I actually hate to give this business a bad review because it has quickly been becoming my favorite place to go . So today I decided to try the avocado toast and first let me get to yes it was terrible but I want to get to the server first who dropped my food off to me on my to-go order I have no clue who she is but for whatever reason she gave me the most disgusting fake smile with an attitude I have no clue why and then the avocado toast which I paid 1250 for the bread was so hard I couldn't eat it and it's a whole avocado it's not even like a puree it's not even real avocado toast so folks don't waste your money thinking you're getting some good avocado toast because of this is not it you're going to break a tooth I will be getting my money back. Really cute cafe that you wouldn't expect to be so busy. The chai tea latte was good as well as the cinnamon roll latte that my friend had. The seating options are also nice because you can go there alone or with a bigger group and still have seating options. It also looked like they had outdoor seating for when it's warmer outside. A friend recommended I try this restaurant. Went on a Saturday for brunch. There was a line but it moved quickly. You have to first place your order, get a number, sit wherever you want and wait for the food to be served. I ordered the Moroccan chickpea soup and the Mediterranean toast with an egg. The soup was delicious! Light, fragrant Moroccan spices without overpowering my palate. The chickpeas were cooked to perfection, not too hard but not mushy. The toast was good, not great. They didn't ask me how i wanted my egg cooked so to my disappointment it was sunny side up with the yolk cooked all the way instead of runny. My mistake for not mentioning it when i placed my order. I needed to figure out a place to meet a friend in Valpo on Sunday morning, so put my trust in Yelp and decided to meet her at Uptown Cafe. It was great! Nice location with plenty of parking. A private lot and street parking. We ordered our breakfast from the friendly guy behind the counter. We both ordered the lox and bagels and coffee drinks. I had a mocha and my partner had a cappuccino. We found a spot by the window and waited for our food. The coffee drinks came out fairly quickly and were delicious and beautifully prepared. Our bagels came out soon afterward (we enjoyed the free WiFi while we waited). The presentation was really nice and the food was great. Plenty of lox, bagels well toasted, generous thin slices of tomatoes, red onion and capers. Best lox and bagels we have had in Indiana. I was happy to see that there is also a Crown Point location since that is usually where I stay when I visit the Region. Looking forward to checking it out. read more

Went here for breakfast with my wife before she went to work on one of my Fridays off. We were looking for a new place to go for breakfast and this looked really good. Coffee selection was great, and they used a tea merchant my wife had never heard of but it was solid as well. We shared a scone, which was perfectly made. I had biscuits and gravy and it was top notch. Biscuits were scone-like, and the sausage gravy wasn't just water and flour. Or if it was, it was still great. High ceilings. I think we sat under a speaker that was playing some classic rock. I know for sure I heard "Smokin'" by Boston. Counter service, but helpful. This is such a nice cafe. I love supporting small local businesses. Ans that's exactly what this was. Went with a couple of friends during the week for lunch. It was crowded, but I take that as a good sign. Tho it was busy and crowded that did NOT stop the staff from being very friendly and patient. Nothing was a problem for them, and I truly appreciate that. It was our first time so we had many questions about the drinks. The cashier had no problem answering them. I wish I would of taken photos of my food but we were so hungry. The food was good and tasted very clean. They bring the food to your table after you order at the cashier. They even sell local owned soda/pop flavored. We bought a couple and they were actually pretty good. I will def come back to try their other plates. The tea was better than the bobas, and I'm not sure I would have missed much by going without, but that's probably just personal preference. The soups we ordered were outstanding, and so were the sandwiches. The cafe was buzzing with college students, study groups, and meet-ups. While it was freezing out, the indoor fireplace really kicked out the heat! Following our meal, we shared a coconut lime scone. I'm a big coconut fan, so I had high hopes. The scone quality was excellent, but there were only minor hints of lime and coconut to be found in each bite. I would have liked a bit more. This is the place to see and be seen for a weekday breakfast hangout for the Valparaiso power club. They have a great list of sandwiches and snacks. I really love their avocado toast and their BLT and the BLT upgrade with a sunnyside up egg, called the Mitch. The owner is behind the coffee bar most days so DONT piss off this barista he is not just a coffee maid, he is the brains behind alot of this wonderful location.
