When I was really young, staying with my grandparents, the only options for groceries up here were Lakeview Market or Nice Market, or if you wanted to drive to Lakeport you could go to Bruno's. Well as time has passed much has changed. Mar-Val Sentry Market opened a couple decades ago, I guess, making it much easier to get a good selection of groceries on this side of the lake. Now if you want to make the drive to Lakeport you can visit Safeway. My how things have changed! Back to Sentry... selection is good, staff are friendly, store is clean, and most importantly the location is convenient for those staying in Glenhaven, Lucerne, Nice, and Upper Lake. Prices are a bit on the high side, but the convenience makes it worth the extra cost! I'm sure when I'm up at the Lake, I'll be shopping at Sentry, just as I have this trip and many before.

It's nice to have a chain supermarket that has weekly specials and sales. The food quality when it comes to produce, bakery, and meats is all good. The customer service is good, as long as you can find a staff member to help. (Many of them are retrieving online orders). The store itself is pretty clean and is arranged in a fairly easy to navigate fashion. I'm sure I'll be back, especially for those $5 Friday deals and specials!

Even after I gave her my receipt, without reading my receipt she accused me a second time of NOT paying. Then after she read my receipt, she said "oh, have a nice day" and walked away. NO APOLOGY, NOTHING! This is not the only run-in I've had with this cashier, who's worked at this location for many, many years. About two weeks ago I was at self check-out paying for mine and my 85 year old neighbors things, that combined was 13 items. This same individual snidely approached me and stated how this was 15 items or less. I verbally counted in front of her 1, 2, 3, 4, 5........13. She just walked away. I'm a retired banker of 45 years, who always prided myself on customer service and like to carry myself in a pleasant, upbeat manner. I was well dressed today and actually received several compliments on what I was wearing, which was a maxi sun dress with a long shrug my sister bought me. So its not like I was in my pajamas carrying a backpack, looking suspicious. I frequently tell whoevers waiting on me that I'm appreciative for them being there, cause I know how CRAZY that line of work can be. As a loyal and faithful Safeway customer my whole adult life, I find this individual excessively inappropriate on so many levels.

If you need beach essentials and don't feel like heading another 5 miles down the road, then this is the place to stop in. The store carries an array of items such as: flip flops, floaties, sunblock, fishing supplies, picnic snacks, cold drinks, ice, toiletries, etc. Also great if you want to pickup some ice cream to cool off. I really love the all natural fruit bars that don't contain artificial colors or flavors...super yummy! The store is small, but well stocked and is perfect if you don't feel like driving 30 minutes to Ukiah or the opposite way towards Lakeport (the nearest convenience store is about 5 miles away). Street parking is available on Irvine Avenue or in their lot. I go there for the flowers (for my lovely wife)--you can pick your own bouquet of fresh flowers and only spend a couple bucks for a nice bunch of 'em! Their prices are dirt cheap, and the old folks who run the place are always so nice. A very cool little place that I wish Lake County had more of!
