Take plato's closet and make it a little bit "classier" and you get Uptown cheapskate. This place opened a couple months ago and advertised heavily on FB and through the local radio. I don't think I've ever heard of anyone getting a good return from consignment shops but at least you get something back. I came here on a weekend afternoon and dropped off a suit jacket, pants, and a vest. I wasn't going to wear it again because it's not my style and didn't fit as slim as I would like to. The employee told me to come back in a little bit and it should be ready; she stated there was only one customer ahead of me that was selling clothes. I didn't have my own bag but they said it wasn't a problem. I think at Plato's closet you have to have a bag/box when you bring in your stuff. I came back about an hour and a half later and the same employee told me it would be just a little bit longer.. although I would have thought by then it would have been done. I saw her looking at my stuff a few minutes later so I guess she got side tracked earlier. There are way too many clothes to look at here; think old navy and forever 21 and triple their inventory in a smaller amount of space. I got some money back, but it was a small fraction of what I paid for everything. Not sure If I would come back to sell my clothes here or not. read more

This is a pretty standard consignment store. The store itself is really big and has a huge stock so it's a bit overwhelming at first. While there is mostly used items, they do carry some new ones. The latter are on the pricier side so I didn't bother looking. A soft heather grey babydoll dress with white crochet overlay happened to catch my eye. It was originally from asos and was priced at $9, having already been marked down from $12. I tried it on and loved the way it fit so I decided to buy it. Upon closer inspection, I noticed a couple snags and a small stain on the bottom and asked if I could get a discount. They offered to sell it for $5 which I thought was an awesome deal! I'll probably be living in this dress for the next couple of months. Aside from my new favorite casual dress, most of their stock was just meh. A lot of it looked dated or was just no longer in style. Their accessory game was just weak. There wasn't much selection for petite girls around 5'0 either - specifically myself and my entire friend group that was shopping there that day. Although most of their stuff wasn't super appealing to me, I am still content because I had one great find. My friends and I ended up going to the mall afterwards because they didn't find what they were looking for. That being said, I just had fun shopping around in here with my gal pals. read more

I've been to Uptown cheapskate twice and this store is just simply amazing!! You must devote at least 1 hour to 2 hours just to give yourself enough quality time to thoroughly look through each piece of clothing!! The clothing as well as shoes, jewelry, and handbags are very gently used almost brand new looking in my opinion. Today the store had such a bargain sale going on ... & I couldn't help myself but take my time and go through three full racks of tank tops and shorts sleeve shirts! The sale included Any Price ticket with a red stamp would have an additional 60% off with whatever price was on the tag!! Any regular priced item would get 10% off! I got multiple tank tops that were from name brands like American Eagle, forever 21 , and H&M they were $7.99 with 60% off that price, The final Price was $3.20! I got a pair of vintage Ray-Ban sunglasses that retail for over $200 and with the temper send discount I was able to score these for only $52! The store is very clean, very organized by size and seasonal attire! The tank tops and shorts sleeve shirts were all hung up on hangers -, on a rack and they increased by size-... starting with size small and going all the way up to extra large! I was able to score a pair of maroon Jean shorts for only eight dollars with original H&M tags attached!! If you're looking for work out clothing and work out sneakers from name brands like Nike, Reebok, and under armor-... then you must check out Uptown Cheapskate!!! They also had on display lots of baiting suits that just hit the racks!! I was unable to glance at them because they were closing at 5pm and I didn't want to hold any of the employees up! I'm a huge brand person and this place was packed with clothes. You definitely have to dig a bit but I loved the amount of clothes they had. Some items are damaged so double check before purchasing. This store is mainly for women, they have a small men's section but it's tiny in comparison to everything they offer for women. Most of the clothes are NWT or slightly used. read more

Have gone in maybe 3 times at most by now, and the first two times my experience was alright. Not the worst, not the best, but good enough to bring more items in. I've consigned with multiple other shops, but they're a bit to far for me to drive to at this moment in time. After my last visit, I don't think I will be going back. Their staff is horrendous. They are rude, condescending, and just down right judgey. With all the other reviews, I do believe the way they buy out is a little wonky. I agree that other shops will offer you a better pay out should that be the agreement with a more pleasant experience and staff. read more

Brought in hardly worn clothes and shoes to sell. They told me to fill out a form and that wait time would be 30 or so min and that I had to wait in store. Waited about an hour only to be told they wouldn't be buying any of it. During this time I saw the staff joking and talking to each other and not noticing customers come up to checkout or to use dressing room. Very unprofessional. I saw clothes in worse condition on hangers that they bought from people and shoes with scuffs and marks on them. But my new boots and hardly worn clothes couldn't pass the test? read more

I was pretty excited to check this place out because I love myself some good deals. I normally thrift at goodwill but I thought I'd give this consignment store a shot, but I was largely disappointed by the selection. All the clothes are maybe 2-5 years out of style and prices aren't amazingly cheap either. The clothing is also PACKED into the racks making it hard to look at anything without getting frustrated. They do have a reasonably sized plus section which I think is awesome for diversity purposes, and they do have a small men's section like Platos closet. I had a great shopping experience today! I have been coming here for years. Today, they had a great selectio.

The Glen Allen location of Uptown Cheapskate has some incredibly rude employees, particularly a young adult female with long, black hair and a cheap hipster style. She was incredibly condescending and pretentious acting toward multiple customers. I overheard her hounding a girl in a dressing room because she was trying to swiffer the floor of the occupied room. It's not that customer's fault that your colleague put her in a room you were trying to clean. We arrived twenty minutes prior to closing, but were well aware of that and were only popping in for five minutes to look for one specific item. In that brief time, she hounded us and every other customer in the store, quite loudly and rudely, that they were closing in twenty minutes and then 15 minutes. Get yourself a new job, dear, if you can't wait to get out of the door of this one. It's called customer service for a reason. You're doing a disservice to your customers with that ugly attitude of yours! read more

This store makes me so irritated. You look at the quality of their clothes on the rack, and you wonder why in the world they bought them from people in the first place. But then you take clothes to sell, and they buy absolutely nothing from you. Or you try to sell a pair of $80 shoes and they give you $3 dollars for them. Sellers- read this bad boy so you can anticipate what you will be receiving. There's vague descriptions but I'm hoping a $ amount will help gauge the percentage of your items. I usually sell on Poshmark; but the process takes a while and I've been too busy to ship, but the items I sold were: $48 Topshop purse (with tags) $58 Kenneth Cole Wallet (with tags) 3 Fashion Nova Skirts (with tags) around $45 3 extremely lightly worn (worn twice) express shirts- around $120 Miss London jacket- New With Tags $45 Report Flats- new with tags $30 I left with $35. I felt a little robbed to be honest, but took what I could. I browsed first to see if I could exchange for store credit, and witnessed some pretty worn Old Navy worn products that I couldn't believe would be marked at the same price as my items (I understand there's a pricing software- but to my point of not wanting anything in exchange). I believe there should be pricing by brand because I saw extremely marked up items- if there isn't already. And some sort of pricing for brand new items with tags. I regret needing the cash quickly and not selling online because I could've made more so around $100 instead of $35 when I was expecting an extreme mark down would be $60 or $70. The staff was kind and timely- and I understand 100% is out of their control so it is absolutely of no fault to them. I'm speaking on the way of which Uptown Cheapskate determines what is sold for what. As a midsized girl, thrifting can be a bit daunting. I love Uptown, particularly the Short Pump location because they have a plethora of garments in my size. While some of the items can be a bit more expensive, if you dig through the racks you can easily find some inexpensive but high-quality gems! I discovered this store over 2 years ago and was thrilled about everything from the shopping experience, price tags to the staff interactions, as I was able to meet and talk with the owner personally while shopping and he was extremely kind. I live 30-40 minutes away from this location and was happy to make the drive to shop here - until this past year! I'm not sure if they've gone through management changes or what, but the employees who work there are down right snobby with a capital S. They are not friendly or helpful, and they were remarkably rude when I brought clothes in to sell. I was treated like a total burden who wasn't worthy of their Short-Pump attention. I am EXTREMELY glad there is a location now in Midlothian with FANTASTIC ownership and PHENOMENAL, KIND employees - who all know me and my daughter by name because they are just that kind and attentive! Word to the wise do not go to this place. They are rude, snobbish, unfriendly, and truly give poor customer service and with an attitude. I took 2 bags of clothes in today and was told they were not able to take them. I would like to say there were no stains or rips and name brand clothing. I am an Executive and have loads of clients and I will be expressing to everyone don't go to this place because they treat you poorly and it's a wasted trip. I also own a hair salon so I will be sharing with all of those clients just go to Clothes Mentor where they know how to treat their clients. When I expressed my dissatisfaction, one of the workers was completely rude and argumentative. I asked the other worker (who was very nice) if the other one was the manager. I wish I could do negative stars. I have been to so many thrift stores and this is BY FAR the worst. We went to sell 4 bags of mostly never worn clothes and got offered around nothing for it. The staff was incredibly condescending and rude and the overall atmosphere was just uninviting. The prices for the clothes were way overpriced! I could find nicer things at Goodwill. Stumbled across this store (before my most recent visit) as its in my area.... super cute inside with great deals. Sadly, we wont be returning. I went in to sell a few brand new, high end items, while i was offered very low amounts for one of them, that wasn't the let down of our experience. How we were treated left a bit to be desired. We even noticed how we were greeted in comparison to EVERYONE else to come in after us (that looked nothing like us in terms of a feature we cant change). In the hour that she "verified" my 3 things. I watched this woman flip and pull at my brand new bag with the serial number, authenticity card/envelope AND BLOOMINGDALES receipt in the side pocket just to decline and refer to it as inauthentic, guess she was looking so hard for a fault that she didn't see the obvious. She shook her head, rolling her eyes while speaking to another person and pulling my things apart in a very demeaning manner, not just as if she were looking up and verifying authenticity as i'm familiar with since I've consigned goods before..... not to mention, i went to another store just after leaving this one who wanted my bag before anything else and happily offered the top 1/3 as normal for it with no problems. She was much more friendlier and warmer to other guests..... my biggest suggestion; if you only intend to cater to clients that look like you or very similar vs those of different complexions, at least try not to make it so obvious. As someone that's not faced much adversity in this area and never felt pushed to leave a review or even speak on something of this nature, it didn't feel good, it was very obvious.... and it was disappointing, it was a painful reminder of how easily you can walk into ignorance over difference. read more

I bought a sweater at Uptown Cheapskate Short Pump and did not like the way it looked on....returned the sweater for store credit and had the original receipt and the tags....only I had put the tags together and was told that one of the tags was not in the original place...I took it off because when I tried it on I was afraid it would pick the sweater....nowhere on the receipt does it say the tags have to be in the original place..was not allowed to get store credit because of this....will NEVER shop in this place again ever and I had them just keep the sweater because I did not like it so I threw away $42 and some cents and they will probably put it back on the rack and resell it.......what a cheap thing to do to a customer.....NB Phillips Goochland, VA read more
