Update: I spoke to a manager at this location, who graciously provided a solution to our gift card issue. I am still disappointed by the lack of response from the corporate office on this matter, but the Edison location was extremely helpful in resolving my issue. Initial review: My wife and I have been going to True Food Kitchen for a while now, and really enjoy their healthy food options, but their recent lack of customer service is very disappointing. We recently purchased a gift card for True Food Kitchen but when we had problems with it, the local restaurant wasn't able to do anything. We reached out to the company they parner with for the gift cards, who told us to reach out to corporate. I left two voicemails with True Food corporate with no response, in addition to leaving email with no response either. I would appreciate it even if they couldn't do anything that they would at least get back to us and let us know that, but nothing. I commend True Food for offering such healthy eating options for people but without good customer service, I can't see it really lasting for long. read more

The Host (Beautiful Joycelyn), our waitress (Azyah) & Rick the Manager was excited to serve us. The food was a blast of flavors, deliciousness & light to the taste. The Food Starter: Edamame Dumplings, Salad: Organic Tuscan Kale, & main course: Vegan Double Cheeseburger (WOW‼). I would recommend this to everyone for sure. This is not my first time here, but my husband really didn't like it last time we went. He decided to give it another chance. NOTE: Be very careful about using any dining credits from Open Table here. I saved up points for like a year and got a measly $16. When deciding on which restaurant to choose for Brunch today, we noticed True Food was in the Open Table network, so I would be able to use the credit there. When we arrived the place was pretty empty. Strange for the time of day. Bad sign #1. They walked us to a large table. The table was soaking wet and the hostess laid our paper menus on the puddle of water, never acknowledging the fact that the table was wet. Bad sign #2. I used my napkin to dry off the table and asked the waiter for another. He was very cordial. It was noon on a Saturday, so we assumed they would provide us with the Brunch menu (since that is why we came) and we had to ask for it - a measly 4 items on this menu, so options were few. Bad sign #3. Our server and the taste of the food were the only positive things about this trip. At the end of the meal, I followed the Open table directions and clicked on redeem in front of the waiter. It seems a Mastercard number pops up and since the server nor the manager knew how to do the dining credit, she said it was declined and could give me a 10% discount. Our meal was only $30, maki g that like $3 I said that I had to use the dining credit here since I booked our reservation which is tied to the credit and I would lose the dining credit. The manager was very demeaning and I reminded her that I can't use this credit anywhere else and that the whole reason for choosing this restaurant today was because of the Open Table credit. She then asked me to stop yelling at her. I, at no time in this conversation, raised my voice. I just stated the fact that I will lose $16 if they don't use it here. She said I could use it elsewhere and I reiterated that was not true and asked if she could contact open table to see why it won't go through. She said no because they are a third party and it is not their responsibility. After a while back and forth on this, she then said, I told you I would take $16 off the bill so you can use that elsewhere. When I reminded her that she said only 10% before she again said to stop yelling at me and I am just trying to make you happy. My husband said, does she look happy? After that she basically kicked us out of the restaurant. I will never return to this location ever again after being treated this way, like I was some criminal trying to get over them over a lousy $16. Walked into a rather empty restaurant primarily because it is a large space bright with lot of natural light so the limited seats that were occupied made it look relatively empty Chris was our sever and he was spot on with recommendations Edamame dumplings- low on salt n acidity dumplings had pronounced truffle flavor . They had great music playing but the high ceilings and hard surfaces make for super-acoustics. We could hardly hear each other or the waiter. I've come to true foods kitchen multiple times, mostly with my brother who tries to eat very healthy. I've come with my son each time and they have a nice little kids menu that he really enjoys that I think is reasonably priced. I usually come here for breakfast so I haven't tried their lunch items, but all of their breakfast items have been very good. I recently got the hash and it was a great choice. I've had their pineapple spritzer here which is the pineapple juice and Seltzer. Which I really liked and at the same time I felt like was a little overpriced for what it was. The atmosphere here is pretty clean. It does look like a train restaurant which is a chain so not inherently a deterrent but I would say it is very bright in there which is nice. The service here has also been very good. Brother was asking about something that another one of their locations had and the server went asked the manager who is willing to call that location to see if they can make it. While my brother didn't take them up on it because he just wanted to see if they did have it I thought it was really great on their part to be willing to try, which I don't think a lot of places would have done. Had dinner with the family here last night and it was ok. Nice open rustic atmosphere and spacious layout. Kinda like if Tommy's tavern took a whole foods / wegmans turn. The menu showed a lot of vegan and grass fed type of options. Everything was a little bit pricey but as the saying goes you get what you pay for. I had the southwest steak and it was cooked well at medium rare. Not too charred too, which I appreciate. It tasted like NY strip. In fact it was very similar to the ny steaks sold at costco in terms of thickness. Not the biggest portion size, I would estimate it at 10 ounces. A lot of tendon, which I personally don't mind. The accompanying beans and rice were very salty though the flavor was good. It was overpriced in my opinion at $40. The grilled chicken panini was good aside from the burnt bread. The chicken was flavorful and not dry. With a side of fries it came out to $20 which isn't bad. The tuna poke bowl was also decent - it shared the same rice and beans as the steak dish but also had some avocado and other greens. Portion size was decent Our mocktail drinks were decent not great. We had the ginger one and the strawberry lemonade. Our server was ok, not friendly but angry either. Not completely absent nor very attentive though. The server checked on us once after we got our food. Gave us a single menu to share to look at desserts. For lunch today, I decided to try True Kitchen Near the Menlo Park wall in Edison New Jersey. It has been here for a while, and I didn't know anything about it until recently. I read how they do not use any seed oil in their cooking. The vibe the atmosphere Is relaxing, the service is friendly and efficient and the food is absolutely delicious. This was our first time being here. We read the profile of the place from their website. A little pretentious, if you ask me. But, was the food as good and worth it? Let's find out. The place was bright and clean. The chairs, however, were not comfortable to my liking. They were made of a thin metal frame with rattan woven into the seat and backrest. Nothing wrong with that. But the angle of the seat made me uncomfortable. You had to move to the edge of the seat and lean forward to be able to properly eat your food. The pressure of my upper thigh and glutes against that metal frame was not pleasant. The staff was nice and friendly. That's always a good thing. Onto the food. The food was good, not great. Their portions were not fulfilling, either. Maybe because everything was "organic", as they proudly advertised, the food sizes were generally smaller. The prices were also a bit high. I had the Pot Roast French Dip. It was flavorful. But for $25, I was expecting to be satisfied. I wasn't. When I got home, I still had to eat something just to stop my cravings. My son liked his burger. But, he didn't find it anything special. The same goes for my wife's Korean Glass Noodles (their take on Jap Chae). Would I go back? Probably not. I am celiac, so eating out safely is a medical necessity for me. After three visits, I no longer feel comfortable trusting this restaurant with gluten-free orders. While the first two visits raised concerns, I gave them another chance because I wanted to support a place offering gluten-free options.
