Cranberry orange scone with Devonshire cream
    Rachel S.

Cute, quaint, and quite delicious all describe Upper Crust Cafe and Bakery. It's unassuming from the outside but upon entry you're greeted with a lovely display of fresh baked goods. The scones are out of this world, not to mention they're huge. You have to try them! Just past the counter is their dining room, which can fill up quickly during season. We visited Upper Crust in the summer on a weekday so we were quickly seated and served. The menu has great variety and is very well priced. My eggs and turkey bacon were solid and my husband's Benedict was great.

cranberry scone # 600 for the day!!! They said they were out but this was saved for pickup but not claimed!!!! WOW WOW WOW.

WOW, let's start and finish with that. ........before starting as well, the service here was some of the most fantastic, pleasant, perfect "zone defense" table ready service in my over 45 years of global travel!!! NATALIE was super awesome!!!! (more on this later) April 12, 2025 - 4 for brunch/12:45 pm day of the insane Shark Tooth Festival. There were like 20,000 people and a few hundred tents of vendors on this day?? Insane. Friends (one who is my classmate from PA in the 1970s!) who lived on a sailboat (57 ft Lagoon catamaran) in Venice harbor many years, have just returned after many 1,000s of miles and having tried quiche in about 15 countries and sailed from Boston to the Panama Canal, Puetro Rico and back firmly stated ------ THIS is where they wanted to go on their 2 days here? THIS is the best quiche place they have been anywhere!!! Crazy? Well its turns out NO!!!!!! Three (3) of us got the ham and cheese(s) quiche with a side salad and I got the vegetable quiche w/salad. This was a STUNNINGLY tasty and perfectly cooked quiche at proper temperature and fantastic ingredients and cheeses!!! Crust? Magnificent.... toss your carb, dairy, oil, flour, gluten, sugar paranoia and EAT THAT THING!!! SOOOO good! The salad was "made" fresh and the dressing perfect. The fresh greens and vegetable would have made this a fine entree or free standing dish!!! The two together - PERFECT. We had begun our order with a request for 4 scones, BUT BUT BUT by ~ 1 pm they had sold SIX HUNDRED SCONES that day?????????? So we were denied. Because I am basically a whiner, nag and a pest, I kept joking with Natalie our server, that my vegetable quiche sure would have been awesome IF I ONLY HAD A SCONE OF MY OWN!!!! (hear small violin in the background) I was relentless and joking......... but something magically happened? A take out /pick up had not taken place and the product freed up!!!!!! Natalie swept in like Cat Woman and snapped up that scone and dashed to our table!!!!! A bit of homemade whipped cream and that hot cranberry/orange scone - WOW oh boy scrumptious, we four split that little treasure and REALLY enjoyed it!!!! We took what they had and we were NOT disappointed!! Did I emphasize what fantastic service with here BY ALL the wait staff as about 4 people brought food, handled the bottomless water glasses, the food delivery...and the whole place was fully covered and satisfied!!!! That Natalie was a great sport and put up with me!!!! Hats Off and Bravo! Must go here!! and we will absolutely be going back for what we are told are the two KILLER to die for scones!!!!!!! The Blueberry Scone and the most awesome scone - the Lemon Poppy!!!!!!!!!!!! (okay so I will never be able to get any of them now that YOU reading this are going to beat me to them???) This place hits all the buttons and rings all the bells.... service, decor, cleanliness, seating, food prep, quality, cooking, delivery.... oh my! Thank you Natalie and team Upper Crust - you certainly are!!!!

Coming from LA to Venice, I don't have very high expectations for restaurants in Venice. As the options for good food in Venice is very limited in my opinion. My mom is kind of health freak and doesn't often like to eat out because of this, but when she recommended we pick up some pastries from the bakery. I knew this place must be legit, but I was still skeptical nevertheless. In hindsight, I should have ordered the pastries from the today in the air conditioning as the weather is very hot as you know. It's not so comfortable sitting outside with a small child. My mother wanted to sit outside so we did. The World Famous Scones are legit and they are the perfect texture for a scone as they are soft and moist, but hard at the same time. Sometime when you order a scone they are tough and dry. Not these they were very fresh. We ordered the blueberry scones. The cashier asked if we'd like to try some Devonshire Cream. Who am I to say no?! We each try a spoonful of that succulent cream and it was heavenly. I recommend that you order the Cream with your scone. It's a game changer. Scones are very good on their own, but even better with the cream. We also ordered the Crumb Cake and the Lemon Bars and they also very delicious. I highly recommend if you come into this bakery if you come to Venice. Order anything from the bakery and you won't be disappointed.

Pancakes & sausage. Syrup was thick & tasty.

Tasty strawberry crepes with delicious Devonshire cream! Mmm.... Hubby had pancakes & sausage patties topped with an egg. Pancakes were good & sausage had a nice flavor. The waitresses were chipper & really hustled! Hubby only got his coffee warmed up once. I just got water & should have gotten a bottle of it. Place is bright & clean. A little snafu in folks trying to get bakery items while others are waiting for tables. Oh, we grabbed a couple of key lime bars for later!

The food here was so delicious! We ordered the crab cake Benedict and breakfast tacos and I took a pastry to go. The weather was perfect so we got to enjoy the outside seating.

We ordered breakfast. It arrived cold. The butter didn't melt on either her pancakes or my toast. This was the only problem. Otherwise the food was decent. Not worth what we paid but decent.

Very good breakfast in downtown Venice. Bakery scones were delicious. Had the breakfast bowl as the main course, was better than average.

June 2, 2026 - Two for Dinner, our 36th wedding anniversary. (we had last been here a year ago for…read morethe same occasion.) First up - PARKING was awesome!!! we parked in their lot and had plenty of choices. yay. Second - When I had made a reservation for our special occasion I was asked "Inside or Outside" which I picked Inside. I was then ASKED "window table?" to which I happily confirmed yes that would be great. I then confirmed to my wife. 6PM, Inside, & Window seating. When I arrived I was quizzed if I had a reservation. Yes. Then I was asked did i want to dine Inside or Outside and I replied I had confirmed an Inside, window reservation. And he brought us to our inside aisle non-window table. When I asked why not a window as I confirmed - I was informed they only give them out when they are available and he can't guarantee it? I then asked "Why do you ask then when the reservation is made?" He just walked away. Probably not a good candidate for a public or customer facing role. As others have stated (and I in my first review) the staff and server experience here is highly variable. 1/10 Third - Our server was excellent and gregarious. we were seated well over 5 minutes until we able to tender a drink order, but then everything went very smoothly. The bus staff seems "nervous" and inexperienced, I had to ask twice for more water. The bread and butter was a little disappointing. one of the rolls was ok, the other either old, stale or did not sustain the heating process very well - inedible. There were two flatbread crackers in the basket as well. 3/10 Fourth - We both got a cup of seafood bisque soup. This was a smooth and flavorful soup. Chunks of seafood of various types and a little shot of sherry on the side to pour on. (my 10 year AA medal pushed it away - smile) 9/10 My wife ordered a Pompano special with scallops and the chef special vegetables and green beans. This was very substantive entree and she did bring half of it home. The fish was nicely prepared and properly cooked, the vegetables were cooked al dente and not just something on the plate - good job. The green beans so nice as a vegetarian / vegan plant based eater I am going to order them as my entree! 9/10 I ordered a shrimp cocktail as part of my main. I haven't had shrimp in a few years, and these were fairly decent. the cocktail sauce was disappointing as I am a Kelchner's horseradish and Heinz Chili Sauce kind of guy.... pink from the 50/50 mixture. The sauce here was a restaurant pack can of catsup and a splash of tabasco. yech. 5/10 Also as my main an Arugula Salad with Roasted Beets, NO goat cheese, Almonds, Honey-Citrus Vinaigrette, Raspberry Coulis. A VERY nice salad with an extremely fresh and beautiful collection of arugula lettuce, and the roasted yellow and purple beets were nicely cooked and prepared. The dressing was light and tasty and not some gloppy oil slick of goo. 10/10 Finally, our server brought us out a little keylime pie to commemorate our occasion, we were actually pretty full from the dinner and declined dessert but she brought this out and we took a few pictures!!! VERY nice touch!!! Thank you. I think the kitchen has improved over the last three reviews and last three or so years. The reservation and front desk and the service is variable and inconsistent, still. The communications and reservation situation is flawed - a reservation is between two parties - if we agree on something the expectation is we BOTH deliver (I arrive on time and pay, and the establishment seats and accommodates as per the expectation) Both should expect what was agreed to? Obviously this is all personnel and seasonally dependent here in Venice, FL, now that we enter the slow and less tourist oriented I think the employees and the patrons will be less wired and unpredictable. My wife and I have discussed a mid summer visit to the Crow's Nest - maybe for my birthday in August?

Every time I go and eat upstairs, the more convincing I need to return again to the upstairs. Each…read moretime I go, something is off. Once again went with friends who are visiting, I live close by. The service was worse than before, had to flag the host down after 20mins of not being acknowledged by any server. The manager has been an issue in the past 2 previous visits. I'll continue to frequent the lounge. The servers are great and I can order the whole menu.

Actually our very first time here we couldn't get a seat because it it that popular. I love their chicken and dumpling soup. This is THE definition of comfort for to me. It tastes like a quality chicken pot pie with actual goodies, none of this whole farmland of potatoes, carrot, and peas plus some broth and butter and a shred of chicken tail and calling it a "chicken soup." This was a hearty soup with chunks of white meat chicken and soft dumplings. Basically chicken dumpling soup as they say, vs potatoes cube soup. It is a must have. I really did myself a disservice and only got a cup.... on my own vacation after working throughout the entire pandemic on-site. The gulf shrimp platter (I got blackened) absolutely delicious. I love the Bourbon Sriracha sauce and used it as a dipping sauce for my fries. You can also never go wrong with hearty mashed potatoes and their gravy. My fiance got some brisket pork combo (in the entrees section) plus mac and cheese side... so good!! This is a must go to place, and the staff are super pleasant. Zero complaints from me!

I couldn't resist the offer of lightly battered fried chicken livers AND a two piece fried chicken platter w two sides. The livers were very good- right out of the fryer and not heavily battered. I don't know why but it was served with a side of mild buffalo sauce. You could also dab it in some of their homemade BBQ sauces. The dark meat fried chicken was also very good- lightly battered and right out of the fryer. I chose collards and mashed potatoes w gravy. The greens were tender and very tasty. The mashed potatoes were also good. The sides and a square of sweet cornbread rounded out the southern comfort food platter. Beer and wine is served along with sweet teas and soda. The servers were friendly but were slammed going table to table. I thought about a slice of the frozen peanut butter pie to go but bailed on it. My meal was very good. This is the spot where the locals eat.
