Google recommended CXI, and I am so glad it did! I checked CXI's exchange rate and compared it with my local bank rate, and it was no contest. The shop is on Lexington Ave., NOT in the Apple Bank. Although CXI has many locations, including the JFK Airport, I felt more comfortable going to the Lexington Ave. store. Eka was very professional and personable, and when I explained that I had difficulty with the website, she fixed the problem immediately. The last several months have been a whirlwind of events for me and I let time skip by without exchanging dollars to Colombian pesos for my summer '24 trip. I turned to my tried and true TD Bank who had exchanged my dollars to Guatemalan Quetzales in '23 but their guidelines changed recently and couldn't convert because I don't bank with them. I could've waited til I got to Colombia- but I wanted to at least carry some pesos with me and avoid the search there. Lo and behold, hubs dug deep and found these folks with WEEKEND hours AND, you get your currency on the spot without the 2-3 days waiting period. There are other International Currency Exchange locations, but this one was sort of closest to us on 62nd-63rd Sts & Lexington Ave. Do know that you have to cough up some extra dollars for your foreign currency transaction- but it really wasn't a deal breaker. I'll just plan in advance with my own bank and avoid exchange fees next time around. Albina & the rest of the ladies are phenomenal. Did my research on yelp and call ahead of time. They have pretty good hours compared to other places, called morning of just in case. I've heard that Wednesdays are the best days for currency exchange rates, Fridays and the weekends aren't the greatest because the market closes. Wanted Bahamian dollars, but they didn't have any that day & said these would need to be ordered. Only took only 2 days & they called right away. Got a tiny bit more than 1:1 exchange. Their location is very convenient to the N/R/4/5/6 subway station, and Bloomingdale's, on a calm block on Lexington in Upper East Side / Midtown East. They're inside the lobby of Apple Bank. Very clean, quick, nice staff! A couple from Venezuela was getting cash ahead of me, and an older gentleman who 'thought' they were Apple Bank unfortunately- Apple Bank was closed at that time! Highly recommend, will use again! & maybe call a few days ahead to make sure they have the currency that I need. read more

I went there last week before flying out to London for the New York Mets series. It was a last minute situation, where I wanted to grab some pounds for the trip because I knew the airport rates would be a little exorbitant. To my surprise, the rates there were very close to the ones online, and so it was about as fair as exchange as possible. The employee, Natalia, was extremely pleasant, helpful, and patient with me and I greatly appreciated her help and conversing with her. I feel like an idiot. I thought that because CXI was associated with AAA, it would be fair, and I trusted this company without checking. I was also excited that there was only a $15.00 shipping fee, which seemed reasonable considering that money was being transported. I received the money as promised, so I can't complain about that. But the exchange rate.... I should have checked. I paid $275.00 US to get IDR for my trip to Bali, but received the equivalent of $234.00 US. I ordered $100.00 in Vietnam Dong and received the equivalent of $60.00 US. I would have been so much better off using the ATM in those countries. Lesson learned. read more

This is a small kiosk-size stand for exchanging money, located inside Apple Bank, on the left as you walk in. I tried to place a delivery order on their website, but it errored out, so I switched it to pick-up at this branch. Smooth and efficient (not counting the website that is). I didn't use the Yelp check-in discount since an online reservation apparently gives you the same discount. Rate for USD to EUR was about 6% above the Bloomberg rate, or 8.5% including the exchange fee. That's good enough for me. Much better rate than airports or hotels. Banks might have lower rates, but banks are a waste of time. My bank won't tell me which branches have currency exchange services, either online or over the phone, and I'm not going to visit 10 branches just to save a few bucks. Plus CEIFX is open later and on weekends. Rates do change daily. They note that on the website. Reserving for pick-up just ensures that the currency you want is available; it doesn't lock in the rate. read more

"Don't trust me, trust the computer" - Teller. Thought that was a cute quip. If you check-in on yelp, you get a 50% discount on the exchange fee, which amounts to $5. It's not much but enough for expensive iced coffee down the block, so treat yourself, you deserve that expensive coffee. Exchange went as expected. "I have lovely dongs (Vietnamese currency) and I'd like to exchange for US dollars." Five minutes later I was down the block drinking some well deserved coffee. read more

Yesterday evening, I visited the exchange bureau and wanted to convert 940 Euros to dollars. They offered me 928 dollars, even euro is more valuable than the dollar. Then, I got my money back and visited another place and got 986 dollars, which is 58 dollars more than this place. The exchange rate (currency rate) of this place is really awful. Go and find another place. I never recommend this place. read more

I had read the previous good reviews here about CXI and I can now add to them. I wanted to buy some British pounds to make sure I had some cash on hand for an upcoming late night arrival in London. Signed in on Yelp ahead of time for the 50% discount on the exchange fee, but Eka at the desk kindly waived the fee entirely. Exchanged $500 into Israeli money. When we tried to make purchases, we were informed that some of the money was in old shekels. Not only didn't stores except the money, but none of the several Israeli banks we tried would accept the old shekels. Currency Exchange should know that these bills were worthless for us and, based on our experience, is not recommended as a place to exchange money. read more

In addition to the Exchange rate there are different commissions for different amounts of money exchanged: 3$ for less than 200USD worth of exchange, 5$ for less than 500USD and 10$ for more, so you might want to consider exchanging exactly the maximum of a certain level. read more

Researching currency exchanges is so stressful. You're always trying to get the best rate and it seems EVERYONE has a different opinion on when and where you should go. I was heading to Asia for a two week trip which would require two different types of currencies. From my research, the best deal is usually when you withdraw at an ATM in the country itself, but what if you need currency on arrival for cabs, a bite to eat, etc? Some airports offer horrendous deals, while others are equivalent to the bank. I contacted a few exchanges around NYC and this place gave me the most prompt response via message and when I called. They had the amounts I needed in the currencies I needed (Thai Baht and Singapore Dollar). It was quick and seamless to exchange the money, and I was in and out in a matter of minutes. I will say, when I traveled to the countries I was going to, the exchange rate there at those exchanges were better, significantly so. But compared to the airport? Probably the easiest, cheapest, and most efficient currency exchange I've ever had! First of all, the fees are totally reasonable. I felt like I was getting a fair price every time I heard the fee structure, unlike how angry you feel at airports and with some other exchange places when you find out the fees. No surprise or hidden charges either. I went in for some cash, but the woman working there, Jane, talked with me about where I'm going in Europe and showed me their new chip debit cards. Last time I was over there, I had tons of problems with my chip-less bank card - and this is a great solution. Thanks for showing me the card, it's going to make things like buying train tickets way easier. Jane also walked me through the process of exchanging money back when I return. Super simple.
