This is our favorite place for lunch in Vail. Wonderful patio right on Gore Creek. The food and service is excellent. We have tried the Turkey sandwich , Ruben sandwich, BLT, Chicken sandwich and Hamburger all with the Arugula side salad. Every one was great and it's hard to choose which one on return visits. Visiting from Texas and one of our neighbors recommended this place. Made a reservation on Open Table and then called to see if we could wear our golf clothes. Mike answered the phone and told us our attire was acceptable. Our golf round ran late so we called to let them know we were running 5 to 10 minutes late and once again Mike said no problem. We went on January 9. It was a decent meal, but nothing great. I wouldn't be upset if I had to go back, but it wouldn't be my first choice. Next time in Vail we'd try something new. We had the calamari app. It was good but I wish there was a little more calamari and less of the filler items. My husband and son had the short rib and enjoyed it. Wow! This was absolutely delicious! The short ribs were incredibly tender; could be cut with a fork. They were paired with asparagus and a decadent smoked Gouda Mac. The hostess/server who greeted us was kind enough to hold our table while we moved our car from the ridiculously expensive lot to the free one (and she explained the two). Our server was great, attentive, not the center of attention. The river was at probably its highest for the year--raging. Lovely to sit outside right next to it. What makes this restaurant stand out over every other in Vail Village is location, location, location! Relaxing creek side, watching the families tubing down the creek, sipping on a glass of wine, and enjoying a warm reuben sandwich with truffle fries. These are just some of the perks of coming here for lunch. I also have to mention a beautiful memory from many years ago when I came here for dinner on a stormy night. The power went out and the waiters all brought out candles to illuminate the dining room. All of the guests decided to embrace this minor misfortune and started jovially conversing with each other amidst the shadowy flicker of the candlelight. I even believe some singing was involved from some of the waitstaff. It was one of the most delightful and unexpected evenings I've ever had. After a long day on Vail Pass & strolling through the Village, I was searching for a good place for some sun + an early dinner or late afternoon snack... and Up The Creek looked to fit the bill. She didn't offer anything to drink besides water, told us everything on the menu was available, and went away for 10 minutes. When she came back to ask what we wanted to eat, seemingly 2 things on the menu we chose were not available. Oookay, pivot! The food was pretty good! The wings were tasty- quite saucy & not too small. The tortilla soup was the winner of the day; the presentation was cool where they bring the broth separate from the contents, and the broth had a great limey flavor too. The burger was cooked perfectly & well seasoned too, which was a surprise for a small place. The kids mac & cheese was good too (homemade). All in all, I'd give Up The Creek 4 stars if it weren't for the service... their farm-to-table food is quite tasty but the service needs some improvement! read more

My family ordered the elk plate. It had a coffee ground rub, which took away the flavor from the Elk meat. He did not like it so much! Patio Seating offers great views on activities in the creek and is also one of the few dog friendly places that you can sit on the patio and enjoy a meal. They have a pretty extensive wine list and of course a reasonable cocktails and beer list. I love the food menu is not that large I think that the selections are tasteful and would please most of their American diners. The truffle fries here are truly excellent and the gem salad with shrimp I had was delicious despite paying resort prices ($21)for the meal. Had dinner here during our trip to Vail, and it was lovely. We made reservations and, once we arrived, were sat immediately. We were sat next to the window, so we had a gorgeous view of the creek and the snow. Our waitress was Shannon, and she was fantastic! We ordered the beef carpaccio and New England clam chowder as starters, and they were terrific. The carpaccio was topped with confit potatoes, truffle aioli, and a balsamic vinegrette. The flavor was spectacular. My boyfriend really enjoyed his clam chowder. Make sure you ask because they have two sizes and he ordered the large one and was quite full afterward. As our main course, we ordered the braised short rib (which they are famous for) and the ruby trout. Let me tell you; I now know why they are famous for their short rib. It was packed with flavor, and it perfectly fell off the bone... DELISH. It came paired with gouda mac and cheese, which was WOW, and some asparagus, all topped with a cabernet veal reduction. The trout came topped with lump crab, a potato hash, and spinach on the side, all topped with a stone-ground mustard vinaigrette. Overall, the experience and food were spectacular. This place has the best location next to the creek. It's a beautiful view if you can snag a seat on the patio. There isn't a bad seat out there. We arrived around late lunch time at 1pm and it was busy. Most of the tables on the patio were packed, there were maybe 1-2 tables that were being cleaned off. We had to wait a bit for someone to acknowledge and help us at the host stand. But we can understand as it was busy. Finally, an older gentleman who may be the owner came to the front and we asked to be seated on the patio. He found a small 2 seater table and sat us promptly. You can watch all the parents and their kids playing next to the creek, we were that close. Our server's name was Jenev. She was very friendly and accommodating. We were torn between some food items and she had a good sense of humor trying to help us decide. We ended up getting the lunch portion of the Arugula Salad ($12) and added turkey for an additional fee of $4. The second menu item was a toss up between the Reuben Sandwich and Grilled Chicken Sandwich. We were trying to make healthier options. Since we ordered the salad, we opted for the Reuben Sandwich ($15) and upgraded the fries to truffle fries for an additional $4. I love truffle fries and will pay extra for that. Our food came out and everything was presented well. The Reuben was a huge portion but it looked like it was made to perfection. The swirl marble rye bread was perfectly toasted and so buttery that you could see the shiny butter on the bread. Healthy, I know. But so good. The buffalo pastrami was a heaping portion. My first bite into the Reuben was absolute heaven!!! It was indeed cooked to perfection. All the flavors, more than fair portion of pastrami crispy bread brought everything together nicely. The truffle fries could have used a bit more truffle flavoring but I can't complain since the fries were fresh and piping hot. They served the truffle fries a side of a light bleu cheese dressing which complimented the fries well. The Arugula Salad with Turkey was tossed in a vanilla vinaigrette and had a good amount of goat cheese to complement the dish. The caramelized walnuts was a nice touch and gave the salad delicious texture. The salad was delicious. Patio seating is where it's at, service was wonderful and food was delicious. The only thing I felt the place needed to be updated was the interior dining space. The bar and indoor seating felt very outdated. Other than that, I would highly recommend this spot. read more

Bravo! They seated us with last min reservations. Atmosphere was beautiful overlooking the creek. We had the clam chowder- it is a must. Split Ceasear salad which was good. Entrees were the Chilean Sea bass and Bison Tenderloin! Sea bass was more Succulent than I could have imaged. Generous sized portions. And the Bison was medium-rare to perfection.
