A small little place on the street but one of the best exchange rates in the city when you need Euros or more exotic currency. You really have to look for the money exchange place because you may miss it when you first get there. Its a tiny place and not glamorous but I got better rates than my bank and other money exchanges in NY. At the Somers New York branch a very poor experience with Mahoney as general manager. In cashing a check you usually use your driver's ID and sometimes whether or under form of identification. In her case she wanted social security number telephone number street address and a number of other things and after cashing the check wanted me to return for 80 miles round trip because she forgot to photocopy the driver's license none of which matters because the check was drawn on account that had sufficient funds and the check writer had an account at the bank which electronically you know from the ABA number so I would have to say that now are the incompetent but Mahoney was dishonest because she said a new girl cashed your check and should not have when in reality she was the cashier read more

Good place to get foreign currency at a pretty good rate. I was shopping around for Euro rates for my upcoming Europe trip and this place had the cheapest rate. I recommend going in the morning as oppose to night because they have more denominations (especially in the small bills). If you get more than $300 in currency, they waive the $3 fee. However, there was one thing I did not know before going to this place. If you're a paranoid person like me and don't like giving out social security numbers, I'd recommend you bringing your passport. Because if you only show your driver's license for ID, they will ask for your social security number, and I was not a fan of it at all and I tried to get around it every way I could. Didn't happen unfortunately. If you show your passport, they won't have to put your social security information in the computer. They said they have to do that as a procedure process with the banks. I've been coming here since 2014, usually for EUR and GBY. They do have the best rates, usually 2-3% deviation from live rates. No fee for exchanges over $300, and they are always extra nice to returning customers. One time, I came to do a reverse conversion after a Europe trip, where I caught a cold, and the nice lady behind the counter even offered me cough drops. Now, let me debunk some of silly reviews: * Most currency exchanges ask for ID to confirm your identity before you can exchange currency, in order to prevent money launderers from making a transactions at their store. Why are you complaining about producing an ID? It makes YOU look fishy, not the store. * The store has 1 person working most of the time. They can't attend to your every question immediately. I have always called before going in person and never had a problem from just asking what's the conversion from ABC to XYZ. The phone call lasts 10 seconds. * Rates change throughout the day. I was deciding between this and "best value currency" because of the reviews both had. I submitted a quote and got a 1.3 rate whereas best value quoted me for 1.26.. Google currently has 1.32 so 1.3 is great, especially with no fees. The bulletproof glass made me a little uncomfortable but I understand it's for the staff's safety. There was only 2 staff working, it's a pretty tight place, with 2 open windows to serve. Bineta helped me, she counted the money twice before giving it to me and patiently waited for me to finish counting (i counted three times lol) I live in the neighborhood, and walk by this all the time. Since they weren't able to fulfill the full amount of the exchange I needed for Chilean pesos, I went to another exchange place to exchange the remaining amount I needed and A&S Foreign Exchange Inc (a few blocks away) had a much better rate! Neither place charges a fee when you exchange over $300. I called to ask about their guarantee but they said it was a "free market". And they refused to honor their "best rate" guarantee. This is a shoddy operation. Avoid like the plague The guy demanded my ID after I wanted to trade 1200 dollars for British pounds telling me it's for anti money laundering purposes. Wrote down my ID number and took a photo of the ID I told him I'd be worried about security because they are still using Windows XP. He then tells me if I traded less than 500 he wouldn't need my ID and I told him I'd like to do that and then he gives me this attitude about oh f no I'm not gonna trade you at all now take your money and go if I return it to you. and then he goes into a tirade about how he follows same practices as a bank which is absolutely BS which is a lie. Not bad, you get a reasonable exchange rate. They are quick and nice and not pushy they give you their rate and let you decide. I always got a detailed printout and correct amount. There really is no equal exchange rate, even if you get it from the bank, it is a business. Also, there is one bank begin with an H charged me higher rate for same currency. At $300+ no fee, if you travel often to Europe, great deal. FYI it is not easy to locate, go on weekdays, they close promptly even a little early. read more

I don't know how they make their money. Euro cost $1.29629 today. I bought it for $1.30. They made $3 off me plus $0.003 for every Euro I bought - so umm about $7 was the cost of the transaction.
