Rented a Pontoon from MK Marine for a day on Torch Lake. Had a positive experience with MK Marine…read moreoverall. Would rent from them again. The great: the Pontoon we rented was new and pristine, the staff was very helpful and courteous, the setup they have is nice (they put the boat in the river for you, they bring the boat to your car after to unload, they have a nice changing room, bathroom was good, etc.). The not so good (as it relates to your experience as a boater): going through the Torch River to get to the lake itself. For experienced folks this probably is not a big deal but for beginners (like myself) it was white knuckle in and out with some narrow spots and traffic. If you knick the prop you have to buy them a new one. I was so nervous and didn't want to knick it I had it up higher than most. This makes the boat harder to steer and makes the river that much harder to navigate. They should consider offering prop insurance prior and that way you boat stress free! Once you get on Torch this is a non issue because the lake is huge and you can see the shallow spots with ease. Side Note: when coming back you'll have to u turn to dock and get gas from MK on the river (if you need some). Watch out for a sunken dock/bridge/rock hazard next to the dock on left prior to your u turn! Only a white floating log marks this treachery and you won't know it is to be avoided until almost the last minute.

The boat launch process was quick and easy with their help, as well as recovering the boat at the end of our rental. The lake was gorgeous and the weather was perfect. If you are looking to rent a boat for exploring the lake, M&K is the place to go! I'd like to come back to Torch, and when I do, I will definitely be renting from here again!

Do NOT rent here. We are experienced boaters and had a terrifying experience with their pontoon…read morerental. The boat's engine failed on the water, leaving us drifting into a rocky shoreline in dangerous, choppy conditions. Neighbors ran down to help, children were crying, and several people were injured. The company told us not to call the Coast Guard (others did anyway) and promised help--but instead sent two men in a truck who could only take three people, stranding the rest of us with small children and no keys or phones. When we finally got back, the owner was rude, blamed us, insisted his boats never fail, and tried to charge us the full rental plus $2,000 for damages--on the boat that had broken down. Check the Google reviews before booking--this isn't the first time this has happened. Spend your money elsewhere.

I wish I knew the one gal's who who helped us (tall, blond) because she was great. We had a wonderful time on the lake! Boat was beautiful and rode like a boating dream. We went back and forth on the tube and ended up taking it. So glad we did because my boys had an absolute blast, I highly recommend this business!

Perfect for boats (sailboats included!), jet-skis, and swimmers. There's plenty of open water, as well as a sandbar for those looking for a more typical beach-vibe that has places to buy food and drinks. There's also convenient places to gas up boats located right on the lake. Truly, this lake is amazing. It can be a little chilly, which is to be expected. It's all natural! Of course the water will be cold from time to time :)

My boyfriend and I are lucky to have friends whose parents live nearby and have a boat, so we went up for Fourth of July weekend. The lake is 19 miles long and is nearly 300 feet deep at its deepest point. The water is crystal clear and you can see many shades of blue ranging from bright turquoise to deep midnight - it's so beautiful! One of my favorite parts of being on the lake was checking out all the amazing homes. There are some stunning "cottages," that's for sure! We went over towards the notorious sandbar area to check it out from afar. It's definitely a sight to see with tons of boats and people everywhere! Lots of music and drinking. We even saw a float plane zooming around which was wild. We stayed a safe distance away and my old body got tired just watching the revelry! I'm definitely too old for those shenanigans but it was interesting to see. I hope I can come back to Torch Lake again in the future! If you get a chance to rent a boat or go out on this beautiful lake, I highly recommend it.

When I used to come up here I would be so surprised that the lake bottom was sandy and that the water was clear. What a shocker right?? This lake is the perfect size. It's small enough that as a good swimmer you can swim across it, but large enough that you can take out the ski boat and ski, pontoon boat and relax, or sail on the catamaran. Being part of the Chain of Lakes means that it's connected, through a series of rivers, to multiple other lakes so you can spend the day boating through nature areas and rivers to gain access to other local lakes. You can also boat your way over to the Dockside, park, and hang out on the porch. The other great thing about this lake is that it is located next to some really cute little towns like Bellaire and Alden. Day trips out to Traverse City (the only large city around) take about 45 minutes and Charlevoix is close as well. For a slightly longer trip away, about 2 1/2 hours, you could go to Mackinac Island which is an island filled with historic houses and no cars, only horse and buggies are allowed (in the summer at least). Finally, my favorite thing about Lake Bellaire is the fact that the majority of lake cabins are truly cabins, not monstrosities of the like that line the shores of southern lakes. You really feel like you are going back in time and that there is nothing better than a day at the lake minus tv and outside influences.
