You are given the pricing up front. The price we paid was quite reasonable, especially considering it's a licensed, insured, and bonded business with employees, vs random independent contractors. 2 different gals came to our house to care for our cats while we were gone - Amy and Payton. Both were prompt and took good care of our cats. Amy was exceptionally kind and stayed longer than she was booked for - just to play with our cats! We really appreciated this, since it was our first night away and I know our cats were feeling anxious. It was such a relief to have a business available to us to come to our house to take care of our animals! While I'm sure there are tons of great pet sitters on the various 3rd party pet sitting sites , we would've been too nervous. Being able to hire a business to send people to our house was a big relief! We will absolutely be using them again in the future. read more

I've been searching for a professional pet sitter for over a year, and had a great first conversation with the owner Tamara. She does pet sitting herself, but also set me up with a pet sitter in another town when I'm in that area. I was impressed with her contracted sitter during our meet and greet. When a last minute need for sitting in Placerville arose, I contacted Tamara and she was able to accomodate my request. Upon arrival I noticed that the facility was very well organized, safe and set up for multiple dogs. I noted that she is extremely experienced with dogs and well versed in behavior. She is very personable and walked me around and explained how her boarding works and the different areas for the dogs. Tamara made me very comfortable leaving my pet while I ran errands for the day. The facility is set up very well for overnight boarding too. My dog had a great time at Happy Tails with Tamara's Great Dane and other guests. I would definitely return. Reached out to the business and woman we had the incident with - never got a response so I'm posting here so others don't have the same experience.... We have two poodle mutts and were seeking overnight, in-home care for an upcoming trip. Reached out to the owner who connected me with a watcher (D) in my area. After some back and forth, we confirmed a date for a meet and greet to ensure it was a good match before leaving them overnight. Upon entry into the home, I heard two large dogs and one small barking. D took me and my pups (BW and B) straight out into the fenced backyard, where we let them wander around with their leashes still on, just in case. I explained their personalities and quirks, including B's "Napoleon" attitude with new, large dogs. I was nervous about going further because no one had told me there were even dogs at this property. But D assured me that her large dog was a "mentor dog" and that BW/B could do "anything" to her, and she wouldn't respond. I reiterated to D that B wouldn't hurt a fly, but if a big dog got into his space, he may inadvertently start a fight that he couldn't finish. And D reiterated that her dogs would be fine, but let's keep leashes on to be safe. At this point, I should have listened to my gut and left, but D kept reassuring me and reminding me how much experience she has with dogs, so I let the appointment continue. D brought out her big dog (off leash) to meet BW/B. B got a little feisty when she came over to sniff him, but all in all, it went fine. All three followed each other around the yard, peeing on each other's markings. Then D brought out her small dog (also off leash and being held). Once this dog joined the pack, the energy just changed. It wouldn't stop barking, which was agitating the other dogs. The big dog then got in B's face (nothing aggressive just a little too close). B nipped her away. And the big dog attacked B. She had B's head/neck in her mouth and was thrashing him on the ground. D was unable to remove her (and was still holding the little dog) so I separated them. B was bleeding from multiple wounds and both dogs were shaking. I asked D to put her dogs inside and bring us a towel. Once I had B wrapped up, I took him immediately to the hospital where they treated him for open puncture wounds in his neck and top of head, as well as a tear in his ear that required sutures. D tried to stop me by saying it didn't look that bad, but I bolted for the front door and my car. My vet bill was $494.11 and B was in a cone for nearly two weeks (and on several medications). He's made a full recovery, but now he's traumatized by big dogs, including friends of ours that have been "friends" with him for years. I'm actually grateful 1) that we had a home visit because if we had just left them over vacation, I'm sure that big dog would have killed B as D was in no physical condition to remove her big dog, and 2) that I didn't have my 6-month-old son with me who would have either gotten hurt or had been traumatized - with B very likely been killed since I wouldn't have had my hands free to remove them. I should have removed my dogs from the situation much sooner, but D kept reiterating how well-behaved her big dog was and how much experience she had handling dogs. But that proved untrue in this situation, and B paid for it. BOTTOM LINE: You know your dogs better than anyone else on this planet. Ask all questions up front, and leave the second something doesn't feel right. And don't expect this company to apologize or pay for any negative incidents. read more

I have a pretty sensitive, sometimes aggressive, 30 lbs staffie mix who can be quite the handful. Some months ago I contacted Tamara about beginning walking services, very nervous and concerned about how they would handle my dog who has more than his fair share of stranger danger. Tamara let me know her husband would also be involved with him, which made me a little extra nervous, as he is extra frightened of men. Turns out that Tamara and Jerry were literal angels and my Moose fell for both of them immediately. Reliable, endlessly kind and extremely fair priced, I cannot recommend them enough. They were patient with him, gave him so much love and TLC that I never had any concerns about the kind of care he would have with them. Not only that, he would get excited when I would tell him his friends were visiting, knowing that this meant seeing either Tamara or Jerry or if he was extra lucky, both. I cannot say enough about these two or the kind of business they run. If I wasn't moving I would continue to patron them for years to come. While we were in town camping we wanted to take a day trip to Tahoe to take our kids sledding but we didn't want to leave our young energetic dog locked up all day. We reached out to Tamara to see if she was available to have him at her house for the day. Lucky for us she said yes! Her facility was great and our dog had a young friendly golden retriever to play with all day. He was so exhausted when we picked him up at 6 pm that he fell asleep in the truck before we even left. While planning a 3 day trip to California's Gold Country for some camping, rafting and leisure I had the option of boarding my dog here in San Francisco ($100+ per day) or taking her with me. Naturally I wanted her to be on the trip with us, but my Standard Poodle surely wasn't going to be allowed on the raft, so that's where Tamara the owner of Happy Tails comes in. I found Happy Tails through craigslist, and thought I would start this Yelp listing to make it easier for other Urbanites, possibly planning similar adventures, to become aware of and use this terrific business. Tamara was at our campground at 6:30AM so we would have time to eat and meet our raft before 8AM and she looked after Roots until about 7PM that evening. I could hardly believe how inexpensive her service is, costing just $35 (w/ transport) before gratuity. Roots had the companionship of Tamara's two Great Danes, which we're very sweet to my relatively little 50lbs dog. Further discussion with Tamara had her blaming me for having elderly cat and not doing a walkthrough before I left (my mom became suddenly ill and died). Really, if you need to be walked through a 600 sq ft open floor plan to know how to give cats water you have no business being near animals. She also had her lawyer call and try to intimidate me. Neither my neighbors nor the apartment maintenance who were located across from my apartment ever saw the Erika besides the morning she picked up the key. THANK YOU, Nate K. for starting this Yelp listing! We were in a bind during Memorial Day weekend because the rafting company we booked with told us we couldn't bring our puppy to the property. So there we were, scrambling to find a nearby PetSmart Doggy Day Camp or pet sitter in the area, calling 4-5 other places near our hotel (mostly animal hospitals listed), and all of them don't open Sundays! Finally I find Happy Tails on Yelp, and as soon as I call, I could already tell this was a winner. I was greeted by a friendly, professional lady (assuming the owner) who answered my questions calmly (despite how last minute it was), and kept the booking process very simple so I didn't have to worry about filling out tons of paperwork. She passed my contact info to one of her boarders, who then sent me a text message a few hours later, I was able to confirm the booking in just 2-3 exchanges, then I received a confirmation email with an invoice and link to pay via PayPal. So easy, what a relief! And that was just the booking process. Aside from the small hiccup when my GPS wasn't able to find the boarder's home on our first try (rural area - lesson learned), the boarder helped direct us from where we were in time to drop off our pup and still get to our rafting reservation on time. The boarder was completely comfortable and at ease, even when my puppy started barking at her. When we picked our pup up at the end of the day, she was comfortable, relaxed, and slept soundly in the car ride home. In summary, Happy Tails was exactly what we needed, when we needed it. I am so pleased to have found Happy Tails! I was very nervous to have a "stranger" in our home, and taking care of our pets. Two of our three dogs are rescue dogs, and often take awhile to warm up to people. As soon as we met Cynthia, she felt like part of the family. The dogs are happy and secure with her, and are always calm and happy when we come home. She walks all three of them and handles difficult situations well. She gives us daily reports to let us know how things went. Tamara responds quickly to requests and communication is great. It never really seemed like Tamara was all that happy to set up pet sitting services for us and it seemed like she was trying to nickel and dime us way too much. I was on a camping trip and needed a sitter for my dog because she could not go rafting with us so I called a few places who wouldn't take her because they were either full or they didn't take unfixed females or she would be kenneled the entire time. I finally happened upon Happy Tails, they were so nice over the phone and willing to work with me to find the best place for my dog that close by. I believe the business model is one lady who knows a bunch of other people who will house sit or take in your dog. So I dropped my dog off at someone's house and met with her, she was super nice and even sent me pictures of her back yard before hand. It was nice knowing that some one was watching her and she seemed more comfortable at a house as opposed to a facility. When I picked her up she looked like she had a great time, apparently she played non-stop with her dog and had a good day. I LOVE Happy Tails Petsitting! I can't say enough great things about this business. The owner Tamara is awesome and always quick to respond when I am needing a last minute sitter for my 7 month old German Shepherd puppy Zoey. My puppy has been watched by Happy Tails since she was 3 months old and we have had nothing but AMAZING experiences. Our main pet sitter with Happy Tails is Lilly and she is located in Placerville. We absolutely LOVE Lilly!! She sends me picture/video updates throughout the day to show me how much fun Zoey is having. I have given her medications that Zoey needs to take throughout the day for numerous things, and she always keeps up on the medicine. She is the sweetest lady! Every single time I bring Zoey over she is SO excited to see her and Zoey is SO excited to see Lilly. Zoey has seperation anxiety and as soon as I pull in to Lilly's driveway, she jumps out of the car, sprints straight in to the house to Lilly, and could careless that I am leaving her for the day.
