Instead, I called the nearest Sprouts store in Avenel, New Jersey. Melisha Webber, the head cashier, answered. From her first words, she was understanding. It was clear she wanted to help. Even though Instacart had made the errors - no refrigeration and lack of notice - she wanted to make it right. "Tell me what you had,": she said. "Please come here and we'll give you fresh items." She didn't know me. She didn't ask for proof. She just wanted to do the right thing. During a break in my schedule, I drove to Sprouts. When I asked for Melisha, two clerks already knew my name.
