Downtown Cheapskate recently opened in Tampa Palms. The store is very clean and organized, the staff is friendly, and it was very easy to sell clothes to Uptown as the store is tech savvy. I brought in a basket full of clothes and was offered $62 cash or $77 store credit. If feels so nice to have a cleaned out closet and a little extra cash for the holidays. Not only do they actually purchase your lightly worn/ brand new clothes for a great price but they also have value clothing!! It is always great to know that even my un purchased clothing goes to a home in need with them donating clothing that doesn't meet their inventory needs. Over 30 items and there were only 2 items chosen to be "sold." I understand that everyone thinks their clothes are stylish, and I was not as naive to think that all of my items would be chosen; however, there is zero explanation for why one style of shirt in pink was chosen but not the exact same Shirt in cream. When asked the sales associate said, "oh, I think it had a small stain." Neither shirt had stains. I had 3 month old Eva Mendez wide leg pants, brand new New York and a company shirts, Michael Kors, etc. Just seems really odd that there are plenty of items on the rack with pulls and popped stitches and stains (I pulled 2 for the sales associate to see), but my items were not appropriate. Very disappointing. I will not be back. read more

I went to the store for the first time a few months ago. I took several items many with tags and quality brands. Of the 2 large bags, they gave me only $27 - kind of a slap in the face but I didn't"t want to load it up and take it back home so.... Anyway, I bought a great pair of LuLu leggings in great condition for $40 bucks so that was a plus. One of the only pluses really. I received a text with a survey asking about my shopping experience. I was honest & mentioned I'd probably not return because the staff was neither pleasant or inviting & the quality of most items there was pretty bad. Another plus - I received a very nice response from management, I assume, tailored to my experience & they invited me to return. So - here we are again. I went looking for something for my daughter. Surely the experience couldn't get any worse?? I thought not, but yes it did!! The young ladies that work there were not personable, seemed annoyed with any questions, never asked if I needed any help. I specifically went on a day when it would not be overwhelmingly busy. There were only 2 other shoppers in the store. I did find another great Lulu piece that I almost bought my daughter & you know, I just couldn't pull the trigger. I left it right there in the store & drove to Lululemon at International Plaza where I received phenom service and yep paid full price. So my experience was not good either time - not saying yours won't be better but I won't be back. And BTW the 2 other folks that were in the store were asked if they needed help - could be they had been there before - so i close with this - I recommend some kind of diversity or etiquette training for the staff because the concept is great but they were not. First time in the Store found it by accident was actually looking for a car seat for my granddaughter they don't sell any thing for babies but they sell things for adults and I absolutely love the store and would definitely be back found a couple nice maxi dresses and a pair of shoes everything was pretty much namebrand and very affordable prices. read more

I am impressed with this store! I had never heard of it surprisingly and was SO EXCITED to check it out. As soon as you walk in you see great displays and name brand items! They immediately greeted us and let us know there one was buy one get one sale. I love that I can actually look through the store and be able to easily push the hangers apart. I was interested in thrifting at this store I hadn't heard of before and was surprised when I walked in. It's more sleek than Plato's Closet and the personalized hangers and tags they have on their clothing shows they are more put together than most thrift stores. Their selection of men's clothing is impressive and the prices are good. The associates are polite, friendly, and helpful when you ask them questions. Definitely recommend those who are ballin' on a budget to check this store out. read more

The vibe inside was really nice. This place is a bit pricier than other thrift stores but they make up for it by having thrift store deals! So super ridiculous! Drove out of my to come to the store bc I heard it advertised on the radio "new store now open" well sure it's open but it's not open for business. I walked in and started browsing the shoes as the sales associate practically ran to me to let me know that they weren't open and I couldn't buy anything. Then she proceeded to tell me feel free to browse I just couldn't purchase anything. What's the point of looking if I can't purchase any of it because chances are next time I would've went back in there it wouldn't have been there anyways. Plus I know what used clothes look like. She started to walk away and rolled her eyes at me, great customer service already (sarcasm)! So if want to go to a store where you can't buy anything and the customer service is poor....go here! A store we didn't know we needed. I would describe it as an upscale Plato's Closet. Super nice and organized, and the small details really pull it all together (velvet hangers, cool fitting rooms, tablets at register to input rewards, general organization, etc.) They have great name-brand clothes at amazing prices, as well as designer purses and jewelry. It is spaced out nicely, so I was very comfortable shopping with my babies in their stroller. I would suggest bringing a reusable bag, as I heard they are going bagless (which is freakin' amazing!). I haven't sold clothes here yet, but when I do a "Marie Kondo" to my closet, I'll definitely be here with my items that no longer spark joy! :p read more

I stumbled upon Uptown Cheapskate after eating at a restaurant in the plaza. Second-hand clothes is so much better for the environment. While I love a good thrift search, I do like that Uptown Cheapskate feels nicer than a regular thrift store. The clothes are sectioned our super nicely, making it easy to shop. This is a carefully curated store of used fast fashion. To its credit, the items stocked are all things that look stylish/trendy now, and they are organized very well. No wading through great aunt Lilah's business casual jackets circa 1988. But things are really, really chintzy. Shein type apparel that has been worn and washed 1 x, and therefore looks old and faded. Some overstock cheap tops that are NWTs, racks of very ugly, cheap jewelry that aren't particularly trendy, a few designer brand shoes and bags that look well worn and are overpriced. This store actively prefers not to buy better made, more classic styles (J. Crew classic design cashmere sweaters etc) because they are not Instagram hot at the moment. I think this is fine if Shein, Papaya etc is the look you are going for and you don't mind faded and frayed things that will fall apart on the first wash.The sales assistants are unfriendly, but they do sort through buy/trade inventory very quickly so that you don't have to wait around too long. I had seen the store while visiting the restaurant near buy and told myself I would eventually go in. When I did I was pleasantly surprised, first they were still open as it was approaching 7 and everything was good quality and clean, no one hovered over me and didnt have to wait for someone to open the dressing room , over all I felt comfortable shopping. Once I picked out the nice jean jacket and checked out the cashier was super sweet and friendly, I wish i could remember her name but she was petite and had black hair, she was great! Didn't enjoy my experience at all. I feel like I was robbed after paying 30$ for a hoodie that was ripped and a t shirt. If your looking to get a good deal for clothes, go somewhere else. There's barely any men's clothing as well, and they sell fake vintage tees for a premium that were printed recently. Bad service as well, I felt like I was being ignored when walking up to employees and I was never greeted. Very disappointing. read more

I have been here several times now, sold things each time, and I've also picked up a few super cute items, a turquoise necklace, a Betsy Johnson purse and a pair of super cute blue crocs, and amazingly enough, spent $26 on everything. They have a great jewelry selection as well as clothing and other accessories. I've always had a wonderful experience with the staff, they've always been super friendly and nice. If I had to find a complaint, is that you cannot do part cash part trade. There have been times where I would be more inclined to take some items home with me if I could, but I completely understand that it complicates things a bit, and I realize it is a push to do all one way or another. read more
