My wife and I spent several days in Valparaiso to both visit her sister and introduce me to the town where both of them went to college. I had always wanted to go there and am very happy to say that I totally enjoyed the visit. While there, we ate most meals out. Le Peep was one of them. We came here for breakfast on our first full day in Valparaiso. It was pretty busy with people leisurely eating a late breakfast and lingering over some very good coffee. All of us ordered something different, but I can't remember what the others had. Unfortunately, I didn't get any pictures, which would have spurred my memory. I had a wonderful version of eggs Benedict. It was served on two crab cakes. The egg was perfectly poached. The hollandaise was perfectly crafted. The side of fruit was nice, although a bit crunchy in the melon department. I enjoyed the meal as a whole. Now, I have to say this: If I order crab cakes in a restaurant and they served these, I would send them back. They had a very nice crabby taste, but there was not one iota of evidence that crabs had been anywhere near the kitchen when they were made. It was all breading-no crab. But, in this dish, it was okay. The coffee was really good. They left a carafe at the table, which I pretty much drained with a one-cup assist from my sister in law. This place is huge on the inside. There's plenty of food to choose from. I got the biscuits & gravy and it tasted delicious. The gravy on it really makes it. So much that it didn't necessarily need the egg, but added protein. I also got their Chai. It's the perfect taste and isn't too sweet. The chicken and waffles is good as well but the chicken was a little overdone. The seasonings definitely help make it. My son also enjoyed his sausage, fruit, and eggs. The only issue we really ran into is that our server didn't seem to have the best day so she didn't ask if we needed any boxes and she wasn't in the most chipper mood since she was being short with us. I've been eating at Le Peep off and on over the years and have always had good food. This visit i opted for a lighter breakfast and got Avocado Toast which came with 2 eggs on top. The avocado toast is bad. Don't order this. For starters, everything was cold, including the toast and eggs. The "avocados" is a spread, not fresh slices or chunks. The sauce on top was tasty but they missed the mark on this dish. Why so many stars? I do recommend eating here and getting something else. Everyone in my party likes their meals. What a cute place to come and have some breakfast. First time coming here and decided to try their salmon bagel and loved the addition of avocado here. It was the perfect breakfast. So we decided to move our breakfast spot somewhere else. Well after the move to the new building we decided to give them another try. The new place is super cute. The front of house staff was very friendly, but sadly our server was abrupt and impersonal. Our meals were meh. I had the avocado toast. Typically when I get this at a restaurant it has an avocado mash on it. This was a "spread". Very thin and not fresh. The vinaigrette that topped the eggs was very tasty. The best place to go for breakfast in Valpo. I love their breakfast potatoes, crisp and flavorful. If you are not of fan of the little cubes of greatness, they also have the shredded potatoes. I usually try to stay a little healthy by getting the White Lighting. Grilled Chicken, Avocado, cheese, green Chile's, and tomatoes with egg whites. It also comes with a side of salsa. Skillets are great too. Biscuits N Gravy are just ok, but this isn't the South don't expect anything better. They also have freshly squeezed orange juice, not the store bought garbage.
