I was sad to see that Clothes Mentor was closed in the Short Pump Area but saw that there was this location close by. It was that time for Spring Cleaning and was in the process of minimalizing my closet (and house). I had a pile that I was ready to get rid of anxiously and decided to give this place a shot. The place is a little smaller but had plenty of cute clothes to choose from. I did go first thing in the morning so I was able to get first dibs on having my stuff looked over. They did a great job going over my clothes and taking a big chunk off my load. They did offer a good amount for the amount of clothes that they selected, but was surprised that they didn't take many of my new brand clothes. Which was fine with me because then I was able to just post it on Poshmark. Anyways, it was an overall good experience to sell your clothes and to check out second-hand clothing. 4/23/26 @ 7:25 pm : We were in the area & my son got excited at the sight of this store. He loves fashion. He was hoping to find some cool things at great prices. Unfortunately, we stepped inside about 35 minutes before they were going to close. Others came in after us. No one, and I mean NO ONE, spoke to us when we came in. We browsed around & a young lady came and slammed a pair of jeans in front of me on the rack. She did say "excuse me" while doing so, but the attitude was very clear. Not sure why people get so upset when they are still open. At that point, I knew I wasn't purchasing anything from that store. I had to get my son out of there, but he was still excited at some of the things he was finding. He's a teen - He doesn't pay attention to bad attitudes or poor customer service the way I do. So, he was unfazed. The longer we stayed, the more irritated that young lady looked. I walked out because he was taking too long browsing & I could feel myself getting upset by her behavior. They brought in the racks from outside & the young man did finally say "hello" to me as I was walking out. Weird! Even if he was ready for everyone to leave, he didn't show it as rudely as the young lady did. Instead of being called "Uptown Cheapskate", they should rebrand as "Uppidy, Stuck Up & Rude Cheapskate". That fits them more accurately. Needless to say, we will NEVER go back & their men's section is extremely small compared to the rest of the store. They won't see a penny of my money! read more

Every single time I've come here to try and sell things they are literally never buying. Not coming here anymore & might as well just donate to Goodwill versus "upcycle". If the buy counter is only open during a certain time period on Saturdays because theyre so busy.... maybe advertise that???? When the guy at the counter told me Saturdays they're only open at the buy counter from 10AM-1PM he said it as if I should know that Like dude your store-specific website says buy counter open from the time you open til 1 hour before close - the store is/was NOT busy & someone could've easily handled what I had considering the only things being done were stand around and chat or the few that actually were working were at least folding clothes/sorting them. Got there right at 10 when they opened. Already had 3 people In front of me to drop off. Totally fine, but didn't expect to have to spend an hour wandering around until they were done. The older lady who does the fitting rooms was just a grump. Not a great first impression of the store. While some things are decently priced, others like old navy shouldn't be priced that high. It seems like you're getting a deal buying second hand, but really you're not. Also an entire bag of 25+ name brand great condition items they took 5... I literally spent an hour there for $20. When you call on the phone and literally tell them the items you are bringing, and get there, they tell you waiting period is 30, then to come back , and a different person says we couldn't authenticate your shoes and / or items need to be 2 years old, when clearly alot of items they are selling are waaaay older than 2 years. But they will offer to donate your clothing, WOW, not mine, how do I know my clothes won't wind up in your inventory. Fast forward, went straight to Plato's Closet with same items, shoes were authenticated and they took my other items, gave me more than I expected. Friendly and expeditious. Uptown, when I asked questions or for a manager, the clerk seemed to get a bit nervous, maybe because she knew my items were high quality clothing and shoes. Great place for good clothing and shoes. Huge selection in all sizes. Obviously hit or miss sometimes but that's the fun of going intermittently to see what's new. Have sold items as well for reasonable price altho apparently some of my picks are not the "in" style right now! Watch the tags - one of our purchases was a last call with no returns so when my daughter changed her mind we had no choice. Times for selling clothes are NEVER accurate. Nothing posted to an instagram or facebook page. No warnings, the current instagram says they are open to selling 10-7pm every day. Do better and update the instagram. Clothes are often cheap or pilled. A complete jip. read more

Every time I go by to drop off clothes, there's a hand written sign on the door that says sorry we've stopped buying at 1 o'clock or 3:00 PM... etc I wonder if management knows their staff are doing this or if it's just a lack of staff in general? What's the deal... Calling before hand does no good - staff are usually rude on the phone . I recommend people go to Clementine or Buffalo exchange... they are at least polite. read more

After a more recent visit, this place has definitely gone downhill. Everything is cheap clothing priced expensive. I looked at a brand new shirt with tags that was priced at $6 and uptown cheapskate wanted $5. There should be a much large discount for items that are used. We have no idea the environment these clothes were stored in. And they were selling cheap brands for more than they were worth new. Shein clothing was going for $14 a piece. Not what I expected from essentially a thrift shop. It also seems like the randomly pick clothes they want to buy. They said my clothes were out of style and didn't buy anything and meanwhile I found 2 shirts on the rack that were exactly the same as what I was trying to sell. Multiple items of clothing were in poor condition. There was no quality control at all. One shirt had a HUGE stain on it. Like how did this even make it on to the racks? There is a great selection go look through but they are essentially all the same shirt in varying colors. Not enough variety. The number of long sleeve crop tops for sale was astounding. read more

I found two (2) new women's Columbia Tamiami shirts in my size for $11.99 each (retail $50 each) and a pair of Splendid sandals also for $11.99 (retail $80). What a bargain! Good place overall but beware - the website is company-wide and not specific to this location, so they have some incorrect info on there. For instance, the website today said they are accepting spring and summer and gave examples of what they're looking for, but that didn't sound right to me so I called the store and asked specifically. In fact, they are accepting fall and winter. I just chalked it up to a missing update on their website. Then, I took my two trash bags of clothes, which is what the site told me to do, only to get there and be told that they don't accept clothes and trash bags, and I needed to take them back and put them in reusable containers before I could drop them off. When I told them the website says that they said yes, but "that doesn't work for us." So while I generally like this place, they are not super customer-friendly with instructions about the drop offs unless you are already familiar. it just made my Saturday errands a little longer... read more

Clean store, friendly staff, awesome deals, tons of inventory. This was my second visit and I will be shopping there again.

My first experience here was great as I found a dress for a Christmas party last year however, that quickly flipped upon my visit to purchase my daughter items for homecoming. Being secondhand items, their policy is (of course) no refunds or returns. I purchased platform heels and a gold clutch purse that had a wristlet attached. Never have I purchased secondhand items anywhere else that were SUPERGLUED back together. Being that it was both items that broke, I can't write it off as the person selling pulling the wool over Uptown Cheapskate's eyes. My daughter only wore the shoes for 15 minutes on the way to homecoming and the moment we got home from dropping her off she called us bawling because the platform completely separated from the rest of the shoe and very clearly had been superglued together. The same thing happened with the purse! The wristlet chain completely separated from the rest of the bag and there was evidence of glue around the base of the purse. This is insane for items I paid over $30 for!!! I might as well go to freaking Goodwill or look through the trash if you swindle customers this way. Why would you accept those items from a person selling them?? That is horrible business practice and I'm making sure this is all over any local page I can find too because I will never shop here again when you have stupid rules that I can't get my money back when I was clearly tricked into buying severely damaged goods. My daughter could have sprained or broken her ankle and then you can bet we'd be having a much more serious conversation with representation involved. DO BETTER!!! read more

I have never heard of a retail store that requires your phone number, full name, etc. in order to set up an "account" in order to make a purchase and won't allow you to return an item without account info. I don't know about you but I am not comfortable giving out this info just to make a purchase from a business. On top of that, you only get store credit for a return. Won't be getting my business ever again. The sign they have posted regarding returns AND the info at the bottom of the receipt DO NOT indicate that you have to have an account in order to return a product. You are relying on the store clerk to tell you that when you make a purchase. This whole setup is shady. read more

As far as I know, Platos Closet is the only store of this kind close by and Uptown Cheapskate is definitely waaaay better of the two. Don't expect to be able to sell 100% of your things, as for certain times of the year, they're only looking for certain things. And obviously, if items are too worn, they definitely won't take it. Aside from that, Uptown Cheapskate is a very large and clean store. Most important important, they've taken things in the past that I couldn't sell elsewhere. read more

Do not sell your clothes here, you will get ripped off!! They took a pair of hunter boots, a pair of bean boots, a pair of ugg boots, and a jacket and all they gave me was $35. Every time I sell here I end up extremely disappointed. They are going to mark these items way higher than what they paid me for them. They are scamming customers and have no sympathy about it. The workers are very cold while telling you how much they are willing to pay. I will no longer be bringing my business to Uptown Cheapskate and I will advise others to stay away as well. read more
