Had a wonderful, upscale dining experience at Hearthstone! Everything that we ordered was delicious - in particular the Alaskan Black Cod and the English Sticky Toffee Pudding! As someone generally has an aversion to fish, I was shocked when I took a bite of the black cod and found it tasty! It virtually has 0 fishy smell or taste, and all the flavor seems to come from the sauce and mushrooms around it. The Wagyu was a big piece of meat that my family of 4 shared - I appreciated the big slab of butter that they left on top of the steak, mmm so good. We finished off our meal with the sticky toffee pudding which was sooo good! It was gone in seconds and if I had an unlimited budget, we definitely would've gotten more. Highly recommend coming to Hearthstone for a nice meal in Breck. Service and hospitality were very nice - a manager came around to check in on every table to ensure that everyone was having a good experience. An incredible experience celebrating a special moment, the staff was unbelievable! Despite arriving a little early, the staff made sure to take great care of us and provide us with a wonderful spot outside to make sure we could watch the sunsetting over the mountains. The entire wait staff did an amazing job of making sure the entire experience was perfect, from helping with the wine selection (which is superb) to choosing our food. Hearthstone was an unforgettable experience. The food was absolutely amazing from start to finish. I went with the 5-course menu and chose the elk cooked medium rare -- easily one of the best dishes I've had in a long time. The Italian pilsner paired perfectly with the meal, and the dessert, the caramel sticky toffee pudding, was incredible. We came for happy hour after a ski day and were really impressed. The historic building is outstanding, and they've retained most of the charm and features. Great location and views if you're lucky enough to be near a window. The cocktails focus on the classics and are well prepared (and using Breckenridge spirits where possible). Amazing experience. I was tasked with planning my mom's elopement last minute while they visited on their annual ski trip. They eloped at sapphire point (stunning) and then we did a dinner of 9 adults and 2 children to celebrate. Hearthstone was the best! They put me in touch with local baker who dropped off the wedding cake the night before and they set it up for a cutting at the end of dinner. Service was excellent. They put us in a semi private room off to the left, perfect. Food was excellent as well (much better than what you typically eat at a wedding haha). Waiter was very patient with us and attentive. Didn't feel rushed even when most of headed back and three people stayed back at the table for another round. Made the night feel so special. From summers of 2020-2025 this was our place to go on every trip. We usually came to Breck 5-6 times a year. We even enjoyed two Thanksgiving meals there. This week, we went for happy hour, which was always great for small plates and drinks. We ordered two drinks and two small plates. My beet small plate was about two inches in diameter and 1/2" high. It tasted good. But my spouse ordered the recommended jalapeño shrimp poppers. He said they smelled like old shrimp and the breading was like an undercooked corn dog. He did not send it back. But we did pay/tip then went to Fatty's for a Pesto Pizza because after a $65 happy hour, we were still hungry. So disappointed that the Hearthstone is not up to what is expected. I hope the new owners can bring it back to what it should be. Maybe Dick should buy it back! read more

I've been here twice in the last few years and I just don't get why this place is so popular. The food lacks flavor. If you're from a major city, skip this place. It just doesn't compare (we're from Houston). We had the filet (we get this at every steakhouse) and it lacked flavor. The duck was cooked well and was average. Sides were bland, literally no flavor. For the appetizer, we had the octopus and it was cooked well. It was paired with a Spanish sausage (odd pairing) but both tastes great. The complimentary bread was really good too. Falling Corpse and Moscow Mule were good. The waiter was very knowledgeable but the service was extremely slow. For the price (almost $400 for 2 adults and a kid) I'd go elsewhere. read more

Would rate this place 3.7 stars Our waiter Corbin was wonderful with timing, refills and overall service. No complaints there. The reason for the dings to the rating is because of the food/chef. The wait for our entrees was unusually long, tables were looking around for their food and one table stood up and complained in front of everyone. Upon arrival, the medium filet was medium rare and the medium rare elk was medium well. Overall the dining experience was cozy and romantic, but the food leaves a bit to be desired for the price point. read more

It was an interesting meal with some high highs and low lows. The service was great and our waiter was really nice. The highlights of the meal were the Ahi Tuna appetizer and Peach Bread Pudding with Raspberry Sorbet for dessert. The tuna appetizer was so well done with all the different flavors and textures coming together perfectly. It was one of my favorite tuna dishes I've ever had. I don't normally go for bread pudding, but both it and the sorbet were delicious. The low point was the burrata appetizer which I had gotten as my main. I love black pepper and would say I use more than the average person, but this dish had so much pepper that it was hard to eat. I had to force myself to finish maybe half of it. I had seen some positive reviews for the burrata so not sure if there was some accident with my dish and the pepper, but I can't imagine it was what the dish was meant to be. The actual restaurant was pretty cool and had a relaxing atmosphere so given that and the delicious tuna appetizer and dessert I'd probably go back. read more

Visited Hearthstone on a Saturday evening. We had Charlie as our server, and he did a fabulous job recommending dishes and drinks preferred to the needs and desires of the group. Our group had the best salad, cheese plate, mushroom soup and octopus for starters. We also had the elk, lamb, beef flat iron steak and the cod for entrees. The front runners were the soup and the elk. The setting was in an old converted house so it was an unusual setup, but entirely lovely. This place is AMAZING! My husband and I went here for our anniversary dinner. First, when you walk in, the ambiance is amazing. It is in such a cute house on the hill with great views, and the interior is so aesthetic- like an old cozy Victorian house. When we sat down we were met with a free glass of champagne for celebrating our anniversary which was a nice touch. We both ordered a cocktail which came out quickly, and ordered 2 appetizers and 1 entree to share. We got the Octopus and the Beef massaman meat pie to share. The octopus was well made but a little salty, but the beef massaman pie was incredible. One of the best foods I have had in a long time and I'm still thinking about it. The philo dough was done perfectly and it was perfect to share (you only get 1 but it is large!). Then we got the blackberry elk to share. The restaurant brought this to us on two separate plates already since they knew we were splitting it which was so thoughtful and made it so easy! And it was so good. Definitely enough to share. We were so full afterwards that we couldnt even get a dessert, though they looked amazing as well. Our server was attentive and kind, and overall this was such an amazing experience, especially for a celebratory evening. Our waiter, Josh, was fantastic, including our 7 year old in all conversations and suggesting what he should order. We had the charred octopus to start, which was fresh and delicious. Housed in a converted home this restaurant has lots of character, charm and class. Service was very good although she did forget to tell us about the quail special we overheard the other table was told about. We had ordered already so we didn't change our order. We shared the Radish Salad. It was fresh, crisp and elegant! I'd never had a salad like this before and it was excellent! The perfect starter salad! It was unusual and had light, interesting flavors that didn't overpower. This is why I loved it so much. I was quite happy with the Duck dish. It was a very generous portion and was served with mashed parsnip and roasted cubed beets. The pomegranate molasses was really good with all of it. The duck itself was tender and savory. Delicious! The lamb chops x3 were good size and served with bourbon sweet potatoes. So yummy! A great combo! We ended with the Toffee Bread Pudding. It seemed more like a light muffin with a thin caramel sauce. Different than the usual bread pudding I've tried at other places. Theirs was light and not overly sweet so it was perfect way to end a lovely meal. read more

Another incredible spot in Breck for a date night. What a perfect meal after a long day on the mountain. I can't believe it's taken me this long to write a review for my FAVORITE RESTAURANT IN ALL OF COLORADO. There I said it. Hearthstone is truly special and I've felt that way each and every time I've dined here. Its beautiful Victorian facade beckons you to come in and stay awhile. We've celebrated some wonderful moments here, including our wedding rehearsal dinner (which was the talk of our wedding party for how enchanting everything was). The menu features a modern American approach to locally prepared, in season game, fish, and produce. Each time I've dined here has been like a new experience with some staple favorites that are a must-order every time (like the Black Cod and Creekstone Ranch Beef Filet). I've loved everything I've had here and the Sticky Toffee Pudding remains in the number one spot for favorite desserts of all time. The service is impeccable and it feels like you're having an intimate dining experience in a loved one's home. We've sat in almost every table and our preference is the beautiful window table upstairs overlooking the mountains beyond. I also love the outdoor deck for those beautiful, sunny day happy hours. We've had some seriously exceptional cocktails from Benji (the bar manager) who was kind enough to educate us on whiskeys & the different concoctions he was conceptualizing. They have a comprehensive wine list and nice selection of cocktails. Each time we're in Breck, Hearthstone is a must stop. 10/10 and wish I could give more than 5 stars . I recommend any of the beef/lamb dishes and especially love the Alaskan Black Cod (which cuts like butter it's so silken and tender). read more

We had the Cesar's salad - don't let the anchovies throw you. They were very good and we don't normally care for them. The Cod dinner was by far the star of the night. Never again. We've spent our summers in Breckenridge and we've always looked forward to eating at Hearthstone. Tonight that all ended. We had reservations for 7pm and arrived at 6:45. The young receptionist stated "we're holding to reservation times" this evening and told us it would be about a 15 min wait. No problem. We sat down next to her podium to wait. 2-3 minutes later, a party of 4 came in and stated they didn't have reservations but wanted to know if they could get a table. She was looking at her computer screen and was joined by two men, one I assumed was the manager. She looked at the guests and said yes we can seat you, grabbed 4 menus and said follow me. We sat there dumbfounded. The manager walked back up and I told him what happened and said this was BS. Someone walks in with no reservation and gets seated immediately and we have to wait 15 minutes. Nope sorry. Not acceptable. And the place as fairly empty. I explained to the mgr and he copped an attitude. That's when I looked at my wife and said we're out of here. By that time, the young lady returned and I looked at the manager and said you need to train her and we left. We ended up at The Briar Rose and had a wonderful evening. We did a bunch of Happy hour plates to try everything and the dinner plate of steak with gnocchi. Let me tell you, the gnocchi was the best I have ever had, considering I don't like gnocchi. It kind of just melted in my mouth like butter. It was not super chewy like the ones I had in the past. Now I am a fan and the standard is set really high. The steak was good too. We also ordered a bunch of things from the happy hour menu. Hummus, baos, and the beets stood out for me. Ceviche was their special for the day and it was salty. But overall we enjoyed dinner and the happy hour drinks. We were seated upstairs in a victorian house style. Holy moly, we're on a roll! This place was literally one of the best meals I've had in my life. You walk into a warm, Victorian-esque ambiance with fun lighting and picture frames everywhere. Our waiter Cody was very friendly and helpful with deciding what to get off the menu. We started with the burrata and heirloom tomatoes- it was surprisingly delicious. The burrata was house made and so creamy and decadent. For entrees we got the Rack of Lambs and the Blackberry Crusted Elk. WOW! Both were insanely good, cooked to perfection (med rare) and the sides it came with were mind blowingly tasty. For dessert we got the carrot cake, and which was decadent and delicious as well. The service was great. The wine menu is impressive, but 4 x retail. I had a premium cocktail (dirty blue martini) it was very good. Unfortunately, my halibut ( the special) was overcooked and extremely dry. The risotto was mushy and dry. The special halibut was quoted at $51 and the bill showed $68. They took $5 off when I inquired about the difference.My husband's black cod was delicious. This p,ace used to be a gem, it feels tired, dingy and overpriced.... We've been coming to Hearthstone every trip to Breck for about 8 years. We ate here in August and both had the same meal as the trip last month. Ordered the tenderloin beef tip appetizer and blackberry elk and was completely blown away. Cooked perfectly medium-rare, insanely flavorful, and honestly one of the best dishes I've had in years. Service? Immaculate. My server Brandon was top-tier, friendly, knowledgeable, and dialed in without being overbearing. I genuinely hated to leave. He made excellent recommendations for wine pairings that were absolutely spot on. We started with the Octopus and the Heirloom tomato with house made burrata and those were lovely. When it was time for the main course, I opted for the special of the night - Shrimp, Scallops and fish and it was... ok. The scallops didn't have that lovely sear I've come to expect from a fine dining establishment and the shrimp was slightly overdone as was the fish. The sauce was impeccable though. Our waitress was very friendly and attentive without being intrusive. Meal choices were varied and nicely accompanied with decorative presentation. Review is for their happy hour. They are pretty nut allergy friendly; even ordering the cheese plate, they put the almonds on the side upon request. We arrived at 3:52PM on a Saturday and were first in line for a happy hour. Every table was taken by 4:21PM, along with most of the bar seating. I ordered two beers ($4 a piece), two orders of the mochiko Chicken ($10 each), one order of the artisan cheese plate ($12), and one order of the beef tip steamed buns ($12). $4 beers: can't complain. 10/10 Mochiko Chicken (5/5*): *I would be careful ordering this with any drinks or other dishes. It has some serious spice kick! Artisan Cheese Plate (2/5): Not really worth it in my opinion, one cheese was essentially a basic brie. The other two were ok, but we could have used more crackers. I think my score is lower because I couldn't eat the almonds. Beef Tip Steamed Buns (4.5/5): Two beef buns that have some great flavor, very much like a bulgogi bao. One of my buns had a lot more meat than the other, but they were still both pretty good. Service was fast and friendly. They did an excellent job of keeping our water cups topped off and confirming we didn't need anything else. For an area where I had not received the best service at other establishments this place provided a much better experience. From the moment I walked in I was warmly welcomed and impressed with an elegant and cozy restaurant that apparently used to be a 1900s mansion. I thought about ordering the elk since I don't often get to have it, but I couldn't turn down the Wagyu ribeye and it was amazing, cooked to perfection, juicy, taste full, and the risotto it was paired with was phenomenal.
