This is the first time I have been thrilled walking out of a salon in Nashville & I've paid an embarassing amount of money searching. One of the only times I didn't get in the car (color and/or cut), "re-fix" it, or pony-tail it so I felt like "me" instead of some strangers version of me and this was on the first visit. I worked in the salon/spa industry for many years & literally cried many times with people who were the "best" so heed my experienced words regardless of what type of hair you have. For all of you with textured, "challenging" hair (you know who you are) Unruli is for you and understand the weight with which I say this. I was there for hours due to the time I needed for both cut & color services and saw beautiful results going out the door the whole time by all service providers. More info below on what I witnessed and who did my services. First up-I always recommend scheduling a complimentary consult before booking an appointment so you can feel things out. I had a schedule conflict this time so went in without the pre-consult & was scared b/c that is usually non-negotiable part of the process for met. Second--at pre-book; it was a great sign to me that they were a salon that "departmentalizes" cuts and color--meaning you don't have the same person doing both but they work together on your consult (which you should ALWAYS have solid before scissors or mixing bowls come out). Trust me--someone who is great and passionate about cuts is not often equally skilled or excited about doing color and vice versa. Allowing someone to "specialize," focusing their skills, education, and knowledge + do what they love and are awesome at lends to most the most positive outcomes. I witnessed this at Unruli throughout my time in the chair with all service providers. These women and men were happy and it was "real" happy--not going to get in my car and fix it again or fake it & it was a mix of obviously established and new clients. Terra did my cut & Jenna my color & style. Cut: They do dry cuts which may be new for some but trust--better r to see your hair in its natural state. You see what you're getting without the "surprise" of the style when it dries and it helps you get the end result you are wanting (easy to ask questions, personalize and give feedback, and get tips on your styling so you can do it yourself). Terra was skilled and meticulous--and a lovely person to meet as well. The consult was well-conducted and left us on the same page although I had the feeling if I had said "do whatever you want" I would have walked out happy and "myself"--her "read" skills are that good. Don't let her youth fool you--this girl knows what she is doing and I am a tough critic. Color: Jenna is simply one of the best colorists I have ever encountered in my life--this girl is a star in every regard. I have no doubt she'll be on the Aveda global team in the future and am thankful for us in TN that she has obligations that limit travel-- otherwise they'd be snatching her up and sending her all over the world teaching others what seems to come so naturally to her. She took the time to thoroughly review photos and asked ALL the right questions to ensure we worked together & results met expectations. Her styling was phenomenal. I've never gotten so many compliments or felt this beautiful in years--maybe ever. They have things to work on to be stellar in areas unrelated to direct services. Other than offering Comforting Tea they didn't really engage in any of the value-added signature mini-services/treatments that Aveda lovers have come to expect like; hand massage, lip color touch-up before you go, quick eye rejuvenation treatments, etc. that allow an added experience and product sampling at the same time (that so often makes you buy too). They didn't have a few items I wanted to purchase in stock (key makeup items/colors, personal blends, singular notes/essential oils) that I count on from Aveda. However, when the service level is that stellar...these things are simply their retail sales opportunities not taken when I would have happily purchased from them vs. the Aveda store or on-line. Overall--I recommend this jewel of a salon to any hair type/state/desire and encourage anyone from Nashville or beyond to make the journey to Franklin & Unruli. Based on what I witnessed and my experience--this is the most technically & interpersonally skilled salon in TN with regard to hair services! read more

Let me start by saying I have difficult hair to work with. My texture is coarse, my hair is dry, its naturally curly, yet just like everyone else I'd like to have that "victorias secret runway" hair ....honestly, who doesn't? I have had just about every treatment you can think of...I moved to Tennessee a year ago and used to fly back to Chicago to get my hair done. I went to Mario Tricocci there...they may have a great reputation, but from personal experiece, they don't care at all about the integrity of the hair. My hair was ruined after repeated visits to the salon...I then visited Maxine downtown Chicago, which is a Kerastase institute...I left paying a nice penny for my hair which looked just "okay" ....One day I was reading about a Brazilian Blowout and decided I wanted to find a salon here in Nashville or Franklin that I could become a regular at. I was nervous about the treatment as I thought it would give me flat/lifeless hair with no volume...but I thought I would give it a try because the better and better the technology of irons gets, the flatter they seem to make my hair....I happened to find Unruli on the internet based on their great reviews and thought I'd give it a try. I met Uli, the owner, and instantly knew I wanted him working on my hair. He is professional and stays on top of his education and this is very apparent from the time you meet him. I was so impressed I came back that night (that morning was just for a consultation) and received a kerafusion blowout. Now I can just blowdry my hair and walk out the door. Its amazing. I used to be the girl who would schedule my workouts around my hair because it would take me so long to do that I didn't want to ruin it by working out. Now I can be the girl that washes her hair real quick at the gym even with a cheap conair dryer and it looks great....The only thing I was no longing for was my long hair back. Uli sat me down and talked to me about a type of extension that lets your hair grow out healthy and that feels weightless. I thought this was too good to be true because I went to a professional in Chicago for extensions back in 2009 and they were miserable. Extrememly high maintenance and it was even hard to comb my hair let alone style it....I trusted Uli to do the extensions and I have NEVER been so happy with my hair. EVER. It is long, weightless, and low maintenance. I know it sounds too good to be true, but if you're looking to make your hair longer, or even your short hair fuller, you need to go visit Unruli. Let's face it - for a woman, hair is pretty much everything! I have wanted to see Uli at Unruli (Aveda Salon) in downtown Franklin for several years and finally took the plunge today. SO glad I did! I actually called the salon to just get some information and the receptionist invited me to come by and talk with Uli for a complimentary consult. I ended up getting a Brazilian Blowout and am so excited to actually have shiny hair again! Never thought that would happen at 49! My husband says I look ten years younger :-). Uli took so much time with me, while tending to several clients at the same, and clearly, everyone was relaxed, felt cared for and enjoying their time at Unruli and with Uli. I felt like he really "gets" my hair and totally affirmed my desire to try some thing new. We have just moved to Franklin from Washington DC and this was my first visit to a salon in Franklin and thank goodness I found Unruli. Tara cut my hair and Jenna was my color specialist. WOW, I am very impressed to say the least. I arrived with a nasty cut from DC, lackluster color and left with a great cut and fantastic color and had a great time. Lovely salon, nice people and I didn't find them expensive at all, when compared to DC for a cut and color that was awful. The team were attentive, the products are brilliant and my hair feels amazing. Tara - great job, love the cut! Jenna - you rock, the color is amazing. I have dealt with wild and crazy, curly and frizzy hair my entire life. I've tried EVERYTHING, and I mean EVERYTHING. I moved to Franklin a year and a half ago, and I found Unruli. My life has literally been changed. Not only did they try to work with my hair and understand it before deciding what treatment would be best, but they really actually talked to me about what it was I wanted. I am a fan for life of Unruli. They really care about the integrity of my hair and wanted to keep working with it even after I had my first Brazilian Blowout to make it even better. I LOVE IT!!!!! That's what i kept saying after having my hair colored by Jaelynn at Unruli. I was really nervous about having my hair colored at a new salon, because lets face it ladies , we are never sure whether or not we are going to get a stylist that is going to "get" it. From the minute I was greeted at the door, I felt at ease, and welcomed. Jaelynn not only listened, but asked me questions and I was amazed at how she took everything I said and transformed my hair into a beautiful mane! I have been going to Unruli for about 2 years now. Uli cuts my hair, and I am always very happy with the results. I just got my third Kerafusion treatment and am super excited about that as well. I'm kind of a tomboy and I don't like to have to do much to my hair but I still want it to look great. With Kerafusion, all I have to do is wash and condition my hair and apply a little product and let it dry naturally and it looks great. If I do want to style it more, the time it takes to blowdry is significantly less. I have also been able to grow my hair longer and go longer between haircuts. I have a busy stressful job, and my morning routine is much simpler now and that has made my life a lot easier. I would highly recommend a Kerafusion treatment! read more

First of all, I love Franklin because it is so historical and beautiful. As if it could have gotten any better, I found Jaelynn who gets my color right everytime and so it did! Now, I REALLY love Franklin. I travel from Nashville for her to do my color. I have had 6 different people in Nashville try to do my hair and 3 out of the 6 times it was a disaster. I have blonde hair and it is so hard to find a GOOD colorist who knows what they're doing when it comes to blonde. She is so sweet and actually listens to what I want and then follows through with an amazing result!! I LOVE her work! You won't be disappointed if you go to Jaelynn. Customer service is awesome. They really do pay attention -- and they make you feel like a rock star. The atmosphere was relaxing and still very stylish. The wash was more like a scalp massage. I actually forgot Lucy was washing my hair. The stylists had great attention to detail and even considered the kind of care I'd be willing to put into my hair on a daily basis when deciding on a style. At one point there were 2 stylists working on my hair, which made me feel like a celebrity. This is the first time my hair has been straight (not wavy) since 1994 -- so major kudos to these guys. Uli put to rest the years that I thought (and was told) that my hair is thin an too straight with no body. I had to keep my hair short because of this. Then I went to Uli...my hair is back to its natural color, I wear ir straight and it is down to my shoulders. I admired women with shiny hair and for a reasonable cost I get a keratin treatment periodically. It's amazing how much better I feel about myself...and my hair is shiny!!My hair helps make me feel up-to-date. I am a 6-year loyalist to Unruli, having been consistently happy with my cuts and Brazilian blowouts by Uli and vibrant, shiny color by Jenna, but this week I was thrilled to learn that threading is now offered. Jenna did my color on Thursday, and while at the shampoo bowl, I was happy to see a new service had been added...threading.
