it. Well folks, the results are back and the lie detector test says that's a LIE!! She's a bit crazy it seems because I never said those things and if she had been honest she'd know that. I do understand from talking with the therapists she has forced them to take quite a few things to work there during this COVID ordeal and I'm not sure if that's legal or just weird. It could be the place for you but apparently I'm not allowed to go back because their front desk can't schedule correctly and it inconveniences me. Go figure. read more
