After our 90 minute session at Georgetown, I was left feeling violated, uncomfortable, more tense, and in pain. I had very high hopes for this place, as I had an amazing experience at the Adams Morgan location that left my boyfriend and I feeling rejuvenated. We got a normal 90 minute couples massage. I am a female and had a male massage therapist. He asked where I would like him to focus on me, and I said the left side of my lower back. My lower back was at best grazed over for a second during these 90 minutes. He spent a lot of time going into my neck, upper traps, and next to my spine. The cushion where my face was resting kept moving and I had to keep adjusting it because my chin and cheeks would be pressed against metal. When he would press into my traps my face would slip off the cushion leaving my chin feeling bruised several days later. When massaging my neck and also wiping me with a hot towel, I could feel and hear the hair snapping out. He rotated my torso to stretch me and I almost fell off the bed completely. He asked me to turn over and checked his phone right above my face and said, "oh, 90 minutes?" and the other massage therapist working on my boyfriend began flagging him down. I realized my boyfriend was prone a lot longer than me. When he'd massage my legs he would expose both at the same time and shoved the sheet up my crotch when I was prone and supine. While supine, he massaged up my thigh so high his thumb would go under my underwear repeatedly and the sound of the garter snapping back still haunts me. He kept telling me to just relax because I kept tensing up. When my arms would come out from under the sheet, he would lift the sheet up, exposing me, and put my arms back. These two things should have never even happened for me to feel violated in this way. He massaged my feet for a while, and then massaged my face and head and I thought it was very gross to touch my feet and go directly to my face. He pressed into my scalp so hard it felt like it was going to open, and I told him it was painful and he chuckled and asked if it's too much pressure. He pressed into my brows and downwards into my eyes so hard it hurt my eyes. I have gold rings in my daith and rook and he put his fingers inside my ears and then folded my ears over and pulled them really hard. My boyfriend's massage was over, and mine began massaging my pecs. I just hoped my boyfriend enjoyed his because I hated every second of mine. He too did not enjoy his massage at all. When we finished, the woman at the front desk was very sympathetic and did not have us pay after seeing how distraught I was trying to explain how uncomfortable the entire experience was for me. The owner called us about 10 minutes later and apologized and asked me what happened. He prefaced our conversation with telling me had tried to reach my partner, but he didn't answer, but he never received a call from him. I didn't even get to explain it all, and he told me I should have responded differently and that it was a lack of communication on mine and his massage therapist's end and said he had never heard of complaints about him and that he's so great that he has a waiting list and asked me if I wanted him to fire him. He asked if he could call me again the following day, and he did call me two days later apologizing and trying to get me to come try a new massage therapist and said he didn't want to lose our business. I will not be returning to either location and will be encouraging everyone to also not support this business. We were both left in more pain and discomfort physically and emotionally after our service. Our massage therapists were Andy and Power. read more

What a dream! My sister gave me a gift certificate for a massage for my birthday, and today I finally used it. This was the perfect start to my Saturday in Georgetown! They were fantastic with accommodating me even after I had changed my appointment...three times, embarrassingly enough. I originally booked online for 10:15, then my sister changed it to 10:00 so we could have ours done at the same time, then the day-of I was running late, but thankfully they were able to give me the 10:15 spot again. I really appreciated their flexibility and I didn't get any sort of sneer or comment when I walked in, frazzled and feeling guilty. I had Jewel, and she did a fantastic job! Not to sound rude, but I like it when, in a setting like this, there isn't too much small talk, especially during the session. She was very polite, quickly explained the areas she would focus on, and then left to let me undress so we could get started. I'm a little surprised with how sore I am, especially since it was immediately after the massage. I was a bit concerned, but after a quick Google search I learned that soreness after a deep tissue massage is normal. I didn't select deep tissue massage when I booked, but nonetheless it felt great and I feel like so much tension has been released in my back and shoulders! I did a one-hour massage and it was one of the best massages I have ever received! The masseuse targeted all my problem areas leaving them feeling much better than before. The massage was super unique as she stretched my arms, legs, fingers and toes along with the normal Swedish massage. I am so disappointed that I did not receive the same five star experience that the other clients have received. I came here after a relaxing facial at another spa nearby a few minutes early for my appointment . The front desk check in was easy and I was seated in a pretty area and offered warm tea. That's where it all went downhill. I waited for quite a while, and ten minutes later a lady hurriedly walked in from the front door for her shift and said she was going to be right with me. I understand that things happen and was willing to overlook it, but still a bit annoyed no one told me she would be that late. Another almost ten minutes later (20 minutes into the appointment) I was finally allowed in to the room to change and for the massage to begin. I made note that we started 20 minutes late in case she wanted to end my 90 minute session early. Instead of reading the form I filled out, asked me what I wanted to focus on and I told her mostly neck and lower back (it's been killing me) and arms, less legs. She did the exact opposite. She was yanking my legs around until I told her it was uncomfortable and I simply couldn't stretch that much. When I flipped on my back, I found it odd she hadn't even touched my lower back but thought maybe she has a method and would come back to it. When my time seemingly was running out I asked her to please at least quickly still focus on my aching lower back. And her answer was that I hadn't told her. Then she read the paper and said oh you wrote it but you never said it (I 100% did). During that time, I asked her if it was really only 1:45 (what the electric clock in the room said) as our time had started at 1pm. She said yes and that we started at 12pm. I told her we started at 1:20 and if we really had been here for half an hour (felt clearly longer) to just shorten it to 30 more minutes. After some confusion, and instead of checking the time elsewhere she continued for what felt like a torturous 30 minutes. I just couldn't wait for it to be over and had I known it was already 1.5 hours I would have just stopped it, aching lower back and all. For a $200 massage, the entire ambiance was awful. The music was too loud (she offered to leave the room to turn it down). During the entire massage there were loud employees speaking and almost yelling right outside the door and banging a nearby door open and shut the entire time. I told her it was so loud and she said that the employee room was nearby (it was just a few inches from the room I was getting massaged). At one point she opened the door and must have mentioned something to them. Then there's a loud male client almost yelling at the waiting room near the massage area. I should also note that I paid an extra 15$ for an aromatherapy experience that only had me sniffing it at the beginning from her hands and at the end. There was no "experience" throughout the session whatsoever. Someone lightly knocked on the door and I guess told her she was going into 2 hours. We got to the front and she was a bit frazzled and told me I needed to pay for 2 hours but the front desk ladies said 1.5 were fine, pretty annoyed at what seemed to be at me. FYI, I'm not in charge of the time, and I suggest fixing their electric clock with the wrong time on it. I paid and just wanted to get the hell out of there. The whole experience past the waiting room area just didn't feel like a traditional relaxing spa like experience but more of a Thai massage for Georgetown spa prices. For a $170 massage, I should not have walked out feeling more agitated and tense than when I walked it. I've had plenty of massages in my adult life, and this fell on the bottom of the totem pole. Needless to say, I won't be returning after that experience. read more

I visited Unwind on Monday, 1/29 for a facial with Alia...wow. I have facials on regular basis but this was a great experience. First, the physical space of the Spa is really beautiful, elegant and serene. The second thing is the staff is professional, hospitable and unassuming. Third, Alia who really is one of the best aesthetician I have ever visited. She customized my facial, I had breakouts, dry skin and other stuff. I had a recent horrible experience at Georgetown Unwind. This was previously my only spa of choice, and I bought all of my colleagues and partners massages here. However, yesterday I was treated horribly by the manager after wanting to discuss a late fee. I bought my work colleague and myself a massage that my colleague emailed and called to reschedule for the next day after a work emergency. I was charged $100 late fee per the policy but later told if I hadn't made the appointment in advance, I wouldn't have been charged. I was also told before the visit, that my case would be investigated for merit, only to be told it didn't have any merit despite being an honest emergency Additionally, my colleague was informed over the phone that the charge would be removed when we came in for our massage. I only wanted to discuss the charge or have a credit toward my next appointment. I've spent hundreds and hundreds of dollars at this spa and now will never be back. Lastly, I was told there was no one I could talk to or discuss my issues with. There are too many options to be treated with such indifference and a lack of respect as a repeat customer. This has become my go to location for me to unwind after a stressful week. It all started with a gift certificate for my birthday, I booked the mini facial and a detox body wrap. I was able to book online which for me worked out great. Upon arrival I was immediately greeted offered a refreshment . Oliver did my detox wrap explained everything to be made sure I was comfortable and treated me like royalty lol. The ambiance was relaxing the music soothing, I was than given a wonderful robe which I didn't want to take off because it was so warm and soft !!! Took a shower shower heads felt amazing! I than had a facial done by Ebony she asked what my concerns with my skin were and customized the facial to cater my concerns , and gave recommendations afterwards and as to what my next service should be . Upon completion I was given a wonder cupcake and a glass of champagne for my birthday . On my second trip I brought my sister along and booked a massage. Danielle was wonderful catered to my Sciatic nerve , she combined a relaxing and deep tissue massage it was amazing, the room , the soothing music and the masseuse you could not ask for more . Wonderful spa with excellent service! We ended a bachelorette weekend with a trip to this spa. Unwind was so accommodating to our group! I was able to book an appointment the day before, for 8 ladies to receive hour long massages... UNREAL! I had another session with Yelena today, and she is my new addiction. I was in a lot of of pain before I found Yelena. I have a very physically demanding job and I also love to work out, which yields the perfect equation for sore and tight muscles. After the first session, my whole body felt so relaxed and my muscles were no longer tight. I just couldn't wait a whole week and ended up scheduling another appointment just a few days after. After my second session with Yelena my back pains have completely disappeared. She uses a combination of techniques that really target pressure points and problematic areas.
