I usually don't stick with a work out for longer than two weeks, yet here I am going on four months!!! I was scared I was going to be judged or that I wasn't "fit" enough to fit in, but ya know what? These people are my motivators and family. Sure I don't like it when a trainer notices I'm not giving it my all, but I do love their encouragement and how proud they make me feel about myself when I do push through and succeed....just like they knew I could. My good friend (who just got married) is a faithful member of this gym, so her coach (Chris) offered to host a private class for the wedding party. Myself, three other bridesmaids, and the bride all came here early on a Sunday morning and got a good sweat in before the big day. Chris started us off with 5 minutes of stretching, followed by a warm up that got our heart rates up, and then led us into a workout rotation that we went through three times. Most of the exercises we did I was familiar with, but there were a few that intimidated me (ahem, power snatches). Chris had us try out each station a few times before starting the clock in order to ensure we had good form. After starting the clock he would come over and kindly correct us if our form was off. At the end of the class I could definitely feel that I had just challenged myself, but didn't feel like I overdid it. I was sore for the next few days, but not in an unreasonable way! Aside from a quality workout and awesome coaching, this gym has the coolest vibe. It's in a garage-type space off Fairview. The doors were open while we worked out, letting in some nice natural light and fresh morning air. The equipment and workout space is also up-to-date and kept nice and tidy. They also have a great stereo system in here and blare music while the class is going - nothing like a little Kanye to motivate you through your final round of box jumps! As far as pricing is concerned, they have a few different monthly packages depending on how often you want to attend classes. I will say it is a bit pricey, but they have financial assistance for people who are needing it, and when I lost my job we paid based on how much we made so cost doesn't have to be a factor preventing you from going to an inclusive community center for all ages. The YMCA in West Boise offers a great experience for any newcomer to the gym or long time veterans who are just coming in to work out.

We went on a Saturday and the big pool had a swim meet so it was closed which was fine, but it wasn't posted anywhere. So we went in the other two pools. The problem is, we called ahead to get information since we'd never been before & at the front desk reiterated we had never been so wanted to make sure we were good to go info. However, the staff at the front desk was unpleasant and offered almost no information. You must have your ID with you which we had to go 20 minutes back for and was not told that on the phone. We brought 4 kids, two that can swim and two that can't yet so we borrowed life jackets and they swam for almost an hour in the non kiddie pool only to be told you can't be in here even with a life jacket so they kicked them out into the kiddie pool. Then they kept asking for necklaces which we didn't know what that meant and finally a lifeguard said they tell us if they can swim or not. This was an hour in style that point and they'd been swimming without them. The signage to the pools is atrocious and unclear. The bathrooms were dirty as were multiple spots in the pool. I even asked about memberships for the future, & the front desk person said "oh idk you'll need to call the manager" and walked away. I'm glad it was only $4 because it was a very stressful experience and next time we want to take the kids swimming, I think we will find somewhere else.
