This is a beautiful salon. It's in a great location and the people were nice. Biggest issue was that I think for textured or ethnic hair, this may not be a fit. The stylist I was working with had difficulty with my blowout and had to start over and then get someone over to help her and I left with my hair, looking worse than it did when I walked in. I had let them know when I made the appointment that I had textured hair, in hopes that that would help with picking a stylist and time allocation. My experience with them was quite some time ago so it's possible that they have improved since that time. read more

Overrated! You pay very high prices for 20-something stylists who experiment on your hair! I tried to like it. I go every 3 weeks for color and am worth keeping happy. After leaving with BRIGHT red hair because they didn't have time to fix it, I came back 2 days later and had to pay to have it corrected. Believe me that was the last time! Lesson: if you want to look like the tattoo covered stylists you are in the right place. If not, move on. That said there are some lovely people who work there and I love the hand massage. I asked a friend of mine where she gets her hair done because she always has super cute, fantastic looking hair. She told me which stylist at Unruli cuts her hair. I quickly checked out Yelp, and booked an appointment. For the price and the hype I expected to be thrilled - and pampered. I will spare her the embarrassment of naming her, but my stylist never showed up for our appointment! Giving Unruli credit for their customer service, the owner of the salon, Uli, did rescue the situation and he offered to cut my hair - and for a significant discount. His cut was great! I am going to say that perhaps it was the whole strangeness of the situation with my "no-show stylist" that had everyone a little confused, but no one ever washed my hair (they dry cut there) so even though they curled it after the cut (my "styling") I had flat hair less than 3 hours later and had to wash and restyle my hair that afternoon prior to meeting my fiance for dinner. So, yes, I got a great haircut. And, ultimately that is what you want when you go to a salon. But, for a higher end salon with high end prices I really expect the "whole package" and I was disappointed by having to come home and redo my hair. It was a very confusing overall experience. Not sure if the cut alone is enough to pull me back. I've just perused Yelp and am trying a new salon tomorrow. read more

I went in for a hair cut with Uli (and got a keratin treatment too-both AMAZING btw) and left with what felt like extended family. I can't begin to tell you how incredible the people at this place are. I believe just about every employee there made it their mission to come speak to me while I was there. The whole team truly made me feel special and welcome. It's one thing to go into a salon with expectations of a great haircut because it's a salon of high caliber, but what I wasn't expecting was the true sincerity, and genuine care I received at the same time. Good for your hair AND your soul. I learned that Uli has an incredible heart for those less fortunate as he is single handedly creating jobs and sets up training resources for those who would otherwise not have that opportunity. So, three months later, I can say honestly that I am STILL happy with my cut and brazilian blowout from Uli. I was so impressed at the time I got my mom a gift certificate and she was thrilled as well. I finally found an amazing salon! We moved to Franklin from Los Angeles nine months ago. I tried a few salons before coming here. I was so unhappy with my color and cut with these other salons. I was starting to fear that I would have to wait until we visited Los Angeles to get my hair done again, until I found Unruli! This salon is so wonderful. I have had my hair colored three times by Frazier. Not only is he such a sweet, fun, caring person, he is also amazing with color. I came to him with way too much bleach in my blonde hair. He mixed many colors together and gave me such a beautiful, natural looking blonde, that is so much more flattering to my eyes and skin tone. He is truly an artist. I have the amazing Uli, the owner of the salon, cut my hair. It is the best hair cut I've had in at least 10 years. He knew how to tame my very thick and coarse hair with beautiful layers that fall just right around my face and shoulders. He gave me a cut that is low maintenance, easy to style and I feel beautiful. He gave me a Brazilian Blow out last week, and I must say it is the best thing I have ever done for my hair. He is a magician! I can't believe what a difference it has made in my hair. It cut my drying time in half and it is so silky and smooth. Even my young sons noticed a big difference. Everyone that has frizzy, coarse, thick hair should be required to have this amazing service. I truly have straight silky, easy to manage hair like I did when I was a kid! Uli (the owner) is a life-saver!! Another local salon botched my haircut--badly. I thought the damage was irreparable, but one of my girlfriends' recommended I go see Uli at Unruli...he's a genius. There is some good and some bad with the Unruli Salon. I'll start with the good. Uli does the best haircuts that I have ever had. they are wonderful. I had a pretty drastic haircut done. Went from very long hair to pretty short. Took a picture in to Uli of what I wanted and that's exactly what I got and it looked fantastic. I recommend Uli to anyone who wants the best haircut ever. The bad - I've had horrible experiences with quite a few of the other stylist he has at the salon. I don't trust anybody there but Uli. I've had to have my color completely done over twice. They offered to fix it a third time but I didn't want to make the 45 minute trip back to the salon, so I just lived with the color until I needed to have it done again. I've had at least 4 colorist do my hair, including some of the best they have there and it's hit or miss. I never know what I'm going to get. Sometimes I love it and other times, as I said, it has to be completely done over again. I can say that they did my color and cut free after the first catastrophe, but not the 2nd and 3rd. I hate searching for new salons. I stuck with Unruli for about 2 years, but now I'm searching reviews online looking for something new. I'm going to miss Uli but hopefully I'll be able to find another salon that is more consistent with their services. read more

I had gone to this salon for 2 years. I took my daughter there and have spends hundreds of dollars. I was there this past February getting my hair colored for my Valentines date with my husband. I had ask for light blonde high lights and some fun pink tips just for Valentines. Let me mention I have never put colors like pink in my hair. So this was a risk already! I thought I could trust the girl doing my hair So as she is pulling the foil out of my hair I notice it is dark!! Now, as a blonde when your see dark on you it is scary!! So I thought ok I will wait till she washes all the product out. Nope, still dark!! The pink tips were lavender and they looked like Kool-aid stains!!! My heart went into panic mode!! She dried it and it looked horrible!! I looked at her and said," what did you do?" You just made it darker and the ends are horrible!! She was speechless and I was about to cry! She offered to fix it the next day but there was NOWAY I was letting her touch my hair again! The next day the head stylist offered to fix it by saying he would squeeze me in between other colors! Noway!! He needs to give me full attention and fix my hair!! So I tried to schedule another time with him and the snow storm hit and I tried again and he was always to busy!! So to wrap this up I told the girl I was not coming back and have I received a call yet to ask why or I am sorry or we care about your business?? No!! I was so hurt bc I had to look like this for 2 weeks before I could fine someone I trusted . They have made my hair so dark it will take 3 color treatments to get it to where I want it! So in the end it will cost me 2x's the expense as if they would have just done it right the first time!! I would not recommend getting your hair colored at this salon!! read more

When I first went to Unruli salon, my hair was a mess. I had been getting a terrible cut, (even though it was expensive) and my color was mediocre. Housed in a Victorian home it provides a very comfortable yet clean and professional environment. Jamie was my stylist and i cant say enough good about her. Management is either horrible or the front desk girl, Emily, is a liar and should be fired. I've been a loyal customer to Aveda for 20 years from Chicago to Nashville and this is the worst run salon I've ever been to. They offer you a $10 referral fee, but when you try to claim it on your next appointment, Emily will make up new rules, disqualifying you for the referral. Recent example, I referred my stepson, then my own son. Emily said "children don't count". Ok, then I referred my stepdaughter (she's 16 & pays full price for haircut, color & products), Emily said "family didn't count". I referred my friend, Emily said "they no longer offer referral discounts". WTF?! When I asked to speak to a manager, Emily said "she just left for lunch". I received an email 2 days after my recent visit about reviewing my experience and an offer for $10 in referrals, again, WTF?! I called to speak to the manager (Emily answered) and of coarse the manager was on vacation. I called back the following week (Emily answered) and got disconnected, twice!! Unruli will not get a dime of my money or any more referrals from me. Not to mention that Jenna doesn't get the concept of ombré hair as I have 2, not 3, distinct colors in my hair. It goes from my natural dark blonde to left over hi lights from 8 months ago & no variation in between. Tara cuts hair good, takes her time the first 2 times, but then seems too busy to wash & dry & style your hair after she does a dry cut after that. I was working in Nashville and needed my haircut desperately. I promised my regular stylist that I would stop getting my haircut by random people while traveling for work I should have stuck to this promise :( I made my appointment at Unruli based on the reviews that I read what a HUGE mistake. As others have mentioned in the Yelp reviews this salon is overpriced for stylists that are experimenting on your head! I sat in her chair explained what I was hoping to accomplish and asked that she only use scissors since I have curly hair NO RAZORS etc assured me that she understood. Apparently she didn't because at some point she pulled out thinning shears which I have come to find out is a razor effect - WORST HAIRCUT I have ever had. Once the panic subsided I called my salon at home and told them I needed to get in ASAP. Again, I promised my stylist that I will never pick a random salon while traveling and have my haircut.
