A great diner experience. Incredible breakfast and excellent service - large portion sizes to fill you up.

Had the all you can Eat fish fry on Friday night the first 2 piece came out like warm. And it wasn't to busy at 430 and the waiter came back finally and ask if we wanted more fish got some it was hotter. The waiter was very hard to understand. Seemed like she was caring for other people and kind of forgot us came back once to see if we needed anything. read more

If you enjoy a good steak, stay away from the ribeye. It's maybe a quarter inch thick ( I'm slightly exaggerating ) and unfortunately, mine was overdone the first time and underdone the second. The service I received was lacking a bit. She was pleasant but perhaps this may be a new job for her. The communication just wasn't there. Overall, breakfast just wasn't great. Pasta and meatballs was bland and tenderloin was dry and bread was soggy. Upon entry we greeted rudely. Not worth visiting again.

This small town diner is everything you expect and more. The quality of the food is spot on and you won't see breakfast this cheap anywhere else. This is one of the places I would proudly bring people visiting my hometown (besides JQS of course). I usually get a skillet but today I opted for the classic breakfast with eggs over medium, hash browns, pancakes and bacon. was not expecting much, rural Iowa, downtown has seen better days, but this place delivered. Has the combo skillet as that is what the server suggested. Fresh veggies, crispy hash browns, what more could you ask for. Was very good! Oh, the wait staff is terrific s well. I think breakfast is their thing. read more

The menu here is very large. Based on my sole visit so far, I'll say that I didn't have any issues with my particular selection, but I'll also concede that sometimes overly large menus are a bad thing. I ordered the chopped steak with grilled onions. Came with a veggie, salad, and potato choice. I declined the dinner roll. You also get a dessert option--pudding, ice cream or jello. Not a terrible spread for $10. The steak was somewhat devoid of flavor, but the grilled onions and A-1 helped that out a little. Green beans didn't have any flavor at all--it tasted like ones from a steamer bag with nothing added to make the beans taste better. The American Fries were fantastic! Slightly browned--and a lot of them. I thought it was a nice touch to add whipped cream to the Jello upon request. Service was friendly and my waitress checked back in on me with regularity. I'm back in Vinton at least twice in the next month. I intend to stop in again and order a different menu item. read more

I want to start off by saying a BIG thank you to the waitresses and cooks at the Vinton Family Restaurant. My family came to Vinton to pay our respects to our Dad, who is buried at Mount Auburn and to see our cousins that we haven't seen in years. With limited choices to eat in Vinton, we all found the Family Restaurant very welcoming. Breakfast there every morning and a couple of diners made us pretty popular returning customers. It was a pleasure to meet the staff and my mom got to talk to Roxy, whom she remembered when she grew up in Vinton. The food is all very good with good size portions. If you're there on a night when they have all you can eat Walleye, you will not be disappointed. Thank you again Vinton Family Restaurant, we all hope to eat there again. read more

Big crowd pleaser in small farming community. Greasy food joint cause it's cheap. No real quality ingredients even so the produce could come fresh from the community. Does have attentive and nice service. Salad is an embarrassment to call it such. read more

For what this restaurant is, it's good. A small town restaurant that has a little bit of everything on it's menu, nothing is mind-blowing, but it's good quality and It fills you up. The family (two adults and two teens) went there on Sunday for "brunch". Husband and I both ordered the ribeye breakfast. The steak was tasty, but as most breakfast rib-eyes go, it was a thin cut so don't bother with trying to get a med. rare cook on it. It came with two eggs, a large pancake and a heaping helping of hash browns. (Take that Perkins!) The kids had sandwiches, both came with soup (creamy chicken rice) and fries. Both loved the soup and the fries were nice too. Prices were reasonable and the service was fine. She stopped by multiple times and filled each request. Will be back! read more

My husband and I dine at this place regularly. We have never had anything to complain about. The food is great for the price, and the servers are all pretty decent. My husband generally orders their skillets or fried chicken, while I love their omelettes and hash-browns. read more

I just moved to this town f I'm a larger one. I was impressed with the serving size and the prices. If you walk away hungry , that's all on you. I've had the hot beef,which was excellent,the burgers and most sandwiches come sandwich only or delux with fries and soup. Staff are all freindly, restaurant was always clean, bathrooms were as well. You eat with your eyes first,the plates are refreshing,the cooks good. Yes I'd recommend this place to others,my folks drive 35 min. to enjoy a meal at this restaurant. read more

My wife and I have eaten there 3 times in the last week. We have had various selections and all were very good with very large portions. The service was way above par. In fact I think the service alone is worth the highest rating. I think their salads are super. Nice and fresh lettuce and the meat and cheese was plentiful. The coffee never got a chance to get empty when they came and asked if you needed another cup. This is by far my favorite place to eat. I highly recommend that if you are reading this you should put this on your places to try. read more

Service is above par each time we have visited this restaurant. It had been at least a couple months since prior visit and server remember our daughter orders the Mickey Mouse waffle without whipped cream. My husband and I both had the steak and shrimp special and were pleasantly surprised how good it was. This restaurant is in fine dining but it's really similar to let you would eat at home. We visited a little bit late in the evening and it looks like it could've used some cleaning, but nothing more than a busy night at a restaurant could've caused. We will definitely keep this restaurant in our rotation. read more

Each time our group has met here we have had a really good experience. The food was very good and the service was exceptional. We meet there once or twice a year even though some of us live quite a ways away from Vinton. read more

Upon walking in I saw the fluorescent lighting and the weird carpet and thought "What on earth did I just walk in to?" I sat down and the waitress brought our drinks and menus. I started looking at the menu and I was amazed at the low prices! I got an omelette with hash browns and oatmeal. The waitress patiently answered my questions about calories and if I could have egg beaters instead of eggs and she said "Of course!" And was so nice about. We had a wonderful conversation about my pets and how I had never been to Vinton before. When the food came out I was astonished! The portions were HUGE! I ended up taking half my meal home (which wasn't an issue for me). I would HIGHLY recommend this restaurant. It's not every day you go to a restaurant and get big portions for low prices. We were driving through Vinton and decided to order supper to go. We have never been there and wanted to try it. When I first walked in I immediately noticed food, packets etc. on the floor under several tables but didn't want to have to wait and order supper from somewhere else. I should have because my family couldn't eat supper and we ended up ordering from our local restaurant. Sooo incredibly disappointing, frustrating and expensive to have to order from 2 places in 1 night!! read more
