We chose to visit Flapjacks Cafe after seeing the good ratings, unfortunately, we didn't have the same experience as these other "reviewers." My husband and I both ordered the corned beef hash. I ordered a waffle, and he had pancakes, along with coffee. To start, the coffee was okay, just a little watered down, but acceptable. We then had to wait a good 30 minutes for our food, and once it arrived, we were completely disappointed. The corned beef hash was pretty much inedible. The taste was seriously off, it tasted like old onions, and aside from a crust on top, it was complete mush. We are both corned beef hash fans and have had many plates of it, and this was not how corned beef should be served. Both of our eggs and bread options were fine. My husband's pancakes were undercooked, with what he kept calling "crunchy things" inside them. My waffle was on the same level as one you'd get at a hotel using a waffle maker at a free breakfast buffet. By the end of the meal, my coffee looked so watered down that we were calling it lake water. Now to the restaurant and servers: the restaurant was very hot, so much so that the door was propped open. The server said the AC had just gone out, however, based on how the servers were dressed (shorts and sleeveless tops), it seemed like this was the normal atmosphere for them. While all of the servers were nice to us, one of them was abrasive and somewhat rude to other customers. When someone waiting for a table asked if he could order drinks, she said, "No. If I let you order drinks, I'll have a coffee shop outside." Needless to say, they got in their car and left. Lastly, we didn't complain about anything, paid our $50.00 bill, and left a $10.00 tip, so $60.00 total for a breakfast that probably should have cost about $30.00, which was crazy. I wouldn't recommend this restaurant to anyone and would caution people to go elsewhere if asked. read more

My boyfriend and I stopped in for a quick breakfast and we were blown away by this place! First of all, our server Leyla was awesome! Super attentive, funny, and made sure we had all we wanted and more for an enjoyable dining experience. Secondly, the food was DELICIOUS. From the time we appeared at the front door and left we were treated with a beautiful smiling welcome. The cinnamon rolls were to die for and the eggs and home fries were top notch. A nice visit I had an opportunity to drive down to Venice for breakfast this morning and took full advantage, visiting the locally owned and operated Flapjacks Café. This was not my first visit, but it was my first since ownership changed about 5 months ago. I walked into the same small inviting place. It was a slow moment, the quiet interrupted by soft background music and the hum of equipment. My server, who was also the owner, was right over with a menu and to ask what I wanted to drink. I had checked out their website and menu ahead of time and knew what I wanted to try, their homemade Corned Beef Hash with a side of their Home Fries. I skipped getting toast. The food took under 10 minutes to arrive, and by that time other customers had arrived. I enjoyed my breakfast as I sat at a table next to a window letting in natural light. The restaurant is part of a strip mall with parking spots just outside. They also have a couple of small tables on the sidewalk outside. My coffee was topped off often, the owner very accessible for any questions or requests. I got to chat with her for a couple of minutes and was impressed with her commitment to her customers. I did ask if they had a credit card service charge, and they do not. The previous owner did offer different cash and credit pricing. All in all, it was a nice visit. read more

Monday morning and all three of my regular breakfast places were closed. Tried flapjacks and I'm glad I did. I had the #4 special. Two scrambled eggs with cheese and ham, with two pancakes. Those were wonderful pancakes. Fluffy and perfectly cooked. Service was fast. My only complaint was the American cheese on my eggs, but I should have asked for Swiss. Lesson learned. I'll definitely go back since those pancakes were so good and specify the type of cheese. read more

I arrived at this restaurant 15 minutes before closing time and the doors were locked. It is horrible customer service to do this. I reviewed on google,but the owner didn't get it. So I'll explain: I was in the restaurant business 45 years. I owned 19 restaurants at the height of my career. All our "policies " were customer based. If our closing time was 10, we always had the rule that you NEVER Close early, because a customer may have driven to eat with us expecting us to be open. Also, if at 10 pm a customer pulled into the lot, we let them in, then closed and locked the door and served them. We didn't "lock the door in their face". The owner of this poorly ran restaurant said "she wanted to get her employees home on time" . That's simple: change your hours on your sign and websites to say "we close at 1:30". The fact is the place is so poorly ran you probably didn't have any customers for who knows how long and decided to close early. This has nothing to do with your respect for employees. It has to do with your disrespect for your customers. But don't worry, it won't last long. read more

This was my first time here. I wanted to try it because of the reviews, but I was very disappointed when getting my food. There was nothing special about my egg and sausage link and I had to pay $3 to add potatoes so a total $14.50 for that small plate. It looked like they made 1 egg, and only served 1 link. The French toast had no taste and barely sprinkled any powdered sugar. The water tasted horrible, worse tap water I've ever tasted. I planned to have a business meeting for two people at this restaurant and requested to sit at a four-top table. However, the waitress asked me to take a two-top instead. I noticed that there were two couples already seated at four-top tables. She explained that if the restaurant got busy, she would need to move me to another table. While waiting for my guest to arrive, I saw one person seated alone at a four-top. Later, a group of four older people arrived and signed in for a table. The waitress then asked me to move to a smaller table. Maybe I'm being overly sensitive, but I couldn't help but feel singled out. Recently Apple announced the launch of the iPhone 11. Going to flapjack's was sort of like going back to the iPhone 5. It seems terrific when you look at it when you dive in the breakfast makes it just a mediocre cafe. Located in a strip mall on Venice Avenue, there is plenty of convenient offstreet parking. The ambience is spot on and in fact I would call it hip/ trendy - The strange part is how quiet the room is. It would be a good place to work by yourself on your computer. But it's so quiet, everyone in the Restaurant can hear your conversation. Service was terrific and our server got us in and out quickly and kept our coffee cups filled. Now for the food, the word is mediocre. I had the breakfast #3, ham, scrambled eggs and pancakes. Nothing special about any of these items whatsoever. Extremely basic with no flair. It was very straightforward. I liked the restaurant and I wish I could say something unique or outstanding about the food but I can't. If you're in the neighborhood and need a quiet place to sit down eat, this would fit the bill, but I wish I could come up with some accolades for the food. Salute! read more

Nice large menu at extremely reasonable prices with hot coffee. Absolutely delicious! The two eggs with real chunks of chocolate chips generously loaded in my short stack pancakes and with a small up charge the 3 thick slices of Taylor Ham were heavenly. I went with the Cajun Chicken Salad ($9.90). It came with grilled chicken, tomatoes, red onions, cucumbers, jalapenos, and cheddar cheese with ranch dressing. The salad as a whole was tasty. There was plenty of chicken, but was not that spicy. It was appetizing. I also tried the southern omelet which consisted of sausage, onions, cheddar with sausage gravy. It also came with peppers, but the person I was with chose not to get them. This was great and hearty. The sausage gravy and cheese really made this omelet. We have been visiting Venice for several years now but hadn't sampled the local breakfast places until our recent trip in December 2021. Flapjacks is a small restaurant in little strip of businesses. We stopped in for breakfast in a weekday. The majority of the other customers were regulars and we overheard the one older gentleman talking with the server and he apparently eats there every day. That's always a good sign when you try a new place We tried the PB&J Pancakes and the Elvis Pancakes. The PB&J had peanut butter chip and blueberries in them. The Elvis had peanut butter chips, bananas, and bacon in them. Both were very different and both were very good. I'd never had peanut butter chips in pancakes before but I will definitely do so again! We had great service and will be sure to eat here again on a future Venice visit. read more

Hubby & I frequent the restaurant and usually order breakfast & enjoy it, plus the coffee is good. We stopped in today & noticed our favorite waitresses weren't there. I order the daily special, a summer salad (spinach, blueberry, strawberry, red onion, feta cheese & carmelized pecans.) I asked to omit the onions. The salad was pretty small & was loaded with onions. When they replaced it, it had loads of spinach & a small scattering of the toppings. I ate the topping & a decent amount of the spinach, but left a big heap of spinach. I explained that I was dissatisfied overall by the lack of toppings & the overage of spinach. Manager would not agree to remove it from the bill. She said she discounted it a dollar only since I picked around & ate the toppings. Not $10 worth for sure. She would not remove it from the bill. This place is an absolute gem. I visit Venice several times a year and am looking to move there. This little joint is definitely my go to for breakfast multiple times each visit. It's owned by a local veteran, which is automatically a bonus for me. The location is small and the capacity is not the best, but that doesn't stop this place from turning over tables quickly. Everytime I go, I experience the best breakfast that Venice can offer. While I haven't had their lunch, I can imagine it's delicious. The prices are extremely affordable for the portions you get. I usually have a bill of about 23 bucks for 2 people and we are both stuffed. The young waitress that works there busts her butt to keep everyone happy and the owner frequently comes out of the kitchen to meet his customers and thank them for coming in. The food is wonderful! If you're getting breakfast, you HAVE to try the home fries....listen, I didn't say they were good...I said you HAVE to try them. Phenomenal is all I can say. Go here.
