I've been coming here since Up In Smoke had an under 18 and over 18 side. Staff actually understood their products, could discuss pros/cons of different products, and generally guide you in the right direction. The shop was sold within the last year and the new owners are not people anyone in the community should support with their money. The selection is now made up of a bunch of bargain bin hookah trash that you can buy anywhere. When asking for a pack of common filters, the clerk had no clue what I was talking about and also looked annoyed that I was asking him for something. Overall, the value Up In Smoke used to offer (high quality glass, excellent guidance, and friendly) is gone and has been replaced with what is essentially trash smoke shop. I spent $40 on a Lō Kēy vape battery that I was told would last at least five year and it didn't even last a week. SOOOOO this review has been a LONG time coming. I apologize for my tardiness. Now, this is the closest headshop to me, and Ill tell you right now, its taken over the title of MY headshop. I used to frequent another, but its been a while since Ive been there. With the service, selection, price and SERVICE I get here, why go elsewhere? Up in Smoke has been around for a while, but was a smaller hole in the wall store for most of their existence. This all changed about six or so months ago when they moved down the strip mall. WOW. I would honestly say that theyve easily doubled if not tripled in size. Theyve got such a large assortment of wares that when you first walk in, it may seem overwhelming. Now generally with a store this size, sales people tend to...well, be sales people. When you walk in here, once youre close enough to the counter, they welcome you with a smile, and tell you to basically take your time and call someone over when you need them. Thats the way it SHOULD be done. Their wares include everything from Water pipes, to lighters. Yes, the usual headshop rules apply, and they have a sticker to remind you of it. Are they anal about it? Yes, but its due to the way laws are written, and if you ask about it, they can explain it to you. Full of information and with some people that have been in this industry for 10+ years, thats something that you can trust without the bullshit. I like this, because they DO have some pricey pieces in here. lol. On one of the trips my cousin had purchased a Vector lighter and was told that if ANYTHING happens with it and it doesnt work, bring it in and it will be fixed/replaced free of charge, but it will take a little bit because they have to ship it in. Figuring this wouldnt be used for a while, we said cool. Now, within a week it died and would not light anymore. We took it back in, and they sent it for repairs. Two weeks later the vendor was laggin, and they apologized and made sure to get my cousins number again to let him know when they got it back in. Couple days later my cousin got the call. We went in and picked it up and its working perfect now. Ive taken a few of my cousins here, and all with great success. Even my cousin that DOESNT smoke was impressed with the shop. Like I mentioned earlier, their knowledge is second to none. Its why its become my number one spot for all of my smoking accessories. You will always pick up a new bit of information from EVERYONE here. Even the female that looks like her pictures should be posted on the wall centerfold style...just sayin. Haha. They dont hire anyone based on looks. Atleast thats how it seems, if they do, they do some DAMN good training. Their glass selection is absolutely HUGE. I dont know another store that has this many pieces to choose from. They have bubblers, water pipes, downstems, bowls, spoons, sherlocks, hammers, steam rollers, and almost every other type you can think of. Theyve got all of the brand names as well from Illidelph to Sheldon Black. They also carry a dope selection of sport team themed pieces, so for someone like me thats an extra bonus. When Im able to find Miami Dolphin glass pipes, Im in heaven damnit. Theyve got a ton of shirts from a wide array of places. Band shirts, stoner shirts, Bob shirts, LRG and the list can go on. They also carry skate board decks, lighters, grinders, bags for your glass(If you take your piece out of the house with you, these are AWESOME!) They have tons of papers, screens(Both glass and metal) and high quality butane for the lighters. Ive bought my last three glass pieces here, as well as cases, plus Ive already got the next two that Im buying from yall picked out! Ive taken two of my cousins here for their first piece, and they have both been taught how to buy quality. Little things to look for that you dont normally get told. Little tips and tricks and suggestions are always welcomed when theyre coming from experience and FACT. Overall, if you can find a place with THIS much knowledge, friendly staff, selection and sometimes even price(They dont sell crap) Id go there, but these guys fill all of those needs for me. The clerks here are very rude and snobby. They obviously do not care about the customers. Everything here is over priced and they are just so hard headed. They probably think they are the best shop around and can screw however many people they want. If you care about your hard earn money do not come here. I bought a piece from them for $340 and I came home and found out my nail wouldn't fit it. They refused to give me an exchange and I think that is the most messed up thing that has ever happened to me at a smoke shop. Now I have to sell it on craigslist and loose $100. My boyfriend and I went to Nickel City a few weeks ago and I said we should stop and take a peek in this place. They have everything a smoke shop should have. You name it, they have it. Even though they knew that we weren't looking to buy anything that day, they were still giving us awesome customer service and that's what I like! This place sells products for more than what they are worth. $18 for a puff bar when they sell them for $10 elsewhere. Up N Smoke used to be a good to place now it run by scammers. Update. Decided to give them another chance, I see that they lowered there prices on almost all of products which is a good thing. Bought a puff bar last night immediately opened it and I see it has leaked. They have a great selection. The issue is is they overcharged for everything. You can go to any China smoke shop and get most of their pieces for about 10 to $20 cheaper and their name brand pieces online for sometimes two to three hundred dollars cheaper than they sell them in the store. The new manager Victoria has curtailed the amount of homie hookups and cash discounts they are giving Which was the main way they were able to offset their high prices. I would highly suggest going to The Cave Smoke Shop instead. At least there you know the price they are selling their pieces at is the market rate instead of an inflated rate. If I could give them no stars I would. Owner is passive aggressive and doesn't know the first thing about customer service. Place is a mess. Staff is unhappy. You can hear them complaining about the owner right in front of customers. They have a high turn over for a reason. Glass is over priced, and their ecig department(if you can even call it that) started to look really good but it's back to how it was before, not sure why. okay okay okay, I have alittle joke here with the owner. im a freakin clutz when it comes to some things, and this happens more than i would care to admit, but i break a glass dome on one of my oil rigs at least once every couple of weeks. one time it was really bad, late night, and i broke another one. He is very knowledgeable about the product selection and good about answering the phone so I know exactly what I'm getting before I come in and that it isn't stuff. He has a particular knowledge of the vape supplies as well. Jose has a good sense of humor and is just as helpful with a specialty in the dab rigs and related products. Best selection for glass in San Jose. Awesome customer service. I went in because they carry Illadelph products and I'm from philly so I really wanted and Illadelph. At the time, they only had a few Illadelph options, and they were way out of my price range. The manager was really cool and recommended that I check out a place in San Mateo called the Cave. He said they have a good reputation and also carry Illadelph glass. It was awesome because he didn't try to push me towards another brand, which was wise because I had my heart set on an Illadelph and I probably would have been annoyed. Anyway, I went to the Cave and saw the options for Illadelph in my price range. Nothing really stuck out to me so I made the decision to begin considering other options. I looked at some stuff that they recommended but didn't really care for any of them. I really liked Up in Smoke so I decided to go back and see what else they had. First thing they did was ask me a bunch of questions to get an idea of what I was looking for. They didn't even try to offer me anything until learning a little about me, and then they were able to make a recommendation. I walked out with a beautiful water pipe from Seeds of Life that I will post a picture of. They also gave me and my friend tshirts, and my friend didn't even buy anything. I've been here a few times with questions for information and advice and I can safely say that I have never had a bad time. The first time I came in it was questions about vaporizers and the better quality ones. I spoke with Rob and had a great explanation about the ones that they had, what he recommended and the better ones on the market. He had a lot of good information and advice so that I could make a good, informed decision about what I was going to purchase. He told me a lot of good information, didn't pressure me to buy anything and just talked it out with me and helped me understand everything. It was a great experience and very helpful The second time I came in it was to buy a vaporizer that they carried, I found exactly what I wanted (in the right color) and left very satisfied, I didn't see Rob that time around but it was still a very good experience, the guys behind the counter are generally pretty great here. The third time I came in (tonight, 1/23/2015) I had a chance to talk with Rob again, we had a great conversation for a good 30 minutes or so before I really started shopping. He showed us a lot of their really beautiful pieces that were speciality, showed me some of the more interesting pieces and talked about some of the weirder ones. (Penis pipe. 'Nuff said) as well as a few others. Once again, there was no pressure, he and the other guy behind the counter showed me the ones that I was interested in, were very courteous and good to talk to. I learned about some of the guys who make their pipes and everything and really got to see that Rob has A LOT of knowledge about that store. Some people would say that they are over priced but I really feel that what they sell is much more decorative than what you would get at many other shops. Yeah, the other shops will have what you need, but this shop has what you need and makes sure it is BEAUTIFUL. My boyfriend and I had a great experience to the point that my boyfriend (who doesn't smoke in any capacity) said, "we need to keep coming here." That says a lot about good service. Summary: Zero Stars. Selling fake vape products which are dangerous. I would like to preface this review by saying that it is for vape products at Up In Smoke. They seem to have a huge selection of glassware, and for this reason I was initially inclined to give them two stars. I pass this store twice per week on my way home and have never been inside. Yesterday I was in need of a replacement BVC coil for my aspire nautilus, so I decided to give this place a try. Earlier in the day, I looked at buying a Nautilus coil in Morgan Hill which was so ridiculously fake it was comical. The inside had some loose wick wrapped in wire. I went into Up in Smoke to find they seemed to have a decent vape selection, so I was hopeful that their products would be real. If anyone has tried to buy vape products on eBay, you already know that the market is flooded with fake products that do not perform in any way like the real ones. So the guy here shows me the BVC coils. I was initially skeptical because I did not see the authenticity scratch label, but there was a big price tag where it would normally be, so I thought maybe it was under this. I inspected the coil inside the package, and it looked okay. so I bought the five pack for $19.99 [they would not sell them individually]. Mind you, authentic coils are available from online retailers for as low as $12.99 for a five pack, but I like to support local businesses whenever possible. So I bought the pack and headed to my car. I opened the package, took one out, and within 10 seconds could tell that these were fake. The inner construction is obviously different as you look down the top. And the bottom lacks the two notches that the real coil does. I peeled off the price tag, and of course there is no authenticity sticker. So I just paid $20 for about 40 cents worth of fake coils when I could get authentic coils cheaper. Not happy, I walked back into the store. They guy tells me no refunds, there is nobody here you can talk to, but you can come back tomorrow if you want. No thanks. So I head back to my car and figure "how bad can these coils be?" I should be at least able to get a couple of days out of it [vs two weeks with real BVC coils]. So I fill up my Nautilus and start driving home. I always shake them a bit to get the air pockets out and then let them sit for about 5 minutes to saturate the coil. I turned down my Eleaf to 3.7V to give this fake coil an extra margin of safety and took a drag. Here is where Up in Smoke's potential second star went up in a toxic cloud of acrid smoke. I have never in my life inhaled anything so disgusting. I had to roll down my window to spit and then stop for water. For a second I thought I was going to throw up. Mind you, I smoked cigarettes for many years before switching to vaping two years ago. I have used at least a dozen different atomizers, sometimes with fake coils. but I have never inhaled anything so terrible. Clearly it was not vaporizing anything but instead incinerating some part of it's internal structure. So thank you up in smoke for turning my pleasurable and relatively safe smoking alternative into a toxic crap shoot. I still have a sore throat this morning. Anyone looking at these coils would be able to tell quickly that they are fakes, so Up in Smoke is selling these products dishonestly, profiting greatly from it, and putting our health at risk. It's not about $20 wasted but about dishonest business practices and the resulting health risks. read more

Whelp, when I got home the lighter only worked a few times. I went to exchange it, and they didn't honor what the original person said. They didn't give me a receipt, so I can't even ship it to the manufacture for replacement. This place is a RIP OFF and the customer service lacks integrity!! I don't live near this place so I took it back 2 nights later only to be told to bring it back on Monday when manager is there from 10-5 (the hours I am at work) or they could mail it in to get serviced! I went in this establishment to purchase another stem for my water pipe. I waited for about 15 minutes with no offers to assist me. I told an employee (employee #1) who was busy with customers, I needed a replacement stem. The employee offered to help me once he was finished with his current customers. I browsed and browsed.....no help. Another employee, (employee #2) behind the counter, saw me, never offered me help. I waited patiently, directly in front of him, opposite the display counter. A couple of minutes later, some people entered the store. Employee #2, quickly greeted these potential customers, and asked how he could help them. Employee #1 was still busy with his customers. I finally gave up and walked out of the store. This store has a great selection, but horrible service. I will never return again. Their loss, I had some money to burn. They seriously need new management! This was the second time I experienced poor service here. I've only been here twice.
