Not a big fan of the business model here, but the customer service has been great for the most part. I've always enjoyed talking to the employees here (except for one that was really rude). I'm disappointed in how little compensation they give for the clothes that you sell. I've sold some really nice brands of clothing that don't fit me anymore and got very little in return. Plato's closet is definitely my #1 choice for selling used clothes. They give way more cash in return and accept a broader variety of brands and types of apparel. Unfortunately there's only one plato's in Cary and Uptown is way closer to me. read more

I took two large bags of clothes. Several of them were only worn once or twice. They were not worn after washing. There may be folds, so they look a little old. There are also a few identical clothes, but the reception lady only accepts one of the same suspenders, and another skirt is brand new. The brand has not been torn off and put it at the bottom. But the lady at the front desk didn't even look at them carefully, so she randomly chose two pieces and gave me a dollars. And they told me you can take all of them back with you or leave it. The way talk (reaction and attitude ) are such rude. read more

I went to sell clothes and they said they didn't buy the items because of the condition but most of that bag was new and I never wore it. And when I came in the ladies working were more focused on having conversation and worried about buying candy for dollar tree. But when I usually sell they take my clothes I guess it depends who is working at the time. read more

Trying to sell, emphasis on "trying." We were told it would be a 45 minute wait. That's not a problem. We were told we had to remain on the premises the entire 45 minutes because it's a "store policy." Um, no. I had planned to get lunch and run errands while the clothes were being evaluated, not waste a chunk of my day with the store's ham fisted attempt to get me to buy things I neither need nor want through sheer boredom. There are many other places to sell clothes and that is what we will be doing. read more

Brie was fantastic, the most improved consignment clothing store in the triangle. When their location first moved, I was disappointed in their selection but they've definitely updated since then. All the styles were up to date and had plenty of plus size clothes. Thanks again Brie and Uptown, I finally have my summer wardrobe. read more

I have mixed feelings about this location. I drove an hour away to come here today and had a feeling they would take most of my stuff. As they were sorting, I went shopping and found a lot of the brands I donated already on sale: Pacsun, Wild Fable, Pink by Victoria's Secret, and Shein. These same brands were left in the bag that they gave back to me. They chose 16 of my items and gave me a whopping $30. Funny because the first shirt they picked cost me $20 alone. But yes, my items were perfect condition with tags. As I shopped I found jeans with stains, cut out tags, items incorrectly sized. I found a pair of Pacsun jeans that were a waist size 25 marked as a large. I don't know what planet y'all are living on but a 25 is NOT a large. And if you're thinking about selling your clothes just know they do NOT accept the clothes being in trash bags. They made me run next door to TJ Maxx and buy a reusable bag. I think it's pretty ridiculous they barely accepted any of my summer clothes considering they said they were specifically looking for summer clothes on their website. I also noticed 80% of their store was sizes XS-S. Most of the clothes I tried to donate were M-L, so maybe that's why they denied it. I guess Uptown Cheapskate doesn't see the value in "bigger sizes." I would recommend Plato's instead but I think they're just as pretentious if not more. If you're looking to make real money, get Depop or Poshmark. UPDATE: Just got home and found one of the shirts I bought has several blue/yellow stains on it. Uptown Cheapsake states on their website: "We carefully scan items for snags, tears, broken zippers, and stains." Clearly not. If I didn't care about buying clothes with stains and imperfections I would shop at Goodwill. I paid an overpriced fee for a stain-riddled Forever 21 tank. DO NOT SELL HERE !!!!!! Wish I could give this place 0 stars. They are the worst place to sell to. The past 3 times I've went to this location to sell brands that are current or even on the racks in the store they tell me they don't take half the brands in my bag, they couldn't "make competitive pricing" and that my clothes were "out dated" when, I'm sorry they were not compared to more than half of the items in that store. You're telling me they can have an old Aeropostale shirt from 2011 but can't take a brandy Melville tank top or barely worn vans?? My clothes were all clean and barely used and more in style than half of the store and it's so frustrating the excuses they give to not except clothes. Also the fact that they take fast fashion brands and up the pricing of those pieces is ridiculous in itself. AND to make my last experience SOOO much better, they only took one of my items I brought in a bag full of clothes and shoes and offered me $3. Okay fine whatever but the icing on the freaking cake is that they are so dumb and unorganized they mixed up my bag full of clothes (they didn't take) with another persons order and she chose to donate the rest of her clothes. So when I go up after my name is called to get my lousy $3 and my nice reusable bag, it's not there and they couldn't find a bag with my name on it full with the rest of my items because it was all put in the donations and they gave my bag to someone else. And that idiot stranger took it and didn't say anything ?? So when I say um where's my bag and my clothes the girl was like oh we accidentally gave it to another customer and she didn't say anything and just took the bag and donated the clothes. But here's the donation pile you can sort through it and try to find the rest of your items. Keep in mind because they confused my order there was two other peoples donations all mixed with my clothes and prior drop off and I did not feel like going through a huge pile of other peoples used donated clothes to find mine. I maybe saw one pair of my shoes and two pairs of shorts and they gave me the other girls gross bag to put less than half of my items I got back. I was so displeased with the way they handled this situation and that it happened in the first place like be more organized and understand who you're talking to. I came in before those people and they were called before me and made a decision about my items bc the store is so unorganized and a disgrace. Also displeased with how they have been period with what clothes they pick and choose to buy with their lame, outrageous excuses. Clothes are pricey and they offer very little when they purchase clothing. The claim that they offer '20-25% of their selling price' to sellers, is False. I sold some clothes here and was offered 1-2$ per clothing. When i went there again in a few days, one of the items I had sold was there on sale for 7 times the cash they had given me for that apparel piece. Clearly that was way less than 25% of their selling price. Also, they hadn't bothered to even look through my clothes - the cashiers seem to be either lazy or hate their work. I am never going to buy or sell here again. These people are clearly there in the business to make huge profit off new/gently used clothes. I like uptown cheapskate a lot but this isn't my favorite location. Last time I was here I went to sell my lululemon that was NEW along with NEW american eagle jeans and multiple items from stores like francesca's and altar'd state and they wouldn't take most of them. All of the items I was trying to sell were in style and in good as new or new condition. They have a good amount of clothes in the store but many of them are very out of style or not name brands. They ended up taking 16 items and only offered me $100 when most of the items they took were lululemon or other good brands. I think the prices are fair when buying but I wouldn't recommend selling here. read more

I don't even want to give this store a one star. I am shocked and appalled at the behavior of the people that work here and the manager. I have been selling some of my daughters clothes to this store for a few years and I always ask my husband to go do the transaction. I work full time and my husband is a stay at home Dad. Yesterday he was treated terribly by the employees and manager. He was told he had to stay in the store while they processed what he brought in while other women who came after him were allowed to leave. He was told that's because the women are their "normal" clientele and have schedules they are willing to accommodate. The manager was sexist and quite frankly rude. I am shocked in 2022 there is blatant gender discrimination. Never will we step foot in here or recommend anyone else to. read more

*** DO NOT SELL HERE! THEY STEAL YOUR CLOTHES!!! *** Not only did they steal my LULULEMON clothing items, but now are REFUSING to follow through on their promise of "compensation." Back in May, YES MAY, of 2022, I took clothes to them to sell as I have in the past. In my bin, there were a couple of Lululemon pieces that I did not mean to bring. At the end of the selling process, they show you what they would like to take. I saw the two pieces sitting at the top and immediately told them that was an accident, and I wanted to keep them-- not sell them. The girl at the register understood and said she would place them back in my bin for me to take home later (since I was still shopping in the store). However, I NEVER GOT THE PIECES BACK! After emptying the bin of denied clothing a few days later, I could not find the Lululemon anywhere. I triple-checked the bin, my car, laundry, and closet. Realizing the issue, I immediately contacted Uptown Cheapskate who said they would look into the issue right away-- checking the store, donation bins, and security cameras. THIS WAS A LIE! They did not check the tapes or the store until TWO WEEKS LATER, despite my calls to follow up. Since all that time had passed, the video surveillance was "recorded over," and there was "no evidence" of the situation. My issue was directed to the owner Chelsea, where the real problem begins. SHE IS A SCAM ARTIST!!! SHE OFFERED ME $25 COMPENSATION FOR MY $166 WORTH OF LULULEMON CLOTHES AND HAS REFUSED TO REFUND ME!!! I told her this was outrageous compared to the cost I spent on the clothing. They were hardly worn and in perfect condition. It's not my fault they lost them and didn't check the tapes. There was evidence, and it was their fault for not pursuing it. This meant that I was LOSING ALMOST $150 BECAUSE OF THEIR MISTAKE! We finally "agreed" on half of the cost of the clothes, but she still hasn't sent me my check. IT HAS BEEN MONTHS, AND SHE IS NOW IGNORING ME! I have been nothing, but respectful and understanding about this situation. I am at my wits end, and I have filed a complaint with the BBB due to their SCAMMING behavior. I've been buying & selling here for 5 years and I gotta say it's my first stop when I redo my wardrobe (which is admittedly a lot). The buyers can be really picky depending on who's there, and sometimes refuse brands even though the racks are filled with them. Either way, the prices are great, especially during sales, and I never have to sort through "junky" clothes like I would at a Goodwill. Overall I love it! read more

Very disappointed in our visit. My teen daughter is finally interested in thrift and consignment stores ..yay. The store is fairly clean and that's the only positive. The staff was incredibly rude. I was shocked to find out that they do not offer a restroom for patrons. The bathroom is for staff only. We had to leave our selections and go next door to the restaurant, but a drink to use the facilities. The staff had no suggestions as to where we could use a bathroom, nor did they offer to hold our selections. The prices are a bit high on some of the clothing and you have to watch for stains even though they are adamant that they don't take in clothes with stains. The woman behind the counter was very unprofessional both in appearance and demeanor. She was completely bothered by us as paying customers. Sadly, won't be back. Uptown Cheapskate in apex is my absolute favorite store in this world. Actually it's my favorite place to be in general. The atmosphere that these employees create is like no other, I feel so relaxed and ready to open my wallet up the second I walk through the door. I would like to mention that I am not angry; just a little confused and annoyed. Can't lie, definitely bought some things. However thinking back about how much I spent on 3 used items is a little frustrating and here's why: While I understand the concept of business and that if you sell something for how much you bought it for, it would be pointless.. I can't seem to wrap my head around why you would sell something for higher than the semi-original sticker value of a product (please refer to picture for explanation). Not to mention, when a pair of jeans has nasty holes in them that were definitely not part of the original design, I shouldn't be asked to pay $19 for them when I could pay $30 for a new pair with totally on purpose manufactured holes, zero stains, and zero possibilities of the previous owner embracing the commando way of life. Unless the jeans are brand spankin' new or rubbed on Beyoncé's booty, no one should be paying more than say... $10 for them. Especially since the seller probably only got $2. I used to absolutely love this place, I mean I would spend weekends hopping between this location and the one in Raleigh because everything was priced so well. Uptown Cheapskate in Apex, NC has nice clothes and good prices, but I will not go back to this store. I'm from Durham, and the Apex location is closest to me, but I will drive further to other stores due to the staff. I found a great pair of Ugg boots that weren't priced, and took them to Brianna, assistant manager, to ask for a price. Her body language (hands on hips, eye rolling, a continuous smirk) was what I was met with, then she informed me in a rude manner that the owners would have to price the boots, and they weren't there. She shoved a hold ticket at me and ordered me to fill it out. I asked if I could buy the boots that day, and she acted as if I had three heads. The eye rolling started again, so I left the store. I am 45 years old, have never put up with that sort of behavior from my child, and am damn sure I won't put up with that behavior from a child that may be 20 years old pretending to be an assistant manager. My friend has called about the boots three times over the past two weeks. Unfortunately, Brianna answered, and the boots still aren't priced. My hope is that a manager or owner sees this review and provides education regarding customer service to Brianna. It seems as though she needs some remedial basic manners education from her mother to begin with. I will be writing the main Uptown Cheapskate office in Utah about Brianna, since I can't get anywhere in my search for a manager or owner of the Apex store. I have visited this store in the past, as I have a teenage son that is constantly growing out of clothes. I have bought hundreds of dollars worth of clothes for me and my son at Uptown Cheapskate in Apex in the past. This is the first time I've had an issue, and it is a sad state of affairs that Brianna can turn a customer that would have potentially spent hundreds more dollars from a store. I wonder how many other patrons she has run off during her tenure at Uptown Cheapskate. 1/16/18: I received a call from Steve, one of the owners of Uptown Cheapskate, and we had a lovely conversation. He was warm and friendly, and took care of the issue at hand. He invited me to check out his Raleigh store, and we discussed the horrors of finding clothes to fit teenage boys. Well well well..... I was so disappointed in my visit to this store. We are new to the area so I have started going to all the stores that I have never had where I used to live. I went there. Location was good. Store was clean. But that's the only positive I have to say. I brought in a bag of clothes. I have clothes still new with tags from kohl's and sears and stuff from THIS YEAR that I never wore or ended up not liking the fit on myself. And they took my bag and I walked around the store. Picked out 2 items and was called sting my bag was done. I could see them at the counter and they just peeked inside the bag and did not go through everything. So I said this to them and they said we can look in and know if it's what we want or not right away. We don't have to go through every piece. I was like do you have a list of rules for selling to you guys. And they gave me a card and all it showed was styles they want. And let me ass some of those styles were in my bag. If it wasn't for the fact that I just completed my purchase of 2 items from them a min before I wouldn't have brought anything. Hey were ride about it and didn't seem to care. Also they had signs saying 60% off clearance. Well I love clearance. I searched all racks and there was literally 1 shirt marked for clearance. So that was a lie to just get people in the store. I also noticed the prices being the same as the store prices profanely on items that still had tags. This was so disappointing. I will never go back. read more

Went there to consign some stuff, they told me to wait 45 minutes, and in that time found stuff I was going to buy in the store. 45 minutes later I walked up to the desk to see my bags on the ground, and asked for the price of my stuff. They said they couldn't take my stuff despite it being all very recent/upscale brands (Paige, levis, ect) and then proceeded to ask me if I wanted to donate it rudely. What a waste of time. If you can't take my stuff fine, but at least notify me when you knew that so I could have left. read more

Managers care absolutely 0% and constantly put down their employees on a level that is comparable to emotional abuse. I'm talking about calling them idiots along with other insults. along with gas lighting and laughing at them when they are either in pain or refusing to explain instructions to the full extent so that when the job assigned is done you did something wrong and you have to do it all over again while listening to your managers ask each other how much of an idiot you can be. My best friend works at this store and has come home every night in tears for a month now because no matter how hard she works and no matter her positive attitude at work her managers still find amusement in her misery. I even decided to go to the store myself for some shopping and to lift her mood but when I got there she was the only one working the floor while both managers were in the back smoking, all without clocking out! Hope whoever owns this store reads this comment and gets their managers under control before they have a lawsuit on their hands. read more

This is MAYBE one step up from a Goodwill. Most of the brands in there were not "uptown" at all. A lot of Gap and lower end brands. Many of the things looked like they had a lot of wear to them and I didn't see anything in there that was in fashion now. A thrift store has better prices and you may even find some better stuff in there. read more

Checked their website for hours before leaving home, because I live over thirty minutes away; however, when we arrived there was a paper sign on the door announcing new hours. Because we arrived 15 minutes before their new, earlier closing time, they weren't going to look at the clothes I was selling. After pleading my case they agreed to take a look. When I got back to my car with my unpurchased clothes I had to refold everything, because they had just shoved it all back in my bin. This is aggravating, because I delivered the clothes to them freshly laundered and folded, as required. In the course of straightening, I discovered they had not even taken the time to look at the clothes in the bottom half of the bin. Items I expect they would have taken such as Levi's jeans, Banana Republic, and Express pants to name a few, were still folded, untouched. I am selling my clothes, because I need the money. I didn't waste gas, and an hour of my time, on a Friday afternoon, for them to toss about my clothes, with no intention of looking at them. They did buy a couple of things off the top of the bin, but didn't go through it completely, which is kind of the purpose. Also, don't act like you're doing people a favor, when it's your own fault you didn't update your business hours on your website. In today's economy, it doesn't pay to have cruddy customer service. Additionally, two weeks ago I was with a friend who bought two pairs of shoes. Both of them broke the first time she wore them. Maybe they should do a better job at checking the quality of the items they do buy. Won't ever waste my time again. read more

They enjoyed their time, tried on clothing and made purchases. The store is small and cramped, but was well organized by color and size. Uptown Cheapskate is probably the best consignment store I've ever found (and I shop at a lot of consignment stores). The prices here are almost always reasonable at around $5-$20 for most stuff including dresses, shirts, shorts, pants, and shoes. The store is very clean and not overly cluttered like many consignment stores I've been to. They have a wide range of sizes and they organize everything very well. Arguably the best part of the store is the sale rack. I once bought four nice shirts for under $4 and 3 pair of jeans for under $10. Overall, Uptown Cheapskate is the best consignment store in Cary and around it because it has clothes to fit a wide variety of styles, cheap prices, and a clean and well organized space. read more

I have a lot of clothing and accessories that are in-style, which I have taken to this store to sell a few times, only for them to buy 1 or 0 pieces out of three or four bags of items. They always claim it's due to "older styles" or "a bit worn". This is after browsing around the store and not seeing much that I like because it is much more than "a bit worn" or because it is an item very similar to what I have brought in to sell! This makes no sense whatsoever. Their employees need to learn to have a better eye for things, or at the very least be consistent! What a WASTE of time! Wonderful experience! I have honestly never received such amazing service! I walked into this store 8 months pregnant looking for a dress to wear to my baby shower (which is a tall order). Sabrina immediately helped me, finding outfits that could work with my changing body, and continued to check up on me in the dressing room and find and bring me more outfits that could work. Meredith gave me insight about clothes, and helped me pick out outfits, helping me stay upbeat and feel great about being pregnant and having a larger body. Both of these ladies helped me to have a positive shopping experience where I was able to find outfits that worked with my body. Honestly if I had not received such amazing service I would have become very disheartened with my changing body and would have become frustrated but these ladies did an outstanding job and provided wonderful service to the whole customer, body and mind.
