Especially since a change in ownership, our current dog shows no apprehension about being dropped off and is happy and healthy when we pick her up even after a week. Her coat is in good condition there, she has been active and her behavior is normal. The staff are long standing, friendly and take good care of the dogs. We boarded our German Shepard here while we went out of town over the Christmas holiday. When using a different kennel previously, our dog would come home very hyper and needy as though he didn't receive much attention or was cooped up the whole time, but coming home from Uppity Pup our boy was happy, calm and relaxed! The staff was extremely helpful and friendly, and we appreciated that there was a questionnaire that we filled out to give them insight to our dogs needs and personality. The facility was very clean with a large open play area, and we observed staff playing with the dogs when we both dropped off and picked up. Don't count on them to board your dog when they schedule you. They didn't tell me my dog was a problem for them until two weeks before my next scheduled boarding in the middle of a busy summer. So they canceled my reservation and it is too late for me to find a place that isn't booked. I had several trips panned and now I have to cancel, flights, promises to be there, a doctor's appointment out of town that I waited a month for. Surprise! Next time don't agree to a schedule if you don't want to take a pet and try to work with a person and their dog. I had no clue you were having problems. read more

DO NOT BRING YOUR DOGS HERE! NEGLECT AND ABUSE! I wish I could give them zero stars. I have been bringing my dogs here for two years. They were recommended to me by my mom who has brought her dog here for four years. I loved this place. It is always hard to leave your dogs- and I used to feel comfort in knowing that my dogs were well taken care of and out playing and making friends all day. I trusted them so much that I drive two hours from the Bay Area to bring my pups here. My last couple visits have been different with some rude staff members. Through the grapevine (all of my parent's friends who bring their dogs here) I heard that they were hiring new staff and felt comfortable enough to bring my dogs there for my 11 day vacation. I returned this week from vacation and picked my dogs up an hour after opening. When my first dog was brought out (why wasn't he out playing with the other dogs?) his tail was between his legs and he looked terrified. Normally when I pick up the dogs they are happy, tails-wagging, and don't want to leave. This was my first red flag something was wrong. As soon as I got in the car, I turned around to kiss my babies and saw two huge scabs on my Dane staring me in the face. I immediately jumped out of the car, got Linda, and asked her what happened to my dog. She came out and looked at his wounds. I was worried he was attacked or fell. Upon further inspection we found 4 large scabs on all of his legs. Because of their symmetry Linda told me that he most likely developed a skin disease. Really? I drove him straight to the vet where my vet diagnosed them as pressure sores- the equivalent of bed sores to us humans. In addition to the 4 large ones spotted in the car we found 5 more- on his elbows, feet, and tail. To top it off, the larger sores are all infected. He will now be on antibiotics for the next month. These developed because he was locked in his kennel for most of the day. I asked my vet how long it would take for these to develop and he confirmed my fears: he had been left in there the majority of the day. When I left the vet, I called Linda to tell her what the scabs were. As the owner, I expected to be apologized to profusely. Instead I was met with denial while she threw every excuse at me including blaming me. Below are a few of the awful things she said to me: - The sores are due to bad breeding. - I am the one that left my dogs there so long - It is ridiculous to expect that my dog will get the same treatment the busiest week of the year compared to the rest of their stays. After asking repeatedly how NO ONE noticed these, she agreed to refund my $540, but will not pay my vet bills. I just do not understand how of all the staff- if he is really getting the attention that I am being told he is getting- no one noticed his wounds. Because of their lack of care and attention, he developed the wounds AND they allowed them to become infected. Both of my dogs smell like urine and feces... it is much worse than the normal smell they bring home after a stay here. With my pup's sores in addition to their smell, I have to assume that they were left in their much longer than what Linda is swearing to. My Dane now, after 3 days is still walking around on egg shells. The breed itself is a very sensitive and emotional breed. He is terrified, flinching, and whining non-stop. My high-energy lab also seems very sad. Neither of these behaviors are normal for them after being picked up from "puppy camp." I question whether or not they fed my dogs regularly as both appear much thinner. My Dane went in weighing 105 lbs and weighed in at the vet 11 days later at 93 lbs. I am disgusted with the treatment my dogs received. If you are like me, and love your dogs as a family member, DO NOT bring them here. Linda should be ashamed of her business and the treatment she and her staff give to these animals. You have betrayed not only your client's trust, but the dogs who are trapped with you while their humans are away. SHAME ON YOU. read more

Where do I begin? I am now "eating my words" of my previous post giving them 4 stars. I now give them 1 STAR Boy was I fooled into thinking that the dogs that are boarded here were treated with the same care as the daycare dogs. WRONG!! Daycare dogs get to stay out on the floor ALL day long. Boarded dogs DO NOT go out onto the main floor. They are taken out potty 2 or 3 times a day, out back... that is it. They DO NOT get to exercise, nor run around and play. Clients are mis-led and told otherwise. If your dogs require any medication, good luck with that. My Sheltie had a bad ear infection and required ear drops twice a day in her ear... that was not done at Uppity Pup and required me to take her back to the vet for yet more drops. Vet wasn't too happy. Nor was I. My dogs will NOT be back at Uppity Pup for daycare, or boarding. Urine coated blanket/pillow- I got that too. Blanket was handed to me in a white plastic bag, full of urine and a piece of dried poop. This place has really gone down hill- which is too bad. I am now taking my dogs elsewhere, where I know they get the true quality care they deserve and that my money pays for. If you take "treats" to be given to your dog (s), be aware- the owner does not allow those treats to be given to them, if they are not on her "list" of decent food / treats to be given to a dog. I love my dogs and I love their vet & I trust his word on the proper food & treats to be given to them, not some random list. The "provided kennel food" is not Diamond Brand.. it is "left over" dog food that is left from other dogs, who have been boarded there. Not just Diamond Brand food.. that is very misleading. The photos on the website are old. There is no longer play equipment for the dogs to play on, nor are there toys on the floor for them to play with. The owner does not like them to bark, while playing with them. In the summer, when it is extremely hot- the kennel area is VERY hot. Air conditioning is rarely turned on & instead, 2 small fans are used, to blow air around the entire kennel. I usually make it a habit to not post anything unless it is positive, but I would like to save other people the trauma of taking their pets to this horrible place. When our normal pet sitter flaked on us at the last minute before vacation, we thought we'd try this place out. The man at the front desk was incredibly rude, but I gave him the benefit of the doubt thinking maybe he'd had a bad day. When I told him I forgot my dog's leash and if that was okay, he said, "What do YOU think?" Not a good start, considering I'd never boarded my pup before. When I picked her up, there was a big line of people getting their dogs. When it was my turn, there was no greeting, no update on how she did, but I got yelled at by a strange lady for being late. I was 10 minutes early. When I explained that fact, she said she already put "him" away for the night. I said, well, you can go get HER please. She stomped away and put her in the crate, handed me back four bags of food. This meant she WAS NOT FED four times! I had to tell them I needed to pay, and there was no thank you, no have a nice day, nothing. The only saving grace was a nice young girl who helped me to my car. My poor dog looked terrified. If I was treated so badly, I can only imagine how they treated her! Please do yourself a favor and avoid this place at all costs. I hope they shut down. read more

in response to Linda's comment: I had a tour of the facility (by a woman who said she was the owner) before my dog stayed there. I noticed that there was a pit bull in a pen all my himself, and another pit bull in his kennel in the back, while all the other dogs were in the large room together. I asked about it, and was told that Pit Bulls are not allowed to be with the dogs in the large playgroup, they are too much of a liability if they start a fight. That is exactly what I was told, I accepted it as fact since the woman said she was the owner. Was I somehow "misinformed"?? Just trying to be honest here, which is the way I operate. You may ACCEPT all dogs, but they are not ALL treated the same, and in my book THAT is discrimination. read more

Very pleased with the way our beloved dog was cared for. Boarded our 85lb, 7 year old, bernese mongrel for 20 days. They followed our instructions and gave him his meds and treats, we provided since it was a very long stay. My dog had choice of staying with the pack or privacy in his kennel. I have been bringing my dogs here for five or six years, and I have always been thrilled with the service I have received. At one point, I had a pitbull-mix (very pittie looking) and a Chow coming here for daycare, and when I picked them up, at no appointed time, both were out with the other dogs. Now I have a lab and two little ankle-biters (figuratively) who have been in both the day care and also boarded. When I give them blankets, the blankets come back to me washed and dried. They feed whatever diet I provide. The two little dogs are very shy and not terribly social, so the staff at Uppity Pup take care to visit them in their kennel and to let them out only when things aren't crazy on the floor. The facility has always been a comfortable temperature when I visit. My lab used to go to another boarding facility in Shingle Springs. When I first took him there, he was happy and excited to go. After a few months, I almost had to drag him in through the front door. I finally found out that the owner's dog was a bully and that the owner let him get away with it. It took my dog a long time to get over that bad association (and he still has issues with not particularly liking the company of other dogs) there, but I am happy to report that he goes to Uppity Pup willingly (albeit with that look they give you that makes you feel like they are abandoning them). When I pick him up, he is typically happy and tired. When I have to travel for extended periods, I always ask (and get) special arrangements so that my two little dogs can be within visual range of my lab. I usually bring refrigerated homemade food, and I once had to bring a week's worth of meds, as I had a dog (the pitbull) who was still being treated for a rattlesnake bite. Everything was done as I instructed, and I have even had the staff call me about feeding when my instructions were not clear. The staff doesn't typically volunteer information about how my dogs did, when I pick the pups up, but if I ask, I get a detailed answer, which means someone is paying attention. Recently, I asked about socializing the two less-than-social pups in my keeping, expressing my concern that if something happened to me, I would want the dogs to have a good chance of being adopted, and that they would not show well at a pound if they were terrified. The owner said very simply and sincerely that I didn't have to worry about that, because her staff would assist in the placement of any of their clients' dogs, should it be necessary. I don't know if that is true or not, but she didn't have to say it, and it made me feel very good about using their services. In short, I have never had a bad experience here, with five dogs and approximately five years worth of both daycare and boarding. read more

My dog spent the last weekend boarded and when I picked him up-He was happy and the staff knew many things about his personality that I knew they had to have spent time with him. The place is very clean and very professional. I do not leave my dog often, the last time was at Uppity Pup over 6 years ago, however-I wouldn't dream of taking him anywhere else. We love Uppity Pup! We have been taking our five year old German Shepherd there once a week for daycare ever since she was nine months old. We have recently added an eight month old German Shepherd puppy to our family and now they both go together. They get to socialize with other dogs and learn to interact with them and the get to burn off a bunch of energy too. They have a ton of fun there and they always come home tired! Also the owner and staff are great people, they love our dogs and treat them really well. We are very comfortable leaving our dogs there and I would highly recommended Uppity Pup!!! read more

Our experience here was very disappointing. I can say I fairly waited for a response from the owner to see if she'd do the right/fair thing, but I have yet to hear from her. We recently took our dogs to Uppity Pup for boarding for the 2nd time (used this place about 3 years ago also), they stayed on this visit for 5 days and we picked them up on a Monday. Dropping them off was immediately frustrating, 2 men were working and the one checking us in was irritated and had no patience. Our dogs are timid because of the breed and again they've only been boarded once ever before this visit. The man grabbed and yanked the dogs in, picking up our 50lb dog and yanking the other so hard her collar came off her head. Never greeted, said hello, pet or let them smell him. Had we not been fully packed/booked on our trip we would have not left them. I went to pick them up Monday. The lady started telling me how they were so timid, hardly ate, had bloody stool from the stress and only were allowed out on leash alone because they were looking at the fence like they were going to jump it. Ok I asked her if she was the owner and she said yes. I told her about the drop off experience and how I'm really disappointed because last time the dogs did better, they were out on the floor playing with the other dogs even. I know my dogs are timid, but they are very friendly, eat well (I did expect them to eat less though because of the new environment) but have never looked at a fence to jump or try to jump a fence. She gave us $20 a night off the bill, which was nice but still as expensive as the visit was, to hear they basically stayed in back the whole time is still quite frustrating. We left with no dog food given back to us even though she said they hardly ate (last time we came home with several bags of food leftover). Didn't notice until I was home. To top off everything the next day all 3 of my dogs have kennel cough (the first time we visited, they also came home with kennel cough but I thought it was a fluke). After 2 hrs waiting for the vet visit and getting meds for all 3 we are out $251 plus the $250 for the boarding costs (not to mention the bordatella vaccines which this place requires, not sure why when they end up with it anyways). My dogs are miserable, coughing constantly, having to lay around and be calm to not aggravate the cough and have to be given meds 3 times daily for 7days. I went by to talk to the owner after the vet visit, she wasn't there so the girl said she'd pass the message along and was coming in around 1pm. Funny part is this girl told me actually all the dogs did eat the food, only one dog had to be leashed and even the little dog came out to play on the floor. Now who's telling the truth?? I'm getting conflicting stories. Owner still hasn't called. We are out $500 for crappy service and sick dogs because of this place. We will NEVER visit Uppity Pup again, and I highly recommend you to also not visit. If you do, I hope you have a better experience than I did! For that amount of money I will pay someone from now on to come to my home and care for my pets. So frustrated with Uppity Pup. Business owners should never treat their customers this way, sad. I will never recommend this local business to anyone. We never got a call, so my husband called today and just happen to catch the owner. She immediately greeted him by saying I don't know what you want, all you're doing is complaining, said we don't know about animals and she reviewed the cameras and nothing they did was in the wrong. She said the county already knows that kennel cough was going around there but our dogs were already there, she asked do you get money back if your kid gets sick from school, my husband said no but if a sickness was running rampant through the school we would be notified & we don't pay the school to keep our kids all day/over night while we are on vacation. She told us we don't know how to vaccinate our dogs, which is completely untrue, our dogs are always up to date on their shots, the only one we got that was new was the bordatella because we don't normally board our dogs but we got it within the time range that Uppity Pup requires in their policy! She was completely rude, insulting and ignorant the entire conversation. She had absolutely no intention of calling us back even to apologize for our experience, said her staff doesn't tell her who she calls & doesn't call back. The whole conversation with the "owner" was completely shocking to hear. I don't know who treats their customers this way, never experienced anything like this. We paid Uppity Pup to care for our babies while we were on vacation, a service that they list as a service they provide but we did not receive quality care, we didn't even receive minimal care or consideration. We have never had complaints like this, this is all new for us but we did expect Uppity Pup to take care of our dogs and treat them well, something that just wasn't provided at all. read more

Nooooo, keep looking! Encouraged by the reviews, I boarded my dog for a week. Her kennel was a cement floored pen in the back of the business, out of view. According to staff, she was "walked" daily. I asked that she be allowed to be in the separate pen where she could see but not interact with the other dogs due to her lack of socialization. I was told this did not happen. When I picked her up, she was brought to me through a backdoor while I waited outside. She was cowering with her tail between her legs; and was so fearful she didn't even seem to recognize me at first. My dog has never had an accident, and yet her blanket was damp with urine. There was dog food (not hers!) stuck to the blanket. Heartbreaking to realize my sweet girl spent a tramatic week locked up in a cage in a back room. read more

I have used this facility many times with no complaints, but over this last Thanksgiving my dogs (2) stayed there for 3 days and when I picked them up, the facility stunk of urine, my dogs were just reeking of urine, and their bedding was soaked. I picked this place for my 4 dogs to stay during Thanksgiving because of the great reviews from Mountain Democrat. What a mistake! My 2 dogs did ok, except they did not give 1 their medicine as requested but for my 2 small dogs, it was horrible. The guy who works there was unfriendly and didn't seem to give a hoot about animals. I called to check on my dogs repeatedly and no one picked up the phone or returned my calls. Finally, I got thru and the gal told me my 2 small dogs were not eating, not drinking water and would not come out of the kitty carrier I brought them in! You would think someone would call me? No, they did not, she said they were full of dogs so they put them in a kennel in the back. My little dog did not receive any of her meds and when I got her home, she had diarrhea and was throwing up for days. This place is a night mare, DO NOT BRING YOUR PETS THERE! My two dogs are my babies and I would say I'm pretty paranoid about their care. Matilda is part pit and Max is American Bulldog, both breeds have undeserved bad reputations but they have never not been welcomed at Uppity Pup. We have been taking them to Uppity Pup since it first opened. They go for both day care and boarding, It's clean, it's air conditioned. They make sure the dogs vaccinations are up to date before they stay which is really important to me. Linda and Dan really love dogs, their staff are dog people. The prices are really reasonable. We recently got a puppy and needed a doggy daycare to get a break from her for a couple of hours. Found Uppity Pup in Diamond Springs. It's a huge warehouse with a huge space for play, 2 fenced off areas to separate the dogs. Very clean and organized. The owner is sensitive to pairing the dogs for playtime. Always lots of happy clean playmates for play. We have taken her back a couple of times now and are pleased with her attitude when we pick her up. Next vacation we will try the boarding facilities. My Basset Hound Tag has been going to Uppity Pup since he was 8 months old! He loves going there and I love sending him there once a week! The staff treat him like he is one of their own and I never have to worry about him because I know they will take such good care of him. They are so in tune with him that if he is not acting like himself they will let me know so I can keep an eye on him. Tag always runs into Uppity Pup extremely excited and he leaves all tuckered out from an intense day of running around like a crazy man with all the other dogs. The most important thing about doggy day care is that you trust the people that are handling your dog because the dogs are our family and we do not just hand them over to anyone. The thing that has kept Tag going back to Uppity Pup is how much they care, the staff and other dogs really do become a part of your family and for that I am very grateful for! I liked the staff and customer service at this kennel! They seemed very attentive to my dog. Unfortunately though, I have spent twice as much to board my dog because she caught kennel cough here! When I called, Linda, the person I talked to indicated that they had had the problem earlier in the summer but nothing recently! Yikes! I would have never board my dog here if I knew. I was told they cannot promise that your dog won't get kennel cough. My dog had the vaccine! That means there was rampant infection there. Beware! You will not be reimbursed anything! We started taking our Great Pyrenees mix there to socialize with other dogs when he was about 7 months old. We drop him off and pick him up at random times and everytime we walk in all the dogs are being closely watched and well cared for. The dogs play together and our pup always comes home happy and tired. We have also boarded him there a couple of time and he comes back looking clean and well taken care of. This place is awful. As a very picky dog mom I came here to pick up my two dogs only to find no one at the front desk which left me waiting for a good 20 minutes. I peeked around the corner to see where everyone was and I witnessed an older gentleman kicking an elderly female lab who wouldn't go into her kennel. I screamed at him and demanded for a manager. As if that wasn't bad enough, when someone FINALLY brought me my babies, my albino boxer had clearly been given medication (and I didn't leave him with any at all). His eyes were glazed over and he was drooling excessively. I WAS LIVID. I wouldn't recommend this place to anyone. They are horrible horrible horrible. This place is dirty and I will not be returning. I took my small dog here for the weekend, was told she needed a kennel cough pill that I paid for. When I picked up my smelly, drool-stained pup (never a problem previously), she had kennel cough. The kennels are spacious and immaculate, the dogs have plenty of places to run and play, and I especially love the couch area! Linda has always treated my dog like one of her own and I know Takoda loves to go! There are so many different dogs there and they all get along. From the smallest toy breeds to the St Bernards, they play well together and my girl is always super tired when we pick her up. I love knowing she is having the time of her life while I am away and you can't put a price on that piece of mind. I would recommend Uppity Pup to anyone who needs doggie day care or boarding services, and if I could take my horse there too I would!
