So my horse came up lame, I talked to the vet through text about what to do etc. long story short I…read moreasked if she could come "put eyes on him" after 3 days of no improvement. She said "I'm right down the street I can come on my way back to the office and just look at him for you" I told her I had to work and couldn't be there then. She said she could come anyway and she'll call me when she gets there. She wound up doing all these crazy tests, X-rays, blocks, advanced blood work, sonogram etc etc. The bill wound up being $1500!!!!! I NEVER authorized ANY of these tests I was also charged $400 for an "emergency " visit which I wasn't told before hand. I literally JUST wanted her to look at him, maybe give some meds and call it a day. (My horse just needed some rest and was completely fine in a week fyi. ) The billing woman Michelle called me every week to get a payment which I was unable to pay considering I had just lost my fiancé to cancer and was trying to find my footing still AND even said to me "you can't pay this bill and you own a horse" ummm HOW DARE SHE! Not only was she rude over and over but I SHOULD NOT have to pay this bill! At least if she knocked off some money maybe I'd feel better about it but nope! I've worked for vets for over 16 years and we would NEVER do ANY tests or anything like that without getting authorization from the owner FIRST! Now they're sending me to collections! Needless to say IM VERY UNHAPPY and EXTREMELY UPSET! Just be careful

They lost their new vet after just a few months and the remaining vets seem checked out. I will try to remain on good terms because everyone needs a large clinic who will do emergency calls if need be, and Rhinebeck won't come to my area for just 2 horses, but I am avoiding them if I can.

I used BAH years ago once but because of their prices I switched to another vet. The other day I…read moresent my younger brother there because it is much closer to us, and since he is new to the area, I didn't want him driving the longer distance to our regular vet. My mistake... After seeing the bill for services, which I felt was excessive in price and scope, I drove to the office where, as I was explaining my dissatisfaction to the receptionist/assistant, another customer began to chime in with, at first just her disagreement with what I was presenting, then later a verbal assault on me. I asked the lady to please refrain, I asked the receptionist/assistant to please have the other customer sit down since this wasn't her animal, but those requests were to no avail. It was obvious that the other customer likes BAH and that's all fine and dandy, but I prefer to discuss my issues with the staff, not the customers. The receptionist/assistant did nothing to stop this woman from using profanity and other derogatory language towards me. I would have liked nothing more than to give it back, but when you are the man in a situation like that, you will always be the bad guy. So I waited as the receptionist finally went and got the office manager, who I believe as another reviewer mentioned, is the doctor's wife. When she arrived she escorted me and my brother to another room where we discussed the billing questions and the front desk issue. In the end, the bill was credited for medications, etc. that I believe I can find elsewhere much less expensive. As I have two other dogs, I know that I have bought similar medications for less. Maybe not the exact brand so I cannot say that any particular brand they may not be cheaper and I will leave it at that. As for the front office issue I was given their apologies but to me the damage is done. I will never again set foot in that office and I would recommend to anyone who is considering using this facility to make sure you have looked at all others in the area before making your decision. Save yourself some grief. I wish I had stuck with my initial assessment and saved some grief for both myself and my brother. Edit 7/26/2013: Got contacted tonight by a new Yelp member who took an unusual amount of concern with my review. I can only guess, but that guess is that she is somehow associated with the animal hospital. Maybe, maybe not. I have heard from owners and managers in response to my review before but this was a bit over the top. Anyway, I stand by my review and if anyone wants to discuss it further, feel free to drop me a line. PS: I wonder if the other folks who wrote less than glowing reviews got the third degree from this person. For someone who only joined this July and with zero reviews of her own she sure had no problem writing several messages of several paragraphs each. Not really typical of the average Yelp review feedback I have seen. Edit 9/22/2013 I received yet another comment from someone who took exception to my review. They accused me on not being able to afford the care at BAH. Well, that's certainly not the case, and anyone who knows me can vouch for the fact that money isn't an object when it comes to the care of my animals.

Three weeks later, NO communication and we heard NOTHING. Unfortunately, the shelter called us and said they messed up our application and gave the cat away to someone else. Huh?? BUT they said they have a new litter coming in and to check them out. Ok great. We check out the new litter and . Two out of the five were already adopted somehow, despite getting the cats literally an hour ago. They didn't have name tags out and they weren't even set up yet. HOW?! There was one I really liked. Once again, I asked if the cat was available and they said yes. I told them I'll apply. I also called the shelter to make sure and yup the cat is available. Not even 5 minutes later, they called me back and were like "yeah.... Sorry, that cat is already adopted too." I get a call later at night from the friends I put as references telling me the shelter talked to them for application but sounded disorganized. At this point, there is no cat we applied for that was available, as both of them went to other families. Who were they calling for?! It's extremely sketchy. Finally, they called us AGAIN and told us to come in one more time. We gave up at that point, but went just for the hell of it, once again, basically all the cats are adopted already. They instructed us to go to their actual shelter (this was all PetSmart) and we were like NOPE. I refuse to give these irresponsible people money. I hope the animals have great care because this place cannot be trusted. HORRIBLE experience, AVOID and go somewhere else.

Our daughter had the car, so I called Dr. Barbara MacMullan and she came over after she was done working her day job, at a local Vet's office. For $50 she did a full exam, weighed our cat, clipped his nails, examined his ears, eyes and mouth and talked to us at length about the options. We didn't want to lance the abscess because it was so close to the eye, so she prescribed amoxicillin. Two days later our cat was on the mend. We didn't have to take him anywhere! No stress. And a $10 savings from going to the Vet. A Vet who makes house calls is great. A Vet who makes thorough house calls and follows up is amazing. And Dr. MacMullan definitely falls into the latter category. :)
